So basically I downloaded viperone Rom on my stock Rom but when I go to flash it it not there. CM10.1 and gapps is my available ZIPs, then I turn on the phone go to my download folder and it shows viperone Rom but not cm10.1 or gapps. Anyway to fix this? I seen a thread on internal storage weeks back but never read it.
Current phones-
HTC One
Nexus 4
Retirees-
GS3
HTC LTEVO (Jewel)
iPhone
Honorable Discharges-
Note II(Cracked screen)
HTC LTEVO (MIA)
never seen this issue on this device.
what I would do though, double check your recovery, ie I am on latest twrp 2.5
eventually reflash custom recovery, as I said always been twrp, no issues, viper is also a good choice, stable and full of goodies.
also know that inside recovery you have access to a file manager, you might find your files with that tool.
good luck

Hi Forum
I'm still a newbie in all this android business, I try to read as many threads as possible before asking questions, however I just read A LOT about this MIUI, and people said there was released one for Optimus 2X? I just can't find it anywhere on the MIUI site.
Also if I do want this, how do I go about installing it? Can something go bad? I just don't want to brick my phone as I was close to doing so when I was playing around with flashing my SE phones
Help would be greatly appreciated
Kind Regards
~Neefy
Hi, you might wanna start and flash CyanogenMod first, also that is the best path to MIUI since the whole structure of MIUI for O2X is CM7. So go ahead to the CM7 thread and follow the guide there (I believe there is one).
I can't however tell you that not everything will go OK, since I don't know what knowledge do you have, but just be careful and everything will go great.
As for the MIUI installation it is somewhere in the only miui Thread at the moment in the development section.

miui germany .de celebration HD beta version ^^
i think they removed the link
I found the link, but what is the process? I understand I have to install RomManager, then clockworkrecovery, place the miui .zip on my SD card (only got internal, is that ok?), boot into recovery, "install from zip"
Is that all? Anything I need to do before?

Anyone with time and generosity who wants to help us newbies ?
External is needed if I'm right someone may be able to back me up with that but basically use rom manager to flash clockwork mod recovery (cwm). Use volume buttons to move up and down Recovery menu and power button to select, it's recommended to make a nandroid backup before flashing so you always have an go back to how it was if anything goes wrong. Next step after backup is to factory reset, wipe cache partition, go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache and battery stats. Now go to install zip from sd card and then choose zip from sd card and select your rom and flash and reboot. I'm new to this also so hope this helps.

but where does one get the zip image
The zip file is no problem, are you sure about the external SD thing tho? I don't have one
if you wqnt to flash roms you should get one. i got a 16gb one for about 14 euros from amazon
Could you link me to that ?

Wrong ! There are 2 versions of CWM. One for external and one for internal.
Go to dev section and search
As others have said, start with cyanogen to "cut you teeth" and then you can move to the MIUI ROM
MIUIUIUIUIUI is *dogshite* awful, but the installation process still remains the same. Flash zip. You do not need an external SD, you just need to read a bit more on recovery mounts.
Personally, CYANOGENMOD ALL THE WAY.
But what is the point installing cynagenmod and then installing MIUI right after?
the current MIUI for o2x is based off CM7.
But wouldn't it be the same as installing it from Stock in comparison to installing it from CM, won't I have to wipe and factory everything anyway?
Please clarify As said, I'm still very new to all of this!
if you are concern about bricking i suggest u make a nandroid backup or have another working rom on your sdcard. other than that process is the same.
Is there any way to do this without internet connection on my phone? My carrier stopped my internet connection because I forgot a bill I can't get rom manager due to not being able to get to market, any .apk or such?
I just bought a Motorola Milestone from a friend with android 2.2.2 fryo already installed and running at 800mhz.
i was just wondering since this isnt exactly the latest rom, how easy is it to install a new rom (are they all ready to go, no weird stuff to install after?) and to go back to the current rom just in case.
it also already has been rooted.
it is very easy. does the phone already have an open recovery installed on it?
dont know really.. i have ROM Manager installed, believe this also contains backup thingy like NANdroid?
Well if you have clockwork recovery already installed just put the custom rom file in your sd card and boot in to recovery then wipe, install zip from sd, pick the rom, wait for it to finish then reboot.
since you're asking for a good rom, and for the relative howto, these are my 2c:
1) you should really put in your sdcard a good recovery, if you don't know what version you have at the moment. Download the zip and put it in your sdcard.
http://code.google.com/p/minimod/downloads/detail?name=Minimod%20V0.06.zip
MAKE A FULL NANDROID BACKUP before flashing roms, to get back easily
2) to me, CyanogenMod 7 is the best rom for daily use, since you have a sort of equilibrium between features and performance. I prefere original kabaldan rom, but you could also try OH NO! version. In general, all you have to do is put the zip file you want to flash in sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates, and reboot by holding camera button. You'll get either OpenRecovery menu (wher you'll find "apply update" functions) or standard recovery screen (a warning triangle).
If you get the triangle you have to press volume up and camera button together, and "apply update"; you'll get the aformentioned OpenRecovery menu.
If you want to try CyanogenMod 7, look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941346 (first post)
KEEP IN MIND that you'll have to put both the rom zip and the gapps zip in the updates fode of your sdcard (that is, these links: https://github.com/downloads/nadlabak/android/update-cm-7.1.2-Milestone-KANG-signed.zip and http://www.multiupload.com/NQAPSYPKIW)
2bis) you should give a look at the milestone development forum; you'll find info about almost every good rom you can use
Scoutme thnx for your reply! yes i was looking at cm7 so i am going to try that. So if i backup and the new rom sucks, i can just go back to the previous one using the backup. Just wanted to know, current rom is actualy really nice and fast, so dont know if cm7 is going to make it slower. Just gonna give it a try then^^

