I'm in the same boat. Nearly bought an 16gb off swappa for $110, but thought its best I just wait it out.
I played with the N7 and comparing it to my N4, I just wouldn't be happy with the performance the 1st gen N7 has.

I have owned mine for a little over an hour. Got the 16 GB model at staples (in-store). With coupon code.

I had to get a 32GB. I have a 16GB already but wanted more Space and a used 32GB still goes for ~$150-200 used. For a few bux more with code I get a NEW one. I got a buyer lined up for my 16GB so I recoup a little cost there. IF the rumors of the $300 price for the new N7 is true I think I'll keep the 1st Gen N7 until the 3rd Gen comes out. I still have a couple of Tegra games so having a non-Tegra device is a waste. I like to have options.

Where did you buy your nexus from? Is it 16 or 8GB? Just wondering how many people got flawless units from Google compared to stores. As my expierence has been terrible. The past three days i have been going back to stores (Walmart) and exchanging. The first one had a minor screen lift. Second one had the same issue + the screen would become unresponsive when hot, and now im without one.. waiting for a good batch to come in or waiting for money to travel outside my area. Anyways i wanted to see if it would be worth it to try buying straight from Google. Thanks.
8GB ordered on launch day.
C5OK batch.
8GB from Office Depot, first week of August.

I can't say mine is flawless, but it is devoid of most of the more popular problems for now. I guess it is comparatively flawless tho.
I ordered from the play store as there is no way I wanted to deal with Asus if there was a problem. C8OK.
16gb, from google. besides the slight dent on the corner from dropping it on concrete, its flawless.
No issues here Craigslist via GameStop

Play store. But took 3 tries. I've never seen one with screen lift though.(Actually a staples demo had it... glass well above trim) All three were balanced on both sides and well below the trim. Then again the second was squishy on the left.

I got a nearly flawless Nexus 7 on my second try from the Google Play store. The first one was creaky with screen lift. I RMA'd it. The second N7 has the tiniest bit of screen lift but it doesn't creak at all.

I have an 8gb WiFi model, and would like to upgrade.
I could get $55 from GameStop for it, although I will see if any friend would buy it for maybe $85.
Any ideas?
I will buy someones 8gb for $50 if its still in good shape. I have a feeling the price will plummet on the older versions once the new ones are released.
They are already selling for as low as $100 on swappa. I'd imagine they will drop further ones the 2nd gen is released.
Id def buy a 1st gen for $75 for my son to play with, to keep him off my 2nd gen of course. Our nook color isn't cutting it anymore.

I'm still on the fence about upgrading. I just bought my N7 about 2 weeks ago BNIB for pretty cheap so I'm a little late to the party.
Besides some QC issues the original N7 has been good to me so far

Phone is def priority, but if the N7 specs are true it will be a huge upgrade. Sure its still going to be vanilla android and do all the things your current N7 does, but it will be much much faster.
If I had a 1st gen I probably wouldn't upgrade either, besides a boast in specs, its not like the 2nd gen has any must have features over the 1st gen.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Given the price point, I'm liable to sell and upgrade.
Gonna keep, the n7 is so cheap you can't get much money for it.
if i sell my 32gb wifi i think i'll only get 120 euro's for it (payed 195 for it)
so if i upgrade (it's a big if, becausen i only got this one just a few months) i gonna give my old n7 away for free (proberly to my parents)
I have 2 I threw up for sale on Swappa last night
One is Brand new never used and the other is mine that is prestine. Asking $175 for either and got nothing yet.
Pity. I'm in no rush though.

You wouldn't make enough money back. The change from the old to the new isn't exactly warranted for the price. Isn't it 230? I paid 200 for mine and it's insured til 2015 of March.

I'd sell mine in a heartbeat if I could get $150 for it. I checked a couple places on Friday and the best price for "trade-in" was $65. I'm not giving it up for that.

Bought my N7 for £185. Sold it a month or so ago for £130 - before the announcement of a new N7 dented the resale value some more.
That's £50 to have a Nexus 7 for about a year which is a bargain.
Might buy a new N7, might not. My HTC One is fulfilling a lot of my app needs.
If I did buy another tablet it would probably be a 10" one.
I would sell it but not many people want the old one now that the new one has been released
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Don't consider that option, just do it. The Nexus tablets are better in every way imaginable. Besides, you'll have money left over and can buy a keyboard case or an additional warranty on your Nexus 7. Or go out to dinner, lol.

while i think the new N7 is a great deal, i think i'm going to skip this one. based on my usage of the first gen model, it still gets the job done. at their price point it certainly makes upgrading every year feasible, but i think i'm going to wait until v3 to upgrade again.
Nope, I'm not. (;
The only thing I'm jealous about the new one, is that it has a notification LED.. Except this, no need to upgrade...

that sucks that you had to go for the more expensive model
im certainly not disappointed in the nexus 5, but everyone has their own preferences. i think the n5 will be a better 'future proof' phone when compared to the moto g
i ordered my N5 the day it went live.. oct 31 .. 2 hours after it went live and the 16 gig was sold out.. so i went with the 32 gig also... happy i did tho 16 gigs aint much..
It's kind of weird though isn't it?
I ordered a 16gb Nexus 5 on monday and they were completely in stock. Checked back the next day and the Play store says out of inventory, rather than giving a wait time or anything?! And because I was worried this would affect my order I've been rechecking the play store religiously and every once in a while the 16gb comes back in stock but then you refresh the page and it goes away again.
Sorry you had to get the more expensive model. Thankfully my nexus 5 is shipping as we speak
I bought the black 32gb for that exact reason. With that said, I kept running out of space on my 16gb Moto G so I ain't that mad even though I had to spend an extra $50
