Hi verygreen -- I can't post in your thread.
Just wanted to let you know a few things.
I am using the B&N branded "antiglare" screen protector on an HD+. It makes the beautiful screen somewhat sandy, but it is better than the oil streaks that my fingers leave behind. Too bad SGP doesn't make one for it.
My reported Lib version is 0x54 0x27 -- I purchased it around Father's Day.
I find that the stock sensitivity isn't very good. The screen has two faults: First, it will ignore about 20% of my taps. Second, it "wiggles" when I hold my finger down on the screen. My finger is not moving, but if I hold down on a window that can move completely in two degrees of freedom (e.g. is not constrained), the display "jitters" or "wiggles" a little bit.
When I increase the Touch Detect threshold to 9 or A, my sensitivity issues seem to go away. However, changing none of the vars appears to make the jitter go away.
Just a few thoughts. Hope this helps.

First, my Tilt is babied. Then I see what looks to be a small scratch on the screen protector near the vertical slider window. Nope. CRACKED DIGITIZER! LCD appears unscathed.
So what's the cause?
Thermal expansion? (Mine has gone up to 118 degrees F).
Less sensitivity with a "Screen Protector?"
I've lowered the Registry value to 135 for the Touchpad sensitivity which seemed to work well.
Now I'm wondering if it is due to the phone freezing (with Opera) and my attempt to close it down or do anything while it is temporarily frozen. I may press harder on it thinking the first touch wasn't enough.
Anyway, parts on order from Brian at blackberry8100 for $68.
Annoying - and maybe too fragile a screen.
Mack
So my only complaint so far is the screen sensativity.
I know this doesnt use a capacitive screen, so it needs physical pressure, but it seems to me the glass on the top of the screen makes it need alot more pressure than i'm used to. The middle of the screen seems to be more sensative, and the outside less sensative.
You can test this by putting your finger down on HOME in touchflo, then scrolling to programs and back again. If you pres hard, it will go back and forth. If you use less pressure at home and programs it will load the programs or home screen, as if you released your finger.
So i know there's two reg keys for this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel
By doing a screen slignment and pressing hard with the stylus i get a lower value here, and by pressing lightly i get a higher value here.
So high value = detects lighter press, low value - needs harder press
HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings\fingurepressure
This i'm confused about. I tried setting it to 0, 2, 14, 200, 255, 600, and there's not noticable difference as far as i can see.
Is there some sort of program that can read the the pressure from the screen and display it? This would help make the tests alot more scientific!
Someone posted this tip in the tips and tweaks thread above...maybe useful to you??
One tip for changing the sensitivity if you don't want to mess around in the registry:
- run the Align Screen setting (under Settings/System/ Screen)
- when you press on the 'targets' with the stylus, use VERY light pressure...just enough that the tap is accepted
- I usually tap a few times on each target, starting too lightly, and then gradually increasing the pressure until the tap is taken
- do this for each of the 5 targets
I found this seems to make the Diamond calibrate a higher sensitivity for its touch-screen, so finger touches can be much lighter.
This is probably a safer way to change the sensitivity, as you don't risk putting an invalid number into the registry.
Thanks, i already tried that.
Can someone tell me their value for this key?

19 decimal?
I've just about had enough of this touchflo.. pretty but soooo anoying to use
Today on about 3 ocasions i was navigating through it and got a call.. the lights on the touch wheel were flashing and it was playing the ringtone, but the whole phone was frozen for about 4 seconds. Eventually the call popped up and i was able to answer!
I think i'm going to diable it and do my best to make the rest pretty.
You just have to be patient...the roms are not mature yet...
In 3 months you'll see that Diamond will be the best phone out there
I also am trying to find out the best way to configure the finger sensitivity.