just updated with your link, works perfectly! phone seems fast enough, but does anyone know if its still clocked at 800mhz or is it al back to stock? anyone using this also clocked their phone becouse of getting slower? fyi it was already clocked when i got it
I just switched from ios to android and i've jaibroken several devices i now realize the two are very different. i am having trouble flashing a full STABLE rom...nightly are no problem...... I download a stable/nightly rom from either goo.im or xda-developers ON MY PHONE and it dowloads into data/media/downloads instead of sdcard/downloads (not sure if that matters) and after i wipe to install i chose the zip and attempt to flash it, two or 3 seconds pass and then i get a failed flash, only with a full/stable rom... the nightly flash just fine....i understand i must be doing something wrong, it might be the file, might be that the htc one is too new...any ways, anyone that can help i will be grateful!! the stable ones i have trouble with are ViperONE2.0.0 -made sure it was for att version- and Revolt- (both are .zip) Im using CUSTOM RECOVERY TWRP....thanks again!
I'm not very good at troubleshooting, but if you're new there may be a couple things that I could suggest that you haven't tried
So I always try to download directly from XDA... That's just been the easiest for me and that way I can read up on the ROM on the same page that I downloaded it from.
Before you flash (on twrp i think it's like the "install" button" you're going to want to use the factory wipe button to do a full factory reset. Doing so won't mess with the contents of the 'sdcard' directory.
Also always try and make sure the rom was downloaded over wifi. You ensure a higher quality download that way with a lower chance of data getting mixed up in the download.
And finally, a lot of the time nightlies are more stable than the official release, especially if the official is a few weeks or months old... The nightlies will contain fixes for bugs present in the official.

Thanks I will give it a try!
Every time I trie to update to the latest ROMs I notice they specifically target the new bootloader. I have no idea what the old vs new bootloader dilemma is about but I bet my device runs the old one, I read somewhere the white LG logo on startup hints to an old bootloader,
My question is how to upgrade my bootloader or ROM directly to Kitkat the easiest way possible, I bought my handset already CMed and unrooted but I have never done it myself.
Thank you in advance, and if you could bother throw in some links to relevant threadshttp://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

They are New Bootloader only! The process seems as easy as full wipe + flash the zip (my phone came with ROM Manager 4.5.0.1 with old recovery) but I fear my bootloader in incompatible. Is there a way to update or something.
Also does my sd card and all applications get removed, and how to back them up, also if I brick my device does the recovery still work to flash the back up or what? very noob I know, I learned alot of terms but never managed to make good sense of it all, thank you.............
Oh one minute my ROM Manager has an Install ROM from SD Card button, can I do it right inside ROM Manager?

With that you can backup/resotre and change the bootloader and alot more AiO-Toolkit
If you change the bootloader layout, as i know all stuf will be removed. so make a nandroid backup, if your new rom is not working and make a sdcard backup(also in aio) to get appdata back if you want.
If you dont want to download all apps new after having new rom use titanium backup. the recovery is not breakable. it will always work. not important if you **** your rom

As you do have CM 7.1 installed, I guess you've got a custom recovery installed too? I don't think you can directly use ROM manager to install a kernel, but you can use ROM manager to boot into recovery mode and flash the zip from there Just be sure to make a nandroid backup, just in case KK isn't compatible with 7.1.
If you ever want to get tonyp's CM 11 though, the AIO toolkit, as @Zubeplanet pointed out, is really easy to use to get the new bootloader.
Happy flashing!
I have an older vivid that I am trying to set up for a family member (wifi only no actual sim card ,phone access needed) I had 2 vivid's in the past which I had flashed wild child's WCX ROMs on and they worked very well. I have tried the cryogen ROM 10.2 I thin it was an it seemed to work well until I tried to access the internal or external SD cards and I find out there is some problems with this (no work around found yet least as far as I can find) I have now completely cleared the phone and tried flashing the clockwork mod recovery (as I am fairly sure I had the WCX recovery on it from before) Now I can get into the bootloder (and I just re locked and re unlocked it with the .bin file from the HTCdev site) now when I try to go into the recovery I get the HTC post screen and it just stays there. and when I try to turn it on normally I get the animated cryogen circle post and it will not go past that. I really liked the cryogen mod ROM from what I saw of it and it seem to be one of the latest versions of android out there available for this phone. my questions are...
1. what recovery do I need to flash the cryogen mod ROM?
2. what is the highest android ALL working ROM out there for the vivid? (I need access to the SD card)
3. any other suggestions that work well with this phone? (this is my project this weekend and I am not stopping till I get it worked out!! )
thanks for all of your help in advance the net is such a great place to learn and gain knowledge!!!!
