Is My Tab Ruined? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I tripped over the power cord when doing a heimdall on my sph-p100 and originally thought It was hard bricked because nothing would happen when charging, connecting usb anything. A few tablets later I found this one laying around and decided to try getting it back to life. I am now able to get into download mode, flash via heimdall/odin, install cwm, install packages with cwm. But the only rom that works is [ROM][JB 4.2.2][GSM/CDMA] AOKP SGT7 - JB MR1 (latest: 02/05/2013) And it seems almost every link here is outdated (to be expected with the short lifespan of android devices) but basically. I get the symptoms of damaged internal memory when trying to flash anything else. However the tablet inside of AOKP is extremely glitchy and not functional, all the internal memory seems to be fine (camera works, save image with no sd, root explorer). Does anyone have any ideas how to return this to a stock sprint tablet? Thanks

have you tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275031

Yes definitely, I've tried other sites as well. Most of the links from rapidshare no longer work. Just hoping for fresh ideas.

Sorry if I sounds like condescending.
But have you really tried to read to the end?

Serendipity 5.12

Ok, so i just flashed this rom and so far so good, no problems flashing, which i am surprised as this is the first time i've done this.
The only issue i have is that there is no email app. I guess i should of gone into the kitchen and got that, but i was overwhelmed and just plain forgot.
Is there anyway that i can get that without having to reflash the rom completely?
Thanks
Sure. Just download the zip from the kitchen. Reboot into recovery and flash the zip. Any of the add-ons can be flashed. You don't have to reflash the rom again.

Hey thanks. I thought by adding those it would include the complete rom also. I'll give it a try.
Ok so i went to the kitchen and got what i needed. It all seemed to work properly except the Samsung keyboard. I really don't like theis roms keyboard. I like the colors and stuff. Should i try and reinstall that or does that go hand in hand with Samsung mms apk too?
I'm not sure about that. There's a "Serendipity Q&A" thread at the Captivate Q&A section. You'll get a quick reply there.

should be in the serendipity Q & A if it isnt go there and ask it, not in the themes and apps forum.........
Sorry didn't notice a section for that here. I didn't see a section for roms specific to the captivate. Themes and apps were the closest thing. Anyway....
I found the problem. Thanks. So far so good with this rom

I have noticed one thing with this rom so far. Maybe it's me but i can't get picture or video messages. It has a button to download but it never downloads. Will try going back to samsung mms and see what happens. I'm thinking of switching to Di11i's rom. But we will see.

My computer is not recognizing my phone at all. I'm not able to mount my SD card onto my computer so I can transfer files. I do have an external SD and I'm gnna try to put it on there and then use it to transfer it to the internal SD and then flash it. (that is if I find my mini SD adapter thing...)
Can anyone help me? please.
May have to get the usb drivers.

Got another computer you can use?
I've tried that and it still doesn't work. I've flash 6.3, but I had to download the zip file directly to phone and do everything from there.
I'm gnna try to flash a different rom and see what's up.

[Q] Install new ROM without USB

Hello all,
I've had a LG990 since februari 2011 and installed some ROM's on it and had my fun. But I wanted to sell it a couple of months ago and I've putted the original ROM back on and unrooted it.
Now the problem is my USB has died, I can't make a USB connection, it still charges thou but the cable always falls out so I think the connector is broken.
The original ROM sucks really hard, I'm having major issues with it and its really frustrating, it has a terrible battery life, camera and is slow as hell. I also can't get any updates so yes I'm stuck with the first version of the original ROM and no USB.
Anybody has any clue how I could get CM7 back on there? If this isn't possible I'm gonna sell it or throw it against a wall, probably the second because nobody would want it anyway.
Thanks!
Just put an external micro SD card into the card reader of your computer (most likely you'll need an adapter), download the ROM on your computer and place it on the micro SD. Then take it out, put it in your phone, boot into CWM and flash it.
Other option: download it directly from your phone and flash it like that.
Edit: I just realized that your phone isn't even rooted. Are you on Froyo or Gingerbread?
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
I'm on Gingerbread 2.3.4
Also I don't have CWM installed neither.
Is it possible a USB connector breaks but still charges? I have no problem getting the files on the device but I can't root or install CMW without USB right?
Try this, might help you and shoukdn't take long as you are already in stock rom

I tried it but it did not work so I guess its a hardware problem.
I once installed CMW by putting an .apk file on my SD card and it rooted itself, it was an app which also made possible to install cmw7 nightlies and others with one tab.
Anybody any idea? I can put files on my card thru ftp or dropbox and open them
I just need to get inside cmw install something new and get over with this nightmare ffs lol

I think you're thinking about GingerBreak and RomManager. I'm not sure though, if GingerBreak would work with 2.3.4. I have the same problem with the USB, but I was on 2.2.2, GingerBreak worked nicely, had no problems with flashing new ROMs afterwards.
You can get RomManager for free in the Google Play store.
Here's the link for GingerBreak, hope it works with the O2X on 2.3.4 (didn't work with an Xperia Arc on 2.3.4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Make sure you format your SD card. Just in case, I did format both of them, maybe unnecessarily
Gingerbreak still runs after one hour so I don't think it's working :-/
Any other ways to root my phone without USB?
Guess nobody has an idea. I'm screwed. Anyone want to buy an O2X ?

