4.2.2 Update disabling Google keyboard - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just had the update to 4.2.2 installed on my HTC one and I can't seem to set my keyboard to the Google stock keyboard. I have reinstalled it but it doesnt seem to be available as an option under keyboard and languages. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

It's a known issue unfortunately and seems to be due to the CID of your device.
Hopefully google will sort this out.

It doesn't affect all CID's?
Currently the 4.2.2 update is downloading on my phone so just collecting some info. Have read that Swiftkey seems to be broken especially in the mail app as well.
HTC's way of making me stick with the Sense keyboard...sheesh

Apparently not.... I had the issue on a GE rom with CID HTC__001, switched the CID to 11111111 and it worked.
I think it's a google problem not HTC.

This is not good. I just started getting used to my favorite keyboard and all.

same here in germany. really annoying. not found a solution yet. trying out swiftkey trial and hope the issue will be resolved through the next update.

disappointed this hasn't been fixed yet.

Try this apk. It works for me brilliant !
Note: The app is from thread at XDA but I cannot find it now.

I had a bunch of issues with the Google keyboard on Sense ROMs. Perhaps they disabled it because the keyboard has a bug?

If that was the case it would be nice if they told us about it!
Tweeted HTC UK and Google.. no reply haha.

Any news on this yet. Tried installing swiftkey keyboard now and I can't even get that to work.
Can't change from the sense keyboard at all. God this is annoying. First android device I can think of that I can't do as I wish with the keyboard.
They need to fix this.

Is it all flashable zips? My wifes HTC One is not rooted
Tried a few of them. None of them worked

The reason that it doesn't work on some devices is because Google keyboard is only officially released to the US. If you have s-off, change your cid to 11111111, or CWS__001. If you don't have s-off, you can attempt to turn off security just to get the keyboard, but s-off is serious business, so make sure you read up on it. And if your device has hboot 1.54, I reccomend looking for a new keyboard.
Also, this is not a bug, it is the way Google intended the keyboard to act.

HTC FLASHLIGHT.apk

I've looked through just about every forum and have tried google search. I've downloaded HTC Flashlight apk, but it will not turn on the Nexus LED. Do anyone have a hacked HTC Flashlight apk that will work on the stock unrooted FRG83D rom? If this has been answered before then sorry for the posting.

That will only work with Sense roms. Search the market for "Flashlight No Root" by mobbeel.
Thanks for the response. I'd honestly rather the HTC apk.

Well it won't work. The app relies on a kernel call that only works with certain kernels. The HTC app only works with Sense ROMs. If you have a stock ROM then you need an app that works with it.
Sorry.

Maps App Crashing and Hot Rebooting Some Custom ROMs

well, as i have going around, i have been noticing that some of us guys have been having issues with the latest Two versions of Google Maps.
I have Tested it on at least 3 rooms and the problem is consistent ... so me and few other mates have come to the conclusion that the problem is with the app itself. not the rom.
if you have Experience this.
what i have done to fix it i just downgraded to a good working version of Google maps.. IE: Maps 6.9.2v or 6.9.0v these work great.
Hopefully the Devs at google are working on this!!!!
If anybody has a different idea or better imput as to how and why this is happening please feel free to share..

System/app is locked even when rooted

Unlocked and rooted my wife's first today. Tried to greenify Google Maps and couldn't because it's a system app. So I tried to make it a user app in titanium backup and... Couldn't. Nor could I delete it. So it looks like the system folder is locked even for root users. Apparently it's a kernel level lock. Any ideas for how to greenify Google Maps?

I agree. I tried to change some things on the "system" level and was not able to. I reached out to nuclear_eclipse and he confirmed that we needed the kernel source before we could go any further.

Gettin' back to Android after a 6 month hiatus, and it would be GREAT to see you develop for this phone. It's a pretty solid, even if not flagship, piece of hardware. It's really a shame it's being canned so quickly; it's a fantastic mid-range phone. Not on par with your One, of course, but I love it.
Anyone ever find a solution for this?
I'd really like to replace the clock with the one from 4.2.

If you S-Off your device you'll be able to. I have the 4.2 clock, camera, and gallery on mine. Or if your bootloader is unlocked and you're rooted you can flash the .zips of the 4.2 camera and clock through cwm and disable the 4.1 clock and camera under settings>apps. Thats the way I did it before S-Off.
If you decide against S-Off and would like the .zips, let me know and I'd be happy to give you links to them.

i thought quick reply for messaging was a CM feature?
I'm wondering if perhaps we can expect to see a system dump from the "Google Edition" release, or perhaps an unofficial release of the STABLE CM 10.1; seeing as how the Sprint variant of the HTC One, received a nightly, as of yesterday.
I'm just hopeful that we'll have a more fully-functional version of Android 4.2.2.

Maybe for messaging, but Notification actions in general:
Expandable, actionable notifications.
Android has always put you in control when it comes to staying notified and connected. Just swipe down from the top of the screen to see all your notifications in one place. Late for a meeting or missed a call? Take action in an instant directly from the notifications shade.

Some of these don't apply, and some have been implemented by HTC already, but anyway for reference.

Ya seems to me to be pointless to buy the nexus experience One if you are a current owner and can just flash a "dump"
I just don't know if I can do without Zoe and the IR blaster. I have tortured so many peeps with the IR blaster and the TV/cable box at their houses or hotels it has been priceless!!!

Though I doubt the Google version of the one will have Zoe, I imagine it will use the ir blaster. I don't think they're changing anything physically on the phone so itd be a little odd if they didn't include that functionality.

I never really cared for LS widgets on AOSP. But if you really want, you will be able to delete the HTC lockscreen and use the AOSP one that has the widgets. So it's not like they are completely gone.
