Hello,
This is al little poll
Many people are a little bit dissapointed of this phone.
The hardware is very good, but the service from Lg is the main factor why people are dissapointed.
I want to know what your opinion about this device is
What is your opinion about this phone so far?
(look above the post for the poll)
this isnt the best phone ive seen so far, it isnt even the best looking one so far, buuuuut... if we consider that at the date of creation of this phone it was the first dual core ever, with great graphics power and productivity to match, nowadays brands still make new phones that are very simmilar to the o2x if not equal, so id say time passes, things change, but at the time it was being sold, it was quite simply the best phone ever. oh, and at least lg doesnt make phones that look like cheap toys... *cough samsung *cough*

ohhh i forgot, if you guys wanna blame any1, blame nvidia, coz none, i repeat NONE of the phones out there with the same tegra 2 series as our p990 have oficial ics yet, that would include samsung, motorola and maybe others
Poor battery
bad camera quality
Bad support for Android updates
Laggy and crappy software installed by LG (currently latest Miui very very smoothhhhh)
The rest it is a good peace of hardware.
Format ok
Touchscreen ok
Material used for outside ok

You are right
The hardware is fantastic for a phone made about 2 years ago.
But nividia is the main problem.
If they aren't updating the drivers, a custom rom of cm10 will never work as it supposed to be

I add Low RAM, and, something that bothers me a lot, is that the screen is asymmetrical, the lower space (between the display and bezel) is huge while the top space is short. I also don't like the protuberant back (very low quality) camera.
On the other hand, the display density is very good, but the IPS does not seem to be very good quality, since viewing angles aren't that good.

Okay so that is my opinion on the LG Optimus 2x or in Germany called "Speed".
I brought the device in the beginning of December 2011, I compared it to my exgirlfriends Samsung Galaxy S2 and similar devices hard and often.
I took it for alot of reasons:
First of all the LG Optimus 2x was way more handy/ergonomical compared to the SGS2, its not too thin, not too wide. It is a bit more like the iPhone. 4' inch is really the most ergonomical size in my opinion.
Second, the device hardware is still a very good competitor to the SGS2, the SGS2 does have HDSPA+ (which isn't even near to be an standard in german cities) and 1GiB of RAM, the Optimus does have "just" 512MiB and HDSPA but therefor the powerful Tegra 2. So paying +100€ more for the SGS2 was just a joke. Also the LG Optimus 2x feels simply better and looks better especially in white, like mine.
Third from the beginning, I didn't cared about the software, cuz its the same with a pre-installed Windows on a Netbook, there is just crap on the device and it's slow, so you are FORCED to clean up, root and install something like Modaco. Same goes for the SGS2.
ICS in general made some trouble on both SGS2 and 3 on the beginning, also that Gingerbread is a very stable software and is in general a very good piece brings me to the question why I should upgrade anyways? I know because it can give us better performance and it looks better, but the device just works, I can write SMS and make calls and battery life is also good. The battery always reaches 24hours easy. Even 48 hours are possible if you are busy with other things than playing around on the device but writing messages both WhatsApp with GPRS or SMS/Phone calls.
For me the LG Optmius 2x is handy, well priced and the software is doing what it should. I had the stock Froyo and Gingerbread each a month from December to February and I only upgraded to a customsoftware because I was bored. Games worked well and I never had problems with the device. I just cleaned up the stock software, thats it! The 512MiB RAM don't bottleneck the device IF you manage and close stuff on your own. YOU DON'T NEED 1GIB OF RAM. It just makes the user lazy to manage the software maybe spying him cuz he installed so many crap like facebook.
In the end I can say, its a good phone. For me it will be in service until 2014 or rather the end of 2014 with or without ICS. Nor the Optimus4x or the SGS3 or the HTC whatever they call it. Will give you more. You still just can write SMS, accept phone calls and use WhatsApp. Just faster? Or because you guys really need to show of you penis lenght? Be effecient and think about it. ^^
At least it rather depends on the user.