yeah but 3 months is a long time... i have to do something to stop myself smashing the phone on the floor on frustration!
for now i'm going to disable touch flow, and i'll come back to it when a new rom comes out.
Have you tried the new rom 1.37.XXX ?
Bye
I have a UK diamond.. so it came with 1.37.405.1
I've just done the "light tap" trick, and now it's perfect...
Could it be that you have a defective device?
Bye
Its better with that 'trick' but still anoying. I have a feeling i'm just too used to a capacitive screen.
The wierd thing is with the light tap the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel ends up back to 30 to 50 decimal.
i only bought it today yet im seriously thinking of taking it back. The iPhone is just the better product, and always will be, unless Microsoft and the software developers get as passionate as those at apple.
Its Laggy
Its un-intuative
The touch screen isnt as sensitive as it should be. (why are they still using resistive touchscreens)
And the opera browser isnt all that either, it doesnt redraw quick enough for the full page display thing to really be all that impressive on zoom in/out and leaves chessboard squared at it struggles and chuggs to redraw.. . .not great, not when the comptetition is as good as it is. . . . .im thinking 3G Iphone, ****ty camera or not.
Loose the 6.1 and stop trying to polish that turd with TouchFlo's. Yeah good effort, but it just aint good enough
J
WM is just a huge resource hog. The touchflo is slow because its a plugin for the today screen, which then calls on windows API's to draw onto the screen.
Its such a long long way round to get to the hardware that its just slow no matter how well u code.
I just hope someone ports android to the diamond, because the hardware is amazing, the OS is a pile of ****!
BTW they use resistive touchscreens to have increased touch resolution. Also a stylus wouldnt work with a capacitive screen.
I prefer to work with resistive LCD than capacitive...
The capacitive have better sensibility, but are less precise...
Although the Diamond LCD is not as sensitive as a capacitive, it's sensitive enough to work well with the fingers...
It's just a matter of tweaking.

Resistive screens use a grid of conductive material, sandwitched between the glass and a conductive layer. They alternatly pass an electrical current on each line of the grid along the x and y axis. When you press the screen you touch this grid onto the conductive layer and the current passes through it, which is detected. You can make resistive screen that have a very high resolution of detection, and the resolution is always what you design it to be.
Resistive screens are pressure sensative, and by design can't handle multi-touch.
Capacitive screens use glass coated with a conductive coating. The edges of the screen are connected to conducters. Each conducter has a different frequency oscilator connected.
The capacitance of a human finger changes the impedance of the screen, and so changes the frequency of the oscillator circuit. This gets converted to distance from each oscillator and so a co-ordinate.
The resolution is limited by how acuratly you can detect changes.
Typically in electronics very small changes are hard to measure because they are indistiguishable from noise.
Capacitive screens can handle multi-touch, but the resolution of each touch is decreased in that case.
Capacitive screen resolution is not absolute and can change with increased noise in the system, or by multiple capapcitive effects on the screen - like multiple touches.
Screen looks great. But I'm having two issues.
First, the screen feels kinda rough dragging my finger across. By comparison my Galaxy S phone and iPad are very smooth and glide with no resistance.
Is this normal, can it be improved?
Second, the screen seems unresponsive at times. I'll have to tap more than one to get it to recognize an action. Maybe it's just being slow.
Also the calibration seems to be a bit off. I often seem to be clicking items below what I tapped on. Not sure it's completely user error since I don't seem to be having this much trouble with my 4 inch Android phone.
PS. The phone is rooted with AutoNooter and using LauncherPro and Dolphin browser.

My screen is very smooth, and a little bit tacky... I'd prefer a less tacky, smoother feel, but it's okay.
Unresponsive I've not noticed really, but the calibration on the edges and/or corners is funky.. Like hitting the Search button in the market is hit and miss, otherwise other places I personally haven't seen any issues.
There's a thread on here / directions on nookdevs for how to recalibrate the screen. A lot of people have been reporting issues with the calibration on the edge of the screen. It doesn't bother me too much, so I haven't tried, but results are apparently quite good.
http://www.nookdevs.com/Recalibrate_the_NookColor_touch_screen
I've recalibrated the screen a few times. Even did the suggestion with placing the Nook face down for extreme sensitivity.
I still seem to be having the same problem where the touch is very unresponsive. It's most noticable browsing the web, I'll have to tap links multiple times before the browser does anything.
I'm wondering if I have a bad Nook or is this just how it is?
It could be the default browser. I had problems with unresponsive tapping as well but after switching to Dolphin Browser HD I havent really noticed them at all. However, it does seems like only certain apps or portions of them have problems with touch response...I can think of 2 off the top of my head..
1) The search icon in the Android Market. I have to really tap it hard or multiple times for it to open the search ability. Everything else in the market is a light, smooth, responsive tap, except the search ability.
2) ADW's settings menu, specifically the back button. Have to really hit it hard to work yet everything else works perfectly fine.
Maybe it's just me but I swear its only certain things which respond poorly to taps.
In regards to the screen being tacky, goto B&N and buy the Anti-Glare protective screen film. Make sure its the anti-glare one and not the regular screen protector. Not only will your fingers slide perfectly, but it also avoids all the annoying fingerprints the default glass seems to collect. Worth every penny. (You get 2 of them for 15 bucks)
I find that I have better luck ith a light touch & avoid a "tap". It took a bit of practice to know what part of my finger was actually making contact with the screen first & the reason for the perception that the screen was out of calibration.
I do have a problem with the center right area of the screen when playing crossword. Sometimes it is very hard to click on the rufgt side boxes. Interestingly, the same area of the screen is responsive in other apps.
Cheers,

