What I got out of that article was that HTC needed to prove that being s-off or even rooted caused the issue affecting the phone.
Edit: there is a thread about doing away with that flag. Let me research it out.

It says in the moonshine vs revone that you DON'T need to flash stock Hboot to s-ON? I'm confused at one point it says to next it says not to

Here's that section again:
"S-OFF: Moonshine vs. Revone
Revone does not install a custom hboot. So if you come here and flash my custom hboot and later go back with the backup i have here or with your own backup, you can then safely go back S-ON too.
Moonshine installs a custom hboot. So, if you come here and flash my custom hboot you will a.) loose moonshine special hboot and b.) you should also know that resetting moonshine S-OFF to S-ON is as dangerous as it is to do on my hboot, since its modded too! Moonshiners should also flash a stock hboot prior to set security back to ON."
Last sentence says to flash a stock hboot PRIOR to going s-on.
Edit: I know there are quite a few posts, but give it a read cuz someone probably asked the same type of question.

[Q] Warranty and returning to s - on

Hey guys I need your help, i have an incredible s that i made s-off using alpha rev x, now about three or four months after purchasing the phone it has an annoying dead pixel that i cant seem to remove, is there any way I could return my phone completely back to stock for warranty? Or will they even check this?

Just run a stock ruu .exe from the shipped roms collection thread in development.
That will return you to s-on.
Not so. I flashed an RUU the other day, and although it flashed back to a stock recovery, the Revolutionary hboot image remained.

Well you are in a different situation because you used revolutionary.
Revolutionary was designed in such a way that running ruu's would not affect the hboot.
Follow these steps here
Ah, that clears it up then. Thanks for pointing that out.

Alright thanks so much! Are there any issues I may run into when doing this, or a guide on how to install the stock?
Hit the search button or check out the guides in the development section for flashing a ROM.

So, what is the recommended way to root if Revolutionary can't be undone by running an RUU?

There is a way to completely undo Revolutionary. Just search this forum, it's been documented and posted here before.
Is Revolutionary the best root method these days?
I just got mine back from repair (noisy earpiece). I ran the ruu before I sent it back to CPW but left it S-off'd, as it was an xtc clip job. I don't think CPW even checked, as no charge for the repair. It came back re flashed to stock but still S-off'd.
So a stock ruu is flashed just like any other rom?

Also, which ruu is for virgin mobile canada? Sorry I'm new to this all and it gets confusing, after I return to the ruu can I re root my phone after servicing?
You can downgrade your hboot then flash the ruu it will update your phones hboot and get it back to stock s-on

Your going to have to S-OFF first... You need S-OFF first so that you can lock your boot loader again without it saying "relocked" and "tampered". I'd recommend Revone S-OFF since it does NOT install a custom boot loader and is very easy to use.

I know that if you can get a Windows Vitual machine running on Mac you can do it.
Then when the RUU is running you can search for the ROM
Check it out. I know if you use the HTC one AIIO toolkit you can flash the extracted data to your device. Even the recovery.img from a stock RUU.
Let me know how you get on

Lock the bootloader with revone and flash a RUU (European or WWE), like this one http://bugsylawson.com/files/file/1...13323127-1031113105-release-310878-signedexe/, then run revone and remove tampered message (if you have that) in bootloder but i would keep S-Off if i we`re you forever.

Unfortunately it comes up with this, and then fails at updating a while later. Turns out my hboot is 1.54 so I can't use revone right?
I remember there is a method of tricking the ruu in to thinking the device is older.if I'm not mistaken it's the changing of the cid
But someone would need to verify that one

You probably need S-Off for that right? I'm on the 1.54 hboot and the s-off method only works on 1.44 I think.
The thing is, I just noticed factory reset did not remove root.. So i'll try to unroot it first and then run the update agaib.

[Q] Bootloader says TAMPERED. Do I need S-OFF in order to remove the message?

Bear with me as this is my first HTC device in a long time. I got it used and the bootloader is unlocked but says **TAMPERED**. I understand I could relock it and return it to stock but it seems I need S-OFF in order to do this. Currently, the phone is still S-ON. What would be the correct steps in getting rid of the tampered message? If you can just guide me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Get s-off using revone

And don't go s-on again unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. There are quite a few prerequisites for s-on, otherwise you'll brick your phone!!!

You don't need it to relock, but it will say "Relocked" instead of "Locked"
With S-off you can change it to back Locked, like it was never touched.
The s-off guides have a list of requirements that you need before you get started if you do go that path.
Are you trying to make it look completely stock? Or just relocking? They require completely different things.

Doesn't 'tampered' just mean it's still got the custom recovery on it? Sure I've read if you get the stock one back on it goes away

I'll head over there and make sure to read.
I'm a bit hesitant of doing anything with it. I was looking to just change it back to stock completely and possibly selling it. People who don't really root their phones may be turned off by the whole tampered thing, especially if they want to send it back to HTC for repair or something.

Once you're s-off you can remove the tampered sign, and even lock (as opposed to relocked) using revone.
As long as you're on hboot 1.44.
You can even keep it s-off because some phones come s-off by default so service centers shouldnt be able to complain about that.
Do quite a bit of reading if you do want to go back to s-on, otherwise a brick can happen!

tried this, also tried relock and lock. When I try unlock it gives error same as relock.
But when I try to type in lock the return message is already locked.
tried flashing 2 europe RUU's in the RUU Bootloader screen (silver HTC Screen) and it keep saying error at signature verification.
Tried the unlock token route again but I get a message from HTCdev thas at the token is an invalid amount
There are adb commands you can use to unlock and lock the bootloader when you are s off. Maybe if you try using one of the temp root options. There are some guides on this site

So the news for today is, I have still yet to find a solution for this strange 1.57 HBOOT problem.
No matter what I try RUU or adb/fastboot commands Im getting signature verification failure each time, the strange thing is I know I'm missing something but cannot put my finger on it to make it right, its one of those silly basic things.
The phone on the other hand works perfectly normal as it should but would like to get back to 100% stock for warranty issue.

I know mate had an issue logging into HTC dev for 30 mins then all of a sudden i managed to login again got my token, unlocked bootloader, flashed custom recovery, rooted, s-off and im now flashing skydragon xperia edition 1.7.
Once All that is sorted I will be downgrading HBOOT, unroot, lock hboot and restore back to stock.
Seems like a long way around but might as well do it correctly.
I GOT THERE IN THE END LOLOLOLOL:highfive:
