[Q] HTC One Charging time and Battery - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys ! I have read many complains about the charging time of the HTC One, but they were a long time ago.... before the 4.2.2 update. So are the things now different ? How much time does it take to charge from 1-8% to 100% ? My HTC One X takes around 3:30 hours, which is alful. And some people tell me that the One charges 5-6 hours ??? Is this possible ? I mean that is alful ! Also is there someone comming from HOX to tell me if the battery is much improved ? Thanks !

4.1.2 charging time from almost empty to 90% takes ~3 hours, from 90% to 99% takes another ~ 30 minutes and from 99% to 100% another ~30 minutes.
4.2.2 charging time from almost empty to 90% takes ~2 hours, from 90% to 99% takes another ~ 20 minutes and from 99% to 100% another ~10 minutes.

Charging times are very dependant of how many amps (A) the charger is outputting. If we are talking about the standard 1A charger that comes with the One, then it doesn't take anywhere near 5-6 hours from 0-100. Maybe a couple hours at most, but thats all.
It also depends on how much the phone is being used while charging. I was successfully able to fully drain my Galaxy Nexus while plugged into a charger.
I don't have any complaints about the charge times (even coming from an iPhone). I usually charge it for the measly 3-6 hours I sleep, but even if I wake up in the middle of the night, it seems to have charged significantly from what it was.

Thanks for the info guys ! What did HTC do to improve the charging time ? Is Qualcomm's quickcharge now enabled ? And also can I use a charger higher than 1A ? Or it will damage my phone ? Thanks again !
EDIT: Oh and also can I game on the phone while it is charging or it will overheat ? Thats what my One X is doing

Guys it takes my phone 2.5 hr to charge from 0-100 %
Am on 4.3 sense 5.5 STOCK.
Is it too much or normal???

[Q] CM (and others?) battery meter complete screw-up

My battery never charges above ~76% when plugged in. After rebooting however, it is very much at 100% and lasts for a good amount of time. This is not necessarily a question, but I wonder if others are experiencing this too and if there is a fix? Read below.
I noticed that my battery life got very bad after installing custom roms. I also found out that this happened because I sometimes kept the phone plugged in while flashing, something that totally screws up the battery reading. So, I followed this guide to calibrate my battery and it worked.
Now, whenever the phone is plugged in it NEVER goes to 100% when charging. Maybe 80% if leaving it for a while (10 hours overnight). I'm worried about frying the battery. Is there a fix?
It is only a matter of presentation. It actually doesn't mean your batt is broken. Plug it and charge it overnight. Then discharge only for few percent and plug it back in. It should go to 100%.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
What I'm concerned about is if the phone "thinks" the battery isn't recharged and keeps squeezing juice into it when in fact it is full (which a reboot will show)? That's not good for the battery. It should go into trickle charge after reaching 100%..
The process described in the desire forum is also known as formatting the battery. In fact most of battery manufacturers (lithium battery manufacturers) recommend doing this in a slightly different way:
Before first use:
1.) Before powering the device on, plug it in and let it charge until the LED is green (fully charged)
2.) Then take the battery out of the device and wait an hour (to make sure all the chemical processes in the battery are as idle as possible)
3.) Then plug it back in, while still off and let it charge untill green LED
4.) use the device....
You can practice this slightly modified with first step being:
Discharge the battery (by normal use)until only few percent are left (1 - 5 % are OK)
I've done these steps with my Mugen extended battery and I was getting around 4 - 5 days on Legend, now I'm getting 2 - 3 days on Desire S, but the ROM isn't very optimized yet, I believe it will be better in time...
Just one thing... Why is this in Development!?
No Idea.....
can mods move this?

Definitely did not solve it but at least the battery performance is ok. It just stays at 78% for a few hours drops from there. Very weird but as long as the battery doesn't get broken I guess it's ok.
Do you have some 3rd party battery installed in your Legend? I have one 1,5 Ah in mine and it is acting the same way. It doesn't bother me too much coz it was cheap... it lasts 48 hrs with data always on and moderate usage. I noticed this that when I charge it overnight and it reaches 80%, unplugging it stays at 80% for several hrs and just after it starts dropping if I plug it again, meter reaches 100%. It's weird but as I said I can live with that
I've got exactly the same issue with stock 2.2 ROM. I've never rooted or CM my phone; I was wondering if CM would do it, but doesn't look like it.
android forums /htc-legend/265545-battery-doesnt-fully-charge.html
(sorry, I can't post links; maybe an admin can fix the link for me?
This seems to indicate it's a phone hardware fault and requires a new Legend to fix! My big worry is, as stated, that the charging light never goes green; therefore is pumping lots of power into a potentially full battery.

