The other case in the picture is a sedio surface for scale.
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=261248376245
I just got one of these shipped from California. It seems pretty decent. It is water tight. I tested it in the sink.
The screen works through the case but none of the side buttons are accessible. The home button and capacitive buttons work fine.
The headphone and micro-usb are also closed off.
The screen protector and gasket are one piece of silicone and kind of rubbery feeling when you use the touch screen.
Definitely an improvement over two ziplock bags.
I'll do some more testing and report back if it kills my phone.

Not clear if you can place Note 2 w/SURFACE case inside of this waterproof case? Just thinking if it will survive a drop inside of this case if you place the phone naked. For example, in my review of waterproof bag (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364060) I wouldn't put a phone as is, but rather with Tough or TPU cases to survive a minor drop.

Just the phone itself. The case is molded to fit.

In your opinion, will it survive a drop? How about if there is any room to put a driver license, atm/credit card, and maybe a few bills (facing back of the phone)?

Its probably better protected from a drop than the surface case would do.
There's no room for anything else in there.

Post a video of it being submersed in the sink or container and fully working

Ok. Took it for a swim. It's very water resistant but not water proof. After about 30 minutes in the waves with no more than 4 feet of immersion I got a tiny trace of moisture. No damage.

Rather than a case to waterproof the phone, has anyone used liquipel (or other similar products/services)?
I just cracked my screen, so when I order the replacement through insurance I would like to send the new replacement phone to one of these places and have them treat it to become waterproof. This way I still have access to a phone and can get it shipped processed and returned before I'm forced to send in my broke phone to the insurance company.
Before I pay to have my phone treated, I want to confirm that it actually works since the one company I've been looking at has a whole warning page about what to do if your phone gets wet...The point of getting it done is to be able to do nothing when the phone gets wet (seems to me that's what I would be paying them for).
I've seen a video with a note 2 treated to become waterproof. They submerge the phone in a bowl of water while the screen was on and it seems to work (other than a precise or responsive touchscreen while submerged which is to be expected).
I'm a bit confused though with how it had no issue with the battery connection. Even with a waterproof battery and phone, I have a hard time believing that water all around this area would not have an effect on the phone...but I'm really not sure as it maybe due to a cell battery may not produce an electrical current strong enough for water to be a conductor.

Rugged case for the XDA

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has come across a protective case for the XDA. The sort of thing I want is rubber not leather............
any ideas
Thanks
I saw some in an outdoor shop and will probably get myself one as soon as I can find the time to go there again.
They were meant to be used for digital cameras or portable audio players I think. They were at least rainproof, (one even claimed to be submergible!) I think they would provide the shelter required for carrying the device around in everyday use. The only problem is that you'll have to get the XDA out of the case to actually use it.
Martin
Thanks
Hi Martin, thanks for the reply.
I have found a case similar to what you have described at www.ruggedpeak.com. they seam a little expensive bur probably cheaper than a new XDA !!
XDA Hard Case
O2 sell a hard case for the XDA - It's a metal case lined with foam, that clips over the XDA and makes it pretty much shock proof - I have one, and it's GREAT!

what if i have the external battery? do they make one that fit such a thicker device? i LOVE the way this case looks... alot nicer than that other aluminum case i found on ebay.

I think this page might help, there is a phone number there for you to cal, lifetime warranty as well I think.

