Can we agree on a standard [day/month/year] title name? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I constantly check android and original android development forums for updates to my ROM and kernel but their date layout (?) Differs between US users and the rest of the world. Can we enforce a standard among posters to facilitate exactly when an update occurs. I am currently looking at dates such as 6-7-13 (June 07 2013) or 7-6-2013 (July 06 2013).
USA, get it together, man!!!

Haha I was just thinking that.
IMO it should be i.e. If the date is July 6, 2013 then it should be written exactly like that numerically, 7-6-13.

Being that a majority of the OG One developers are in the UK and not US I'm fine with D/M/YY...
But I agree on a standard of sorts

Well, the 29th may be soon, but an announcement is far from an upgrade. That doesn't mean were gonna get it any time soon.

If I remember correctly, there was quite a few weeks between the announcement and the AOSP availability for ICS. Sure, Nexus gets it as soon it hits AOSP. But announcing it does not imply AOSP availability the same day.

Face plant when you find the "4.2" part is more of a "42" reference in that the new LG Nexus phone is the answer to life, the universe and everything.

Apparently not, as some people seem to expect Google to announce 4.2 Monday, and download it on their Nexus 7 Tuesday.
Does any one thinks that 4.1.2 and 4.2 will be same?

you guys obviously don't understand what nexus means. at the last I/O event, they announced it JB4.1, and it went live the same day... as well as every device they gave out that day had it pre installed.

The rest is your own interpretation of events. Never had a service level agreement that shows a guaranteed release upon announcement, but it's lined up so far. It's likely that 4.2 will be available on our devices fast due to no vendor customization.

NEXUS 7-2nd Generation (Nexus 7.2 ) THE NEW NEXUS COMING

I have been waiting for the Nexus 7 2, also referred to Nexus 7.2 aka Nexus 7 HD since the rumours started.
I was very disappointed when in may it wasnot announced as expected. Almost at the end of June, we still have no confirmation
Last week, two Asus devices, the K008 and K009, were discovered listed under Bluetooth SIG and FCC certifications. Although the Asus device isn't confirmed as Google's Nexus 7 2 tablet, the coincidence is a large one. The Nexus tablet is expected to be released to the public in July, and the filing was dated to June.
This is going to be a heck of tablet with excellent features.
Latest rumours are :
Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor
2GB Ram
Android 4.3
Front 1.3 MP camera & 5MP rear camera
1080p resolution
16/32 Gb variants without SD card
LTE support would be added
Price is expected to be 200-250 US dollars.
With all this attraction and everything, I am googling at least ten times a day about new articles written about it.
Anyone has any more to say or waiting as patiently as me ?
I just want to know, is it just me or there are others like me ?

My thoughts on Nexus devices and Google Edition Phones.

I just bought my Nexus 4 not long ago. I am really impressed by how this phone is designed and how it functions despite of the flaws it has. It came shipping with the latest Android 4.2.2(maybe not anymore).
Then i recalled Google's policy about phones only having 18 months of Android Support(something like that). Anything more than that, either rely on this forum for newer versions of Android or get a new phone.
Then with Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One releasing their own Google Edition types. I was just wondering did Google ditch their Nexus fans for these alternatives.
I mean....Nexus 4 is nearly an 8 months old device. Only 10 more months to go and who knows whether this device can live till the next Google I/O for its next major upgrade of Android. Maybe Google foresaw this coming and hence decided to release Galaxy S4 and One's Google Edition?
What do you guys think?

Google has said they won't stop Nexus program. This GE program is still OEM dependent. The upgrades will come from OEM and not Google.
Also these devices won't be part of AOSP like Nexus devices are.

OMG! I am so sorry I didn't see your thread and I opened a new one. But we have the same idea/thinking. And you are really right they are junks. I am just wondering how Google is going to repay us Nexus fans looking at how badly timed their I/O as it usually happens around the middle of the year. And this device is going to be so called "expired" by next year April.
Is Nexus 4 going to only have 4.3(upcoming) as its latest version looking at how it is only a minor upgrade compared to the previous nexus devices.
What I really hope is that Google can launch 5.0(maybe) before Nexus 4 go into retirement although I know that we still have this community to count on for future Android upgrades. If they don't release it by then, I am really going to be having doubts about their treatment to us Nexus fans.

My GSM Galaxy Nexus is beyond its 18-month update window so if it gets 4.3, then Google may continue support beyond that window.

The devices will be buildable in aosp for a good while, so don't be worried. A quad core phone with 2gb ram isn't losing support any time soon. Especially a nexus. My crespo has 4.2, and it shipped with GB..... Think of it like that.

From a technical point of view it will get 4.3 and KLP, the hardware is powerful enough if it can handle 4.2.2.
On the other side there is of course the $$$ for support of such old devices...