[Q] Major battery / charging issue!

Hello XDA Community.
I bought an HTC One off of eBay, and I've been using it for 3 days now (I had a VZW HTC One before but the restrictions from VZW were annoying, let alone the updates that come after 6+ months). I did notice a problem, which is a major issue, since I depend on my phone a lot in my everyday life. The problem is this: The battery seems to lose charge normally at 100% til' 80%, then faster at 80% to 50% and within an hour or maybe less of little to no use, the phone goes to 40-30% percent and then goes from 30% to 20% in seconds, 20% to 15% or 13% in less than 10 seconds, and basically goes from 40% or 30% to 0% in a minute or two (sometimes even 30 seconds or so). It is driving me crazy.
I have been watching the phone, and I noticed something really strange, which made me suspicious of this being a software problem.
I charge the phone and by the time it goes at around 30% (30 or 31 yesterday, 36 today) it just shows the battery without the charging indication (no green filling in the battery, it just shows an empty battery and said percentages). When I unplug and plug back in the phone continues charging, but at a 76 to 80% charge. I would really appreciate some help, and thank you in advance.

Hello my friend. I bought a battery replacement off of eBay and I will go to an expert to change it for me, as soon as possible. I will let you know if the problem is fixed, or if it insists.

Battery life

Hello guys i have bought a note 8 from 7 days and i have Seen that battery percentual decrease quickly. In the morning after some minutes with only display unlock i loose 5%.
Is this normal?
Thank you
Dude dont charge your phone to 100% over and over all the night. You cant remplace easily the battery. Dont worry about your battery drain, I thinks is ok. Normally we got 6-7 hours of screen on time, so if you only lose 5% in 30 min... it mean you can get around 10 hours!

I charge my phone on a wireless charger base overnight and it stops charging when at 100% and no problems! Anyway, if you read the latest thoughts on charging, keeping the battery over 60% is best and no damage will be done by over night charging!

The best for a litium battery is stay in 40-60 percent. Charging more than 80% will also damage your battery life (but sooo much less than let it drain to 0%). Charging over night isnt good for a battery (at least I think it). Check AccuBattery, is a very nice app to battery management. And when you hit the 100% it stops, but will run again because you wont get a 99% while the phone are in the pad. Hope I help you ^^
Do you monitor your data? You could have some apps working in the background and using both your data and battery. Install a data monitor app to check which apps use your data.
I get 1.5 to 2.5 % drain per hour in idle, gps wifi and data off, aod on, sometimes even 0.9% per hour overnight

Question Battery drain issues

Hi guys,
I keep having weird battery behaviour which led me to believe, that the battery is not properly calibrated:
When charged to 100%, the phone usually stays at 100% for a few hours depending on usage. Around 40% however it keeps dropping 1% every 2-3 seconds until after a few minutes it is drained completely and switches off.
Did anyone else notice that kind of behaviour? (Some guys on Reddit are facing the same issues)
And does anyone know a fix except waiting for a custom rom?
Thanks and all the best.

Same here, I didn't notice the battery after 40% but the phone stays at 100% for a really long time, I played Honkai Impact at max setting and it still manages to stay at 100% for an hour, mb it's software issue, I'm on 12.5.7 Global btw.
I didn't experienced that kind of issue. 12.5.13.0 EEA here.
you have to calibrate the battery.
- discharge the battery until the phone turns off
- with a slow charger (10 / 25w) charge the mobile OFF
- once it reaches 100% (1-2 hrs) wait another 2 hours.
- Power up and test.
This method usually solves this problem, it is important to use a slow charger and only use the 120w one when it is really necessary. It seems that some batteries have not been properly calibrated

Thanks, I'll try to do that with a slow charger.
After it reached 100% still keep the phone on charge for the next two hours or just wait two hours to power up?