Hi people Ive found a cheap and very strong case for our device.
See this link here http://www.outdoortrends.de/index.html?d_DE_39622_700_Deuter_Handytasche_Phone_Case_M6646.htm
Ive used the s model(antanna hanging out) for 1 year but its a tight fit thus heavy pulling of the zip every time to close it and it has survived a year of this treatment and still not a tear and only some paint came off the zipper.
They now have the M model which fits the Xda perfectly totally enclosing it. It offers no protection but the thing I like about this case is I can wear it horizontally on my belt with the screen facing inward and thats very comfortable.
If you see it in an outdoor store give it a try its cheap enought
Hey guys...i bought a similar case on ebay... Similar to This. The concept was great, it is lined with a nice padded feltish. materal but the closing latch did a huge number on my phone. Luckily (Ironicly) my screen $hit the bed, and T-Mo is replacing the phone for me.. My words of advice, find out what their return policy is on the merchandise and if you don't like it see if you could exchange it for something different. I didn't do that and I am stuck with my case
I would be willing to sell it for $25 (buyer pays shipping) to someone that deoesn't have paint on their XDA. I didn't like it because I like my stuff always looking new. anyone interested PM me.
is that the case which doesnt have button holes and covers the whole phone with the airel sticking out the hole at the top.
i had one of these on my 1st xda and ti made a horrible mark near my ariel and the catch scuffed up all the side and it kept popping open and all.
the PROPORTA one is a hell of a lot better that kept my 64mb XDA mint as and still looks mint today not a scrach on it just fingerprtints all over the screen and sides lol.
get the proporta one much better then that other metal case.
gaz
I totaly agree the Proporta case is a little gem they on eBay I expect thats where I picked mine up from

Invisible Shield

Anybody have an invisible shield installed on their Droid 3? I just got mine in the mail today and i tried putting it on but the corners on the back keep popping up...I really dont want to pull it up and try to reinstall because I already ran out of the solution they gave me and had to use some leftover from my Touch Pro2's install kit. Any advice is helpful Thanks
Yes I had the same problem. I think I fixed it by starting at one corner of the phone, holding it down for a few seconds and slowly moving all over the outer edge. There are a few spots that curl up but it looks good.
It sucks, I think it took me an hour to get it how I felt comfortable it would not peel off.
Just keep working at it. It feels like they rushed production and it does not fit the phone the correct way.
Sent from my DROID3
yeah for all my other phones the corners were cut so the side flap folded down and the top flap had an extra edge so u could fold it up and wrap the extra peice around the corner. it looks like this one the corners are just rounded...i tried the 'palming' method and it's working but still peels up after a while. I'm trying to be patient but it's still rather annoying.
If you ran out of the solution you can just fill it up with water, the manual says up to 3 times or so. Its just soap and water.

Wow, that's crazy haha. I guess I should practice reading the manuals more, after doing it so many times I just take out the plastic and start going to work. This was the first time i got a refillable bottle though, maybe it's something new they do?
On another note...
As an update, i ended up taking it to a zagg kiosk at the mall and i must say, I wish i had done that to begin with. I really didn't see how their installation could be so amazing but it was FLAWLESS...I kind of wish I had stayed and watched her do it instead of walking around the mall. Maybe I could have learned her secrets so I could make it look that good myself next time around haha.
These pics were taken within 5 minutes of leaving the mall. No bubbles at all, and all corners stayed down.

It cost $10 for the install but i think it was worth it. If it ever peels i can go get it replaced for free.
I was thinking about getting one of the invisible shields, but they seemed a bit expensive, and with a $10 applying fee (I doubt I'll be able to get it on) that's a lot for a protective film. Just wondering if other people think they're worth the price.
I think it's definitely worth the price IF you use your phone like me. I refuse to put it in a hard case and always keep in in my pocket, so it basically eliminates scratches and prevents drops because it adds a better grip/feel to the phone. Especially when taking it out of my pocket there's a chance of it slipping out of my fingers so the full body works for me. Even if you do use a case, though, the screen protector is probably a good idea. It's the best one but since it's thicker some people don't like it. I got used to it on my Touch Pro and since then i've never noticed it being hard to slide my finger on the screen. It's all up to preference basically, but there's a reason why you get multiple protectors with the cheaper versions vs. 1 with invisible shield. It just works.
Also search online for online coupons, i used Zagg20 to get a 20% discount, so all together with the install it was a little over $30. Either way you get a lifetime warranty, but if you don't get it installed by them you have to remove, ship, and reinstall the new invisible shield yourself (they reimburse for shipping) and I didn't want to struggle with the back again.

Yup, another broken screen.

The USB cable was hanging over my desk. Those that have a nexus 4 know very well these things glide easily on flat surfaces.
The weight of the USB cable pulled the phone for a 3 foot fall to my wood floor. Both glasses shattered. Touch does not work. Back on my trusty galaxy nexus until further notice.
FYI bumpers are still on back over ever since I ordered my phone. 1st day order. I received the n4 last week.
It's already been shipped back to LG.

