I've just recently acquired an I9305 in the UK. I'm on giffgaff.
It appears there are only 2 allowable modes for the mobile radio, 2G/3G/4G Auto mode, or 3G Only.
Has anyone figured out how to put it into 2G only mode?
Paul
The Australian version has options for 2g only, 3g only or auto. Only option it doesn't have is 4g only. Not sure why the UK version doesn't have the same options.

NatTheCat,
Which network are you on and are you running the stock ROM? I'm on giffgaff (O2), and there is no option for "use only 2gnetworks". I'm also using the stock ROM.

the last ppl to reply dont seem to give the proper info, Yes you can put it in 2G mode only and the way to do it is put it in GSM Only Mode....
GSM = 2G
WCDMA = 3G
LTE = 4G
Settings>More settings>Mobile Networks>Network Mode> GSM ONLY

Pretty sure the OP says he only has 2 options - all or 3G only.
Yeh I just read that lool whoops... i read the last reply and commented in regards to that info and just made sure the correct words were used in the settings options because OP said there is no option for 2G mode and infact he is right it says GSM mode instead of 2G..... 3G 4G 2G are not used for the abbreviations...
To the OP this is Very strange to have those options only , it has to be your Carrier which modified the rom for their network, but why wouldnt they want you on the 2G mode? are you sure they have those bands open maybe they are going to shut down the 2G bands down soon and are prepared lol Who knows ... I am confused on this one sorry bro
Possible option is to flash an Aus rom or some other European one.

Yea it's weird. It was from Orange originally, I then unlocked it and have moved to giffgaff.
Anyone else out there with Orange/EE can confirm only 3G, and 2G/3G/4G Auto network options?
I can confirm that those are the only options on an Orange lte in the UK.

Well that stinks. One good reason to flash a different ROM.
Thanks.
Hi,
How to disable LTE ? I mean I want edge and WCDMA enabled, but simply disable the LTE chip/module ?
I am using the 6603 model here in Canada, where most providers has 2600 Mhz LTE support. But I can only get 3G to work. This is what I found so far attempting with two different providers.
1) one of the providers cannot even find 4G when I do a network search, another can find it's 4G LTE access point, but cannot register to it
2) APN are set properly
3) LTE is selected as prefered already on phone
4) we have tried 4 different Xperia Z 6603 units and none of them will get 4G
Any thoughts on this, any additional info needed I can provide.
Thank you everyone :crying:

I'm interested in importing a 6603 myself. It could be that the radio software in the phone isn't set up to connect to just the 2600 LTE band. I know users of other phones have had to flash a different baseband in order to connect to their desired band frequency. But I have no clue. Just spitballin'. I hope someone figures it out soon though. It would make the decision to buy one much easier.

I know, but it doesn't mean the phone is natively ready to use that band on its own. For all I know the baseband on the Xperia Z connects to two band frequencies, one for upload and one for download. I have no idea why it's not working on Rogers LTE out of the box. Hopefully it's just a fairly simple software fix, but I can't say for sure.

I don't think Bell/Virgin uses the 2600 LTE band, so you're out of luck..

So I'm in LA inside where I'm at i get three bars of LTE and full bars of 3G since the 3G is stronger it keeps me in 3G for the most part unless i do a profile update then it puts me at 4G for 5 minutes before kicking me back down. So the question is, is there a way to force LTE?

The bars do not represent EVDO (3G) or LTE (4G), they represent 1X Voice on the HTC One. If you want to know the actual signal strength of your 3G and 4G go to settings/About Phone/Network.
My guess is that the LTE is borderline in the building and therefore it goes back and forth. Where I work I have strong LTE and EVDO but when I'm in the building it will switch to 3G once I start using data like Youtube or something. Once I stop and set the phone down it will reconnect to LTE. If I go towards the outer part of the building I will get a better LTE connection, or if I go outside it is really good. This is due to the poor penetration of the 1900mhz LTE.
The phone will connect to the higher priority signal, first 4G and then 3G.
As said above, it seems like your LTE connection is very weak, or else the phone would stick to that.
Ok so i did *#*#4636#*#* and changed it from CDMA + LTE to LTE, CDMA and it hasn't dropped from 4G

If you set it to "LTE only" then yes but if you set it to "LTE,CDMA" it will only connect to LTE and 1XRTT and bypasses EVDO. So you phone should stay on 4G a lot more since EVDO is disabled but if LTE drops you will drop to 1X

Correct. Hence CDMA/LTE vs CDMA/EvDO/LTE. You can also do LTE only if you're feeling bold.
Is there a way I can change my data icon to show LTE or 4G all the time instead of H or E. Im running the google edition rom and I don't like seeing H on my phone. I notice on insertcoin roms he gives you the option to choose between at&t, t-mobile and international. With international I get the H and with t-mobile i get the 4g symbol, so is there anyway I can change this using the google edition rom?
Nobody?

I don't think there are themes or tweaks for that yet. The data icon is dependent on your coverage, so it changes from place to place.
you could change to a carrier with better LTE coverage. If your seeing E that means the coverage sucks.

Its weird because when I flash insert coin ROM and choose and different carrier the icon changes. So I was thinking that it's some changes in the system or maybe a radio or something.

You should pick your own carrier's icon for the best results
icons are just cosmetic. the important issue is what technology your modem is talking to the tower with. LTE is ideal, hspa is tolerable and edge is garbage.
A lot of carriers started labling hspa as 4G. AOSP calls lte 4g. The GPE shows LTE and HSPA which is the most accurate. Changing the icons to anything other than an indicator of LTE, Hspa or Edge is just putting lipstick on a pig.

Lol well I just need me some lipstick cause I already know that most carriers dress H+ as 4g just rather have the 4g or LTE icons regardless of what signal I'm receiving.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The icons draw a little differently in 4.4. they moved the up/down triangles so they only show on the quicksettings tiles. You could try tracking down some kind of icon mod zip from 4.3 and give it a whirl but I dunno if it would work.
There's also this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335241
seems promising for the sort of decoration you're wanting.
none of this will make one bit of difference in your connectivity. Same as painting a Honda Ferrari red and sticking a Ferrari logo on it won't make it faster.

In a sense based ROM changing the skuid will give you the changes you're looking for. I don't have any idea what it will do for a GPe ROM, but you could give it a try.

I dont know exactly how to check it..

Due to the fact that you bought EU version there is possibility that 4G mode will be disabled by software. On other models it's possible to unlock it by editig build.prop file or you can try to change mode by using *#*#4636#*#* (I'm not sure if it works on this model) code and then choose LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto mode.
There were no LTE option there its just wifi option .battery, phone status and statistics only..i hope it would be possible..thanks for the tips btw.

It's not the best solution because each restart require enabling 4G mode from beggining but it's better then nothing

You Should have correct APN settings from your provider to get LTE and you should be in LTE coverage area.
You should Select Bands According to your network provider. Or on auto mode..
Use 5457#*955# code to get hidden menu
