Battery drains quickly... while plugged in! wtf?!

okay so this is a new problem... if I plug my tilt in to my car charger, the battery actually drains faster than if it's unplugged... about a percentage a minute... when I come home and plug it... it charges regularly. I've tried 2 different roms, 3 different radios and 2 different car chargers... any ideas? been doing a lot of soft resets lately, wondering if that would burn the battery out?

okay so after my car charger "drains" my battery... I put the regular charger in and charge it from 74% to 85% in about 20 minutes... then I took the battery out and put it back in.. upon reboot my battery is at 97%... does this mean the car charger is somehow ACTUALLY charging the battery but for some reason making the phone think it's discharging it... this is tricky.

is the battery heating up while it is charging in the car?

I don't think so... I'm not 100% but I'd probabally remember something liek that
I just remember it was dropping like crazy after I plugged it in.. once it jumped from 39% to 34% when I was using it while it was plugged in for 4 minutes

sorry, should have asked in my first post but are you running TomTom or similar?

no, no abnormal software... even turned off the 3g and wifi... I'm starting to think it's not actual battery drainage because of how fast it's dying.... it dropped to 2% and shut itself off last night when I plugged it in.. took 5 minutes to go from 28% to "dead" then when I was charging it in my house that night it slowly went from 0% to 45% then it jumped to 98% and was full.. I'm so confused

Maybe let the battery drain out all the way so the phone won't even turn on, and then charge it back up. I've never heard of this happening before, but I know the phone has to "calibrate" the battery, for lack of a better word. Draining the battery all the way lets the phone set a "zero point". I dunno if it will help, but it would be worth a try.

haha it kinda did that on it's own last night... recharged it, it's got the same problem as of 20 minutes ago.. maybe it'll work itself out.... but I really need to be able to plug it into my car.

This is my second Tilt I'm playing with as the first one after I messed around with started to act funny.
1) Battery would be 100% - I wake up 6 hours later and it's dead.
2) Network consistently was being dropped even though it stated I was connected.
I've spend 5 hours on this site reading now and still don't know if I've learned much lol

Check the USB port. Is it slightly bent on the right side? I had this same problem & had to RMA. I confirmed that there was higher discharge using SK Tools & Anton Tomov Batery Meter. However, home charger still worked fine.

YES! the usb port looks a little messed up on the very last pin.. WTF? it looks squished or something... RMA? that doesn't sound good.. I hope I dont have to RMA... what's RMA? but yes there is definately something messed up about the right side of the USB port

Hmm... I would charge to 100% (or near enough) unplug it and then put the media player on and play it solid on repeat until the battery dies. Then charge it up to full again and see if there is any difference. These batteries don't have a memory as such, but as the previous poster said it may have got itself slightly 'confused'

Same problem here with a carcomm cradle for the TyTN II,. When I plug my phone in, the orange light comes on, the phone says it is charging but the battery just seems to drain faster and after a couple of minutes the light goes out. I have BatteryStatus installed, when I connect the phone to my pc with the standard usb/synch cable BatteryStatus shows +0mW for a short while and after a few seconds it'll say it's at +1300mW or something like that.
In the car when I put the phone in the cradle it'll show +0mW for a few seconds, then around -250mW (Idle) and the orange light turns off...
But I actually caught it charging once with +22mW when turning it on (from standby). I tried all obvious things, softresetting the phone while charging etc. But nothing helps, the cradle is connected straight to the carbattery.

check your USB port... is your's messed up too?? you know what? I probabally accidently poked the stylus in mine while trying to reset a couple days ago... since I tried to do 20 resets when I was rom upgrading and adding software...

Just checked and yes it is, stylus thing happened to me also once....
It's a little bend downwards (when having the screen on top) @ the last 2 pins...

well looks like we've narrowed down the problem.. and it looks like the fix is gonna cost $80!!

What kind of carcharger do you have? Been reading about this problem and alot of ppl say the charger needs to be able to put out at least 1A for the phone to charge, I used some cheap cigarettelighter charger that was rated @ 650mA. It worked but charged so slowly that it would've taken days to fully charge. And besides that it didn't last long, 3 days before it blew the fuse and some more parts (worked for 2 secs after replacing the fuse)

I've tried several different ones... I think that since 3 people on this site all seem to have a "crushed" pin in our USB ports that's probabally the issue... now.. about a fix...

