So until a couple of days ago when I was in the phone and started typing a name it would then show the contact with there number. Now however it only picks up the number and not any letters. Can anyone tell me if I have done something to change this?
are you getting a FULL screen keypad ???? If yes, then get back to smart dial keypad in settings.....
Figured it out! It's because I deleted the sense keyboard! :banghead:

Does anyone know how to get rid of that grey square? why can I not customise myself?
a google search gave me a strange solution but it should be easier
Thx

It's taking the picture from your Google account. So you can either change it there or create a new contact with your info (phone, email, etc) and assign whatever photo you want to it.
I have a google picture but that doesn't show. I also tried creating a me contact but that does not work

The answer was already posted.
Create a new contact for your self with your phone number in it. Set your picture.
Once youve made a contact with your number and picture, it doesnt automatically create a picture for you in 'me'.
What I had to do was press on the grey 'me' icon in messaging, and then press on the contact info. Then press menu and edit contact, then press menu again and 'join' with the contact with your name and photo.
If the phone number reported by your SIM matches a contact for yourself with a picture, that should mean your picture ends up in the grey square.
Only problem is, if you have an oddball provider like Mobilicity Canada who doesn't program their SIM cards properly, you may have "unknown" as the phone number reported by your SIM, and any attempt to change that number on the SIM will fail.
Well I don't know what you guys are doing but I can't create a picture. I tried making a contact with my name and with the name me it all doesn't work foot me.
Oh well happy new year

All i had to do was add a contact as myself and name it "me" and put my number there and picture of course
You need to put your sim card in an "old" phone and save your number manually in the simcard, then put it back in nexus, and make a contact.

The OP should specify which provider they are using. Some providers write-protect their SIM cards so that you can't save your number on it.
The old phone method is what I found on google. It sound retarded and I don't have an old phone
But what's funny is that one says old phone and the other says I can just add a contact.
The latter doesn't work for me. I wonder how it does for them.

Just check-out the phone number in settings/status and create contact with that number. Android will recognize it.
For example: In settings i have "My phone number"
+82-109-xxx-xxxx
So i created contact with number (Didnt add "+82" because its a country code) 109-xxx-xxxx, give it my name and my photo and it worked.

It doesn't work because you need to do BOTH. You need to add your number to the sim card and add yourself as a contact.
Hi is there anybody that can help me with this.
In my country the cellphones service provider uses +506 before the phone number for the messages and the sms messages, my cellphone doesnt recognize this. I dont know who is sending me messages, i have to check my contacts phone number to see who is it. Is there a fix for this?
Add a second number to your contacts, with the prefix included...

is there a cab or something? i dont want to change all my contacts its gonna take me all week
You can do it through your Google account online. Download your contacts as csv, edit the fields, then upload the changes. Editing the fields should be easy, if you use find and replace...
Change at least one number from your phone, so you can see which field out gets assigned to...

Hi,
When i was on Fr19 i thought it was a bug, that when i make a new sms, and whatn to enter phone number that is not in the book, i have to use that stupid qwerty keyboard :S Now that i moved to new GB Rom, i still have this issue, either stock app or other marjet app as Go SmS pro.
I know i can choose in layout but i want it to be by default as Dialpad when entering a phone number
Anyone have a tip or hack to do this ?
thanks
You can use the default LG keyboard, or touchpal or any 12-key phonepad.
thanks for reply but did you understood my question ?
When i go into New SMS and want to type a number i get a normal qwerty keyboard, it is annoying to type numbers on it. What i want is a normal Phone numeric dialpad, which is more logic to automatically have when typing a phone number.
I am using the default LG keyboard.
I can do it by changing the Layout input of keyboard, but that problem is than it stay like this and for text i have to again change the layout to get qwerty keyboard,
You can understand it is quite annoying :S
Is this a normal behiviour ? or it ie me who is having an issue ?

It's quite normal. The reason is simple: The input field can be used *either* for inputting a phone number *or* for quickly searching your contacts. Searching your contacts requires letters, therefore the default keyboard is alpha-numeric. Unless you use another messaging app which allows you to input phone-numbers *only*, it will remain this way.
I can understand that we need to search so the keyboard is Standard Qwerty that show up when yoy first click
But what is not logic is when i press 123 it should understand that i dont want to search by name but type the number so it should show the Dialpad, that is how it works in iphone
So in Andriod it is normal and standard to have always qwerty keyboard :s I am surprised no one else has complained, may you guys only send SMS to your contact list lolzzz

Well, if Apple has that functionality, you can bet they've patented it as well, barring anyone else from using it.
Myself I cannot come up with any reason for SMSing anyone not in my contact list, but I'm sure you can.
Anyway, for now, that's the way it is on Android. (But I'm sure you can find another messaging app which will do what you want, until the patent-trolls notice.)
Hey mate,
Don't remember if on stock it's this way, but i'm on miui and I can enter Phone app(Dialer), dial a number with the number pad and then select "Send Message" so the sms app directly puts that phone on the message receiver...
Hope that works to u!!!
That can do a trick. I never used the dialer to send sms but thanks for the tip
No it is not dependent of what sms app you use all give same result as it is core feature of android.
Only way i found is to use another keyboard swiftkey which 123 is in Matrix format so more like a dialer but smaller
But i really hope someone can make a mod hack to show dialpad it will be handy and more logic

Or perhaps the ?123 key doesn't send us into a blind panic?
Lol
I buy a lot from site like kijiji. So i send a lot of sms to numbers which are not in contact list
Anyway having Dialpad when pressing 123 is more logic. Either in phone feild we want to type a name or a number

I have an unlocked Bell HTC One, currently on the Rogers network.
The voice mail number in the phone does not match the voice mail number that Rogers gave me. When I go to the settings to change the number it does not allow me. It doesnt let me select the number, its kind of washed out and no options available on the screen.
Tried searching everywhere... I would really like to have the functionality of holding the 1 key to dial.
Screenshot attached.
*edit - I unlocked with with a pin number. Have not touched the software on this one yet. It's completely stock.
I think you can just go into the build.prop and change it to whatever you like. Make a backup first just in case though...

That is the Rogers voicemail number. It's read straight from your sim card. No need to change it.

The feature of the HTC One consolidating all messages to under the same person with different phone numbers is annoying for me.
many people i know have a personal and work mobile phone, so 2 numbers.
but the messaging app consolidates and puts it under the same name, so everytime i want to text i have to go to the menu and select which to send to
is there a way to remove this feature, or the only way is to create 2 contacts for the same person in the phonebook?
TIA
I think you could go to edit contact and unlink the numbers. Not positive but I think it could work.

thanks for the suggestion, haven't tried it out since i downloaded the Go Pro sms right after posting
i think i'll just stay with this app, more options and customizing