Its does glide. But not really if u have a protector on the back. My brother dropped his twice like this. Nothing happens though

Ohh boy!
Wow just got mine a couple hours ago, I'm already scared to drop the thing... Getting a case is the next logical move... Then wireless charging

Mine almost fell the same way as well. Luckily, I managed to catch the device before it actually fell anywhere.
I see a lot of people talking about getting a case but that's not going to stop your screen from cracking guys. Cases in many senses are absolutely useless. The shock from the fall can still break the back even if you do have a case.
I will remain caseless for now, I can't put a cheap piece of plastic over something this beautiful.
Usb cable pulled it to the floor? Sounds like some final destination stuff. Effed up. 3ft to wood for cracked both sides too? Smh
:xda on sprint g-nex:
What a bummer. At least you got the double whammy!
I saw the first picture and thought daymn.. then scrolled down and made an audible WTF noise. Well done. That's impressively smashed.
Can you please update OP with your location, how long it took to repair and how much it cost in total when you get your phone back? Don't have too it might just be good for reference in future.
Thanks!

well it's better than having no case at all. i've dropped phones with cases on and not a single scratch/crack. i'll sacrifice the extra bulk over a smashed phone
Just a protector front and back for me, no case! I like to live on the edge... And this phone feels too good

Waterproof Pouch for Note2 ?

hi guys.
I am thinking to take my note2 on Holiday and planning to do some scuba diving. Also i dont have a camera, and planning to use n7100 underwater for pictures.
Looking for a Waterproof Case Pouch, transparent and with ability to use touch screen.
Maybe anyone knows does such thing exists ? ? ? ? ?
found few on ebay , but not sure if i would be able to use touch screen with it.

I really dont think its worth the hassle and risk. they sell cheap underwater cameras. You really need to weigh the cost of water damaging your phone.
I haven't bought it myself, but it looks very good.
WinnerGear Waterpoorf Skin
Pros
completely waterproof
can use touchscreen (not under water)
reusable (limited times)
comes with water sensor
Cons
cannot access any ports including the S-Pen
when under water, the water pressure against the screen sometimes pushes virtual buttons. (I know this because there was a video review)
can't change battery
I looked for the video, but couldn't find it. But here is a decent one.

a ziplock bag works good as a waterproof case. Not sure if it works with the screen. It may, but it probably won't be as sensitive.

OP said he wanted to use while scuba diving... not sure that a $0.50 Ziploc bag is the proper investment to protect a $700 phone.
You can try something like this: www.drycase.com/waterproof_Smartpho...tphones_waterproof_cases_for_Smartphones.html
It's rated to withstand underwater pressure up to 100 feet for up to an hour.

I have an aquapac for my old phone. Haven't checked to see if they make a bigger one that would fit the note 2 but on my g2 it worked great. Actually, I got it for my g1. Been using it a few years now.
I'm a bit delirious now...normally work early mornings but have been working late nights the past 4 days. Now that I think of it...my note 2 did fit in my aquapac. I tried it one of the first days I had the phone..to take hurricane pics.
Should be aquapac.com
I've used it at water parks, in hurricanes, and best of all, while snorkeling in Hawaii! Touch screen works fine, but underwater it's not quite right because of the temperature I guess.
Makes you miss the hardware camera button....
I'm rambling. Tired. What I'm trying to say is... check out aquapac..they make great cases and have a good warranty/guarantee.

I'm pretty certain that even the well known branded pouches, wouldn't cope with the depths you would go to when scuba diving, the screen wouldn't even be responsive when fully submerged anyway.
I use an overboard pouch which I use when go on hikes and use memory map on my phone for navigating, that pouch is waterproof but again, there is a limit these things are rated to.

