Need help updating phone - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey! My cousin just got an htc one (second hand) from someone, and it turns out to be an unlocked sprint model. Now the problem is that the software is stuck at 4.1.2 as the firmware option has been replaced by UICC unlock as the phone is unlocked...
The phone itself is rooted and it has s-off
Thanks!

Do you rely on a carrier unlock?

that is the problem, we don't know that :-/
is there anyway i could identify whether it is carrier unlocked?

Since you 're s-off and rooted you can always flash a rom based on newer version with Sprint support.

Cheers, I figured it would be. Its been awhile since I have seen a decent phone locked to any Telco and I suppose its also because of how easy it is to unlcok them.
The reason I ask is because I have obtained a second GS3 4G and I will be selling it so I needed to know if its unlocked before I off load it. Id prefer to leave the phone sealed in the box,
I would try mine but 1. I dont have a foreign sim to try it on. 2. its already rooted and had a custom rom installed so there is a good chance that would have unlocked it.

They usually come factory unlocked. But no it doesn't. Need to be. I have a HTC phone locked to optus and I change ROM all the time

Good news!!!

Does s-off and sim-unlock reset after flashing new rom?

So I finally S-off'ed my HTC Vivid and then unlocked the sim card. I have a question, will the s-off or sim unlock reset if I flash a new rom?

[Q] Turn AT&T One into unlocked dev edition?

Would this be possible to do? And if so, If I flashed all the stock firmware from the Dev edition, would it be possible to recieve ota updates from HTC?

Will flashing magically turn your ONE into a 64gb model?

You have to consider that point.
I would say flashing firmware from the 64gb version will brick the 32. Again I'm pulling on experience from my s3 and flashing firmware from the 32gb onto my 16gb.

This is plain wrong
The storage has nothing to do with the os. Android automatically adjusts for the capacity

I can't see, atleast from a hardware standpoint, why this wouldn't work, but I am not experienced enough with android to know for certain.

How do I get updates from the oem instead of the carrier?

I'm getting bored waiting for O2 in the UK for the Android 4.2.2 update, I have rooted. I don't want to put a custom ROM on it though, I just want over the air updates straight from HTC and not my carrier.
Thanks!

Unfortunately you will have to use HTC Dev to unlock and root to use rumrunner. I haven't seen any other way but try looking for a way to root without unlocking.

1) The warranty isn't voided by unlocking.
2) You can unlock via HTC Dev then S-OFF using Rumrunner and change everything back to stock if needs be... HTC will never know

They shouldn't but don't take my word for it! I remember reading something like that.
When I had a One X I unlocked it via HTC dev and I could hand it in for warranty. (Wouldn't turn on).
On the other hand rumrunner shouldn't alert HTC that your device has been unlocked.
