[Q] [help] access internal memory as mass storage? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
after lots of manipulations of my device, I've remarked that I lost some photos stored in the internal memory of the phone. Especially one photo is important for me...
The point is that I can not run any tool to recover deleted files on the internal memory, as it is not seen as a mass storage.
So... Is there any way to make the internal seen as a USB mass storage by my PC??
Thanks for your help.

Try this.
If that doesn't work, read here.

Well I already tried hexamob, but as the internal memory is not in mass storage state, it's impossible to scan...
Your other solution may work, but seems very very difficult...

Get the pro version for Hexamob & perform total recovery.
If you can't get the files you want, request a refund immediately, that's about all I can think of.
99% of the time Hexamob works.
If not, then the other method is your only option.

Two links you could try...

I'm curious to see if this works!
It would be quite impossible since Windows doesn't recognize ext4 partitions, but it's not my area of expertise anyway.

The pro version of hexamob acts weird... I don't know if it see well my internal memory... I cannot choose where to scan, and just 2 locations to save datas...
Gonna give a look to the other links, thanks!

I give up... Too bad, I will never see that picture of my children anymore... I'm a bit disapointed, but nothing works...

Allready tried to reformat it from the diamond? If this not work, perhaps this tool can help: http://flash-format.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
If both fails it is really dangerous to have a corrupt file-system on the diamond.

Thanks for the tip!
I traied to format whith the diamond but it says that its missing nand flash?
Take a look, if the internal storage has the same name as before. If not, perhaps you can rename it from the pc via active-sync. Good luck!
Nobody else with an idea about this? If nothing works for the threadstarter, this means: as soon as the FAT of your internal storage gets corrupt, (whyever) you have bricked your device more or less, (at least reduced the memory to a laughable tiny amount).
If this is the case, it can only be a very, very bad joke of HTC. It's like you have a big button in Windows Vista wich destroys your harddisk and nowhere is a warning sign or a safety-mechanism - that can't be true, or? (Its not a good example, cause you can exchange a PC's harddisk).
I think there are a lot of reasons, why a FAT can get corupted. (Tools on the PDA, sudden power-loss) and I'am wondering if no one here is a little bit concerned about this.
I've used the 2GB SD-card in my last PDA over a long period and during this, it was several times corrupted, so that I had to reformat it.
In the German PPC-Welt forum someone has posted the same issue, he returned his device, but this is only possible in the first two weeks, at least in Germany.
1. When you hard reset you have the option to format Internal Storage.
2. You have the option to format Internal Storage in Clear Storage in settings.

He can only format the storage, if it is found by the device. Obviousley this is not the case. Perhaps renaming helps. In this (German) thread, the same problem has been discussed: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=133023&highlight=fat32
Finaly ther user in this thread was able to format the storage but it was still not correctly recognized by his apps.
I hope the creator of this thread has more luck.

[Q] how to view internal memory on windows?

I have a program on windows that can recover deleted pictures from any drive. I think I had some pictures on my internal memory that I want to try to recover. How can I mount the internal memory as a drive on windows? I am s-off and have clockwork mod.
It would be easier to backup 'User data ' , re flash the rom you lost data from and restore user data, than to recover some lost data from internal memory unless u have a pre existing backup IMO ...
EDIT: everything you download form the net, take pics from cam etc etc are stored on external memory... ie SD card ... just fyi

i used ez file explorer with root permission. I moved it to /data or /.data not sure. Then I deleted it thinking I had moved it back to another sd card.
still looking for an answer to this :/
I see that clockworkmod lets you mount usb storage and you can see it on the pc. it also lets you mount /data..but you can't see it on the PC. Anyone know how I can contact the clokworkmod developer? I want to ask him if its possible to add the functionality i want.

Hi, if I understood you right, you can use MyphoneExplorer program to view the phone memory on Windows machine. Hope it helps you.
I guess My Phone Explorer can do the job for you.
Hello,
You can also try with Droid Explorer. It works for me.

[Q] Data Recovery from Internal Storage.

Hello there!
Due to some unprecedented events, I lost all the data from my internal storage and am now stumped. I do not have a clue as to how to recover my lost data. All I want to recover are some photos and a few backup files that I had. Has anyone successfully recovered data from the internal storage? If so, could you please guide me?
Thank you!
There's a couple apps mentioned in this thread.... But generally recovery of deleted files doesn't seem to work out a lot of times I'm afraid.

Ive had great results from this portable version of recuva, it can be ran from a usb drive. Not sure if it will detectvand scan your phone but its worth a shot.. mount it mtp and let me know please. https://www.piriform.com/recuva/features/portable-version
I had wiped the "userdata" using fastboot thinking it would only erase the app data files and not the internal memory. :/ I haven't overwritten the memory yet; looking for ways to recover. @doitinthedirt Will try that application you recommended, although I haven't had any success with the other apps I tried.
Well, it didn't detect my phone. However, it did a fine job showing me deleted files from my USB.