[P1000] Tried to flash JB, now everything is a mess...

Hello there guys!
I tried to flash my Samsung Galaxy Tab (P1000) from ICS to JB yesterday, but it wen’t wrong and now everything is a mess
It all started with that that CWM didn’t start up properly when I tried to get in there. “Screw this”, I said, and tried to find another CWM to flash. I didn’t end up very well that either when I went from CWM 6.0.X.X to CWM 3. The recovery told me that everything was unreadable and I couldn’t do a damn thing.
So there I was, sitting on my chair, wondering what I was supposed to do. My conclusion was to flash the tab with GB stock firmware, and so I did. But even that screwed up since Odin reported “FAIL!” and that is where I am right now.
The stock recovery tells me that it “failed to mount /data”. I guess it’s my internal SD that’s been messed up.
So what do you recommend me to do? Since I can enter Download Mode and the stock recovery (which though is quite unusable), I guess this is nothing more than a soft brick, so I'm not that worried, but it's tiring that it won't work propely.
Any hints, guys?
Already use overcome method?
The link is in my signature

Charlie, I had similar experience and in frustration and panic I resorted to GB_Stock_Safe_v1 and it rebooted and I had a new clean system on the tab. Actually it didn't reboot as expected after ODIN was finished. With the yellow download symbol still on the screen I had to unplug it and close and reboot manually.
Make sure to include modem.bin in PHONE or you will get NO SIM card error.
Set it up like this in ODIN
PIT - gt-p1000_mr.pit
PDA - GB_Stock_Safe_v1.tar
PHONE - modem.bin
You have to find the correct modem.bin from one of the folders in the GB_Stock_Safe_v1.ZIP
If you have success then insert 001007-Overcome_v2.0.1_HERMES_Wipe.zip into top level of your sdcard then into recovery and install then it should boot OK.
Any trouble locating the files or further suggestions just come back.
Stock safe v1 is so old. Hermes is old too.
Follow my signature for latest one.

They may be old but anyone with a soft brick is just looking for a bailout and they do that very well.
In fact after rescuing my broken tab with these oldies I went into recovery with
Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_NoWipe.zip
and it worked without any problems, so I unbricked and got the latest firmware.
You know where to get your oldies?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi priyana,
I am unable to locate them on the net now but if needed I could post them here.
I am never going to trash them that's for sure.
You are right in recommending Overcome, longbreak, but why would you want to use v1, especially if it's not even available on the net anymore? If someone wants to recover from a soft brick, just follow priyana's link, and you will find v5. This is the latest version, and I'm sure it will work just as well, if not better.
Thanks, I will try that next time. Only reason is I had version 1 and 3 for some reason and when I was trying to save my brick version 3 would not work for some reason and version 1 worked so It's really academic whether to use 1, 3 or 5. Whatever works does the trick and then it opens the gate to get to the higher level.
I disagree that it is merely academic.
V5 was the last version team overcome packed, and it made a very reliable baseline.
By saying that , I mean v1 will work for some, v3 for others, but v5 for all.

[Q] Accidentally wiped rom from Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4g.. help!

Hey everybody, new to the forum.. glad to be here!
Here's the deal.. I have googled and searched xda as well as other forums and can not seem to find the answer I am looking for,,
Here's what happened...
I was running 2.3.6. Used CWM and root zip to root my phone. That all worked fine, but next, like a dummy, I went through and started deleting stock apps and accidentally deleted my Live Wallpapers and Wallpapers. So, I used an app (I feel bad for not being able to remember which one, but in the midst of panic I went into last night, it slipped my mind) to unroot it.
When I did this, the stock apps didn't return. I'm guessing because I didn't back them up. So, next I tried to install Flash2stock, thinking that would get me back to where I needed to be. Well, somehow in the menu, I thought it would be a good idea to wipe the rom and everything else.
So, now when I turn my phone on it will boot to "Samsung Galaxt Exhibit 4g" screen and then just boot loop.
In my googling yesterday, I found a page about using ODIN and how I could use it to flash back to stock with my phone. I tried and tried, but Odin will not recognize my phone. I have the correct drivers installed (as far as I can tell) but no luck..
So, I'm here to ask you root gurus about solutions. Are there other methods to restoring my stock rom and getting my phone working again?
or am I just missing something with the Odin stuff?
Please, please, please help! I thank you so much in advance. Not having a phone sucks!
Try uninstalling the drivers and re-installing the ones from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Exhibit_4G
PS: Have you put your phone into download mode before connecting it to your computer? Volume down and power should get you there.

