[Q] 4G LTE will not work in Canada - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using the 6603 model here in Canada, where most providers has 2600 Mhz LTE support. But I can only get 3G to work. This is what I found so far attempting with two different providers.
1) one of the providers cannot even find 4G when I do a network search, another can find it's 4G LTE access point, but cannot register to it
2) APN are set properly
3) LTE is selected as prefered already on phone
4) we have tried 4 different Xperia Z 6603 units and none of them will get 4G
Any thoughts on this, any additional info needed I can provide.
Thank you everyone :crying:

I'm interested in importing a 6603 myself. It could be that the radio software in the phone isn't set up to connect to just the 2600 LTE band. I know users of other phones have had to flash a different baseband in order to connect to their desired band frequency. But I have no clue. Just spitballin'. I hope someone figures it out soon though. It would make the decision to buy one much easier.

I know, but it doesn't mean the phone is natively ready to use that band on its own. For all I know the baseband on the Xperia Z connects to two band frequencies, one for upload and one for download. I have no idea why it's not working on Rogers LTE out of the box. Hopefully it's just a fairly simple software fix, but I can't say for sure.

I don't think Bell/Virgin uses the 2600 LTE band, so you're out of luck..

[Q] Does a rooted T-Mo N1 work on AT&T?

Hello community,
I couldn't find any info through the Search, so I was hoping someone could let me know if a rooted Nexus One for T-Mobile would work on AT&T. I have the unlocked bootloader, custom recovery image and ROM, the whole 9 yards, but what I don't have is the understanding about GSM networks and how the modifications I made to my phone affect the cross-network compatibility.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
The two models operate on different gsm bands. An unrooted t-mobile n1 will work on att, but only on edge..

Rooting should have no affect on it.
And if its the TMO version of the phone you will only have 2g (edge) on ATT. Seeing as both networks use different frequencies. And the cellular antenna will only be tuned to pick up 3g+ signals from TMOs frequencies.

I think..
But AT&T doesn't allow apps to be installed via apk files. So no 3rd party stuff.
If I'm correct.

You are so painfully incorrect. At&t has no presence on this phone. Get your facts right before you post here.
a T-Mobile Nexus One wont work on at&t's 3G network. Only on edge. Rooting has no effect.

[Q] Unlocking xt860 for USA

So i'm travelling to the states for 5 days and someone suggested to me instead of paying for a bunch of roaming add-ons from Bell, i may be better off to unlock my phone and get a sim card on a pay as you go plan. Is this possible and more importantly is it worth it?
Any advice is appreciated
I would personally bite the bullet. It'll probably cost you about $20 to unlock the phone and then you will have to get an AT&T SIM card or pay as you go, probably won't have data on it, etc etc... Last time I went down to the US I spent about $50 on roaming. You're only down there for 5 days, how much time do u want to spend screwing with your phone?
Another thing you could do is turn on airplane mode but keep the wifi turn on, and get a google voice number. Pair that with GrooVe IP, and you have a $5 wi-fi only solution.
The data is what I'm more interested in. My phone will double as my GPS unit, and Google search to find stuff to do. Bell charges 30 bucks for 10 MB.
I'm probably gonna e doing 4-5 trips a year to the states, on a pay as you go I could probably just reload everytime I go down, once I have the sim

Just go to Crackberry, go to the SIM unlocking section, find a site that allows you to unlock for free, then yeah T-Mobile has prepaid service, or maybe AT&T I don't know. Anyway, you get the idea.

would this work with tmobile's 4g/3g network?
Stanley,
AFIAK the 3G frequencies used by T-Mobile is AWS, which the XT860 is not compatible with.
Hey guys sorry just a quick question...
Would the Bell XT860 work on Rogers/Fido once it was unlocked? Has anyone actually tried it?
The reason I ask is because I've read that apparently the Verizon Droid 3 was not compatible with Fido/Rogers even after being unlocked.
Thanks
Bell XT860 definitely works on Rogers when unlocked. I'm using one right now on Rogers. (Just running the Chinese ME863 ROM on it right now). When i was on the stock Bell ROM it also worked fine.

I know nothing about this stuff, but google search tells me that t-mobile uses 1900 MHz GSM and 2100MHz UMTS which are both supported by the xt860. They also support HSPA+
does this not mean the xt860 should work on t-mobile?
The phone would need the phone to support the 1700mhz band as well.

Hey fireeater,
I just ordered an XT883 that will be unlocked and will be used with my T-mobile sim. T-Mobile uses 1700 & 2100 for their 3g while AT&T uses 850/1900. Do you know if the agreement between AT&T and T-mobile will allow the XT883 to get 3g with t-mobile?
Tmobile is refarming their 3g. So you will get 3g by the end of the year.