Same here!!
For me the battery had normal duration like other smartphone.
camera isn't too bad and we have an excellent community support :highfive:
I am very satisfied with my P990
Crap GB ROM!!!
Sent from my thoughts using telepathy :banghead:
I agree with N3mesis. Actually GB STOCK and CM7 is quite stable on this phone and battery lasts around 20 hours with moderate usage. In fact presently none of the highend phones gives much over the O2X excepting quad cores and higher RAM. Infact 512 RAM has never posed any problem for me and i have always 50 to 100 mb RAM free depending on roms and softwares used. I dont think quad cores and huge RAMs are required for phones for daily use including a bit of gaming like temple run etc. And regarding ICS it is just my over expectation of getting it as promised by LG makes me feel bad when they are not delivering it.
Only thing is LG knows how to kill their FIRST IN THE WORLD FLAGSHIP phone and destroy fans and customer base.
You guys basically sum up my situation. When I was shopping for a smartphone (coming off a Huawei X3) I looked at the GS2 and the Motorola 4G but this was cheaper, had similar specifications, and felt better in my hand. I also liked the little HDMI port.
I updated to stock GB when I got it, rooted with NVFlash, and used Titanium Backup to remove some of the preinstalled software. Apart from an unfortunate fall which chipped up the plastic trim (didn't chip the glass though) it's been sweet.
Production battery life isn't great but I picked up a couple of 3500mAh batteries on eBay for $16. They'll last a day or more with moderate use and I charge every night anyway.
Of course the problem now is, thanks to the clever people on here, upgrading to another phone becomes increasingly pointless. I'm still on the stock ROM but have a modified kernel that is advertised as making it faster and smoother, and it certainly seems like it does. The battery does seem to drain faster when I'm reading on FBReader, but that could be my imagination. Otherwise it's very good.
Sure, the Galaxy S3 is a better phone, but is it $700 better? For what I use it for, this is more than adequate.

The xda forums are what keep this phone alive to this day.
Its a good device but I've seen better ones, however not at this price.
The real problem with it, no matter how you see it is lg and their way of treating the device.
This one could profit a lot from a jelly bean update.
Until then however I will stay on WajkIUI ROM and be happy.

I think this is a great device... Very capable camera, nice screen, good battery, and feels great in the hand. Only downside is the support we aren't receiving from nVidia. 512MB of RAM is more than enough.... and why do viewing angles... Do you expect yourself to be lying down on your bed and having your phone laying face up on your night stand watching a movie?

I got this phone second hand about 2 months ago as my first Android phone. I must say that the open source Android world is really vast and awesome. This phone is by far the best phone I've ever owned.
The stuff I like:
+ good screen
+ nice design & build quality (though the bottom part is a bit long imo)
+ fast processor
+ Android of course, and really good devs
+ being "unbrickable" (I've bricked my sis's Galaxy 5 before :/...)
+ value for money
Stuff I don't quite like:
- poor support from LG/nVidia
- battery life, especially on 3G data
- feels heavy compared to other phones
- seems to lack RAM at times (I have lots of stuff installed/running). 1GB would've been nice. - camera could've been slightly better

This phone has the nest hardware best look and with cm7 it's almost best in software (waiting for cm10 after the official drivers we get)...fir me this is awesome phone in almost every sense...
To all the people that say that the camera is bad, i compared it to my sister's GS2 and it isn't that awfull as you say it is, it is a camera phone! Are you really expecting DSLR quality from a phone? (Just a little side note, some of the people that say that their phone camera sucks just doesn't know how to handle the camera, try to explore the camera settings for a bit to see if you can take better pics.)

performance wise it is, comparing SIII and hardware tests i tried with a stock mobile.
do not compare whatever hack a wanna be kernel hacker can get out of something for x number of minutes.
o4x got performance, sdhc card, battery replacement support , colour accurancy.
most powerful does not in my mind include an unlocked mobile, if you look at raw facts but for the rest it is still one step behind oneX, but thats xda style

bootloader and kernel tweaks is one of the reasons but even hardware wise, s3 can, even though by a small margin, outperform 4x hd and one x.

our device lags too..
in a test, if both devices had a fully optimized kernel
and a similar rom, say cm10,
i'm sure s3 would out perform o4x
in terms of benchmark, and most probably in terms of standard usage

did not take me long to get a benchmark of the old firmware on oneX very close up to S3 here
if we continue with stock performance, we have already seen 12000+ on o4x, which compared to this beats s3 in a benchmark test.
S3 is close to ours but still design, quality of o4x and its better colours (not worse btb using fake black turnoff led solution).
i would say you didnt go wrong on o4x if you compare the complete picture.
edit: remember, i would have the OneX here, if it was not for the €150 difference in Denmark initially, i was simply not gonna invest that much more in pretty much the same hardware. so its not a LG thing, i got. but we can probably compare those 2 down to the hardware, with exceptions to display,bt and touch.
Cleaned thread.

