[Q] Help Choosing my HTC One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I had a Galaxy S3 that died (suddent death problem) and I don't want another samsung device. I really liked the One and I need some help choosing the right one.
I liked the Black version a lot and I would like to get one. AT&T uses the same bands that we have here in Brazil and could work here fine. But I would also have to sim unlock it and to unlock the bootloader (for root acess). Additionally, I don't know that are the differences (hardware and software wise) from the AT&T version and the direct HTC version.
Since I will be using her ein Brazil, with no warrant, I will install a custom ROM.
The other option would be ordering the Silver HTC version direclty from HTC Shop online. I will save on tax (I think that HTC doesn't charge tax to ship the phone to California) will get a sim unlocked phone and it will be easier to boot unlock it.
So what do you guys suggest?
BTW: Do you know if I can buy the One AT&T version, in a store without a US address (can be AT&T store or Best Buy)? Of course I'll be buy it with no plan, but I don't know if AT&T would sell it for someone that doesn't have a US address.
Thanks
PS: Do you know if AT&T sells one month pre-paid voice and data plan? Instead of using my own Brazilian number, and paying for international roamming I want to get a one month voice and data plan to use while on my vacation.

Not too sure about the AT&T ones and the bands that are used in Brazil, but I can confirm that black units chip quite easily. There's lots of reports of the colour coming off after some use. My gf's black HTC One already has some parts at the top chip off revealing the silver underneath after less than 2 weeks use, all the while being carried in a leather pouch.

Yeah.. All my previous phones were AT&T version (except for the S3 - I got the International Version) and they all worked fine here. So the AT&T version is second only to the HTC International version.
Didn't know about the chip problem. I always use Skinomi screen and body protector, but even the chip could be a problem in the future.
And how about the Camera glass breaking problem? Does anyone knows if the new units still suffering from this issue?

I haven't actually seen a broken camera lens, and have not seen any reports of it on any local forums as well (we have a thread for HTC One that is like 3000 pages long now lol). Could be very isolated issues

And do you have any information about Sim Unlock and Bootloader unlock for the AT&T version?

I had an order in with LetsTalk shipping to CA, and they did charge sales tax.

Diamond on PR

Hello everyone, I'm new in this and English is not my first language so excuse me for my bad english. I'm planing to buy the HTC Diamond but I live in PR and I'm stock with cingular for one more year I think, so if I buy the phone what do I have to do to make it work with my cingular SIM card?
thanks
Where are you planning to buy it from?
I'm planning to buy it from ebay. Is there any web site where I can find it for less?
Mine works in PR
I can tell you about my experience with the sprint one. I ordered the day it arrived on US and when it got here the net wasn't working and overall crappy. Sure most of the problems are now fixed but thanks to the community. You can try it normally or you can purchase on of these to make it work.
http://www.opirata.com/sigma-xsim-alpha-p-1718.html
You can always try CTI-Miami, or some other third party reseller. Also, you just need to put the SIM card from your old phone into your diamond for it to work (that's all you need to do).
so I don't have to unlocked it or do anything like that? It will work with my cingular SIM.

well, as long as you buy a unlocked one, then you will be fine. (it should be unlocked anyway, since at&t isn't offering the diamond.)
The unlocked ones are more expensive than the ones that are for sprint, isn’t and easy way to unlocked them by myself?

you can't use the one for Sprint on at&t, they use two totally different technologies, GSM vs. CDMA. so even if you buy the sprint one, you can't use it on at&t.
ok, thankyou everyone for your help!!!!! I guess I will have to save a bit more haha.

Bell Tab unlocked to Rogers and phone?

I'll be doing more searching to be certain but since my Galaxy S is in for the 3rd repair and I'm sick of it there is a slight chance I can trade for a Tab. I have the Bell Galaxy unlocked running on Rogers so if I trade for a Tab it will be the Bell version.
So, is it reasonable to think that I can unlock it, flash it, and run a Rogers SIM and get 3G on it like I do the Galaxy? I can get 6+Mbs on the Galaxy. And can I get it to do phone duties? Of course this is only useful if I use a headset.
Any Bell Tab users running on Rogers around here?
Bell Tab user running on Telus. Same difference.
Just follow the unlock and flashing threads on the main forum for the AT&T version, it all applies to the Bell and Rogers tabs.
I have a Bell tab running on Sasktel but it is unlocked and could run on any north american provider. I also have the phone working. I found all the directions to do this on these forums.

