3 Dot Menu (GE) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How to get rid of this and use home or back button as menu without different kernel? Thanks Xda.

Right now, you don't.

Aww was hoping there'd be a way.. Htc should have included the option to switch like in sense since they put some sense things in GE anyways.. Smh.

you can. add qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1 to the end of your build.prob. youll loose the ability to map to another menu button unless you install a custom kernel. and also install the modaco toolkit to get the menu button in apps which have them mapped to the action bar

It's coming back in 4.2.2 if you are sticking with stock rom.

Buttons navigation for The new HTC One ?

The new HTC One has been released. However, only 2 visible button is presented. Home and back button. So do anyone know how the HTC One to access the other functions like "Multi-task" and "Menu" ? Is the "hTC" icon in the bottom of the phone also a functionable button?

From what I just read, double-tap on home brings up recent apps. Not sure about the menu though...it probably uses the 3-dot menu standard in ics and above.
If you ask me, I'd say they should've ditched the buttons or whatever they're called and just put some extra screen real estate and give us a software/onscreen navigation bar.

Double tapping home gives you the recent apps while holding down home will launch you to Google now. I'm not sure about the menu system. Its probably the 3 dot system like the above post.
Yes no one seems to know how to access the menu.
Access menu is the 3 dot on screen, just like htc one x

[Q] Long Press Back Button to Kill App

Since I have seen mods for long pressing the back button to call up the menu, I was wondering if any devs were working on a mod to kill the current app by long pressing the back button. Using the menu overflow 3 dot button is just fine for me, and really miss the kill app function from Jelly Bean on an old evo 4g.
Thanks!
AFAIK there are a few roms that have included back to kill
I've seen kernels with logo to menu or back to menu, but I haven't seen back to kill in any descriptions of roms or mods. I'm trying to avoid flashing a new rom, I only rooted to freeze the sprint id app through titanium. But for back to kill...

You can flash lp back to kill from this post. If you don't like it, you can flash lp back to menu from the same post. Thanks to Timberwolf671. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41327584

Menu button at bottom of screen

My girl just bought the One yesterday and I must say it is awesome. It is completely stock for the moment. My question is, is there any way to get rid of that three dot menu button that shows up in certain apps like Facebook? Thanks for any replies.

Go into the phone's Settings > Display, gestures and buttons > Back Button > select "Press for back, press and hold for menu". This will make the 3-dot menu at the bottom of Facebook disappear, along with other apps too. Your girlfriend will have to remember to long press the back button of course, to get into menu settings for apps like these.

I dont have the Back button in the settings. Running stock ROM, so for this custom ROM is needed?

Hmmm, this setting was on my pure stock ROM, I'm surprised it's not in yours? But yes, the stock based Sense ROMs in the dev section all have this setting built in by HTC.

This setting does exist in stock, to my knowledge and I've gone through about 4 different HTC Ones. It's custom only. Remember, the ROMs in the dev section are mostly based on stock with alot of modifications.

You meant to type "this setting doesn't exist in stock". You are correct, my apologies. I've flashed so many ROMs I lost track. I mistakenly thought it was in pure stock Sense.
@Rexton270, sorry for misleading info...one of the many dozens of reasons to go with custom. :victory:
You can also flash faux kernel which will set the HTC logo as the menu button. I find this a lot easier than having to hold the back key to open the menu.

Possible to remove on screen menu "icon" button?

Since I'm using bulletproof kernel (double tap htc log for menu) I do not need the on screen menu button. Anyone figured out how to remove to get back some screen real estate?

I am pretty sure the option to disable 3 dot is in the aroma installer when you install the BP kernel.
EDIT: Just checked again, Yes the option to disable 3 dot is there when your installing BP kernel.
Flash tranquil rls4 it has the option to remove 3 dot menu, as well as a ton more options.

MoDaCo was also able to get rid of the thing for me using the long-press back as menu option.

(REQUEST) hardware key button remapping mod

Does anyone know how to remap the harware buttons similar to what viper rom has as options? For instance long press back, home, and double press back and home. Also swipe up on home button. I would imagine that this is possible through smali edits in android.policy.jar but I don't know where or how at this point. If someone could help me I would really appreciate it. I love venom rom but I would like to atleast try out a few other options out there but I have found the remapping options with venom extremely had to give up.
Thanks, in advance

ViperOne can do this.

Nearly all of the custom roms and kernels for the One have remapping options. Are you trying to learn how to do this manually?
Also, the One only has capacitive back and home buttons, not hardware buttons like the Galaxy series.

No there are only a couple sense roms that have this option. As far as not being hardware buttons, it should be understood what I am referring to.
The only option that some kernels add is for HTC logo for menu

If you need to use the Volume to wake up your phone, you can use a custom ROM such as the latest version of Android Revolution HD. Also in this latest version, long pressing the home button acts as MENU.
If you need to assign a capacitive button to work as MENU you can use a custom Kernel such as Faux123. It gives you the option to use the HTC logo as MENU and to wake your phone using the Home button and Sleep using the long pressing the HTC logo.
If you need to use the Volume Keys to take pictures inside the camera app, you can use this mod