in design and quality....there is no way s3 could win 4X HD
4X HD just need some optimization to unlock its full potential....also im one happ 4X HD owner now
I choose the LG over the S3 more on looks, I like a brick phone, hate curves, I found the s3 nicer to use and screen more responsive, but I went for LG for hopefully ROMS that will cure the little software niggles

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about buying LG Optimus 4X and I have a few questions:
1- How is performance about of the box? Any lag?
2- Both 4X and HTC One X have the same processor, are they equal in performance? How is it compared to the S3? What would I be missing compared to both phones?
3- What about gaming? I've read that people have issues with Tegra 3 in gaming in both 4X and One X.
4- Battery life. What is the maximum screen on time with heavy usage?
5- Any news about JB update?
6- Are there any cons I should know about it before buying?
Thanks in advance, guys
My personal experience is ive had no problems with the gaming and the quality has been awesome, you will hear from a few that they think its laggy but id recommend them to stop the many programs they probably have running in the background using task manager.
the thing i dont like is the battery tends to get warm a lot of the time, ive played games like the grand theth auto series and 9mm and nfs most wanted ect ect which played well

They ran well with no lagging at all?
they run very well without lagging, the only time id say i found any problems like lagging was when i had many programs running in memory, for the cost of the phone if i experienced lagging id certainly send it back and buy another phone, people get carried away with downloaded programs that tweaks this or that and have things like the antivirus runnning in the background which then eats up a lot of recources also i wouldnt use programs that run in the background to change lock screens and themes
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:04 PM ----------
also i notice that the heat comes from just below the camera and not directly from the battery which would suggest its the proccessor heating up and not the battery, i dont know if its the same for everyone but check it when it feels hot,.remove the battery cover and feel for the heat source

Tegra 3 has heating issues due to it's 40nm structure.
The performance is better on the 4x then the one x. Since the tegra 3 was better optimized. I have no lag playing any games. Battery can be something that I didn't really figure out yet. Some days it is good some days it is horrible. When using the phone in wifi battery is rather good when using it on cellular data it is rather not so impressive. But the one x battery is by far worse and not removable. Where u can remove the battery on the 4x.

I had the one x and the galaxy s3 and i sold both u got the 4x. Battery on 4x better on then one x epual to s3. Performance s3 then 4x then one x. Screen one x the best then 4x and s3. Checkerboard when blacks im the s3 is bad and the burn in issues on the s3 screen are known issues. Camera one x then s3 then 4x. Custom Roms s3 and one x great, 4x has non.

Regarding performance, where does the 4X fall behind S3?
I the speeds text the enyox chips are somewhat better performance and battery life wise they give a little bit better results. But the tegra 3 in the 4x is better then the one x version. And I do not regret getting the 4x and it handles really everything as good as the s3 really. The camera is not as good so. It isn't bad but the zoom specially when close is pretty broken but there are camera apps that work good and fix the issue. Camera mx does really good actually. Anyway. The 4x is really a good phone.

Thanks that really helped
Not a problem and u will like the screen. Specially u don't have to worry about burn in and checkerboard looks when u have black backgrounds. And it performs better in sunlight then the amoleod screens do. LG really makes some of the best screens. I only wish I could put a custom rom on the 4x but the stock software is pretty ok. Do not worry about it being as a screw up like it was in the 2x. LG did a better job with that software in the 4x.

How about Camera
Hi,
I am about to buy this phone but there are a few things that are holding me back (or else, in India, sometimes it is coming out to be 33% cheaper than OneX or S3, which is just superb).
1. Camera quality - I saw the Neowin Review and it is the most honest review I've seen of this phone. Camera isn't its forte, but is a critical factor for me. With some 3rd party softwares, can it be any better, especially in darker settings?
2. Video - How good is the video with 3rd party softwares after updating the phone with 10h firmware update.?
3. I reckon that the battery issues are also taken care of with 10f/g or something like that?
4. How good is the music player with or without PowerAmp, especially with a headphone and not the standard speakers?
5. In White or Black?
6. Jelly bean is rumored to be out in Q1,13 with unlocked bootloader as well. Will that mean that CM and others will port their android version to 4x HD as well?
Anything else I should know before I make the purchase. This is my first time for a smart phone, so just trying to play safe.
Thanks in advance.

1. I don't use any camera, so can't tell. But kholk says it's better with his rom.
2. same as 1.
3. Battery is not great, but also not bad. Highest drain has been away since v10e (Europe). If the phone gets unlocked, custom kernels will take care of the problem.
4. I haven't used PowerAmp and I don't have good headphones. Also something I care about less.
5. White version has a small black border around the screen. Also, the button backlight, which is widely used as a Notification LED, can't be seen as good as in the black version. Everything else is just a matter of personal preferences.
6. Yes, yes and yes.

