I sent my phone off for repair to three UK. My old phone had a few issues but one of them was with the camera. The focus was off. Mostly it was blurry at any distance further than about 6ft and it also wouldn't focus properly on the left hand side of the picture.
Anyway, they sent me a replacement phone (more than likely a refurb) after deciding they couldn't repair my old one but this one also seems have a problem.
Am I going crazy or is the focus off on the left side of these pictures?

Is it anything I could be doing that's causing this issue?
Surely the chances of me having 2 phones with almost the exactly same issue is extremely low??
It's completely stock at the mo (1.28fw) but I had the 2.17fw on my old phone with ARHD 11.0 and it didn't make any difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone?
I'm not going crazy though am I? There is definitely an issue?
what happens when you manually tap to focus on the left side?
I thought tapping on the screen just altered the exposure and the camera auto focused?
Either way, the same thing happens.
no it does focus + metering
if its blurry no matter what type of shots you take. then it must be faulty
Damn. Back to three then. Thanks.
It's ,,common, on the silver version... I I had the same problem everything was blurry but on the right side of the picture.. I've got a replacement now it's good no problem with it ... Some pictures from my old phone faulty one

My HTC One camera is horrible but I think I have nailed down the problem.
The left side is always perfectly sharp. From center to the right side it is out of focus mush.
I am guessing that it's a misaligned sensor.
I am a widely published photographer and I certainly didn't buy this to use as a camera for anything other than record pictures for my normal job but I do know what I am doing.
I ill take it in and test it against a store phone and have them swap it out if the store one is better.
If I had the sharpness across the frame that I have on the left side I would be thrilled with it.
Anyone else seeing the right side of frame quality issue?
I am having no issues with my camera, I love it, the ZOE option is very versatile. No sharpness issues at all, in fact the auto focus works much better then my lte

I am not seeing this issue. This definitely sounds like a hardware problem. I think HTC has been plagued by quality issues, unfortunately.

The thing is that it did this to me but i am trying to reproduce it and i can't!
How am i supposed to get a replacement?
Did it do it for you al the time and under any conditions?
Well with mine it was every single picture, and tapping to try to get it to focus somewhere on the blurry side didn't make a difference.

Hello,
Sorry for that. I've put asterisks indeed.
Anyway apologizes to all.
I would like to repost my question without any swearing.
I am experiencing an unfocusing camera problem on the right side. Is this the same issue you are talking about?

Hi,
I have noticed that i have few dead or stuck pixels on my htc one camera. There are few pink or purple pixels that are shown on my screen while i use camera and they are on photos too so i am thinking that there is problem with camera senzor. Is there anyone else who is having this problem, and would HTC accept my claim and give me new headset.
Here are the pictures that are showing my problem.

Definitely a hardware problem. Set your device back to stock (unroot, S-on,..) and send it back to HTC!
interestingly, I was posting about a similar issue yesterday. However, in my case it's a bright pixel, I think, that only shows on camera app. Just make sure your bad pixels really show in pictures as at first I thought that that was my case too, until I discovered that, camera turned off, the bright pixel slowly fades away..

try to zoom in to see if pixel moving, if do means is a defective camera
The pixels are moving so it's definitely a hardware problem but i want to know would HTC repair my phone or give me a new one because i don't want unibody phone that has been opened.

Hi
I'm having problems with the camera.
I bought a Moto x three weeks ago and noticed that sometimes (often), when taking pictures, somo red and blue stripes appear while and after taking the photo. Those stripes appear and desapear. The only way of getting rid of them is to focus the camera for a long time (like 5 or more seconds) and even if they desapear, sometimes they come back
I thouht my phone was damaged so I claimed my warranty and they gave me a new one last thursday but the new one has the same problem.
Is anyone experiencing this problem too?
I'm not sure if it's a general problem or if I should go back and claim the warranty again .
Here is an example of a photo taken on my room with the lights on to a white paper.
I forgot to say that sometimes the stripes are not red and blue. Instead they are gray like in the picture I attached.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Yes. It happens for me when I have a fluorescent light in the room. I tested this on demos at the store and same thing.
So I assume this is a general problem. That makes me feel realy upset with the phone.
I hope some update fix this.
Love the camera on this phone! Am I the only one?
I saw this at the Verizon store on two different Moto X's. I have also seen this on my Nexus 4, but only under some settings in FV5 (never with stock camera app). Guessing it is a software issue but it is definitely a little disconcerting.
For those experiencing the issue, make sure your a squeaky wheel about it to Motorola if you want to see it fixed.