The amperage on your charger doesn't really matter. 1 amp is recommended so that you can use the device while charging, and the rate at which the battery charges does not diminish. If you used a 500mA charger, and had wi-fi & gps on, and media player blasting, for example, the battery may not charge at all because all the power coming from the charger is being used immediately. 1 amp chargers remedy this problem. Hope this makes sense, I've been having problems finding the correct words to express my ideas lately. Probably just stressed out! It sounds like the bent pin on the usb port may be resulting in a V+ pin shorting to ground (or V-). Which would drain the battery quickly. When you use battery power or charge the battery, it is normal for the battery to get warm. When you plug yours into the car charger (the one that drains it) does the battery get abnormally hot? This would indicate a short. Maybe try to put a real thin piece of film or something under the bent part of the port to insulate it while charging and see if that fixes it. This might offer a temporary fix until you get a new port. Maybe you could spend some time learning how to solder! I had to fix a broken port on a wizard a those solder points are friggin' tiny. Hope I could help. Good luck.

this sounds like it makes a lot of sense... I've got big clumsy hands, man I wish I had been more careful... well looks like I'm gonna be out $80! but quick question.. why would the wall charger operate normally while the car charger reverses charge?

Xperia X1 dead?

I am currently having problems with my X1 powering on.
I understand there has been a post on the forums regarding this subject I have read through it the symptoms of my phone are similar but I wanted to make sure.
The problem I have is 2 days ago my phone was low on batt so I plugged it into the charger [MBW bluetooth watch wall mount to USB]. Left it there and the next day I noticed the battery is completely drained. Try to power it on and red lights go on at the power button.
I've looked up on how to fix the problems followed the procedures and still no luck. Now the thing that is slightly different with my phone is sometimes the red lights are on at the power switch... but sometimes the red lights blink on the phones side LED's I understand the side LED's also blink to show low battery / errors.... so thats the part which is making me worry.
I was wondering if anyone had any insight to the problem or maybe possible solutions?

did you leave the batt really low? and what methods have you tried so far?
because what happened is that you probably unbalanced your battery (if I'm understanding correctly). I've had a similar problem as well with my previous x1.
just wondering though, you didn't do any mods to your ROM did you? if you didn't. you may be able to send the phone back to sony ericsson (if it's under warrenty) to replace it to get a new one.
just as a suggestion if you end up getting a new x1 or just a new battery that works. don't leave it until it's almost out to charge it. charge it maybe once a day or every other day (ensuring that your battery wont' die on you again).

Clean conductors
Charge battery in wall mount .... pull out the battery place it back in charge again and hope it works [apparently some ppl pulled it off] tried for 2 days.

Yup it was one of the TouchFlo ROMs
I've ordered another battery but until then I'm still open to opinions on solutions.
Also does it mean anything if it randomly switchs from a red light on the power button to the LED on the sides flashing red.

Another thing you can try is one of the cheap $2 USB Pocket Universal Li-Ion Chargers - they aren't as sensitive as the X1 itself is, and since you can take the battery out of the X1 for charging it's a safer way to charge a problem battery like this one seems to be at the moment. If you have a spare battery anyway, then you'd want an external charger anyway to charge it without having to take off the case and change batteries every time. Also since it's USB it is low voltage and low amperage.
I had the same problem with the Red light below the button being on - and leaving the battery in one of these chargers for about 10 minutes had it charged enough that it worked with no problems again when I put it back in my X1 and I've been using the same battery ever since without a problem (for about a month now).

P.S. The "MBW bluetooth watch wall mount to USB charger" you were using might not have a high enough amperage for the X1 to charge well and that might be part of the problem. The X1's original USB charger is 700 mA, which is beyond the spec of the average USB wall plug (some of which are as low as 150-300 mA). Not getting enough amps at the proper voltage can cause the sorts of problems you are reporting. Using the actual X1 charger might help as well - though I still recommend the cheap $2 Universal USB Li-Ion chargers for emergencies.

[Q] 0% Battery + no charge

Hi all
This is my first thread - although I have been on xda many many years. I have searched the forums before posting this.
This morning whilst travelling to work by car I decided to recharge my Note (which was at 0% due to the previous day of use). I unplugged my Galaxy S2 and plugged the charger into the Note.
The Note would not take any charge from this USB car charger.
Now I know that the charger outputs 1000mA and that it was pumping 750mA into the S2 literally moments before.
I had started to think that the Note was bricked as the low battery and a yellow triangle were the only thing that the display would show, however, I could force the device to boot into Recovery mode (Redpill says the batt % in the corner - it stayed at 0%).
I tried a battery pull. I tried getting the device to reboot system from Recovery and I also tried wiping the battery stats.
The only fix I found was when I plugged it into a 1000mA AC charger.
Has anybody else had this problem? It could be quite an inconvenience if one were to run out of juice (ie 0%) whilst on the move, expecting to be able to charge from the car usb charger...

