Hey all I need a bit of help, my XZ won't install apps from apk on the SD card.
The install from unknown sources is ticked, package installer opens but the install button won't work, the cancel button does!

No update available through the OTA. Don't have a pc available.
Dunno what happened I use to be able install apks, phone crashed so I factory reset and now I can't install the apps...

Oh otherwise I would have sent u an update to 4.2.2 but u would need an pc. Anyway seems strange. What exactly happens when u try to install an apk? Try taking the sd card out. Try downloading the apk u wanna install on to the phone without the sd card. Then try installing it. Let me know if that works.

Using explorer I go to the file, tap on it package installer comes up, tap install, installer opens with app details and permissions, try to tap install but the button doesn't highlight it's been pressed, nothing happens. Cancel button works fine

Could be an application you already installed is doing this.
Remove the apps one by one and try again.

If you have a screen related app like screen filter or voodoo colour filter, uninstall it.

Clear data for the Media Storage app:
Settings > Applications > Manage Apps > All
Scroll down to Media Storage
Select clear data
Try and install your apk.
If it still doesn't work, do the same for Package Installer.

Ok cleared data for Media Storage, no effect.
Cleared data for Package Installer, no effect.
Cleared data for a bunch of other apps with no effect other than losing all my ringtones and notification sounds
Unless I can figure out whats stopping the installation of apps from apk's i just might have to factory reset and start again to see which app it is thats causing these issues.
Thanks all for your help so far!
Ok guys thank you to everyone for helping me. I feel so freakin stupid right now... and rightly so.
I realised that "LUX" auto brightness app was the issue. head slap. Didnt even think of it as a screen related app. Another head slap.
I had stupidly deleted all the apps that trigger sleep mode in Lux's settings ... added package installer back to the list and everything works fine now.
Again a huge thank you to you all for helping and a big sorry for my stupidity.

try wiping dalvik cache from cwm.
it usually works.
after wipe, will take more time to boot, as the device rebuild dalvik cache.

Believe me, I faced this problem before, this problem happens when you use the Lucky Patcher to remove license verification and if you fail data folder get the power amp odex file, just delete it and reinstall.
Works again
Had to delete the obex file
Now I have another question, because I'm running cyanmobile, is it possible to control power amp via the statuabar music control? I know it works, but it just says unknown - :what:unknown

Just had same problem, after upgrading from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 (and yes, I had Lucky Patcher involved). Nothing helped (clearing dalvic cache, neither I had any suggested files to delete). The only thing helped - clearing Play Market app data! Hope this might help to someone.
I installed MX Video Player 1.6e and was going to upgrade it to the latest version of the software. So I uninstall MX Video Player and when I tried to install the latest version of MX Video Player, it say "Out of Space".
I did some reading up and there is a few post about deleting the odex file under Android/App/Data. However, there isn't any odex file in that folder. I even tried deleting the who Data folder and it does not solve the issue. Anyone has any idea where I can go to clean up the install file for MX Video Player?
Just where is the Android/App/Data folder ? I can't seem to find it.
Try deleting the app via Titanium Backup and also check if you are really out of storage space ?
The full path is mnt/sdcard/android/app/data.
The app has already been deleted so it is not showing up in Titanium Backup. I have double check the storage space and I got a good 1.1gb of space left.
So not really sure what to do from this point. I know that I can install the latest version of MX Video Player if I do a full wipe but I rather avoid doing this if I can.
Same problem here. Just can't install titanium backup and poweramp..

Don't do it! Stick to 1.6e as later versions have the DTS codec removed which sucks donkey balls.

You can also just remove the .odex file for the app you patched. It will be in /data/app/nameofapk.odex

Try the app "SD Maid"

A common error occurs to Android users when they attempt to use Google Play to download apps that says “Error Processing Purchase DF-BPA-09″. The error usually doesn’t allow users to download anything and the problem will reoccur with every attempt.
The following steps usually fix this problem.
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap Applications.
3. Select the All tab.
4. Locate and tap Google Services Framework.
5. Select the Clear data button.
6. Tap OK on the warning that appears.
Although you may not have to, try restarting the device, then try to use Google Play. You should now have no problem downloading apps.

Guys, pls help! I have Sony Xperia Z smartphone with Android 4.2.2 OS. Whenever I want to install some Android apk which is not from Google play store, a problem occurs. This is how I do it: I transfer Android apk from my computer to my sd card and then I locate it with Astro file manager, but when I start an installaton by pressing option "Install", nothing happens. It's just like that option "Install" is frozen. What confuses me the most is that I've already enabled the option "Unknown sources" (Allow installation of apps from sources other than the Play Store)
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thx!
If you are using any apps like Twilight that create a screen filter, then you need to deactivate them before installing an apk (or in the case of Twilight, activate the app filter in its settings).
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Now that truly is a strange issue. My suggestion Sony gave me when I called em up when I had a similar problem, back up your data and reset the phone. Simple as that.
Didn't read your last sentence.
Sent from my Xperia Z using XDA premium.
Have you tried putting them on internal memory instead of the SD card?
I have seen it where for whatever reason (usually the type of format that the SD card was done with), some APK's just will not install from the external SD ..
Also, maybe try a different file manager than Astro ...
What apps are you trying to install? if all else fails at least try putting file in system/app then reboot phone
