Hello Everyone,
I recently sold off my Vibrant and was looking at LG Optimus 2X as my next stop
However alot of people have discouraged me from buying this cell looking at the BSOD and other bugs but i still have a feeling that this phone is worth it because of low price and very good hardware.
As you guys are using it, it will be best if you can tell me about your experience with this phone which can help me make a decision.
I am getting this phone for like 325$ slightly used in Canada or 220 Pounds from UK.
Just write your Experience in this way:
Pros : Tell what in your opinion makes this phone preferred over others.
Cons: Please Explain the Problems here as thats the main cause stopping most of people from getting this shiny thing Explain it like:
1) Problem + How frequently you encounter this? + Has there been any fixes ?
I will be very thankful to all the community here using LG Optimus to tell us more about this Phone and take out any misconceptions about this phone If any
Thanks guys
EDIT: I made a simple poll to summarize the views of whole community in a quick glance
Well :
pros : cheap, tegra, IPS screen
cons :
-2.2, maybe no update to 2.3
-very very very bad drivers (aka baseband), implies :
Double core but cant install one single app without huge lags (even symbian is faster), probably due to bad scheduling
Reboots, freezes and random lags : more or less fixed
3G signal loss, even on perfect coverage, wifi error.
.....
Well, you just need to NOT buy it

Pros
1. Dual Core Tegra 2
2. 8mp Camera
3. 1080p video recording and playback
4. HDMI Out
5. Cheap
Cons
1. No gingerbread update yet
Unlike other users I haven't come across any issues such as the BSOD, no freezes or auto shut offs.
I got the O2X last June and immediately update it to LG version 10c, most users have experienced better performance with this update but some have reported that it didnt fix anything.
Pros: cm7

If your here because you like putting custom roms on esp cm7 then the o2x is about the most perfect phone you could have.
If you want it working out of the box, then whatever lg did to this phone, they need shooting.
Me, I love cm and therefore only bought this phone because it was being supported
To have cm7 on a phone with a gorgeous 4inch ips screen, tegra dual core processor, 8mp camera with 1080p video recording, that's not made out of cheap plastic like samsungs phones, like I said about perfect lol

Agree.........
Is the Modaco FR19 a good option instead of CM7?
CM7 is not a option for me since the lack of A2DB.

Yea ofcourse for someone like me who keeps flashin new roms i nvr stick to the stock stuff. For me CM 7 > Stock for me
And i am hoping with the upcoming GB update things may get even better right ?
Pros:
Really cheak compared to the hardware it has (comparing it to an SGS2).
Awesome official Dev support. From Cyanogen, to Paul of Modaco, to MIUI, to Supercutio.
I have not experienced those BSODs. And I'm on a slightly modified stock ROM.
Cons:
None really. I'm sure GB will come. We all need to just wait.
Pros:
- Good Hardware, as others stated, average battery life(im saying average cause most android phones last a day)..
- CM support( that alones gives it a ton of +)
- Good Camera
- Ips Screen
Cons:
- LG
- LG drivers
- LG Updates(no gingerbread till now) :
I'd says it's best to wait until GB update until buying. or for LG to fix BSOD and other issues.
Afterwards it doesn't really matter cause u can rely on devs rom for future updates
and the O2x is constantly getting cheaper, atm it is like $430 delivered on ebay compare to other dual core phones it is quiet good value for money
Somewhat same!!!

I guess seeing the fact that Majority of people think its worth it and only a minority is frustrated over it i think i would take a gamble and buy it off ebay and see whats ma experience with a hope that some day LG will fix its drivers lol
Yeah go for it great phone, and for the people who voted for SUX ! Dont ever buy it . they probably dont even own the phone
Pro :
- have many rom mods,specially cm7
- with good price u'll have android powerhouse
Cons :
- basically none if u use the right rom

if you can get a sgs2 or sensation for the same price, go get one of those, if not, the O2x will be the best option, install cm7 on it and it will be even better

Right! And the thread "Phone shuts off!! Automatically!!" are full of happy owners. If you´re not happy you simply dont own a o2x. Lol.
I voted "sux" because my super cheap ZTE Blade is slower but definitely more reliable than my o2x.
Just wondering about one thing. Does installin CM7 or other custom roms helps somewhat with BSOD or not at all ?
A custom ROM can help. Not more.
Some people have after installed a CROM no problems with bsod. Others can do what they want...nothing helps....

