I'm getting bored waiting for O2 in the UK for the Android 4.2.2 update, I have rooted. I don't want to put a custom ROM on it though, I just want over the air updates straight from HTC and not my carrier.
Thanks!

Hi,
Is it true, that phones with a custom recovery don't get OTA updates?

They don't get updares by the manufacturer but custom ROM get updated way faster. There are tools which can download these via OTA.

Well, I don't have a custom ROM, I just unlocked the bootloader of my HTC One and installed a custom recovery to get root.

You can re-install stock recovery, which i believe will allow OTA updates again.
OK, I see. I used the all-in-one kit to unlock my phone and install a custom recovery. So I thought I could just flash the stock recovery using the kit as well... But where would I get the stock recovery?

Actually the phones with custom recovery still get OTA updates as long as still using stock ROM.

Correct! But you still need stock recovery to install the update.
You are driving me crazy... So what good is it to receive the updates if I can't install them?
OK, so I still need stock recovery. So the question remains, how so I get the stock recovery?

Sorry If it's not the right place to ask for this.. How do people usually get their hands on RUU files? Are they officially released by carriers or device manufacturers?
It would be awesome to find that RUU so that going back to stock would be very easy. I don't currently have a problem on HTC__001 4.2.2 but you never know.
They are usually leaked, might take a very long time to get the ruu for your carrier

So I have a custom ROM installed on my HTC one it is the 4.3 Google edition ROM. This morning I received a notification saying "system update downloaded. Touch to install" would it be safe to install it?

Yeah. The update is from google.
Thank you I just did it. There doesn't seem to be anything different it was on 4.3 and it upgraded to 4.3

Perhaps. I heard another person's phone got unrooted or relocked bootloader? I doubt it because google developer edition is supposed to be unlocked and unrooted?

Hey! My cousin just got an htc one (second hand) from someone, and it turns out to be an unlocked sprint model. Now the problem is that the software is stuck at 4.1.2 as the firmware option has been replaced by UICC unlock as the phone is unlocked...
The phone itself is rooted and it has s-off
Thanks!

that is the problem, we don't know that :-/
is there anyway i could identify whether it is carrier unlocked?
Since you 're s-off and rooted you can always flash a rom based on newer version with Sprint support.