I know its around the same time every year but Nexus 4 had a bad release date looking that this year I/O didn't release any new Android and the next one we are getting is only 4.3.
If we traced it forward, the next I/O should be around June next year which is already over the date of Google Support. Which means we won't be getting the next version after 4.3 officially but ofc we can still rely on our Devs here for their future builds(big thanks to them!!)
Unless, they are going to have their next major upgrade officially before next year I/O. If not they are just betraying us by telling us to get a new Nexus Device and only upgrading it once and its a minor one too(mainly under the hood stuffs).
Which leads me to think they are using better phones with better sales(fact) to continue their line of Android upgrades because it was badly timed. OK maybe partially due to the hurricane last year and they had to pull it back.

No idea what the OP means by "over the date of Google Support"...
There was some time ago a move by Google to convince OEMs (!) to support their phones 18months after release, this was of course nothing binding, but more like a "recommendation" by Google.
Google never said there is a time-frame for Nexus support, until the phones hardware can support a new Release, there will be AOSP support for it.

Ya I'm not quite sure where the OP is getting his/ her info from either..
Google will continue to support the Nexus line so long as the hardware is compatible with the software..
Google did I/0 right this year as its a developer conference and shouldn't be used for new products IMHO..

So does the time of release of an update correlate to posting a changelog to AOSP? Like in the past how long has passed between changelog and update hitting 100% of phones? I am still assuming they are using IO to announce the release for some reason.

I think this KitKat update is coming before Google I/O conference in June. Remember, back in March, Android 4.4.3 was first rumored for mid-April. U.S carrier Sprint even jumped the gun and posted 4.4.3 OTA update promise "now" in mid-April, then sheepishly had to remove it from their public pages a week later. Of course we are now well into the month of May... Not sure why the delay, but I still think it's coming before I/O.
But I think 4.4.3 is minor bug squasher KitKat update that will come before the NEXT Android release with the Nexus 8 tablet announcement at the I/O conference in LATE June (June 25 - 26). Remember product "announcement" does not mean "release". Nexus 8 tablet and next version of Android will be announced at END of June, then will probably be released sometime in July.
Whatever is announced at end of June I/O will NOT show up before July. I just can't see this 4.4.3 waiting until JULY.
It's getting close to I/O ,the 4.4.3 ota is still not released....

Yes, but 4.4.3 will still probably come before then (I/O is June 25) -- because whatever is ANNOUNCED at I/O will not be RELEASED until July. We are now in the first week of May. 4.4.3 could still be released next week as bug squasher update.
Then in late June at I/O, Nexus 8 tablet and next version of Android ANNOUNCED. Then in July Nexus 8 tablet ships with NEW version of Android, the one AFTER 4.4.3.
I just can't see Google waiting TWO MORE MONTHS to release a basic bug fix update. So far from the changelog, that's all 4.4.3 is. Surely with Nexus 8 tablet they will want at least a couple new features as selling points.
Also U.S. Sprint wouldn't have posted the 4.4.3 announcement page back in mid-April if the release wasn't imminent. Sure they jumped the gun, but they were apparently led to believe it was coming then. I still think it's coming before May is over, due to flurry of Google app updates.

No, because Google never posted a changelog to AOSP before. While it is exciting, the changelog was posted 3 weeks ago and hardly means anything is imminent. Plus, the changelog is very flawed in that it shows all changes since 4.4 not the last release. It seems the posting to AOSP was an accident I would imagine.

Oh I don't know. It's not like Sprint RF engineers and testers have Spark enabled Nexus 5 running around for months which is explicitly included in the 4.4.3 update..
Fact is Google have to coordinate the rollout of 4.4.3 with their partners (carriers) to make sure the phone doesn't screw up anyones network. Google told the carriers (Sprint) that their update was ready and they're about the push it.
Sprint is notified and have confirmed that the update that is relevant for them (activation of band 26 / 41) is completed so they put the change log up. Google or one of the partners finds a problem and halts the rollout before it begin.
So now we all wait.

Android 6 Marshmallow for Android One

It's the birth of another sweet treat going to come to Android One in a matter of weeks. I'm sure all of you readers are excited.
Just a few heads up before you get too much enthused though...
1) Know that Google has been working to provide regular security updates over the past few months. This means there should not be a huge delay in the update schedule, unlike last year. Now Google has to serve its new customers in Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan,Turkey,Nigeria,UK, Spain and Portugal instead of just India and Bangladesh, so its obvious that it will look after its babies.
2) Know that in order to get the Android 6 update, you have to have a free storage space of at least 10% of the system memory otherwise it won't download. Further, if you're rooted, install back the stock ROM and stock Bootloader otherwise the installation will result in an error.
Lastly, don't forget to share it when you have received the OTA.
The expected release is in mid October

By 'UK', are you referring to the Karbonn Sparkle V that is available through Amazon UK and 7DayShop? BQ deliver their 2GB RAM M.5 to the UK but it is not an Android One device - the 1GB RAM A4.5, which is based on the M4.5 but with a five-year guarantee taking the place of the extra gigabyte of RAM - only delivers to Spain and Portugal.
Congratulations guys!!