1. At first I was disapointed from the camera, but after flashing v10h it takes pretty good quality pictures,(big battery spender)
2. Video is not than good but u can change brightess so it takes NICE 1080p videos also can record with flash on, with good frame rate (I really love it)(Also ENORMOUS battery spender.)
3.there are nice battery tutorials which will make your batery drain unnoticable (I am curently 1d 13h 13min with 3g of 60 min usage over 4 hours talk time and wifi 30 min. So this is basic LIGHT usage but the battery is at 43% (CURRETLY TESTING THE BATTERY LIFE) ) with hard core use like ONLINE multyplayer games battery is spend for 3:30 - 4:30 hours
4. Standard music player is good not too loud on loudspeaker but on headphones it is pretty loud (for me), but Call speaker is not that loud
5. Black (It looks good)
6. YES, we are all waiting for that
Thank you both. I finally decided to buy it over LG L9. Both are fabulous phones but having the flagship phone and better reviews did it for me. It should be in my hands some time this week (online ordering). Am I happy? :highfive:

AW: [Q] Questions about the 4X
Then welcome to our community, you won't regret this, I think
...sent with my LG Optimus 4X HD...
Hi,
I also about to buy this phone. I coming from MOTO RAZR xt910 and my big worry is question: Are they confirmed to unlock bootloader? Moto also promised to do so and that's why I bought RAZR, now I ended up with this phone on stock ROM.
Good thing I saw, kholk working on CM, I know him back from SE Arc forum, he doin' grat job.
Overall, I like LG design, comparing phones 3 days, I reading, watching, etc... Last 2 left:
LG 4x vs SGS3
I thing I'll get LG 4x because of design, I really don't like SGS3 shape.
i have two friends which have s3 cause it "famous" them all have crack or scract at the edge.. i think s3 just fragile when it got drop but my 4x i think hundreds of got fall of the bed got thrown seriously still none.... forget gorilla glass 2 just think about the build quality
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
Actually the only difference between Gorilla Glass 1 and 2 is that 2 is thinner. They both offer the same protection.
Hey guys,
I think about buying the 4x HD. But know in see that theres a very small community for this phone. Isn't it as good as i heard or what? I know this phone for a while now and it's not Brand new anymore (i think), so it can't be the reaon. But why are here so few devs and ROMs?
And my last question: is there a Chance of getting an unlocked bootloader some day?
I really need a New phone now, cause now i stuck with my Galaxy S Plus for 2 years now
THX in advance...

I came from having a Galaxy S and yes, the community is much smaller than of the almighty phone of ours, but the device itself has been so underrated. Except for minor hiccups, IMO the phone is great. I was lucky enough to get it now, when the bootloader has been unlocked and Jelly Bean is around the corner.

THX for reply. I think if it gets CM10.1 fully working, i’ll buy it if there isn't a phone as good as the 4x HD for that prize (about 300 Euro in germany) than
. I just need CM, i can't live without it anymore (been on CM since CM7)

Yeah, CM is great! But don't worry - the firmwares LG is rolling out are great too! Clean menus, added functionality and very customisable. They should just fix the occasional lag and the Tegra drivers. Some games have a low frame rate, while on other Tegra 3 devices they run smoothly.

Welcome to our forum .
About games lags it is not a problem with phone ... as you can see the THD games are running very smoothly (Riptide gb , shadowgun ...etc ) while some others are lagging . This is a problem with game compatibility . So if you see the benchmark scores it nearly has the same as SGS3 . Personally my phone beats the SGS3 (With tweaks and MODs) in the benchmark , it got a higher score (about 1300 in the old Antutu (2.9.x) while SGS3 about 12xx) .
About the Devs ,, this is a new phone ,, every new phone will get a little Devs until it be become old .
About bootloaders ,, now we have an unlocked bootloaders (see the JB updates info and CWM Recovery thread)
Personally I bought this phone because it is the cheapest Quad-core phone in my country and I see it as an Excellent phone with its low price .

I had SGS (better GPU than SGS+), and SGS2 (GPU OC'ed to SGS3 speed and further) and SGS3, and 4X is is great as is any of those...
What you call flawless (Adreno 205 - I also had Incredible 2), somebody in now days calls a joke...
My recommendation for you is, if you are completely satisfied with SGS+, stick to it and upgrade only when you feel dissatisfaction...

