Not sure if I could find this info anywhere but does this device support USB storage mode out of the box for the 3 OS'es i've mentioned?
If not is this something the devs can cook into their roms? Already being done?
thanks. This is a very important feature since the device has no removable storage.
There is only MTP.

Is there any way to connect via usb as normal rather than as MTP on the NOTE. On MY SGS II I can connect the USB cable, and then from the drop down menu just select connect via USB and bingo both cards appear
I've looked in settings for USB connection but all i can find is the choice to swtich between MTP and PTP.
Which rom are you on ?
@Galaxy Note™…
why do you want to use uass storage mode? MTP is better in my opinion
Mass storage mode is quicker, so better if you are transferring large files.
I leave it as MTP most of the time though as you can still use the phone and access the files on the phone (except when you transfer a file and then it has to do a scan again).
If you are on GB, go into Settings>Applications>Development and enable USB debugging. It will then connect in mass storage mode.
If you are in ICS, Settings>More>USB Utilities>Connect storage to PC
how much faster? personally, safe removing the device in windows, and stopping of sd dependent applications cause too much trouble.
i usually use samba to copy files. which is even slower

So I've installed Mackay ROM 2.91 of kasper_h. It works like a bliss ( i'm new so I cannot post in development section ) till some time.
When I plugged in usb cable to my mobile and pc it showed on P970 to mountSDcard and then it popped in on my pc BUT later on it failed to do so. Now I can only mount my SDcard via card adapter or in recovery mode it shows removable disk but do not open it but if I press mount USB mass storage device it open my sdCard on my pc))
SO WHAT THE HELL, why isn't it mounting while using my phone in normal way, connected to PC? but only in recovery lol...
Anyone got the very same issue?
I've found androidforums. com /desire-tips-tricks/365476-guide-usb-brick-fix. html but do not know if it is good solution for it and even if I do not understand it at all>.>.
Go to settings/storage, press menu and select USB connection. There are 3 diferent types, mtp, camera and mass storage. Try the others.
I'm running the latest TWRP recovery on stock/unlocked/rooted (Sprint, if it matters). I know our devices don't have the USB Mass Storage option/functionality by default, and I certainly don't mind MTP for regular everyday usage. But obviously, when trying to mount USB storage in TWRP, it says this device doesn't have that capability. Any solution and/or workaround for that? With both of my previous devices, the E4GT and the Nexus S4G (which both used USB Mass Storage as opposed to MTP), the ability to mount to my PC from recovery was a lifesaver on more than one occasion. Any help would be appreciated.

what do you need to mount the sdcard for?
you can also mount it in adb or fastboot i believe if you need to. there are also programs that will let you mount it easy if you don't know how to mount it manually.

As far as I know, this is not possible due to the changes of how the external storage is handled within the operating system. On stock Rom with stock kernel you are limited to camera and media device.
Best wishes,
Christian
İ found to how can i do this. İt is possible with application and working for Samsung Galaxy S4 series. You need BusyBox and Root.
Download USB Mass Storage Enabler from here
Download BusyBox from here
Connect ur device with your usb cable
Open the USB Mass Storage Enabler and tap to Mass Storage Mode
and its that.
Yeap, BusyBox and SG USB Mass Storage Enabler will do that for you.
It worked for me on 4.2 and 4.3 ROMs, but it no longer works in KitKat. Haven't yet found a way to enable it in KK.
I Is it possible to mount the internal storage as USB Mass Storage device on the PC. I like to sync the memory to PC from time to time. It is important that the internal storage is mounted as a separate drive and not a portable device.

Yes, just select the USB notification you get when you connect it and instead of charging you can choose to mount it as a drive.

When I select File Transfer option, it mounts as a portable device and not with a drive letter. As a portable drive I am able to access the files but cannot do automated backups using many backup software. Need to mount with a drive letter.

There's a reason for that. Read this:

Alternatively, you could enable USB debugging and use ADB commands or something to back up device data.
If your rooted try USB mass storage enabler (UMS enabler v1.6). I have not tried it myself

Our phones CAN NEVER do USB Mass Storage, NO MATTER WHAT.
http://www.howtogeek.com/192732/android-usb-connections-explained-mtp-ptp-and-usb-mass-storage/
We use EXT4 or F2FS, but not FAT(16) or FAT32 anymore.
OP or Mods, please close this thread as answered.

Lol! My linux box can read any file system. The issue is that internal storage is part of data now.
That said usb mass storage drivers work fine. There is a virtual cd drive with drivers. Im just wondering what linux /dev that is on the phone so I can wipe it and cram something else in there… make a rescue boot out of my phone!

If you want to boot a distro or windows or even a UBCD type ISO from the phone, that's what DriveDroid is for.

I tried it. It doesnt work at all on my device (OnePlus 3T) and the interface blows badly, although I hacked my own APK that works great. No interface, just tap an ISO from anywhere.