For me viper4android it's much better if you use wired headphones. I tried to use Dolby but it's not the same.
I'm on 12.5.13.0 EEA, same problem. Phone stay at 100% for hours, then when power dropped to 35-30% weird thing happened, it keeps dropping 1% every 2-3 seconds until after a few minutes it is drained completely and switches off.
Then it takes 5-10 minutes to start again
I will try to calibrate the battery tonight
Hi, I was facing a similar issue.
I have used 3 chargers. 120W (stock), 10W (samsung), 65W (Anker). I was worried about my battery life, so decided to ditch the 120W charger which was also not giving me a good enough battery life, considering its a 5000 mah phone.
Im not paid by anker or something, but I saw a major difference between SOT compared with stock and samsung charger as well. I dont know why this is working out so well, but im getting 7+Hrs SOT easily, on heavy usage. AndI have been getting consistent results from the past week since i switched to anker. I genuinely dont know why or how this is working. But if it works, it works.
Im assuming due to the 120W quick charge, the battery calibration gets messed up. But idk how to explain the longer duration of SOT on the anker charger.
Ps. I dont use 5G

yes, I don't think you are very far from the problem. I also think that charging the mobile at 120w spoils the calibration of the battery so I use it only at specific times. I use a standard 15w charger (approx 2hrs)
3 days later It looks like calibration sorted my issues. Now battery behaves as is should.
So calibration is very recommended if battery plays up
I recently purchased this cell phone, and I am experiencing this problem. I have disabled almost everything, and uninstalled blotware. Should I calibrate the battery to improve battery drain?

Please read my reply in this thread, that will extend the battery drastically.
im facing this problem with this phone as well but also something else: after the battery drops to 18-20% it then discharges very very quickly to a point where in a matter of 5-10 minutes of use it's down to 0%. is this normal or is it another one of those side effects that their trashy fraudulent scamming xiaomi battery measurement causes?
will another rom fix these issues or are we stuck with them in this phone i rapidly regret getting?
I'm also facing the same issue, below 25% to 0% it drains like a liquid, I attached the screen record

mine got fixed (at least for now) by calibrating the battery (leave it to discharge and turn off - try to turn on again until it wont - charge to 100% with phone off) i'll see how long this lasts and update
Ya i did it for now it is fixed might be a temporary fix. I'll post here if it happens again
Same problem at first month, 100 - 99 became shorter and shorter while charging cycle increasing.

Question Slow charging with Google Photos backup enabled instead of Xiaomi's

Hello everybody.
I'm using MIUI 13 with Android 11. I used to fully charge my phone from 15-20% to 100% in about 90-100 minutes, back when we had Xiaomi's backup in the Gallery app. But since february, when Xiaomi disabled photos backup for my country (that was different in every zone of the world) and I was forced to use Google's, a full charge from 15-20% to 100, it's taking 120-150 minutes!!! It's ridiculous. I believe Google starts creating a backup when I start charning the phone, but even after the backup was created, which takes about 15-20 minutes, the charging is still extremely slow. I'm charging my phone right now. It's been 1 hour and 23 minutes and it went from 15 to 47%. Before the Google Photos change, by this time, the battery was aroud 85-90%. So the charging speed it's like half than it was before.
I wouldn't like to stop using Google Photo's backup altogether but this charging time it's ridiculous.. Anybody else is having this issue??
I'm not using the original charger because if I do that, the battery drains considerably faster. I'm using a charger compatible with QC Fast Charge 3, which makes the phone shows a "Fast charge" message and it is like a middle speed charge. Full charge with this charger takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes, with the original charger it would take about 1 hour, and with a regular charger takes 3 hours minimum.
Thanks.
your battery has been degraded, maybe you should change your habits charging your phone.

That's ridiculous. The phone is only 5 months old and I'm charging it every 3 or 4 days.
I disabled the backup from Google Photos, I only gave Google Photos access to my Gallery app and now the charging is fast like before. The battery is suddenly not "degraded" anymore. How about that??
good for you then, that's just my guess assuming that you charge your phone until 100%

That's what I always did with my Redmi 4X for almost 5 years and it's still working, but battery barely last a day now. That myth about charging the phone to 85% maximum it's really stupid. 99% of people buys a new phone every 2-3 years tops anyway. Why sacrifice your phone's autonomy for a little more battery longevity?? It's pointless.
