Hey all,
I have a Rogers HTC Raider and I have been trying to root it. I followed all the steps up to flashing a kernel which I got from the SUPERGUIDE. Below I have quoted the step I was on and will explain where I am "stuck."
Once I completed the flash and the phone rebooted, it got stuck at the ROGERS logo screen. I left it on as long as I could wait but nothing. I battery pulled and went back into recovery trying to wipe the boot data.. even tried factory reset. Still no luck.
Can I get back into the OS to fix this? Can I fix this from the bootloader menu?
Thanks for the help.
(Optional) Flash a custom Kernel/Recovery (Three options, I suggest the THIRD)
*ATTENTION* IF FLASHING A KERNEL FOR A NEW ROM YOU WANT, YOU MUST FLASH THE ROM IMMEDIATELY AFTER FLASHING THE KERNEL WITHOUT BOOTING UP, THE KERNEL COMES FIRST. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT BOOT LOOP.
THIRD (Manual) (Pirateghost's method)
- Extract the boot.img out of the kernel file or ROM zip that you want and put it in the same directory as your fastboot.exe/fastboot executable (it might be easiest to download the WCXJB_ROOT_PACK.zip from below and unzip it, put the boot.img in there)
- Boot phone into hboot/bootloader (make sure you are in fastboot mode)
- Connect phone to PC
- Inside the unzipped WCXJB_ROOT_PACK folder, click shift + right click, select "open a command window here"
- Enter these codes separately to flash the kernel and reboot the phone
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot

Now that I'm looking over the instructions I followed I do remember flashing the VIVID_CWM ROOT onto my phone. I can navigate around the recovery just fine but I keep getting:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p35 (File exists)
E:Can't open CACHE:recovery/log
No matter what menu I navigate to it'll see those 2 lines of script

It's in the Rom zip, assuming your not s-off it must be flashed separately
You can check if your s-off by going to hboot, toward the top it will say s-off or s-on...which basically means security off/on - its another level of security HTC added on above the bootloader
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
It says s-on
so what do i do from here?
Put your boot.img into the folder which your fastboot and adb are and then open a terminal to the folder. Then put your phone into fastboot by entering the bootloader. Then type fastboot devices to see if your device is connected to the computer. If it comes up with your serial number continue if not try again. Then type fastboot flash boot.img and then go to recovery and reflash the rom.

Download either TWRP or WCX recovery. As long as your phone can get to the bootloader, you can get into Fastboot and flash the recovery again. Make sure the recovery is in the same folder where you have the adb.exe and fastboot.exe. Open up a command prompt, then change directory to where your fastboot and adb are. Type in fastboot flash recovery "recovery".img where "recovery" would be the name of the recovery file you download. This will flash pretty quickly. Once you get to that point, you probably are S-On so you need to make sure to extract the boot.img from the ROM you downloaded. Use either winrar or 7zip to extract the boot.img to the same location where you have the fastboot.exe and adb.exe. Then go to the command prompt again and change directories to the same folder where you have fastboot and adb. Type in fastboot flash boot boot.img. I usually would run this 3 times to make sure it loads properly. Once that is done reboot the phone again.
Sorry I used it on the HTC evolution 4g and it worked so I figured it would work for vivid

No, flashing the rom won't erase the data. Usually when moving between rooms, it's a good idea to wipe data anyway. I did not wipe data moving from the previous stock rooted rom to this update.
The firm doesn't touch the data either.

once rebooted type "adb reboot recovery" without the quotes and press enter
Hopefully that will get you going

So, where did I go wrong? When I tried to flash the stock rom TWRP gave me an error on the zip (Sprint_HTC_One_1.31.651.2_Stock_Rooted). The reboot got me into the loop.
I need help with this as well. I'm rooted with s-off (not moonshine method) and after flashing the stock_rooted zip in TWRP, everything appears to work until after it displays the "updating android apps" window, then it just hangs on "finishing boot". Do I need to re-flash my custom rom as well prior to rebooting? I'm using tranquil rom by the way.

