Rooting has no effect on OTA so don't worry.
But the OTA might have effect on root (i.e. an OTA might "unroot" your device when it ships a complete replacement for the /system partition)

When the update is finally official, it will be shown in the software update app on our device, right? If we update then, will it keep root and all apps? Also messaging app manually installed(from optimus g)?

Root will be removed. Apps and settings stays intact. Don't know about messaging app. If you flashed it in system instead default app it will be removed I think, but if you installed it from apk file like any other app it will stay. I installed with method similar to hacked lg suite method and everything is in place and working ok.
Edit:
I forgot to say that my phone wasn’t rooted.

Since LG unlocked the boot loader Im sure you will still be able to root when the update is official.
Just got an update via OTA to fix the blank calls while charging.
After months of waiting and feedback(I've already given up on getting an update ) it finally got fixed,.
Any tested it? Android 4.0.3?
it was just a 12mb hotfix for the bug or at least thats what it said,i haven't tested it yet.
I tested it.it solves the issue.....and gea it is android 4.0.3 but another thing:
This might be mty imagination but the screen contrast looks better!somehow!

do you still have the blank screen while charging+getting a call bug? (on custom brightness)
if you don't have it then it means you got the update and I got it later,if you do have the bug then i think you have to wait.
I dont Know xp I dont get called a lot, so I don't have any idea if the bug exists...

doesn't any1 in your family have a phone? also when you test it make sure the screen is not on autobrigthness.
again my phone has HTC India as the carrier so i don't know whether they release the updates earlier for this CID and later for EU/others or not.

Hi,
I'm still on 10h firmware in the UK and there's no OTA update available for me. The LG Support Tool doesn't include the T-Mobile P880 in the list of Supported Models and even after installing the drivers 'succesfully' it won't update.
What's the best way to upgrade the phone? Am I missing something or do I need to flash the Euro Open KDZ?
Thanks
Simon

+1 this. Then root the phone, unlock the bootloader and install CyanogenMod to set your phone free
Another option is:
1. Download the latest KDZ ROM you want from this link: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=15, I recommend the first one (v20a euro open)
2. Install using KDZ method explained in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069723
3. Root the phone using this procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2180688
4 Unlock bootloader using this procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224020, use the second method (the one with the script).
Thanks, I've upgraded to 20a so will root and unlock bootloader later. Is there any value in doing a factory reset to clean up everything now I'm on JB?

Just read on Droid-life that the second update for LG G2 for Verizon has been approved. We aren't getting 4.3 just yet, but a few fixes. I was looking forward to fixing camera issues and that annoying jittery touch screen. Either way if you don't want to take a chance of losing root, tethering or/and if you have a custom recovery installed (TWRP and CWM) then you probably want to wait until the update get broken down so we can apply the update without losing ROOT or custom recovery.
I used Titanium Backup to FREEZE
"Software update MUC 6.4.1_B02-LG"
hit my blog for other LG G2 related stuff.

That's always the rule of thumb... ota = the devil. I always wait for rooted ota zips for any device. If you don't and you ota and lose root and your first born everyone will just say "Never ota. Hopefully they find a new exploit"

You can root and install custom recoveries now on 12B.
24A Kitkat is released too. So you'll want to root before updating because kitkat hasn't been rooted yet, on any device.

24A is posted in Verizon Dev.
I'm pretty sure 4.2.2 can be rooted. Its 4.4 that hasn't been rooted yet, on any device. The G2 is one of the lucky few because updates don't kill root.

So being that I have only had the g2 less than a month..and I'm not super familiar with adb, is there a better guide to get root on Verizon?
I have the root on any device, but can't get an adb window to "check devices"
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well you have to make sure the right driver is installed and adb drivers are good. Check USB Debugging. Put USB Connection to ETHERNET, do ADB DEVICES in a command prompt. You should get a popup on the phone asking permission to allow adb.
Pretty easy.

Nevermind. I got it. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
My Moto G 4G is still not showing the Lollipop update here in the UK even though some people seem to have it.
Does rooting have an effect as well?

If you are just rooted and haven't flashed a custom recovery then you should be able to get the update. If you are using a custom recovery then you will probably receive the OTA, but you won't be able to update until you are on a stock recovery.