Winner Waterproof Skin looks cool, but it is only for 2 meters under water. while Dry Case is for 30 meters or 100 feet.
Thinking about both of them combined together for safety.
but than 39.99$ + 19.99$ - nearly 60$ just for few underwater pictures ??????
can get something like this and forget about all the hassle with my note. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4GB-Under...Cameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item4600fc5259
DryCase
Using a DryCase you will be able to take pictures/videos underwater without any risk for your phone and you will still be able to use the screen. The case is crystal clear which will enable you to take pictures and videos as if the phone weren’t in a case. Plus, the case is waterproof up to 100 feet which is perfect for scuba diving.
You can find DryCase at: drycase.com
Semi-related: I dove with my Garmin watch a number of times and all was well - in spite of exceeding the rated depth and duration. Until it wasn't all well. Then I had a useless running watch when I got back on land in Oz. Truly a bummer. I'm glad I only dove with a camera with a proper dive case; it would have been a helluva shame to kill my phone.
iOttie has waterproof skin too: http://iottie.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=1011&ProductType=320
but you have to keep in mind that it has finite number of uses since you have to take it on'n'off every time to charge up the phone. So it will probably last you 4-5 times or so. Still a good alternative when you are on vacation, have your battery fully charged, and want to take your phone to the beach!

Poetic hardback case

Has anyone else bought this? I'm a bit disapointed in it. XDA has turned off search so I couldn't search for similar threads.
On Amazon they picture the buckle fitting like this. Clearly reaching out and over the entire edge and holding on tight from under.

Mine, fits like this. It's as snug as a bug in the case and no more pressure or pushing is going to make it any better. The buckle just doesn't clasp correctly
I have that case, and it only happens for me when the lower corners are not fully seated (depressed) in their holders. I know you said it is snug as a bug, and if that is the case, yours is definitely made different as mine clasps as in the first photo.
Thanks.. It's clearly defective.
I opened the case up and just put the N10 on it so there is 0% chance of anything keeping it from closing how it was intended.
It clearly is made wrong. There is no way that is clasping no matter what. Pisses me off. $15 product and they know most people won't go through the trouble of going somewhere to ship it back, paying for shipping (and then waiting for them to credit you back) and hope they get it right the second time.. It still holds, especially with the little elastic strap but I'd prefer that extra little security.. Oh well..
I have no luck with cases. My Moko case for the N7 had the magnet improperly placed and the smart cover feature never worked. (it did work though I tested it with a magnet)
Looks like that clasp isn't bent enough. The rigid material underneath is probably plastic whereas metal could perhaps be bent a little more to adjust the fit. Bummer.
I massaged down strip of foam that runs on that edge there and it's sliding over better. Not like in their photo but it's more than it originally was.. It's usable and think once the foam softens up a bit more it'll be even better.
It stays shut and is protected ... Others have complained about the same thing in reviews: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6X3ZM6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
I see the complaints you're talking about. I'd send a picture of mine, but it's at home. I have to sort of flex the cover down while pulling up a bit on the hook to get it closed. The fit is rather tight, so I am trying to lessen the wear of repeated use. When closed the lid dips down just slightly at the hook. It would be a hassle to return. Maybe they would acknowledge a quality control problem and send a free replacement under the 3-year warranty? You're certainly not alone as Amazon attests.
I'm sorry to hear that. Mine fits perfectly. Smart Cover works pretty well to although I'm not used to it yet. My only complain is that while playing with it, the device gets hotter than usual.
I remember that in the beginning the inner tabs were very tight so I bent them to be able to remove the device more easily. I know it's difficult with that tab particularly. You can try using a heater if it's in fact plastic.
Silly question, did you move the elastic band so it's on the outside when closing the case?
Just ordered my Nexus 10 this morning and seriously considering this case...Should I do it? How reliable is their warranty if the case starts peeling or something? Should I worrya bout the tablet getting scratched while putting it on or getting it in kickstand mode so I can type on it in class?
Thanks!
In my modest opinion, the case is awesome. I own mine for about two months now. To be honest, I don't care about the warranty for a 15$ thing except if you have to return it because it's clearly defective.
I like the case, but I found another one in Amazon that I might like better. If I find it again I'll tell you.

I'd say do it. I wasn't going to use a case at all, but I realized I needed one for travel. I really liked that this one didn't have a bezel. I thought I'd use it just for travel, but I've never taken it off.
I mean, I mainly use the nexus without it, especially for gaming. But exactly, I need it for carrying it in the backpack. And the stand functionality is awesome fit browsing. This is the third case I have of this type. I use another one with my note 2 and with the transformer before if this tablet.