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure if there are many versions like there are with the S which can cause trouble (A U.S. Vibrant rom an a Bell Vibrant == bad news).
There's only a slight chance I can get one but the shop has mentioned they'll discuss it since they know how bad the S corruption problem is.
So the bottom line is that there is little doubt that a Bell spec'd Tab (not yet sure if there are radio differences between the different offerings) can run full 3G speed on a Rogers network and can use standard voice? I have no doubt that VoIP is ok but if I can make it act like a bigger version of the Galaxy S then I'm good. I won't ask how to do it since I can research no problem. I just want to be prepared to tell the shop that yes I'll swap for a Tab.

No doubt whatsoever. None. Zilch. Nada.
It's a sure thing, a cinch, dead certain.
Follow the instructions for unlocking and the AT&T how-to-flash-voice in this forum.
You'll get full 3G on both bands, you'll be able to fall back on Roger's EDGE network if need be (great for saving battery life too), and you'll have world-wide GSM voice, via speakerphone, Bluetooth, or the included wired headset.
I want to know how you convinced them to swap the Galaxy S for a Tab. Mine is in repair right now and I'd love to do that
I didn't, it is just a possibility. Actually they brought it up after my successful campaign to convince them that I used the SGS as a tablet and is why I don't show up as a Bell customer. We're not supposed to be able to buy them without at least a PAYG plan but that was my other success when initially buying what is now my regret. You'd think that buying the full price no contract would allow that but the fine print says no. It took me 5 stores before I was able to outsell the salesman.
I'm pleased however with how nice people have been so far around here. I did see a brief spat over someone's claim to use their Tab as a primary phone. That's what I intend to do since voice is low usage for me but I'd still need voice at times. The Tab can stay tucked away and use a headset so I'm not too worried about the size. I'm old with fat fingers so the size is very useful for me.
I'm in the same boat. I've got the Captivate from Rogers, and I picked up the Tab from Bell. (Way cheaper from Bell buying it outright) I'm going to hack the phone into working and unlock it tonight.
Voice is the least used feature of my phone, but I still need to have it.
I've just got to figure out a way to carry it around easily come summer when the Jacket pockets go back into the closet.
Let us know how it goes. If I get the same defective hardware back from repair I'll be asking to trade for a Tab. So with you having a Bell Tab and making it work on Rogers with voice is something I want to hear about. Did you get one month PAYG SIM? It seems you have to activate it to get it at the best price.

I signed up for the Tablet Flex Plan, but then cancelled it. I'm going to be billed for an extra month, so I'll use it sparingly and just eat the cost...
I bought minbe from Future Shop out right without having to go month to month or anything. The Rogers one was $20 cheaper aswell when Buying out right. $629 on Rodgers vs. $649 on Bell. If you want to avoid having to pay for a month of service and another sim just get it from Best Buy or Future Shop. They also have open box ones for $609.
Hey guys got a tab today on rogers , does anyone now if canadian tabs have Media Hub? Cant find it anywhere?

I am new to android devices, and I have a few questions:
#1. I got a tab with bell as the carrier.
#2. The bluetooth does not pick up headset or handsfree profile devices at all
I want to use a headset with this device
If I do the flashing and install new roms, will I be able to get the bluetooth to work?
Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it satisfactorally?
Rogers Stock Rom
Rogers tab stuck at samsung logo. I need to reflash to Rogers FW. Anyone has it ?
Thanks
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but could someone please let me know if there have been any changes to the flashing procedure?
I am a new owner of a Bell Canada Galaxy tab, and would love to have it unlocked, in order to use it freely...
Someone here noted that their Tab was already unlocked when bought - how would I go about to verify if mine is locked or not?
Thank you and sorry if my questions are too "noob"-ish...