I have the same problem! I deleted a video file, and it´s so important. I´d tried some tools, but none can access to the internal memory of my Moto X... Some suggestion!!!????
Always transfer anything important to Drive, Dropbox or the pc or something regularly. Phones are not the best storage places for important things. Way to much can happen to a phone.
Just some advice. ?

If those apps don't work, you're out of luck unfortunately.
googled moto X data recovery this popped up don't know anything about it but looks promising
http://www.card-data-recovery.com/phone/moto-x-data-recovery.html
the first one I sent you Recuva worked awesome for recovering photos from my moms RAZR M data card pulled the data card out pluged it into a USB port and it found a lot of her photos that were already deleted.. that portable version works awesome you can use it on any computer run it from a thumb drive so you're not rewriting anything on the computer and you can recover the files to the thumb drive

[Q] free space disapeared

Hi,
On the first screens, i've no free space on the phone storage and i've about 3 or 4 apps that need just less than 1gb... What does mean the 4.31gb "other" ?
What can i do to fix that ?
As you can see, part of my application disapeared because of the way in the storage changed...
For example, when i take a picture it's located in storage/emulated/0/picture/screenshot and before it was simply picture/screenshot.
I tried to do a factory reset but nothing change after that...
Thanks in advance

It seems like you have just under 1GB of free space on phone storage.
I just went on HTC.com and here is the conversation about what Other is:

Under OTHER is stored all the system files, updates, cache, and information that the phone needs to work, it cannot be deleted unfortunately.
10:33:35 PM Customer Corey
Ok. Thank you very much that is all I needed to know.
It seems like there is nothing you can do to fix that.
Your applications disappeared because you moved them to the sdcard, but something else also happened or you just need to restart your phone so they will reappear. If you remove your sdcard after moving them to the sdcard, they can appear greyed out like that. There can also be a problem with your sdcard and that is why your apps appear like that and your pictures save on your phone.
Try to change your Primary storage by going into Settings-Storage-Primary storage and set it to Automatic switching. You may have to restart your phone.
I really think there is a problem with your sdcard, ranging from a minor problem all the way up to it is not working anymore.

First, thanks for your answer !
I know there were a part of "other" but this part was not more than about 2 gb before. I don't think the problem is my sd card cause the application i showed you on the screenshot are the only one i did not move ... For example, i had Hearthstone moved and it steel on my sd card.
The picrture was just an example, all my memory moved to emulated/0
And the same for settings/storage/primary is the same than ever
When i plugged my phone with usb to my computer, the internal storage were about 7.60 gb,... And look what i can see now
I can't download what i want with that...
All of that happen when i followed a tutorial to upgrade RAM with ROEHSOFT. I was needing to partition my EXTERNAL storage, what i did. I make a swap part about 3gb and the rest for the storage in fat32. After the partition, i had my 2 part but my internal storage change like what you see on these pictures. I think partition is now in my internal storage & that why the default internal storage way changed... But i have no idea to fix it... Can't use backup, can't part internal storage again, can't factory reset cause it has no effect after reboot...

I think you should delete the apps that are showing that they were on your sdcard then try to reinstall them. They should be in Settings-Apps.
I just looked up the ROEHSOFT RAM Expander (SWAP) app. I have never heard of this app before, but it had this as a note:
Note: only FAT32 Drives can be used for Swap. When you are using a Partition then use fat32 format or swap otherwise it will not be visible in the Drivelist!
It may not be working right because you need to use a FAT32 partition for the SWAP/RAM. If needed you can use Aparted to format the sdcard then use ROEHSOFT again to create SWAP. I found this tutorial. Is this how you did it or something different?

Where did you get CWM from? Did you use this recovery? As far as I know, there is no ROM for 64-bit, you cannot use the Cricket/Boost/etc. Those are just for 32-bit. There is a kernel.

Oh, ok, I didn't know that CWM was available for the 64-bit version. Thanks for that info.
As far as I know our ROMs are KitKat based, which only supports 32-bit devices. It will be good when Lollipop hits our devices as it supports 64-bit devices, but I'm not so sure if the ROMs that were built for 32-bit devices will work for a 64-bit device. You would have to ask the respective developers of those ROMs. My guess is no.

Question 12Gb of other in Storage Space

Hey, I am running out on free storage on my device, and I noticed that in the Storage Space section in settings it says that I have 12Gb used of "other". How can I identify what actually is taking that space and clean it? I manually looked in to all folders on my device and could not find anything that big to account for that.

I'll think your main storage consumption is in internal data.
Not rooted means you can't see them and can't delete them.
Seems some apps saved a lot of data.
I guess you've searched in internal storage and you've didn't found huge files....
Unrooted means also you can only delete complete apps to find out which are responsible.
