You can use Kies to update. Have the latest version of Kies installed in your PC. Let Kies to install the required files for your Phone.
Connect your Phone to PC via USB Data Cable. If there is an update for your Phone, Kies will detect and intimate you.
Another step is via Odin. You can hit the link here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ & find your desired Firmware and install using Odin. Its a manual process which you have to do (Most prefer this)

[Q] Cant update to 2.3 (stock) through Kies

I'm using DocRom 2.2 now and I want to update to stock 2.3, but Kies wont let me do it.
It basically says that the current version cannot be updated.
Do I have to flash a stock rom first and then update through Kies?
If so, where do I get a stock rom (swedish)?
if have a js8 room, you can update 2.3.3 jvh rom.
pls remove your kies program from pc. and visit samsung official website... download update version of it... install it on pc... restart your pc... and connect phone to kies with origianl samsung original usb cabl. and write us that what do your kies says? your rom is very old... you can update 2.3.3 step by step 2.2.1 to 2.3.3
Try this procedure : Galaxy S Android 2.3 update using Kies

[Q] Galaxy Tab Not Supported in Kies?

Hi all,
I just got my AT&T version SGT and I downloaded Kies to get the latest firmware updates. When I connect the tab to Kies I get a message that "This device is not supported by Kies 2.0." I checked for updates but it says I'm running the latest version of Kies.
Any ideas?
Is there any other way to install firmware updates besides Kies?
Thank you.
Same here. I tried everything I could think of, however Kies still will not accept the tablet.
So there's no other way to install firmware updates?
Plenty of other ways.
Fwiw, mine said that too. I only onstalled Kies to get the USB drivers installed. I have since removed Kies.

And some of those ways might be? Your answer left much to be desired.

[Q] Help me please. 2.2

Okey, first of all, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this, so I need some help.
After long browsing I was able to root my Samsung Galaxy.
Now I want to update my Galaxy from 2.2 to Gingerbread.
Since I rooted my Galaxy it won't connect to Kies anymore, so I guess Kies won't work.
I have an Samsung Galaxy S I9000,
FROXO.XWJPA,
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
Is it possible to update, if yes, how?
Thanks
anyone? :l
Go to samfirmwares.com for the latest firmware
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
so I just have to update firmware and I'll have Gingerbread?

Download a FW from Samfirmware, the latest is I9000XXJVR (Its 2.3.4), then via Odin you flash a 3 file's, its CODE, MODEM and CSC, and pit file and tick re-partition
Xooley,
I'm new on the forums so cant post any links but if you search for "how to use Odin" then it's really not that difficult.
The biggest decision you have is whether to stick with a "stock" copy of firmware i.e released by the manufacturer or install one of the modded versions from the hard working developers on XDA.
if you have a rooted phone then this wouldn't normally prevent KIES from working, so it might be that your carrier (orange?) hasn't release a Gingerbread version yet.
You can get most stock roms from samfirmwares as stated above. If you've never installed a rom before, make sure you read about it (checked youtube) to see if there are any problems with the one that you have chosen.
best of luck

[Q] need help android 2.2 to 2.3

Hi all, i need someone to answer my questions below
my Galaxy Tab GT P1000 is now still running in Android 2.2 Froyo Rooted with superoneclick.
can i just update the firmware to 2.3 gingerbread through official samsung kies program on pc ?
Or i have to unroot my galaxy tab to update to official ginger bread 2.3 update ?
And just to let you know that i just deleted mine preinstalled swype and installed new swype beta.not sure if it's safe to install an official update.
Before i rooted my tab the samsung kies program found a new firmware update for my tab which has some long code and jpi something i can't remember it correctly, not really sure if it is gingerbread update
I just notice that when i open more than 2 apps some apps automatically closes itself.does anyone know what is causing it ?
Samsung kies kinda sucks since the usb connection kept disconnecting it's kinda hard to backup stuff.not to mention backup some small files takes ages too.
U can update via official samsung kies program on pc directly.
If kies find you already root or ROM broken, it will help you to flash a new official rom, just follow kies.

galaxy note not gradeable via kies

Hello,
I have bought Galaxy Note few days age. When connecting to KIES, it will recognize my phone, but gave a massage that the note is not gradeable.
I know I have the latest stock firmware in my region (KK2), but how can I get Kies to show "You have the latest firmware" so in future I can have official upgrades?
The phone is not rooted yet.
First option : Install latest Kies version then try,
Second option: Downgrade to KJ4 and then try to update via Kies.
Can I downgrade to KJ4 using mobile ODIN or it has to to be from PC?
In any case and before downgrading, I will Nandroid backup my original KK2 and restore it back if needed. This sound OK as will. Correct?
I am coming from SGS-1 and new to this.