Easiest way is to stick another carriers sim in the slot and see if you get signal. I unlocked my Bell Tab and use it on Telus as my main device (phone and all).
I used this for unlock. Then just follow the guide for the Overcome GB flash and you'll be set.

If you have phone capabilities you can go to the dial pad and type
*#7465625#
check the first value network lock and that will tell you if it's unlocked or not.

[Q] Will an imported HTC ONE work in India?

Hi,
Many carriers like at and t , verizon offer a very low price for HTC ONE. The price was very reasonable too. But if i buy one (locked - contracted) and unlock it, will it work in India with airtel, idea etc?
It just costs 300USD for a 64GB HTC ONE for a 2 year contacted phone. Factory unlocked and third person unlocked are very pricey ( 400$ ) . So , if i buy one, will it work if i unlock it? If so, how do i unlock it?
Thank You
Hoping For an answer soon .
Sorry if im doing anything wrong, im new here ._.

If its a GSM phone, it will work bindaas
If its CDMA, then HELL NO
Verizon and Sprint WILL NOT WORK
The GSM phone will have to be unlocked though.
Just FYI, factory unlocked is a LOT more than $400
A new One will be at least 35K INR
Check on ebay.in... There are few at lower price, and as said by raghav, GSM will work, as mine is working too on idea..... Buy after m8 is released at the end of this month, prices might fall down for htc one

You do realize that you'll still have to pay the termination fee in case you break the contract? Also, the price without a contract is $669.

Its is just a Down-payment for the device, you might have to sign a 1 or 2 year contract with AT&T and use their services.

You can get one for around 25k on Ebay. Look for unlocked ones. These won't carry warranty in India though...

24.5k is an AMAZING deal
however, the phone needs to be a 'CDMA Global Ready' and must come with a removable SIM to work in India.
Check whether these 2 conditions are met. Or post the link to the phone if available

raghav kapur is spot on. I have got 'like new' gsm phones from ebay and swappa ; sim unlocked them either via software or buying a 3 dollar unlocking service from ebay (there are many of them), and using it in India. I have no experience wiith CDMA phones.
Remember, official warranties never get transferred the moment you buy a pre owned phone. [ymmv as sometimes the US store associates help you out]
I will not recommend signing a US contract and terminating it. If you are not aware of how your credit rating is related to SSN and how it stays on your profile for long long time, please research about this. Credit profiles in US are little tighter compared to credit profiles in India. Further , warranty of US phones is not honored outside US.
Although pricier option, getting a factory unlocked phone 'MAY' give you global warranty and you can get service from India outlets too. Please double check before buying.

Actually Verizon will work. Ever since the HTC Rezound (Sensation XE clone for Verizon) all HTC phones made for Verizon are SIM unlocked and global ready. They have both GSM and CDMA radio radios in them. Albeit, the GSM radio only supports global frequencies so you have to be sure your carrier uses the same freq.
"Verizon: 800/1900MHZ, UMTS/HSPA 900/2100MHz,GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz, LTE 700MHz (Band 13)"
from HTC's site on what the Verizon branded HTC one will support. Please understand what you are telling people before you say it will not work.

Source link click specs and scroll to "network" it shows each m7 brand and what frequencies it will support.

[Q] Sprint/T-Mobile N6 on Verizon Questions.

Hey all,
After several failed attempts at trying to get the N6 from the Google Play Store (It keeps disappearing from my cart... that's fun.), I'm thinking of just getting it from either T-Mobile or Sprint, and transferring it over to Verizon (current carrier). But with that, I have a couple of questions...
1) Are both versions of the phones rootable/unlockable? I realize that they're the same phone, however I know carriers do weird things with them so you never know. (Coming from the Note 2, and Verizon likes to lock everything down...)
2) Does the Sprint version of the phone have any kind of carrier branding? Also, I read somewhere that the T-Mobile version doesn't have branding, though can someone confirm this?
3) Will the T-Mobile version work with Verizon? I read on here that the Sprint version works just fine...
Thanks to anyone who can give some insight to any of these questions.
Edit: Also, which variant would you choose? (Assuming I can get either that is...)

