Hey I was just wondering if anyone had any mods/methods to use the micro hdmi port to display something WITHOUT leaving the actual phone screen on.
This wouldn't exactly be mirroring, I'm just wondering for purposes of playing movies on my phone on an HDTV or playing games on a larger display without eating my battery quickly due to a wasted display screen.
If this has already been discussed in another forum some guidance would be appreciated and I'll delete this post to avoid redundancy.
Thanks!

There's an app in the apps and games threads that does exactly this. I'm sorry I can't think of the name. Its a root only app, if that helps
Here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nkahoang.screenstandby
Thank you! Downloading it now (I rooted my phone earlier today)
The app is called
"screen standby # root" for those reading the thread looking for the app and is available on the play store for free

I've seen hdmifull and hdmwin out there, but my questions are one, is playback upscaled, and two, which app really works best. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I haven't connected via hdmi but from what I understand no app is needed, it's a full mirror. I would imagine it also upscales accordingly.

Thst is correct you get the full image on your tv and xoom at the same time with no app needed just plug in to your hdtv and your set
Yeah, piece of cake. I've had no issues including playing Super Mario Bros 3 on my 65" DLP
There is a slight overscan but doesn't really affect it. And it is still displayed on the Xoom at the same time.
Nice! Thanks guys!

720p. I don't know if apps have the ability to increase that though
This would mean that there is no real benefit to having 1080p videos playing from it because even if you have a 1080p T.V. the Xoom is only outputting 720p. I was going to share some of my converted movies at a friends house from my Xoom and this means I can just do a batch conversion to 720p instead and save space which is great.
Does the xoom screen have to stay on while outputting hdmi? I'd like to save some battery and also not have it shining away while watching a movie in a dark room etc. What happens if you hit lock while it's outputting?

yes I am hoping for an update or an app in the near future that will allow this. Sometimes I don't want it playing on both (especially if its a movie).
Also another benefit would be great if we could have 2 different screens going on (it is dual core afterall) in games. This would allow us to have controls on the xoom's screen, and have the actual screen play image on the tv. Just a thought....
is root needed to do this, or will it just work on a stock XOOM wifi?
thanks

It works on stock. That's what the hdmi port on the bottom is for.
Has anyone had an issue with the connection at the xoom being loose or do I just have a junk cable? If I move it the wrong way playing a game, I lose the picture. Pretty crummy. :'(

I haven't had that issue. I have the OEM cable from Moto though (bought it when it came out for the Droid X).
I need to get me one of those! That would be awesome to carry around...

I have the same issue, I doubt we both have a bad cable. Seems odd to me that it would do this. Will be interesting to see if this is common or if we are just an isolated few.

Same here mine does the same thing. I have both a cheap Ebay cable, and the one that came with my DX. They both do the same thing. IMO all the connections on mine are loose but the only one that will stop working is HDMI. I'm wondering if more people have the issue, or if I should return mine
I've been playing with my Nexus 7 for about 5 days now and this just started happening. I thought I had too many tasks running so I closed everything, still happening. I rebooted and started playing again but it continued to stutter every 3-4 seconds. Any thoughts or is this happening to anyone else?
Not seeing that myself... just played it for a bit to make sure. To describe it as Butter would be appropriate. It is a much better experience than on my Galaxy Nexus, and that says a lot for what was a significant improvement over my Nexus S.

I had installed the app Ultimate Rotation Control which was causing the stuttering. I uninstalled it and it fixed the problem.

I have also experienced this. Stuttering on Dead Trigger. Ultimate Rotation Control removed, problem solved. Just glad I had the trial to decide and didn't pay for it.
I paid the license for Ultimate Rotation Control, was about to uninstall to avoid stutter but...
in the app, you can also edit the settings for each app.
So in order for games not to stutter, you can turn off this app.
Applied settings so this app wouldn't affect Riptide for example, result: no stutter
But still I got the rotation on the homescreens, landscape automatic etc.
So small piece of advice, play around with the settings for each game, homescreens, apps etc to avoid stutter.
It's really not a bad app after all
edit: just switched off (you see a screen with a red cross through in the settings of the app) Ultimate Rotation for all my games, youtube, videoplayers etc.. to avoid the stutter.
When opened in the app (if you switched off Ultimate Rotation for that specific app) you see the icon in your notification bar change to a small screen with cross so you know it's switched off.
Happy camper now no stutter in games, videos, youtube

This is good to hear, may have to give it another try. I can't say I noticed these features in the trial, do they only become available once youv'e purchased the pay for version?