Hey folks, I'm hopping over to a new provider and they're offering me a smartphone, free of charge, and the list boils down to the LG O2X or the Nexus S (the two phones are priced the same according to this provider). I currently have a Galaxy S but it's not compatible with the new provider's bands.
On paper, the LG O2X seems to be the sound winner, but we all know that here at XDA hardware specs aren't everything.
I'd like to ask how the custom firmware selection is like with the LG O2X? Is it as easy to flash as the SGS and the Nexus S? How's the stock LG firmware? What are the ups and downs of the LG O2X?
Thanks
As a O2x owner, i say: GO FOR NEXUS S!!!
honestly, as long as nvidia doesnt release its sources,
go for nexus s.
will save you alot of headache
on paper o2x wins in specs
currently its performance is much better, but on updates and future custom rom development, its tied down because of nvidia

if u can wait for CM9 on O2x, better buy this phone
but if u want the latest and fastest upgrade, go for nexus
Majority here doesn't seem to be speaking too highly of the O2X, which is surprising since its specs are better than the Nexus S'... Would you guys say that the lack of support from nVidia is a deal breaker here? I'm also wondering how the 1080p video recording is like on the O2X since the Nexus S doesn't even record in 720p
I had a Nexus S for about a week before I got my O2X, the O2X is better, but the Nexus S has better stock software.
I wasn't interested in stock, so that made no difference to me.
go for lx o2x
now i`m using 2 phones: o2x and galaxy S
the o2x loads everything faster than the galaxy , even the original android apps (market , contacts )
both phones are running miui and as I said , o2x is better.
If you don't wanna flash anything but stock, go for the Nexus S.
If you are gonna flash a custom rom, O2X is just better in every field.
I actually think O2X is still the best Quality/Price on the market, if you are gonna play with custom roms.
Actually I'm on rooted stock gb 20m. I prefer this over the other roms I have tried. I also think the O2x is the best deal there is.
As a os2x owner I can tell you without a doubt go for it.
The only advantage you get from the Nexus is ICS, which, if you face reality, really isnt enough of a reason to buy worse hardware.
Os2x is nicely supported on CM7 and works great there, the Tegra2 gpu gives you exclusive access to several titles that utilize Nvidia extensions and overall you will have nice lagfree package with it.

Nexus S with no doubt. Even has more memory to use.
I have both.
if you want to use stock ROM, go for Nexus S (it already have official ICS now).
if you want to use custom ROMs, go for O2X. you can learn a lot of things with it.

No. No it does not.
It has the exact same amount to use. Exactly. The Nexus S has 512MB total, with 128MB reserved for the GPU. Identical to the O2X's config.

I guess he ment on internal storage. 8vs.16.
P.s. One off topic question. I thought that "reserved ram for gpu" is only with tegra SoC. Do all SoC reserve from "specified" ram for gpu?
Hey guys, I'm planning to sell my xperia mini pro to buy lg optimus 2x. I think optimus 2x is a perfect phone for me.
It has dual core, nvidia chipset tegra 2 I think which is good for gaming, 8mp, hdmi which is real important for me, big screen 4 inch.
I have no problems on my current phone xperia mini pro, been using it almost a year. Its just that a small screen phone is just not for me. And gaming sometimes can be really lags on it especially newer high end games because it only has single core processor. To overlock it and to install a custom rom and kernel is not easy on the xmp you need to unlock bootloader and that ****. But it is rooted.
I choose lg optimus 2x for my next phone. I used to own lg optimus one before i sell it to buy xmp. I love to install custom roms and kernel it because it is easy unlike sony ericsson you need to unlock bootloader. Is it easy to install a custom kernel and roms just as easy as my old optimus one?
To all 2x users, what you don't like and what is your problem about the phone? Thank you

For me it's a very good phone, but lg's software is not very good, infact i'm using temasek's CM7.. And we not have ICS yet.. Another thing is battery life, if you use it intensively and with 3g connection, you are fortunate if arrive at the end of day
Hope i have helped you.. if yes press the thanks button xD :victory:
I had bought the optimus 2x in end of December2011. ICS was promised by q2 but we hav not yet got it & the most imp is that d drivers r missing.
Hardware wise its a beast but lack of drivers makes optimus behind as per the current market. Wait till we receive an official ICS from LG.
If u r buying a new 2x dont go for it unless u r getting it cheap or wait till we hav official ics..