these "variants" are all exactly the same phone, no difference radio wise. tmobiles nexus 6 is exactly like the nexus 6 that you buy on google play. the only difference is that its bought at a tmobile. anyways, i dont think they will sell it to you, unless you have an account.
Sprint and T-Mobile and google play store are all the same. Once you insert a T-Mobile Sim card the VPL's will be installed which is just one app, T-Mobile my account app, which you can delete., When you insert the sprint sim, there are no VPL's nothing will be installed besides the google apps and no carrier branding. With a sprint card inserted, sprints hands free activation will be on the start up screen. It was a feature built into every n6 no matter where you purchased it. Prob made it easier to update all with OTAs. I would only worry about the att variant.

Sorry for the delay, I wanted to give it a couple of days before posting the results. Basically I ordered the Sprint version off of Amazon on Monday, and it arrived on Tuesday. Trimmed down the Micro SIM card in my phone (from the Note 2) down to the Nano SIM required for the Nexus 6. Popped in into my new Nexus, and it worked just fine! No issues at all, and I didn't have to call Verizon or do anything with them really. It simply worked after trimming it and placing it into the new phone.
In addition (if anyone is following this thread) I will answer my own questions in sequence.
1) Now I'm not entirely sure about the T-Mobile version, but the Sprint variant is fully unlockable and rootable. As tdoughone mentioned, this phone is EXACTLY the same thing you would be getting from the Google Play Store with the exception that there is a Sprint SIM card in the phone. (The T-Mobile variant may be the same exact way in that regard.) That is literally the only difference.
2) On the Sprint variant ordered from Amazon, there is NO carrier branding. So if you do decide to order it from there, there is no indication that the phone was any part of Sprint. (i.e. How Verizon likes to plaster their logo approximately fifty million times on their devices' exteriors.)
3) And since I went with the Sprint variant (the T-Mobile variant was on backorder on their webpage), I cannot comment fully on this. But again, as tdoughone has said, I'm assuming that this would be the same exact thing you would be getting from the Google Play Store, but you would more than likely get the T-Mobile SIM kit.
If anyone has any more questions regarding this, I would be more than happy to answer them. To be honest though, I was amazed by how [insanely] easy it was to get this phone up and running. If I had purchased a phone from Verizon, there definitely would have been more work involved.
Also, thank you for all the helpful posts! It was greatly appreciated!

no matter where you buy it, its the exact same phone. now the att variant does have a locked sim(and other crap), but is the same phone when the sim is unlocked. tmobiles version is the same as google play, nothing tmobile added to it, and will work on all providers.

Did you set it up on a plan? If so, which did you choose? I thought about doing this but calling in, cancelling and telling them in keeping the phone doesn't sound fun.

I just got the phone off of contract, and paid full price for it. I just didn't want to deal with any of the BS of trying to cancel it, and paying termination fees and that.

May I ask if your Sprint Nexus 6 was purchased from this link?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PI1G69K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I read the reviews and one guy claimed that the Sprint set he bought from Amazon is sim-locked.
Hoping that's not the case!

Yup! That is the same exact one I ordered! Like I said, I didn't have any issues with it whatsoever. More than likely though, those people have no idea what they're talking about. However, if you are worried about it doing something weird, DO NOT start the phone until you have your own SIM card in it. It'll come with a Sprint one pre-installed inside the phone - don't boot it up until you replace it. That's what I ended up doing, and I haven't had any issues with Verizon at all.

Thank you so much. My mind is so much more at ease now. Haha. Kinda shocked that the phone is actually shipped with a SIM card pre-installed inside the phone though.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of odd that they placed it in the phone, I figured they would have it just off to the side or something? But I think I replied to your thread about the same question, oh well... You now have two answers from the same person.
I'm on Verizon and I got it from T-Mobile for same reasons. While there are small issues, it works well. LTE speeds on par as iPhone 6+. Highest I've seen was 80mbps. Voice quality is pretty good, the only issue I really have had was no voice and data as well as LTE switching.
Sprint nexus 6 is more expensive and is sim locked. My business partner got his there while I got mine at T-Mobile and mine worked out of the box and he had to return his lol.

