Moto X US import on EE UK - Moto X Q&A

Hi all
Have just bought a moto x off of someone. They've told me it's a us import. As of yet I cannot seem to get a lte signal on the ee network in the Uk and I'm worried I've bought something that isn't going to get lte in this country (my fault should have checked first)
Does anyone know if it's possible to root and install a new firmware so that it sees the lte band here in the Uk. (1800 I think)
Please tell me I haven't made a massive mistake buying this.
Cheers
CJ

Looks like it's a XT1058 if that helps.

There is no chance of adding 1800mhz LTE, the needed hardware is not present in an XT1058. It does have band 7 LTE though(2600Mhz) if you have a provider that uses that.

flash the XT883 ROM and there is no 3G on TMobile

First I need to apologize my poor English. Hope you can understand.
I'm a Chinese Student study in the U.S. right now.
I Just bought a second hand Verizon Droid 3. I bought a SIM unlock code, and flashed the xt883 Chinese ROM(57.1.40 first then update to 57.1.60). I typed *#*#2468#*#* for unlocking gsm network.
However, I found out I can't get 3G but only EDGE!!!!!!!!
i'm using t-mobile. I checked that the wcdma band is 2100 and I think xt862 support that right?
Any idea?
Actually, i hear a lot of t mobiles 3g is 1700mhz aws

I think it should be 1700/2100.
Is there any one using this phone in tmobile?

It is not possible to get 3G on T-Mobile USA with D3 because it lacks the necessary hardware. It is not a software issue.

I wanna say they use 700 MHz which you have to get custom phones for them to get 3g. Sorry you're screwed. At least you got edge.

Maybe AT&T will work as I know the bands are right.

I went to tmobile yesterday, and confirm unlock phone just don't work at there 3G/4G because the technology is different......
I use prepay plan. So i just switch to Verizon. and xt883 rom doesn't work.... so I have to flash back to xt862 rom. That means, if I went back to China, I have to flash it to xt883 again to use it in China....
Can you go on AT&T? Their gsm frequencies should be compatible with droid3

[Q] 4G LTE will not work in Canada

I am using the 6603 model here in Canada, where most providers has 2600 Mhz LTE support. But I can only get 3G to work. This is what I found so far attempting with two different providers.
1) one of the providers cannot even find 4G when I do a network search, another can find it's 4G LTE access point, but cannot register to it
2) APN are set properly
3) LTE is selected as prefered already on phone
4) we have tried 4 different Xperia Z 6603 units and none of them will get 4G
Any thoughts on this, any additional info needed I can provide.
Thank you everyone :crying:

I'm interested in importing a 6603 myself. It could be that the radio software in the phone isn't set up to connect to just the 2600 LTE band. I know users of other phones have had to flash a different baseband in order to connect to their desired band frequency. But I have no clue. Just spitballin'. I hope someone figures it out soon though. It would make the decision to buy one much easier.

I know, but it doesn't mean the phone is natively ready to use that band on its own. For all I know the baseband on the Xperia Z connects to two band frequencies, one for upload and one for download. I have no idea why it's not working on Rogers LTE out of the box. Hopefully it's just a fairly simple software fix, but I can't say for sure.

I don't think Bell/Virgin uses the 2600 LTE band, so you're out of luck..

Is the HTC One's sim tray unlocked?

At my second job my company is sending me a Sprint HTC one to use as my work phone and they want me to activate it on my Sprint account or they'll pay the deposit to open the account if there's one. But where I live I don't good coverage from them and there 3G is SUPER SLOW, I can't really stand the sucky service in my area. I Have T-Mobile and have good coverage where ever I go and was wondering if the sim tray in the Sprint Htc one is Unlocked so I can just activate with my T-Mobile account and pop in a T-Mobile SIM card. If any one can please confirm this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
No

I'm 99% sure it's a no. T-Mobile uses different radios from Sprint, I think AT&T and T-Mobile use the same radios, which is why you can use unlocked AT&T phones on T-Mobile.

I'm sure those bands don't exist anywhere significant.

According to some Sprint forums it is a world phone. It just isn't unlocked.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
A world phone can have many different interpretations such as using a gsm network somewhere else or just roaming outside the us and we can all roam outside the us such as mexico which is domestic roaming and I think that is also considered a world phone since ur using it somewhere else

In the OP's case, a discussion as to whether the phone is SIM locked or unlocked on the One is completely moot because the Sprint variant of the device does not possess the GSM or UMTS/WCDMA frequency bands needed to operate in most of the Americas, including the United States. It only does GSM 900/1800 and UMTS 2100. In other words, even if it was unlocked for other companies' US GSM or UMTS SIM cards it wouldn't be able to get any signal in the US, or for that matter, anywhere in most of North, Central, or South America or in other parts of the world where the GSM or UMTS 850 or 1900 MHz bands are used.

According to this article, which I have linked several times on here in response to this question, the ONE on Sprint most likely has GSM 900/1800mhz capability. Which is the GSM most all of the world uses except for the US. That is why it is a "World Phone."

Partially true since this does not only apply to the US specifically. See my post right before yours.

Fixed that for you. You could not use it in the US.
but even by flashing a customized firmware once the phone has been rooted the phone is unable to manage others sim cards?
is there any change to remove the sim lock somehow?

Even if it was sim unlocked it wont work. Its a hardware limitation, not a software one. It cant run on the frequencies that North America uses for GSM.
It does run frequencies that we run here in the us. It supports 1900 and 2100 utms. 850 and 900 gsm. Both are used here in the us by at&t and t-mobile.

Isnt it hardware limited to a point where it cant operate on a 3g/hspa gsm data network? i.e. if you do sim unlock and take it to a gsm carrier you will not get anything over 2g/edge speed?

Ok... So you're thinking about buying an unlocked phone that was originally a Verizon phone but was used on T-Mobile that you want to use on AT&T? That is a bit convoluted, each vendor uses different bits of spectrum and a Verizon phone isn't a pure GSM phone such as AT&T or T-Mobile might have, I would be cautious, why not just get an unlocked AT&T device?
That being said, if it can be used on a GSM network like T-Mobile it should work on AT&T, the problem being that - as I said - each carrier uses different bits of the spectrum.
Save yourself the potential hassle and buy the proper AT&T model.
Yeah i am being cautious I'm passing on it thanks for the responses

Sim stood being recognized

Hey there. I got this new moto x and have been holding off on is upgrades until I can get my bearings on what I need to do to ensure fully unlocked and customizable phone in the future as I caught wind of issues doing so post kk. Twice now my Sim has stopped working. Wondering if this was a known issue or if I need to investigate prior to visit the warranty
Thanks in advanced for any feedback.

Just understand that if you really have an XT1053 on ATT, it doesn't support all the bands ATT uses for LTE so you'll fall back to HSPA

Interesting. On 4g now and thought I checked for compatibility.
My issue is that I drop all communication. Not that I step down in speed.

Right, the missing LTE bands shouldn't cause total loss of service.
For ATT there is 4G HSPA and 4G LTE.. not sure how the GSM varients report each. And the XT1053 does support the primary LTE band ATT uses.
Hey there,
I had the same issue. Got a XT1058 and am using it on T-Mobile. I kept loosing signal completely. Sim Card not recognized.
The problem I found is that if you are using a sim card that has been cut to fit the tray will cause signal loss issue.
Went to T-Mobile got a new sim card and been using it without a problem.
Let us know if this helps you.