It's a pretty good phone still. Zippy, and doesn't really lag on cm7.
I would still buy it if I would get it for reasonable price. I bought mine as used in the November 2011. I paid 200€ for it and it was like a new because it had screen changed recently. (Now I've got few small scratches on it. But thankfully you need to look with light to find them. :crying
I'll think that I made a good choise because by that time used SGS2 phones prices started from 350€+ and the O2X isn't really that different. Only not so good thing is Nvidia... But the 2D HW acceleration and non functional video recording isn't that dramatical. But always remember that we will get the ICS sooner or later and our devs will cook JB for us after that
BTW: One month ago we got the O2X at sale for 150€ at our local carriers shop. And that price was without simlock and plan.
Currently I can't find other phone with that good price/HW ratio. The most comparable phone in the category as new is the HUAWEI U8860 but even that costs 250€
It isn't still worth to buy in middle 2012, it is worth to buy for the first time since this phone came out.
There are many good ROMs and kernels available now and ICS will be there in a matter of days or weeks.
So yes, buy it
No, don't buy it. You'd buy a pig in a poke, not knowing whether and when LG will realease ICS. Better invest in a Nexus or some good device of the Samsung Galaxy series (S2 or S3).
(I would only buy it for less than 100€)

Whether? LG has already officially confirmed that we get ICS in the nex time.
Additionally today they uploaded the first v30 ROM on their servers which will 99,9% be official ICS. For the korean version at least.

No.
I got mine for a cheap price and Im VERY happy with it. Im currently using CM7.2 stable and the performance and battery are great. I find the 2X very pretty and it has a good camera too, plus it has FM radio wich I use a lot
I also have an Atrix 4G. IT has more ram (1GB) but in general I find the 2X runs smoth and faster
ICS is really taking a long time to get released but Im sure were getting it in the next month
If you find one for a good price I say go for it
Just dont buy it! i dont like this phone at all.. buggy and laggy.. i bought O2x this year and used it like 3 month and came back to my htc desire which is much better..

But the available ROMs meanwhile are awesome - even if ICS still would need months, there would be smooth and snappy Gingerbread ROMs - if one buys the phone NOW he'd already start with good ROMs, so why shouldn't he?
No, just no. Besides the obvious software problems, LG also cut a lot of corners in hardware. Yes, the IPS screen still looks good today, but 512MB RAM is just unforgivable. I also suspect LG used low grade flash memory which exacerbated the lagginess.
It depends on what price you're getting it for.
And if you're doing a lot of 3G network, then i'd suggest no cause there's a risk that the radio gets cranky.

The internal flash memory of O2X is of high quality. It is better than class 10 SD 2.0 - you can test this with any performance benchmark.
It was the world's first dual-core phone, the 512 MB Ram at the time of release really weren't that bad. And they still are enough for ICS, just try CM9. Useless LG apps will be removed anyway from custom stock ROMs and custom kernels will get Ramhack and virtual Ram enhancements so effectively useable RAM is far higher.
Maybe get a Galaxy s2?
I bought it 3 months ago at the price of 150 EUR. Currently I run CM9 Kang V30. Very smooth, play asphalt 6, reptide, golf 3, gun shadow ... with ease, I think ICS (at least CM9) even much faster than stock 2.3.4 v20, and definitely more beautiful. Only I can not play or record video which I dont quite need. So all in all very good price vs performance. Never regret since.

For video playback - mx player with its codec. For recording - video cam illusion. I tested it on Paranoid Android ROM and it recorded smooth video with 640 resolution. So all in all Paranoid android at least has it all working. I came back to my MIUI based 2.3.7 rom though. Just addicted to its eyecandy.
As for is it worth it I'd say yes. But. Only if you find it in good condition and for around $200 or less.

Unbrickable doesn't mean it's impossible to brick the phone, it just means it's impossible to permanently brick it. Meaning that if you screw up a flash and the phone doesn't boot, it's very easy to restore it to working condition.