Love may be a strong word here. I think the X can take some really good pics, in the right lighting. But if you are in a low light situation, pics are garbage...lots of noise. The camera is the ONLY reason I miss my Samsung devices, they took really good pics.

this seems like a banding issue to me, which i'm surprised the camera app doesn't include a setting to eliminate. try a different camera app, like camerazoom fx to see if you can correct the problem with software. if it doesnt go away, it may be worth replacing.
I take a lot of pics indoors and they are terrible. No complains about photos taken outside.
I would not care using another app if I could keep the twist to activate thing : /

Anyone else have issues with the camera's ability to focus? I'm not talking about some of the other issues regarding low light performance, or color casts, just straight up is the picture in focus. Since getting the phone a couple months ago I hadn't taken many pics at all and they were always under low light and of stuff I just wanted to remember vs taking a picture to look at so I didn't pay any attention to the quality as most were deleted soon after.
This past weekend I was outside and noticed I could not get an in focus picture no matter what. Daytime outdoor lighting was plenty good to get a high enough shutter speed to avoid blur and I don't have shaky hands. I took a few pics to compare it with a Samsung Galaxy S2 (wife's phone). All pics were taken around the same time, the lens was definately clean and I used the same app on both phones for two of the pics. I took an extra with the stock camera app on the moto x as well. If you check out the set you can easily see the blurring on the windows on the houses across the street. And the close garden fence you can't even see the chicken wire which is totally sharp in the GS2 pic.
Pics are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157641535964283
It looks like I may have a hardware issue. Before I try to send it back anything else to try? Its running 4.4.2 now after starting with 4.2.2, OTA almost right out of the box to 4.4 and recently to 4.4.2. Its the XT1053, GSM Dev Edition. I'm definitely out of the return period since it was bought end of November (at full price too) so it would have to be a warranty repair I'm guessing. Is it possible to get a replacement sent in advance or is the only option to send it in, wait, and be without my phone for probably 2+ weeks?

I can confirm that the focus on the camera is not up to par. Did you use the manual focus setting? Also how steady are your hands?
I get blurry pictures too, I suspect that there was a trade off in the camera. really good resolution/sensor but no digital or optical stabilization feature what so ever. My prediction is based on the fact that those blurry pictures you posted look like the ones on my galaxy S 2 when the stabilization feature is off.
Also any little shakes give my moto x camera some blur which is why I suspect the stabilization is not present or is poorly functioning.
Please if anyone else is having this issue, you don't have to explain but post that you have the issue, android version, model number and if your camera software is up to date! Maybe Motorola will take notice of this thread and offer a really good camera fix in the next update!
p.s. the shutter speed is pretty slow too... comparable to my old galaxy s2 skyrocket
OS: 4.4.2
Model: XT 1053 (T-mobile - Unlocked version) same as developer edition so give us the same warranty Motorola!!
My camera sucks too, I hate the autofocus of the moto x.
But besides that i love everything else.

My hands were not shaking for any of the shots and I did use manual focus.
I added 2 more shots today.
One is a building by my work. The lighting was quite bright and thus the shutter speed was over 1/4000 a second. At that level the effect of minor shaking would be greatly diminished. I can usually hold a camera steady enough to avoid blur down to about 1/40 a second if I am careful so I know its not me.
By comparision I took another shot tonight, inside with much lower light conditions. Its a battery in my hand taken while I hold the phone with the other hand. Shutter speed 1/60 a second and the shot is clear. This shows I can indeed hold it steady enough so hand shake isn't a factor. It also shows that my camera is good with macro shots. but not much else.
I looked around for the reviews I used before purchase and have this one: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7235/moto-x-review/10
The shots shown there from the MotoX show it is capable of focusing fine, at distance, compared with other phones. It may have other issues with odd colors and patterns, but the focus is solid enough.
Based on the review shots and the shots I've posted I do not think the Moto X is simply incapable of focusing as clearly it was able to focus for the review. It looks like my phone may have a defective camera module or somehow be stuck in some kind of macro mode.
Anyone know if I can get an advance replacement or something vs just sending it back and waiting?
In case anyone wonders what happened when I finally did try to get help from Moto the experience is not pleasant. I did wait a bit(still well within warranty and I don't want to be without my phone). I called them on 4/5. 2 calls later, one email though their website and a live chat tonight and I still have not gotten the promised email with return instructions and shipping label.
So, at least if you have a Dev Edition it seems Moto may be unable or unwilling to help you in any reasonable time.
I'll update this when the saga concludes. One initially happy customer getting decidedly less happy.

Sorry for the thread necro, but what happened? Did you get your original phone back, or a replacement?
I have the same problem currently with a Droid Mini, the camera was working fine but one day I noticed the auto-focus was unresponsive. Tried the software solutions but it's no good... No warranty, so I've ordered a replacement camera module and hopefully that will resolve it (bad pun).
When taking photos from main rear camera the edges get blurred and, camera cannot focus on edges manually as well.
Started happening since a few days. Same on different camera apps.
I'm miui 13.0.9 if that helps
Hi There
Same Thing Is Happening To Me.
A Few Weeks A Go i Noticed that main Lens is having issues when I'm trying to get photos! It was like blurry, the lens was making a Ticking/Rattling Noise!

While the camera app is running, hit the side of the phone against the palm of your hand. Does it focus after hitting it?

Yes that worked and made it focus, but each time I close the camera app and open it again it goes back to the same issue.
Do i have to hit it everytime now?
Attached below one after hitting it
and another after I close app and reopen
Annoyingly, yes. I had to live with the issue for about 6 months. Until one day, I got fed up and hit the phone so hard, it fixed itself. I have not seen the problem since that fateful day. I have been using the phone for a year and a half now.
