Hello all. I just updated to 4.2.2. Seems now I can't use the Google keyboard anymore.
The option to switch away from the sense 5 keyboard is gone.
Anyone else experienced this? Thanks guys.

Yep, this has happened to me too. Can't switch to the Google Keyboard.
I've just had the 4.2.2 update as well and I also cannot revert to the Google Keyboard. I'm stuck with this stupid sense keyboard!

PLEASE?! thanks!
Does anyone know how i can put the white multi touch keyboard on my sgs and wherebi can download it? Idk how to install via cwm. I tried using
that to install something else and it pretty much messed up my phone and i had to reinstall the rom. Thanks.
Might get some more bites if you listed the name of the keyboard you want.
Grrrr... I forgot which one it was! It was all white. And i rhink it was titled as an android keyboard. Maybe a droid x ordroid 2 keyboard?

Ooops, hit thanks, instead of quote.
By the way, search for 2.3 gingerbread keyboard on these forums. This is very similar to android 2.1 keyboard, only better. I too am a fan of 2.1 android keyboard, well, until i came across the 2.3 keyboard.
I want to use it, but i serously hate HATE that it doesnt vibrate on keypress

I think a small compromise is needed. Try using "better keyboard" to see if that can provide u some temp relief while some dev tries to figure this out.

I want to get the HTC keyboard on my NS as I am used to it on my Desire HD, I have tried the same file and method as you do with the Nexus One but I always get a force close error when I try to select the new input method.
Am I doing something wrong or do i need a different file to install
http://postkreative.eu/HTC_IME_hi22.apk
i prefer stock keyboard over HTC_IME.. it doesnt have multi touch :\
either that or. http://www.appbrain.com/app/smart-keyboard-pro/net.cdeguet.smartkeyboardpro
Free: http://www.appbrain.com/app/smart-keyboard-trial/net.cdeguet.smartkeyboardtrial
Smart keyboard has a HTC_IME skin that looks like HTC but includes multitouch capabilities. Try it out.
That worked great thanxks
Do you have to buy smart keyboard? Is the free one only a trial?

Copied from the app description:
This is the trial version of "Smart Keyboard PRO" (it has the same features but with a nag screen)
Don't forget to READ the FAQ on the web site for usage instructions
I am using the HTC keyboard on my Nexus S and it works great but every now and again the text text that appears above the keys that shows you what you are typing does not come up so I have to kill the keyboard.
Anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks

Possibly go find a version for it thats compatible for 2.3.X.
The link I sent you before is 2.2.X but it does work. Most people have moved onto better keyboards because HTC IME is missing the multitouch keyboard feature.
@Borky: Your post doesn't help. The OP already has the keyboard and your keyboard thread hasn't been updated since October. So I doubt its the newer version.
HTC Sense is also not running 2.3.X (yet!) so unless you can port the keyboard from the sense 2.3 leak.... no luck

Like I said, use Smart Keyboard Pro and the HTC skin over it. It's practically the same thing but more accurate and supports multi-touch!
May I also ask where I can find the HTC handwriting input for Nexus S as well?
can anyone post any working htc-ime keyboard because everything i have found force closes for me..using ics
anyone guys?
I am on HTC Vivid. I tried updating to ICS to only realize that it failed. I see the new keyboard for ICS the Google Voice Typing. Does anyone know where that is installed on the device of ICS so i can try to pull it off and use it on my Vivid. would be excellent.

Also, realize you want the google keyboard but swype also offers a beta that has a voice option. Just google swype beta and it will pop up.
Swype is a decent app but I ended up going back to the stock keyboard as it is more functional..some prefer swype I guess..

I have bigger fingers so it makes it hard for me to tap away at the keyboard. I am much faster swyping.
I have big hands also and the dang space bar is the most frustrating thing on the keyboard...always hitting the period instead of space bar...it needs to be wider..

I agree. The keyboard on the Inspire was perfect...and it was .2 inches smaller of a screen and included a directional arrows.
And to answer the original question most of what the OP is asking about I would think would be in HTC_IME.apk
I have just had the update to 4.2.2 installed on my HTC one and I can't seem to set my keyboard to the Google stock keyboard. I have reinstalled it but it doesnt seem to be available as an option under keyboard and languages. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

It's a known issue unfortunately and seems to be due to the CID of your device.
Hopefully google will sort this out.

It doesn't affect all CID's?
Currently the 4.2.2 update is downloading on my phone so just collecting some info. Have read that Swiftkey seems to be broken especially in the mail app as well.
HTC's way of making me stick with the Sense keyboard...sheesh

Apparently not.... I had the issue on a GE rom with CID HTC__001, switched the CID to 11111111 and it worked.
I think it's a google problem not HTC.
This is not good. I just started getting used to my favorite keyboard and all.

I had a bunch of issues with the Google keyboard on Sense ROMs. Perhaps they disabled it because the keyboard has a bug?

If that was the case it would be nice if they told us about it!
Tweeted HTC UK and Google.. no reply haha.
Any news on this yet. Tried installing swiftkey keyboard now and I can't even get that to work.
Can't change from the sense keyboard at all. God this is annoying. First android device I can think of that I can't do as I wish with the keyboard.
They need to fix this.

Tried a few of them. None of them worked

The reason that it doesn't work on some devices is because Google keyboard is only officially released to the US. If you have s-off, change your cid to 11111111, or CWS__001. If you don't have s-off, you can attempt to turn off security just to get the keyboard, but s-off is serious business, so make sure you read up on it. And if your device has hboot 1.54, I reccomend looking for a new keyboard.
Also, this is not a bug, it is the way Google intended the keyboard to act.

I've searched Google and these forums to try and find a solution my problem, the following app;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.inputmethod.latin
I loved this keyboard however i can't add any custom words now. I even factory reset my phone to see if this would work. It doesn't. I'm on my s4 (i9505) and prefer it to stock keyboard. Any ideas how I can get it to work? Or what I could change. No custom words will be saved. At all! Slightly annoying!
Thanks
Ben