O2X has more raw power and a better camera, no doubt about that, but the S1 has better stability from official CM10/10.1 nightlies due to better drivers. There's only so much our best devs can do for the O2X when a lot of things from Nvidia are closed source.
the display is much better on O2X, every game runs on it well, the battery is alright.
oh and it looks better than both samsung's
Next buy would be the LG optimus G.
No samsung for me,because you have to buy a new battery after 6 months.....
Advantages of O2X:
Better display ( i think that amoled displays show a bit strange colors)
Better Processor - yes Nvidia is closed source but the GPU in Tegra2 is better even compared with Samsung GS2 and if you want gaming console O2X is a better choice obviously
Better look - i dont like plastic samsungs
Advantages of samsung S1 and Ace 2
Better source - better ROMs for them
Ace 2 has more RAM
And that's it i cant think of more.
Battery life in O2X is bad .. but with good ROM you can use it for a day or two
my opion i have the lg o2x and my friend has a galaxy s1 and yeah galaxy s1 is cool but slow and even with a rom, i instaled a gaming rom, very clean it runs okay, but you instal 5apps its slower and slower, battery is okay, but yeah 1core vs 2cores
the o2x had 8mp dualcore, i had like 10+ games on its was on cm7 runed great, no lags like the s1, battery on 2g i had 1day, but i texte hole day and texting eats batery, but internet on wifi great, 3g eat battery but is acptable. so good phone and it is cheap
but if you text a lot the s1 is good with black sms back ground you can text hole day, and on 3g is does alright with good rom, but yeah if you want apps dont take the s1, it not so fast
then the ace 2, 3.8"' screen and 800mhz dualcore, i guess battery is also good like the most sammy phones, but yeah you get 5mp like the s1
and littler screen.
just say what you want to do with phone.
games and lots of apps O2X and internet browsing is so smooth. sms the S1 internet is okay but slow, due the 1ghz singlz core.
ace 2 dont know is okay but cant beat the o2x
i would like to buy an optimus 4x or htc one x, i dont which is better, but the o4x is cheaper

go for one X
realy good xda suport, my onlce has it, its great, battery also great, for the little battery, o4x is not bad but xda suport not much, and from LG also not for drivers, but the then other side o4x has SD and removable battery.
if you dont need that go for one x 32 gb, its good and has a nice desin^^
ow and even ONE X is faster, they may have the same tegra 3, htc did a better jobs with perfomance, LG is slower.
but if you go for one X, install a custom rom, HTC sense is heavy and eats all the ram, my oncle has it with a AOSP rom and the phone is o much faster^^
but then still like always depends what you wanna do with phone
btw i see you have lg o2x, if you know the hell we had with for drivers, with the o4x, its not that wel also.
HTC is realy good.

yes..

you want awnser, okay simple amoled has colorfull colors but no real white, its more green.
LCD of o2x has great white but yeah its lcd so colors are not the colorfull as amoled, amoled yeah black black, and lcd is juste black.
realy the difference aint that much, when you play angry birtds on s1 the colors will be very bright and shiny like little children toys/games
LCD of o2x is just more real. i have now a lg l9 and i can see the differnce the o2x has a very good LCD
even if my L9 has IPS lcd, the o2x is still much more whiter.
so yeah its just taste. when you have phone you wont see difences. only when you compare.
i only like amoled for its black (is texting app with black background its saves battery)
has no + or -
your choose its the phone that mathers

i have LG optimus P920 3D
i want to buy LG 4X P880

can it run heavy games ??? because with antutu benchmark v.2.9.2 gpu scores 1500 and my phone scores 1400 with the same version of antutu
(screenshots in the attachments)
so ULP geforce = powerVR SGX540 ??? or faster???
does it lag or freeze if i run many things like playing a heavy game while running music??
i saw a post here someone complain of low RAM ?? is that true??
so please people kindly post your opinions about that phone ( good things ,bad things or any opinion)
is that a good choice or you recommend me another phone??

Im not heavy gamer, but
From my experience this phone has bad performance on heavy tasks - because CPU can become VERY hot and on stock rom and kernel there is ridiculous cpu temperature threshold.
Of course you can install some custom roms and kernels - which makes things little bit better.
Sry, but every people that say 1 GB of Ram is small is a idiot.
I have the phone with CM 10.1 and currently Kholk kernel.
Its very smooth, battery saved and the tunned screen colors kills me <3
I have played NOVA 3 and on this kernel its hasnt got lag.
When you buy this phone. (And would like have warranty and a smooth phone then)
1.Root it
2.Delete all Bloatware
When you like flash a stock ROM like (Zaiben)
When for you warranty its not important then.
1.Unlock the Bootloader
2. root it
3.Flash CWM
4. Flash CM 10.1
5. flash a custom kernel the you like.
And you will have a super smooth phone ( Thousand times better than S3)
LG 4X HD - Better than a Smartphone
Buy it, its a great phone for the money, handles all games and that kind of **** good. Personally i stay with stock lg firmware, like it more than cm.