Thank you for sending me that link. I did not know that I needed a different driver for download mode.. unfortunately both links provided in the wiki page do not work. I am going to google it again and see if I can find them somewhere else.. or if you know of another link that would rule.
And yes I did. I believe I did so correctly. Once the screen with the yellow "!" came up, I pressed the Vol up to get into download mode, then I plugged in my phone, then started Odin. Odin showed the message "Please connect Phone".
I'm running Windows 7 32-bit. And my computer thinks the other driver is called "mtp driver". This is draining, but I am determined to not let a phone beat me
I have done this before, since you have cwm on your phone, all you need to do is download the flash2stock zip to your external sd. Flash via cwm and wait for it to finish, then reboot and let your phone sit for roughly 10 mins. You should be good after that

Thanks again guys. I finally found the srivers I needed and got Odin ti recorgnize my phone.
The method with the sd card would have worked perfectly, but i do not have an sd card reader for my computer. Will definitely be investing in one soon!
When Odin set this guy back up, it install 2.3.5 bavk on here, which is fine because I plan to root and customize anyway.
Any suggestions for kernels/roms i should check out? I have done minimal looking at the ones for my drvice, but intend to.
My main concern is functionality. I need my camera and other apps to work. If they dont, then to me it defeats the purpose.
Also, I do remember the joy os rom that looks like an iphone-ish layout.. Has anybody made one that looks like a windows phone? Ive used the launchers in the past, but it would be cool if there was a rom out there.
Thanks again yall!

If you want a windows phone look you could get Cyanogenmod and install a windows phone theme. Then just get Launcher 8. The theme is pretty extensive and does the whole system. Then just get apps like metro messaging to replicate core apps. Also there is a Windows phone keyboard out there somewhere.

[Q] Root questions.

I've tried to read as much as I can about rooting the Nook HD+ here, but I have some questions before my attempts. It sounds like some Nook HD+ taking rooting fine while others do not. Through some of the reading I've done here, it sounds like you can dual boot if you have CWM/CM installed on an SD card. Before attempting anything, can you leave the stock Nook ICS on the internal memory and have CWM/CM installed on an external SD Card? I would feel more comfortable about that because it sounds like this is really hit and miss. If rooting does not take I can pull out the SD card and boot like normal to stock Nook ICS
I've never had a problem with rooting any devices that I've owned. This is the first time I've been hesitant about rooting. I just bought it today. I don't want to brick it. I liked how easy it was to root the Galaxy S3 with odin. I would feel more comfortable if there was something more automated in this case. It looked like there was a lot of different links to files for root. Which one is the current? Sorry if this is asked a lot. Thanks in advance for the help
Richard
I think I found the answers. I should have read a little more. I guess there is no way to do this without removing the stock firmware. That is fine with me, but I'm still nervous because the reports of Nooks boot looping seem to be frequent compared to other devices. I know this can obviously happen with any device. It looks like I can leave the stock firmware/ bootloader untouched if I understand this post correctly? I can install a bootloader and CM 10.1 to an external SD without affecting the Nook bootloader and firmware? Thanks again
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500
Well, first off I am very frustrated how so many users get confused about "rooting". Rooting is just the process of giving an operating system 'root' access. You can 'root' stock by flashing a zip with CWM. It is still stock but has root access.
Or you can replace stock with a totally different operating system (like CM). CM comes already rooted and unfortunately many users call installing CM rooting. It is not. It is installing a new operating system that just also happens to be already rooted.
Ok, off my soapbox.
If you are worried about messing up your stock then you should install CM to an SD. That leaves stock unmodified and allows CM to run independently. Just remove the SD and it will boot next time to stock. There are instructions to install to SD in the development threads.
All HD/HD+'s will have no trouble with rooting stock or installing CM. It is the actual ability to boot using a bootable SD that is sometimes troublesome. And you must be able to boot to an SD to either root stock or install CM. And of course if you want CM on SD, that must be able to boot also.

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear. I was worried about putting CWM on the internal storage. I use the term rooting to broadly here. I saw people had trouble with CWM on internal storage and some not. I have plenty of experience. I'm not worried I would make mistake. Seems like this device has had recent history of problems with making any chances to the stock firmware. Most of the post I read were from people who bought the Nook recently. That is what made me thing before making a change.. The last thing anyone wants is to brick a new device. That's why I liked the idea of using external storage first. Thanks for clearing that up.

Well putting CM on internal is very easy and reliable once you get the SD to boot. And that thread you referenced is the right one to be following if you want it on internal.
However if you want CM on SD follow a different thread.

I would suggest this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087988
That puts CM10.1 on it and it is very stable. There are other threads for CM10.2 and for the SGT7 modified CM10.1 and CM10.2 on SD, but I think the one above would be your best bet.