Use Original charger and charge for 1 hour. do not try to turn it on. then try to turn ON.

Hi. I got it to work eventually using an AC charger but my point was - has anybody else experienced this inability to recharge when at 0% and with only a USB charger or car charger available.
Samsungs recognise when they are plugged into AC Mains or USB don't they. Could there bee something in this that we may have to tweak, within a script during boot?

I think it may be something to do with the juice it requires to get the initial kick from 0%... perhaps it will only take charge from AC in these .

I got this when i flowed all juice to 0%. I've used only genuine wall adapter / charger and got that triangle + ! too.. I just let it be that way and fired up Note few mins after that. Then it started to charge..

Yes, other users have faced this issue. It is not uncommon and has been in various posts over the last few months. As mentioned - use original charger and leave phone turned off for an hour or so - this will kick start it.
I had same problem with Blackberry bold - once below 5% would not charge unless I turned screen off and waited for at least 30 minutes.
I know this sounds all very well in hindsight, but I never let my phone drop below 20% - always charge it around that time. I still get around 2 days on average use but refuse to let it go any lower than that.
Would also recommend purchasing a second battery in case - with a separate charger.

Opened bike race when the screen froze while opening the game (dark screen).
Pulled the battery but when I boot the screen goes on after 3 secs, stays on for 2 secs then goes into dim mode (i can see it's still on).
However my phone doesn't boot since I don't get any whatsapp messages. Normally it should boot to SIM screen but other apps should run.
X+power or M+power doesn't change much.
I'm guessing mobo/cpu fail.... any ideas?

If you put the battery flat on a table does in spin well. Batteries bulge when they are done. The better the spin the worse it is. It's odd the behaviour that can happen with a end of life battery

Well now I'm not so sure what it is.
When I put the cable in without battery the M logo appeared and then the charge screen with a ? in the battery (because there was none)
Then I put the battery in and it started charging.
After a while I tried to turn it on but same problem - just a black screen when power it, no logo whatsoever.
Now I can't get it to work without battery either...
edit: I don't think it can be the battery, because the screen stays on (it has power apparently) and it doens't work with cable connected either
But I also don't see it being the screen as it never vibrates like it does when you boot it.
How did it just show the charge screen before and now it doesn't??

So, it may be that you just need a good battery pack in order to get to Recovery/Bootloader/Fastboot etc. if the phone will not start or start to Safestrap.

Ye, except my phone doesn't even show the motorola logo, and I can't even get to the bootloader menu
edit: and it doesn't explain why I was able to get to the charge screen without battery at first, but not now

Right now I'm having the same problem, I could enter safetrap for now (after 10 attempts)

The worst part is using my Samsung Jet "Smarter than a smartphone". Which isn't even close to a smartphone because it doesn't have any of the OSes = no apps

In my XT860 in its power when it reaches the lockscreen, restarts or shuts.
When I put it to charge my battery shows 0% and charging. When I go to Safestrap-after several attempts-, battery shows 99% or sometimes 80%.
I think the cpu wants to leave the world of technology :crying:
edit: yeah, now i get infinite bootloops in the M DualCore LOL

Well at least yours sounds like a software issue. Just wipe

No, I can not turn it on, I can not enter bptools, I can not use RSD, nothing! Just lucky I managed to get a few seconds to safestrap

I tried the stock cable that came with my phone (USB) but nothing happens. Screen doesn't even go on.
The light next to the microUSB does go on.
But my phone has never booted with USB (0.5A). When my battery was 0% I always needed a socket charger because it wouldn't go on and charge with USB
When I then insert battery and try again with stock cable same happens as in the video

Ah I see. Well I'm not in the US so getting one would be a PITA
I'm gonna try my spare battery (original battery) tomorrow. It that doesn't work it must be hardware related because I haven't flashed or done anything to it so it's not softbricked or something.
edit: it team blackhat do send to europe? How would this be different from trying another (working) battery?

Try cutting a USB cable open, hook the red wire to the + of the battery and - to the black and let it charge that way. Also, do you have any MicroUSB charger? I have one for a BB Bold I used to have that delivers I think 1.25A and it could charge my phone from dead (obviously not now with the flex cable having a rip in it).

The little light next to the USB port is the 'It's still alive" light that Moto put in when the battery is completely dead. It's to let you know that the phone *is* charging, just not high enough to boot the phone (i.e. when you let the battery completely die).
WHY they did not make it a standard charging light (like the D1 and D2) I don't know, but that's the only time it comes on. A quick flicker on USB plugin, or when the battery is dead. The light goes out when it gets enough power to boot up.

