[Q] Nandroid Backup? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Just a quick question about nandroid backup.
I am on ARHD 11.5, say if i backup then wipe and install say CM, and later i want to go back to ARHD, to i have to install ARHD again then preform the restore, or can i restore whilst being on CM and it will bring it back to ARHD in the process?
Thanks

you have to backup all the partitions, system, data, etc (except cache), if you are in CM, you should restore to ARHD, without problems, i recommend to do a normal wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) then restore your nandroid, but perform the restore from CM should work...

Wiping and Nandroid

Hello.
i'm curious about installing cm7. i know it requires a full wipe. i'm on cm6.
i've never wiped the phone before and i'm wondering if a wipe affects previous nandroids? if i wipe the device now, and then choose to reload a previous nandroid backup, will the wipe cause the backup harm? or, by reloading the nandroid, everything gets put back where it was?
does that make sense?
thanks.

the latter.
A nandroid backup is like a snapshot of the system, it will back up everything (except SD card). I have found that after a nandroid restore the phone even remembers where I had a song paused!
thank you, guys.
i'm gonna try to flash a new rom tonight without fear.

[Q] Wipe and Factory settings and CWM restore

Does someone know, if I wipe cache, wipe dalvik, restore factory settings in my GB rom and then restore the CWM backup, then all the wiping and factory settings done before would be useless?

Restore only works if I wipe data

Hi,
using CWM recovery, I restored a backup. Everything seemed ok, but the phone didn't go past the cyanogenmod logo.
I tried wiping cache, dalvik, and re-restored. Still nothing.
The only way I've found is to wipe the data; this way the phone started, but obviously it's like a brand new cyanogen install (it's not a restore...)
What went wrong?
Anything I can do???
I want to know why restoring the backup didn't work; I didn't get any error messages during backup or restore.
How can I trust the backups???

Custom ROMs upgrades

Stupid Noob question... Once a Custom ROM (CM or SlimLP) has been installed..
- What is the easiest way to keep it upgraded?
- Are there OTA upgrades for them?
- Or only flashing a newer ROM version is the only option? If this is the only way, what is the best way to preserve the apps and settings?
The easiest and safest way to keep the ROM updated (from what I know, anyway) is to download the newest version of the ROM and clean flash it (erase system, dalvik, and cache). I don't think there's OTAs for this version, as none of the ROMs here are official. When you flash a newer the ROM, all your data will be saved, unless you wipe internal storage.

That's not a clean flash, that's called a "dirty" flash.
User data and settings are retained by doing a dirty flash but if you experience any bugs or problems after a dirty flash, then backup your apps, user data, settings & do a clean flash instead. Backup using Titanium Backup or your choice from the multitude of backup apps.
Dirty flash = wipe cache, dalvik cache and system.
Normal clean flash = wipe dalvik cache, cache, data and system. Always do this if you come from stock or another rom.

Think it'll depend what you restore from Titanium as to how clean it remains afterwards.

so if you already have installed SlimLP and want to upgrade and not lose your stuff, do a "Dirty flash"?
Yes.
But if you see any problems after a dirty flash, refrain from posting about the problem. First do a clean flash then check if the problem still exists.
thanks for the info all!

[Q] problem with nandroid backup, pleas help me :)

guys I have a problem with restoring the nandroid backup on MI 8 Global
I have the TWRP 3.2.3-3, I made the complete nandroid backup of weekly rom 9.8.1 (system, vendor, image system, efs etc ... etc .. etc. ..) .... after executing the wipe data , dalvik, system and cache I tried to install another rom (not old miui firmware but AOSP resurection remix) but it returned error 7 and I then gave myself the restore .... I tried to restore the complete nandroid backup excluding only efs (system, vendor, image system etc ... etc .. etc. ..) but the phone no longer starts the miui but restarts continuously (it is not brick but no longer loads the rom)
for greater clarity I write the various steps performed
entered recovery
resurection remix installation but gave me the error 7
I redid the advanced wipe for system, data, dalvik, cache
I did the full restore except for EFS and recovery (boot, system, vendor image etc .....)
reboot
bootloop
where would I have gone wrong and in particular how can I correctly restore the nandroid backup ?????

Xiaomi.eu ? If yes, install 9.8.1, restart to system, restart to twrp and restore only data. Change old twrp to the latest 3.3.1.1

before installing the 9.8.1 I have to do a full wipe (system, data, dalvik etc.) or just a soft wipe (without system)
a curiosity I have the xiaomi.eu for a long time, the xiaomi.eu has the rool back or not ?? why resureciont remix gave me error 7 using 9.8.1 by first running a full wipe or simply not having to delete system ??
because nandroid backup not working correctly??

Do a full wipe. The old twrp probably caused error 7 when you installed RR. Try 3.3.1.1. Besides that firmware 9.6.20 is the best for almost all custom roms based on Pie

Not exactly about NANDroid backup but about TWRP.
a) some twrp versions won't restore and backup properly. The suggested twrp above has no issues.
b) you can't use NANDroid backups with different versions of TWRP. You need to restore it using the version you had the backup, so your backup is probably trashed now.