I don't remember tbh.. the settings per app is the last line of functionality in the app itself when opened from the app drawer.
Just downloaded the trial again. I don't know how I managed to miss this first time around. Will give it a while and probably buy the lisence.

Hey,
Since this is off-topic I guess I can ask this question here.
I bought a Pokémon Gold cardridge for my Gameboy Advance yesterday and now I have a problem with the save files: every time I take out the cardrigde, the save file is deleted. I use my Gameboy only for this game right now, so not being able to take it out won't be a problem, but I'd still like to know the cause. As the game does save normally, I don't think the internal battery has died.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That sounds like a dead battery to me - when you remove the cartridge the SRAM is no longer powered - so while you were able to save while it was powered, the battery is not keeping it powered once it's removed. I would test it and make a save game file, leave it in the GBA and leave it overnight and see what happens.
Pokemon Gold is getting old enough that there's a very good chance the original battery isn't doing so hot any more. I believe that generation of Pokemon especially had battery issues due to the real-time clock.
This is not directly helpful and you may have considered it already, but have you thought about using an emulator to play the game on your phone ?
I did this recently on my S3 and the controls translate well to touch-screen use. The ROMs are very small, too ! The GBC ones are only ~2Mb and GBA are usually 5-10Mb. Transferring my games to my phone was just another way to consolidate and make life simpler / more fun / easier.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have thought about playing using emulators, but playing it on a Gameboy gives it a way more authentic feeling. I guess I'll have to take it back to the store then .

U think so? Cuz i bought newly and the model was old the first gameboy advance without backlight I know i was dumb that time my mom bought it for me as a gift and it used to work great but after a year the problems started occurring. Thought at first it would be feature not supported for this model. Thanks anyway its been 5 years since i bought it so i dont care!

If all games acted weird I think it is your gameboy, yes, because I think it is really strange if all games won't save anymore and the problem is not with the Gameboy itself. And even if you have one of the oldest Gameboys, all functions of the game should work properly.

Hi
Sorry if this has been asked before.
I was wondering if there's a way, when connecting the KFHD to the TV thorough HDMI interface, to turn off the screen just for the sake of the battery save.
By the way, I'm using MX player.
Thanks in advance.

Ok so maybe I missed something somewhere but I've searched and found nothing on this. I went to a program for my son's school today and did a bit of recording. Well I set it to 4k because the clips were all going to be roughly 1 minute so I thought why not get the best quality.
Here's the problem. When I try to play any of the clips it gives me an error that says "Sorry, the video cannot be played". Has anyone had this issue? All 4 clips were that way and when I recorded them I waited for it the complete the processing and all before making another.

Often(almost always) when this happens it's because the file was truncated. This means that you were writing the files to your external SD card and the card isn't fast enough to save the file and it caused corruption. The only solution for this is buying a faster micro SD that is fast enough to keep up with the bandwidth for the 4k. Another thing, 4k on the phone isn't good if there is a lot of fast movement. So in movement scenarios use 1080p. Around the house talking/average movement is ok in 4k.
You are correct, If it can't play a file it creates then what's the point? Well, It does. The only reason it wont play them is if they're truncated(which they are) and nothing is going to play them. If you do manage to find a player that ignores time code or errors it will show that they are flawed incomplete files.
I'm sorry this happened on something like your kids as a subject matter, the phone COULD do a bandwidth test to let you know your card isn't fast enough for 4k but instead it just makes truncated files attempting to save for you.
You need something like this from Amazon(at least class 10)http://goo.gl/bpjEcj
