Resize Safestrap ROM Slots? - Motorola Droid 4

I'm currently running CM 10.1.2 in rom slot 1 as my only rom. Unfortunately I don't think the 2 gb data partition I created at the beginning is going to be enough for much longer... does anybody know a good way to deal with this? Is there a way to resize a partition after creating it?

I don't believe you can resize the partition after creating it. What you can do is back up your CM slot, delete the slot, recreate it with a larger data partition, and then restore your CM backup.

That makes sense... thanks kwyrt!

Is there any disadvantage creating a rom slot like it can lessen the lifespan of phone's internal memory?

Hi,
can you please tell me exactly how to do this type of backup?
Thanks,

Just boot in to safestrap, select "Backup", select where you want to save it, name it, then slide the toggle and it will back up your current ROM slot. Piece of cake.

Necro-ing to say this worked for me. Thanks kwyrt.
I didn't even realize I made a small slot until I went for months fighting against space limitations, wondering why DiskUsage wasn't recognizing all of my internal storage. Slot1 has been such a daily (read: only) driver that I didn't even think about safestrap's slot partitioning.

Phone reboots on installation of ANY app!!

I know it sounds weird. But, It is really happening with me. I tried to google but didn't find proper solution. Neither I'm expecting here. But, Any suggestions though?
PS: I already DID restore my nandroid backup.. But, Its the UOT kitchen what I'm doubting. Does anyone know how to see a log before my phone rebooted? It might help.
I experienced this too back then in CM7.2. Do you use link2sd or similar app? If so, try removing them and clean your init.d folder. And then clear dalvik cache.

I am using CM7.2 already! and yes I have created sd-ext of 1GB and moved all apps via S2E.
But, the problem with this is, clearing my dalvik-cache from CWM Recovery clears my whole sd-ext partition!
I too faced this problem when i had.over 120 apps and was using s2e...i suugest u switch to link2sd ...

Then try to reinstall everything.. Backup with Titanium, clean S2E and scripts (or reflash ROM), restore fron Titanium, then apply S2E again.

I have roughly 130 apps installed currently. I used Jusada's ICS Final before my current ROM - CM7.2 by FrozenAce Team. The reason I switch to this ROM is, I had uncertain bootloops in previous ROM. It was really unusual experience for me. I put the phone in my pocket and when I get it out, its in bootloop. Anyway, I'm thinking to switch on "Ace of Spades V2- performance".
What my questions are:
1) Are you using Link2SD? Is it really as effective as S2E?
2) When I run batch to restore all user apps + data from SDcard, Is it really fast in moving apps and creating soft links?

No, I'm not using any scripts. I'm not on custom kernel.

Well, to be honest that would be pointless. I have already restored Nandroid backup which doesn't have this problem. But what I'm concern about is, I restored it 3rd time in last 4 days cause of this problem. Now, sometimes I even hesitate while installing a new app.
By the way, I'm seriously doubting on S2E now. I suspect Dragonoid is right. Does anyone using S2E have similar problem?
I also face this problem sometimes... dont know why!!

Yes, I had this problem with S2E.
I never get Link2SD to work, but it's actually great if you can get it to work, because you can select which app should go to SD and which app in /data. Some app like launcher, social, and instant messaging apps usually performs better in internal memory

This problem started when I partitioned my sd card 8gb class2
So phone started lagging a lot
And reboots on app install and uninstall... I had used s2e
Only solution I came across is buy
A faster SD card or don't partition it
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
This problem is pretty common,
The way i did it:
If you partitioned using desktop remove the partition format the SD so its back to factory Then insert it into the phone so the phone recognizes it again, then after that partition the SD card again.
If you did it through CWM, Then Format the EXT and the sd card, but make sure you have backed it up first.
Hope this helped.

When you say it is slow, you mean launching and using apps is slow? Or the linking/moving process?
I'm also thinking about using one of these 2 apps, so i'm interested in the answers you will get here

What class is your sdcard? It might be that the card itself is slow?
You have the same problem when you install apps directly on the sdcard?
Sorry to post more questions than answers, but I really wanted to try it, but if it slows down apps, maybe, I will try something else.

Ok, but do you which class it is?
It should be written inside a circle on your card.
Class 10 is really fast, for example. But if you have a class 4 card, or less, that could be what slows down apps.
Btw I prefer Link2SD because I can choose which apps can go to the SD Card

Maybe that is why it is slower than on your internal memory.
Did you notice the same slow down when you simply move apps on SD, the "classic" way?
By the way, I installed Link2sd yesterday, with an ext4 partition on a class 10 card, and it seems to work fine for now.
Only weird thing I noticed : with the rom I use, link2sd was unable to install the mounting script if i selected ext4 as a partition type.
When I selected ext3, it worked. I read that some roms have trouble with ext4, and others with ext3, but I didn't think I could mount a ext4 formatted partition as an ext3.
I'm using link2sd with a class 10 sdcard and there still are no lags...Everything smooth and fast (Rom: CyanogenMod7.2 RC1 by vo-1 MIRACLE Edition V4)

Link2sd is the best for me. I am using link2sd about 3 months and I can say that's the best. But if you dont think like that, you can try app2sd or s2e.

A little update.
After one day of use, I managed to have my sd-ext partition messed up.
It could only be mounted read-only.
I had to reinstall everything.
So maybe I will try some alternatives like a2sd.
For those who tried these apps, which partition type do you recommand? fat? ext2, 3, or 4?
I'm using Link2sd. DT A2SD is buggy to me. Link2sd works great on CM9 beta 8 with my Sandisk 8GB Micro SDHC Class 6

I was never aware that AOSP Roms were corrupting storage. You had to format your storage?
Or do you mean the whole 4.1 > 4.2 thing? Where a 0 folder would be created?
This is what your looking for.

[Q] Increasing Swap file (partition size) with CM 10.1

Has anyone tried increasing their swap file size? I am sure there is a way for me to do this (it is a linux system). I was wondering if I could do this from SS3.05 or should I mess with the swapper app I just recently found? Thanks in advance.

I made a swap partition on sd card and mounted it using init.d script, for the long run it would not help in terms of lag.

So no gains really by doing this at all then. I notice CM 10.1 is rather laggy. CM 9 ran the best on this phone. As my D4 on the other hand it ran like a beast!!!!

Is the camera stable in any roms? New or old.

I have a touchpad that is still running CM9 and the camera doesn't work with it. I would like to give it to my mom so she can Tango with our daughter while she is out of town. Can anyone advise on which rom is most stable specifically for using the camera?
Thanks in advance!

Do I need to resize the partitions with that one? I've seen some threads for the new roms require new partition sizes.

Not a problem! Yes you will need to resize some partition, but not to the extent that is being done for the data media builds (CM10.2, CM11). When you do the install, just select a higher /system allocation (I think 500 or 600 mb). The other partitions should stay the same.