The posts above you just indicated that their Sprint version is unlocked. Sprint sells the N6 for $648 retail and TMO sells it for $649.92.

Oh no.. this is bad....
Buying from Best Buy??
So whats to stop a person from buying a Sprint N6 from BB (to take advantage of that 18 mo. financing) and cutting down my Note2 sim and heading off into the Nexus sunset? I was told that all the phones are sim locked from BB.
Thoughts?
Well, the only thing I can add is that I paid full price for mine. So technically, it should not have been tied to any kind of Sprint account. If you did the same thing(s) that I did, I would think that you would have the same results as myself. With a couple confirmed successes, I would say that you would be fine and that it isn't SIM locked?

This has never mattered before, all Sprint devices were sold locked. People bought iphone 6 etc full price and can't get unlock from Sprint, they refuse. This is all supposed to change for devices MANUFACTURED after Feb 11, 2015.
I thought the sprint N6 was supposed to be sim unlocked however. Now it seems some are saying the initial handsets released were. But the most current batch is locked. That's totally F'd up, mine is set to deliver today.

[Q] Where can I buy a Nexus 6 NOW in Miami?

Hey guys -- I'm currently on the hunt for a Nexus 6. An uncle of mine is in Miami at the moment and he's buying me one.
Thing is, he's not too technology-literate. So I'm trying to guide him. Anyone knows where I could tell him to buy me a phone? It's also to be used in Europe (is that fine? I believe the N6 is unlocked so it should work, right?).
If anyone could help out, I'd appreciate it. I've called 2 T-Mobiles (the ones their online support suggested) and both were out of stock. I also have a MAJOR preference for the Cloud White one. I really need help locating a specific place that has the phone in stock right now.
Thanks in advance.
there are two versions of nexus 6, us version and all other countries version. in the united states, they only sell the us version. you can buy it at selected tmobile locations, or selected sprint locations. or you can order over the phone from tmobile, and have it sent to you via ups.
If you're looking for a Cloud White one at a physical brick and mortar store. Good luck with that, most stores offer only Midnight Blue. You can find Cloud White only online at Motorola or Google Play Store and you'll have to wait for your order to be shipped.
Inventory of N6 can't meet the demand as of right now. Pretty much buying a N6 means you're on a queue, unless you get it from a carrier but even then with a carrier, it can be a queue.

Dang, that's a shame. I mean, I could settle for a Midnight Blue one, I suppose. But from what you've said, that seems hard to get as well. Thing is, I'm not in the US, and calls to stores cost me a ton. What I really wanted was someone who heard or knows that there's availability in a certain store, so I can have my uncle go there and buy one.
I guess that's a bit too much to ask online, but I'm pretty desperate to get my hands on some Google.
You can check best buy stores, they have online inventory listings. Just have to put in the zip code of wherever your uncle is
Edit: these will of course be carrier branded phones (AT&T or Sprint) unlocked version has to be straight from Google or Motorola I believe

The AT&T model can be unlocked, and they have the midnight blue ones in stock. Is that an option for you?

As simms22 mentioned in an earlier post, there are two variants of the Nexus 6.
XT1103 is the model for the Americas and XT1100 is the global model for the rest of the world (including Europe).
As far as I understand, the main difference is that each model supports different network bands.
More info: http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/nexus-6-header/Nexus-6/nexus-6-motorola-us.html#nexus-6-specs
To be on the safe side, I'd check that that the US variant of the N6 supports the GSM/WCDMA/LTE bands of your network provider before purchasing it.
I did see that Miami is one of the few markets that T-Mobile actually stocks the N6 in store, so maybe call a couple more. Also, if you're okay with the 32GB midnight blue, you can have them order it and overnighted. I ordered mine on Tuesday and got it yesterday.

US Cellular has both CW and Blue so you might want to give them a call.