I'm not completly satisfied anymore. I really want i bigger screen, better camera (even if its here not much better as i red) and also my phone laggs with to many open tasks caused by low RAM.
I really like my S+ and toke much work on it (raised the antutu score from the beginning(3500) up to now(6800)), but it's not uptodate anymore i really love the exitement of a New phone.
I also want to have a LG cause i really love the UI (got launcher and Theme on CM10 )
And i CAN play flawless, if i take my bigMEM (398mb of RAM), OC to 1824, clean RAM and taking gpu libs from galaxy w before playin'

First thanks for the nice welcome
And yeah, that why i'm so interestet in this phone
wait a little more... I believe this is not a small comunnity... all it was needed was the boot acess...
I could even venture in this terrain... why not...the problem is lack of knowledge and time... but we must walk before we can run...
Small community doesn't equal small amount of development or community support. In other sections there are also only ~20 active members, but there's also tons of noobs asking "which is the best rom" or "did i brick my phone" or "help me unlock i can't root" and stuff. There's four active devs around (IIRC), and dexter alone has made more stuff possible here than many devs on other sections. Now the bootloader is unlocked, we'll just have to wait for compiled roms and for LG to publish their sources, which should be in a few days. Then kholk can finish his kernel and we'll hopefully have a fully working CM10.1.

I haven't said that the devs aren't good i just said that there aren't much. I just can compair the 4x HD with my SGS+, cause it was my first and only smartphone (beside my samsung wave, but that wasn't with Android), and there where actually a pretty huge community and devs after this period of time.
And i decided to by this phone now. But now i got one question left:
Which COLOUR should i take? I like the black one but the white one looks also pretty cool (haven't seen both in reallife, that why i'm askin)
And THANKS for all replys, i think its a good start for the phone for me.
Cheers

I bought lg 4x hd 9 months ago and i am very unhappy. It's kind of slow with custom roms and kernels and the battery is just horrible . I used to have sony ericsson xperia neo V . I was very happy with both performance and battery. I am not the person who plays a lot of games. I just play 2 games and i have 5 apps. I really need the battery life to be very extented! So should i use my old phone rather than this one?
I am sorry for you , but 4x hd is the best phone ever with custom rom and kernel. For example my friend want my 4x when he has G2.
I have 2 hours of gaming , it's normal , even HTC one has the same results...

Try Iodak kernel 10beta with the following changes:
With Trickster Mod set all tensions to -50mv and interactive governor, runnable, with boost factor 2, dynamic freq 0, max normal freq 1000000, max freq 1300 or 1400Mhz.
Also in developer options sets gpu for 2d.
With this configuration I have 3 hours of screen-on with normal use and do not play

Wow really? Biggest lie ever. "My friend wants 4x while he has a G2"
You can play 4 + hours of GTA 3 on G2 and it'll still have enough battery to end the day.Don't mislead people into buying this phone as people consider reading forums before buying one...
And nope HTC one does not have the same results... You have no idea what you're talking about.

LoL. You don't even know how people use their phones. Okay , i will explain. My friend has installed a lot of useless apps and he has enabled wifi + gps all the time. And after using LG's UI he made a decision.
About HTC one it's true. It has almost the same battery and without using custom kernel games drain battery very fast.

I'm not supposed to know how your friend uses his phone, not at all...
Having wifi on all the time is not a good decision to begin with.GPS doesn't effect battery life as long as google location is off.Just because of your friend being unable to use his phone in an effecient way, doesn't mean G2 is better than our phone. And honestly, even with wifi on 24/7 I'm pretty sure G2 would last longer, having used my friend's G2 for a day.
You shouldn't be comparing phones based on how your friend is using his phone.Saying "4x hd is the best phone ever with custom rom and kernel" and then showing a friend's comment, who is not capable of using an android phone, that's a bad example.
And seriously, I laughed while quoting "4x hd is the best phone ever with custom rom and kernel".Sounds funny, really
No offense but, your friend must be the only living thing on the planet who prefers 4x hd to G2...
I wouldnt buy this phone anymore.

Yeah I know that 4x ain't the best thing for it's price , and yeah I said it in a wrong way ... I would say "for me" it's the best phone. Also OP asking what to use old phone or 4x when he compares phones like me with my 4x vs G2 (HTC one) comparison. So don't blame me so much...
If battery performance is the most important for you, get a Nokia 3310
Seriously, stick with your old phone, buy a bigger battery for 4X HD or buy another phone with better battery. Alternatively, you can try custom roms and kernels and lower CPU performance a bit to extend battery life.
