First of all thank you TenKoX for taking time out to reply to my message.
But I do not know where to start,
Lets start with rooting my phone,
will any root work
or do I have to specifically find a root
If I have to specifically find a root, do I find a root for JXJV6 or JPJV6?

[Q] Help in unrooting!

I just bought a SGS recently and these are the Settings
BASEBAND VERSION : I9000XXJPK
KERNEL VERSION : 2.6.32.9 root SE-S608 #1
BUILD NUMBER : FROYO.BOJP7
I am a total noob when it comes to rooting! This is the first smartphone ive bought!
Can you please tell me how to unroot this and install a faster version, because my phone lags a lot!
I would appreciate it if you could please explain it in steps as i have no clue what im doing!
Hello,
If you didn't install a lagfix, you do not need to unroot before flashing a new firmware.
I suggest you to make your own rom with romkitchen based on JS5 and hardcore's speedmod kernel.
You will need to flash hardcore's kernel first with odin (only the kernel) to get recovery 2e and CWM.

Not sure if your phone is actually rooted but anyway even if it is it shouldn't matter, unless you have a lagfix applied. If so undo lagfix and then flash to another firmware.
There a a few ways to installing new firware. One is through kies and using kies registry patcher. This allows you to fake your region allowing you to flash to firmware updates that may not be available to you. Good choice is to update to a euro 2.2.1
I prefer to flash manually using Odin to a firmware of my choice. Just go to samfirmware.com snd once in the galaxy s firmware section you willfind all the files you need. Just be sure to read the instructions on the page as well.
Flashing the phone with custom firmware is another. For that you use clockworkmod recovery which you can install with rom manager from the market (need to be rooted first and have 2e recovery) or by flashing a kernal like speedmod using odin.

That kernel is the default one. The root bit often throws.people off. As the previous post said look for the app super user or better still download an app that requires root access like titanium.backup and try using it. If u can't use it then you have not been rooted

I downloaded titanium backup! It dint install. Thanks a lot for your help, ive been reading the guides on how to root my phone, and ill attempt it later!

I think you mean ROOTING your SGS, not unrooting?
Anyway read that before starting any tweak : -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810686
Your phone is not rooted. Search this forum for Darky's resurection edition and read, think, then read again. And don't forget to read.
Further more, check your 3-button combo's and make sure to have your /EFS backed up.

thanks mate but I'm on version 2.1 but in ur thread it says, Rooting GT -I9000 2.3.6 [India DD JV7 / JVB]....... should I go ahead with that rooting process still? just wanna make sure cause I really don't wanna brick my phone
on 2.1??
why you are on 2.1???official update is released since ages..just update to 2.3.6 and then follow the same.
this two steps done very carefully
1 when you connect yor phone to odin in download mode the yellow light will be blinked in id:com.
2 put kernel file in PDA only
3 uncheck re partition and just click your device will be rooted enjoy.
I just got the phone yesterday bro....how do I update to 2.3 though, ?

one advice: get some basic information regarding rooting, recovery, kernel etc....i root my phone after doing research for month and then i proceed.here in XDA lots of information available very easily just go through posts and forums.read and re-read then proceed.
if u do something wrong we are here to help you but make sure you know what you are doing.
good luck
thanks man I've already rooted my SG3 , I went into settings but I don't see any option regarding to check for updates .....can it be done via keys

Link is already there in that video please check carefully before posting

Last time I needed gingerbread I did a simple Google search. There are working links in these forums if you search too.
Don't expect to be spoon fed everything. Do some research like everyone else did instead of just posting all the time.

Follow these steps sequentially; safest, tried and tested by over 10,000 people on GT-i9000:
1. Go back to stock: Flashing To Original Rom - Using Odin on GT-i9000
2. Root your device: Rooting GT-I9000 2.3.3 [India DDJV9]
3. Install ICS: Installing Ice-cream Sandwich 4.0.4 On Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
4. Install JB: Installing Jelly Bean 4.1 on Galaxy S GT-I9000
ENJOY

If you don't care about the data you have now, you could try flashing the semaphore GB kernel and then flash whatever ROM you want or, you could download the latest firmware from Samfirmware and then I'll help you further!

Hoping you know how to use Odin, and also what a kernel is, Semaphore is a kernel which has CWM. At the moment, let's just aim for CWM. So you will have to download this file and flash it via Odin in the PDA tab.
Does my phone have to be in download mode or not while doing this? Different guides show that it has to and others that not.

The file I gave you has to be flashed via Odin. So the Download Mode would be a critical yes