Well, it's not charging because there's no battery , the light it still on
I really dont see how its the battery because when I put it in without cable the screen turns on and stays on for as long as I keep the battery in. So it HAS power. Today I'm getting my spare battery and we'll see I guess..... don't have my hopes up

My daughters D3 was doing the same thing,me being not ready to dig into a phone yet ,took to a local repair shop, they checked it out and found it had a bad LCD,should get back Friday, sorry for the bad news,just thought you would like some insight.

Thanks. But should it turn on when the LCD is bad? It doesn't even boot else It would vibrate once.
Can anyone confirm that the phone should boot when I remove the LCD alltogether? Else it might be a bad LCD or loose connector

Xperia SP wont respond (no flashing problem or root problem)

Hello my Xperia Sp just run out of battery and shut down.I pluged it in saw the sony logo and when i tried to turn it on it would not respond.
The only thing it did was kept the red light on (indicating charging).I tried pressing the off button for over 30 seconds with no results. Not it is stuck and i cant do anything about that.
Help please.

Nevermind the problem got fixed by itself.
The battery (about 2 % run out and the phone kinda reseted itself.It opened just fine.
So if anyone else gets this problem just let your battery drain itself.

Just to confirm you plugged it into a mains supply? USB from your computer to phone charging is not enough to kick start a totally dead battery.
If you have plugged it in to a wall socket and it still doesn't work, give it some time.
I think the battery and the phone's software combine to stop the phone operating at unsafe voltages, the safe operating range for a standard lithium ion batteries is 3.2-4.2 volts (though android may be different). They spend most of their time at 3.7 volts though and this is why they are described as such when you buy them separately.
If, for some reason your phone's software thinks your battery is at 3.1 volts, it won't do anything until it thinks it's at 3.2. Similarly if a protected battery is taken below 3.2 volts it won't provide any power until it hits its minimum voltage. In theory your phone should have cut out before the protection cut in, but bad stuff happens to good people.
Sometimes a protected battery gets drained so much that the tiny flow of electricty required to power the protection circuit stops and as the ultimate failsafe, protected batteries stop working when this circuit is not functioning.
(I'm talking about standard batteries here, not necessarily phone ones)
Sometimes cheap basic chargers won't be able to get such batteries working, but better chargers are able to send tiny trickles to a battery to start the protection circuit and make such batteries charge again. I'd be very surprised if android didn't take this into account and have some way of ensuring over-discharged batteries with a tripped protection circuit can be charged. That said I'm not sure whether the protection is all software on mobile phones?
Like I say give it some time - getting that first .1 of a volt can take a while when the battery is totally flat. If it hasn't changed after at least 2 hours then I'd worry.

I think the battery and the phone's software combine to stop the phone operating at unsafe voltages, the safe operating range for a standard lithium ion batteries is 3.2-4.2 volts (though android may be different). They spend most of their time at 3.7 volts though and this is why they are described as such when you buy them separately.
If, for some reason your phone's software thinks your battery is at 3.1 volts, it won't do anything until it thinks it's at 3.2. Similarly if a protected battery is taken below 3.2 volts it won't provide any power until it hits its minimum voltage. In theory your phone should have cut out before the protection cut in, but bad stuff happens to good people.
Sometimes a protected battery gets drained so much that the tiny flow of electricty required to power the protection circuit stops and as the ultimate failsafe, protected batteries stop working when this circuit is not functioning.
(I'm talking about standard batteries here, not necessarily phone ones)
Sometimes cheap basic chargers won't be able to get such batteries working, but better chargers are able to send tiny trickles to a battery to start the protection circuit and make such batteries charge again. I'd be very surprised if android didn't take this into account and have some way of ensuring over-discharged batteries with a tripped protection circuit can be charged. That said I'm not sure whether the protection is all software on mobile phones?

The phone was pluged in the wall socket.After this i tried to turn it on (while pluged) nothing happened so i unpluged it to press the off button (i upluged it because i could not reach the button because i had the case on) but the red light ( at the bottom of the device indicating charging) did not turn of.So i tried to reset the device by pressing the off button but i waited for almost 30 seconds (while pressing it) and nothing ... not even a vibration.So i left the phone away with the light stick on till the 1 % left was drained and the phone shut down due to lack of power.
So then i pluged it back in to the wall socket and it started charging again and so i turned the device on.This time it responed and opened up .Now nothing is wrong

It happened again.... i dont know the problem but the solution was the same...

You left the phone in the charger to drain or not? If i put the charger off then red light isn't opened..
Also, how many hours did you wait?

It took about half an hour because of the battery level being low.

Guys im having the same problem.. anyone who can help will be appreciated.