If you still need help, I wrote this guide for you and anyone else who is confused.
Now that you have unlocked the bootloader follow these steps.
1. Boot into the bootloader by pressing volume down + power.
2. Press the power button to enter fastboot.
3. Make sure that beneath the first few lines on the top of the screen it says fastboot usb highlighted in red.
4. Find a version of TWRP, WCX, or whatever recovery image you are going to use and then extract it into the folder on your computer.
5. In CMD, type this:
fastboot flash recovery "name of the file.img"
6. Press [bootloader] to go back to the main menu (without the brackets).
7. Scroll down with the volume button to recovery.
8. Boot into recovery.
If your recovery works, do this to use a custom rom.
9. Go back into the bootloader by turning your phone off and then using power + volume down.
10. Download a custom rom and open up the .zip file. Then, extract the file named boot.img and extract it into the folder on your computer.
11. Enter fastboot and type this into CMD:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
12. Go back into your recovery (following the steps above from 6-8). Mount your internal SD card and put on the file of the custom rom you wish to use onto your storage. Be sure to copy the file in .zip format, not after it has been extracted.
If your custom rom needs Google Apps, then download the correct file which should be specified in the download area of your rom's post.
13. Go back into the main menu of your recovery and then choose the option to flash the file.
14. Choose the file that you have just loaded onto your storage.
15. Flash Google Apps if you need it.
16. Thank me if it worked
works like a charm:laugh:

Guys I need your help please..I root the tablet and flash Cromix ROM but the speaker went to crap..lots of crackling and distorted noise. So I went into recovery and flashed jb-4.3_ota-full_tf701t-macallan.zip to go back to stock. It did but its unstable and the speaker is still horrible..So I tried going to Asus Web site and DL the UL-K00C-WW-10.26.1.18-user.zip and put it in my Sd card and rebooted the device chosing RCK and it gives me an error..also did a wipe data on the option by the RCK...I cannot get it back to factory stock..what did I do wrong?
About in the settings
Build number
JSS15J.US_epad-10.26.1.18-20131217
020115_2013102100002
Then in Recovery is the Macalla-user BL released by "Us_epad-10.26.1.7-20131108"
I don't want to send it back to Asus, they are gonna charge me to fix this problem..Thanks
anyone please have any idea?
At least on tf201 (ordered my tf701 today) flashing stock rom downloaded straight from asus is a big no no on unlocked bootloader. You wiped data in rck? Do you mean in recovery or in the menu where are rck, fastboot and wipe data (just making sure)
How about in what state is your tablet now?

You can try this:
Download the stock recovery from here: http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3210
Copy the image to your fastboot folder.
Download the Asus firmware, unzip the file once and copy it to your internal SD.
Boot tablet into fastboot
Issue this command
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Note: Do not flash the recovery, just boot it.
It should recognize the firmware file on your tablet and flash it.
BTW, I doubt the rom has anything to do with your speaker problem, but it would be interesting to find out. Please report back.

YOU DO NOT FLASH THE RECOVERY IMAGE!
Boot it. Read the post and command.
You basically sideload the recovery. Instead of flashing it to your device, you boot it from your PC. But it should still function as if installed.
If you get an error, write it down. Exactly as it reports it.

To fix this I used the recovery image. I can get into it just fine but when I try to install SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip it goes through the motions, but rebooting the phone just brings me back into recovery mode. Any ideas on what's wrong?

I'm not sure what firmware I'm on but I did update it just before I tried all this. I did unlock my bootloader and used boot.img to get into recovery mode. Super su is done through recovery mode right? Because every time I try to install it it just returns to recovery mode with no changes

Flashing that img gives me an error "writing: 'recovery' FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
If you want to try TWRP, try Dual Boot recovery with Philz Touch CWM Advanced Edition and TWRP by shoey63.

fastboot flash boot boot.img
By the way, the guide you were following is outdated and has an old version of the kernel, that's why you went into a bootloop.

It booted properly. Thanks. So from there it's just installing zip? Or are there any other steps?
Flash a SuperSu zip and you're rooted. Simple as that.
I suggest this one - SuperSU zip.