Is the HTC One's sim tray unlocked?

At my second job my company is sending me a Sprint HTC one to use as my work phone and they want me to activate it on my Sprint account or they'll pay the deposit to open the account if there's one. But where I live I don't good coverage from them and there 3G is SUPER SLOW, I can't really stand the sucky service in my area. I Have T-Mobile and have good coverage where ever I go and was wondering if the sim tray in the Sprint Htc one is Unlocked so I can just activate with my T-Mobile account and pop in a T-Mobile SIM card. If any one can please confirm this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm 99% sure it's a no. T-Mobile uses different radios from Sprint, I think AT&T and T-Mobile use the same radios, which is why you can use unlocked AT&T phones on T-Mobile.

A world phone can have many different interpretations such as using a gsm network somewhere else or just roaming outside the us and we can all roam outside the us such as mexico which is domestic roaming and I think that is also considered a world phone since ur using it somewhere else

In the OP's case, a discussion as to whether the phone is SIM locked or unlocked on the One is completely moot because the Sprint variant of the device does not possess the GSM or UMTS/WCDMA frequency bands needed to operate in most of the Americas, including the United States. It only does GSM 900/1800 and UMTS 2100. In other words, even if it was unlocked for other companies' US GSM or UMTS SIM cards it wouldn't be able to get any signal in the US, or for that matter, anywhere in most of North, Central, or South America or in other parts of the world where the GSM or UMTS 850 or 1900 MHz bands are used.

According to this article, which I have linked several times on here in response to this question, the ONE on Sprint most likely has GSM 900/1800mhz capability. Which is the GSM most all of the world uses except for the US. That is why it is a "World Phone."

Even if it was sim unlocked it wont work. Its a hardware limitation, not a software one. It cant run on the frequencies that North America uses for GSM.
It does run frequencies that we run here in the us. It supports 1900 and 2100 utms. 850 and 900 gsm. Both are used here in the us by at&t and t-mobile.

Isnt it hardware limited to a point where it cant operate on a 3g/hspa gsm data network? i.e. if you do sim unlock and take it to a gsm carrier you will not get anything over 2g/edge speed?

Possible to pick up AT&T LTE?

I was playing around with my T-Mo Z C6606 for over a week.
Yesterday, I decided to flash it with new rom 10.3.1.A.0.244 Generic ES.
I rooted it and it worked properly.
After reading a post about enable LTE in Canada, I decided to flash my Z with C6506 baseband.
Everything is going good and it shows my Z now supports LTE_BC1, LTE_BC2, LTE_BC4, LTE_BC5, LTE_BC17 while stock rom only supports LTE_BC4 for T-Mo LTE. AT&T LTE is LTE_BC4 and LTE_BC17.
However, my Z is still not picking up LTE. I also read that I need to call at&t to update imei to make it connects to LTE.
I called them and they added my Z imei but so far, it is still not picking LTE signals, only H+.
I am not sure if ZL baseband doesn't work with Z or something else.
I appreciate your comments.

I am not sure if they have changed their procedure for what phones they allow to use the LTE bands, but from what I read you need an imei of an AT&T branded phone to get them to change your plan to allow LTE access(doesnt't affect the price of your plan) , then you may use a different phone provided you have the proper apn and it supports AT&T LTE bands(which you are uncertain of at this point). Does your AT&T plan online say it's the LTE plan? I currently have the developer version of the HTC One and people had issues getting LTE access on that phone (this phone definitely has AT&T LTE bands) and people had to resort to using a imei of another AT&T branded LTE phone in order to get access to LTE. I previously had a ATT Galaxy Note 2 and when I got my HTC One I just popped the sim in, never called them, and have been fine since.
Yes, I have 4G LTE Plan on my number as it was on my previous Xperia TL AT&T version.
I also did call them and request to add my Z IMEI and they told me they did. However, I couldn't get LTE so far.
One more thing, I also can't get t-mobile LTE with C6506 baseband firmwares unless I reflash it with stock t-mobile baseband (LTE_BC4 only).

Moto X US import on EE UK

Hi all
Have just bought a moto x off of someone. They've told me it's a us import. As of yet I cannot seem to get a lte signal on the ee network in the Uk and I'm worried I've bought something that isn't going to get lte in this country (my fault should have checked first)
Does anyone know if it's possible to root and install a new firmware so that it sees the lte band here in the Uk. (1800 I think)
Please tell me I haven't made a massive mistake buying this.
Cheers