can it run heavy games ??? because with antutu benchmark v.2.9.2 gpu scores 1500 and my phone scores 1400 with the same version of antutu

does it lag or freeze if i run many things like playing a heavy game while running music??
i saw a post here someone complain of low RAM ?? is that true??
so please people kindly post your opinions about that phone ( good things ,bad things or any opinion)

For what i think , its a really good phone rated at a affordable price. You get all the extras a top android phone needs + expendable storage and removable battery ,which Nexus 4 doesnt have. I upgraded from an EVO 3D and i dont regret it. Its a good choice ,buy it.
thank you all for your opinions
i actually like LG nexus 4....adreno 320 gpu....2 gb ram ....latest "up to date" android version.... IPS+ screen
the only thing i hate most about Nexus 4 is the back.home and menu buttons within the screen which make the screen smaller than 4.7 AND the non-removable battery because i am a heavy mobile gamer i like to have a spare battery i don't care about card slot i don't need more than 16 gb storage
BUT 4X HD has wider screen and removable battery .... and the Tegra3 effects in games are really amazing
Antutu benchmark : LG Nexus 4.... 18096
LG 4X HD .....14297
i am really confused

I am too deciding between nexus 4 and 4x hd.
In my country I can find 4x hd for 240 eur. Nexus 4 16gb is 320eur so I don't know does nexus 4 really worth 80 eur more.
The benchmark are not really representative! And many people get more than 15000 with Antutu
The N4 has last Google updates but now that we have the official CyanogenMod support we'll have Android 4.3 and also probably 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
We do not have as many roms and kernel as the N4 but we have the better one and great kernels. and you won't get lost with hundreds roms in the O4X forums
I'm using Jellybeer + Iodak v006 and my phone is absolutely smooth, I can play all games I want without any lags and i do not have that persistant navbar under the screen.
Also I think that the O4X is much more beautiful than the N4 but that's a personal opinion.

Oh and just a thing I forgot, the O4X has the best screen I ever seen. One of my friend has got the Xperia Z and he admitted that my screen was better.
Watching films and playing beautiful games is amazing on this phone

If you live in any of the 8 countries where there is google play store, then the nexus 4 would be pretty cheap, but for its lack of a microSD card and no removable battery, expect a maximum life of 2 years because of the battery. Not having a microSD also has the problem of that you cant store any data, dunno if it is possible post android 4.0 to port apps to the sdcard(Damn you google).
My advice, wait for the S4 to lose in price or wait for the optimus G2. Lg products have a tendency to lose value pretty fast if you are willing to wait for more than 6 months.
If not, and money is the issue, get this phone. I dont know about gaming, but the screen is good and you can root it to remove bloatware.
Get an S3 if you want an AMOLED screen.
I'd recommend it to anyone who asks on xda-developers. The phone is great, but the LG stock software could have issues with battery draining, laggy (maybe more maybe less).
You are asking on xda-developers, so you are likely open to tweak your phone (ROM/Kernel) and most of the issues have been corrected by the community.
So yes, i'd buy it again. Display, Design, Speed are the main pros, battery is also ok - 3 hours screen on time should be obtainable so it's 1d normal use.
thank you all for your answers
i think i am gonna buy LG Nexus 4
but i will wait to collect more money so i am gonna wait some time and work much to get Nexus 4 ASAP
Thank You Guys
Always happy if we (I think I'm going to say something that everybody think) can help

what about Samsung Galaxy S 3
LG Nexus 4 better or Galaxy S 3 ???
both the same money in my country
S3 all the way... the quality of Sammy support is beyond perfect. Im sure you wont regret buying it, it will also become clear for you from taking a look at the approperiate forums here or elsewhere to see how the dev community are treating it too.. Absolutely not like the 4X HD - has much smaller amount of devs which are developing software/mods for it.

I have the GS3, before it I had the 4XHD and I can say that GS3 is better, a thousand times better (camera, performance, design, battery, a lot of ROMS for it....)

Sudden death, oh my troubles were far away when it was yesterday.
Suuudden death oh suudden death.
How far can somebody go and exaggerate that the S3 is 1000 better. If it was 1000 times better, it would not have a restarting bug, SDS, non-Standard MHL port and pentile OLED.
Its a "Should I buy it " thread, not "OMG this is the best thing since sliced bread thread"

Go ask that in the General Discussion, not in the LG 4X subforum. The last thing I want to read about is somebody writing about the Nexus or the S3 in a LG sub forum.
I hate these Nexus-Samsung fanboys more than apple fanboys.