I purchased the matte screen protector from them and it alleviated the tacky feel of the screen. Also resist oils and smudges so its a must have in my opinion.

I have the same problem at the very top edges of the screen. Pressing search in marketplace or a new tab in dolphin is really annoying. Requires many taps to work. Rest of screen seems to work fine. I did notice that the 2.2 Froyo was way worse for screen sensitivity. Maybe they can fix somehow with a firmware patch or something.
I have the same problem. Will try recalibrating later.

I don't think the market search button issue is a screen calibration issue. I initially thought there was an issue with the sensitivity/calibration in the top corner of the screen, but I have the same problem with market search when I am in portrait or landscape. Touching items in the same area of the screen in other apps is fine.
My screen is definitely more responsive after doing the commands.
I made sure to clean it completely with a microfiber cloth before running the commands.
As for the market search issue, it seems to have improved the sensitivity. In fact, to me it now feels as if I am getting the button push through, but it just takes time for the app to register it and take action (lag) and thus we think the button push did not go through and push it again...

A lot of the discussion on this thread is for locale based calibration, but I had the issue where if you hold still on a drag and drop, before dropping the thing you are holding is jittery, as thugh your finger was being jittery. This calibration fixed that problem.
Under the thought that this might happen again, would be nice if there was a way to run the command locally on the system without having to connect to adb to recalibrate.
Any ideas on how that could be done? I was thinking maybe scripted terminal commands?
Stock N7 16GB
I have always thought the touchscreen on my N7 was a bit jittery, but now I have come to realize the problem is far worse than I originally thought. For example:
Load a webpage
Place a finger on center of screen
Rest palm or other finger on left edge of screen
Display starts moving/pinch scaling like crazy, even if I remove any touch from left side of screen and keep only 1 finger on center screen.
Almost all the time the touch on my N7 jitters/moves around a bit which causes issues with swiping. If I place 1 finger in the middle of a web page, it moves around slightly even if my finger isn't moving.
I think for these reasons I will be returning this tablet.

I'm having issues with the screen too. For me, it seems worst when it boots up. my example was playing Angry Birds Space - I can't control it, then suddenly it releases and (if a bird with an action) performs the action. any known fixes?
i had same problem think i found a fix
I had same problems with my nexus 7 but it started after i installed dead triger i also noticed tablet dosint come with stock file manager so i installed the same game on my asus tf300 and noticed same issues on my nexus i did a factory reset and cant make screen get any dead spots hope this helps you out
I had that once the other day. I had to reboot it was so bad. Almost felt like the tablet was laggy. Hasn't happened again though.
I do have Dead Trigger installed as well, but I haven't played it in a long time.
Ok, so I thought I was having a touch sensitivity problem on my Nexus 4, because often a touch or a swipe would go unrecognized...
Then I realized I was noticing it especially in these two situations:
-Turning wifi slider switch on/off
-Swiping back to a previous tab in chrome
Turns out, what was going on was when I reached that far with the thumb, my palm was touching the curved edge of the screen, making it think I was already touching with a different finger. This "numbed" the screen from my intended touch until I shifted my hand slightly, releasing the unintended multi-touch situation. This made the issue seem sporadic.
I am not saying this is what all other people are experiencing, I am just putting it out there in case someone else is unknowingly doing the same thing. I could also imagine typing errors on the far side of the keyboard for people with certain hand shapes.
It seems almost unavoidable due to the thin bezel and rounded edge, but I would think problem could be avoided with some clever "palm touch near edge" recognition code, but until then I just have to get used to not gripping the phone so tight.
-copperwatt
I think that might be the case also. In some instances, it seems like I can't tap on the screen, but it can swipe and if I reposition my hand, it will work.
