[Q] Galaxy Tab Not Supported in Kies? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I just got my AT&T version SGT and I downloaded Kies to get the latest firmware updates. When I connect the tab to Kies I get a message that "This device is not supported by Kies 2.0." I checked for updates but it says I'm running the latest version of Kies.
Any ideas?
Is there any other way to install firmware updates besides Kies?
Thank you.

Same here. I tried everything I could think of, however Kies still will not accept the tablet.

So there's no other way to install firmware updates?

Plenty of other ways.
Fwiw, mine said that too. I only onstalled Kies to get the USB drivers installed. I have since removed Kies.

And some of those ways might be? Your answer left much to be desired.

[Q] Is there a way to find out what the stock firmware was of my SGS?

Hi there guys.
I can't remember whether my SGS had the JF3 firmware out of the box or not. And, since both JM7 and JM8 are not cutting it for me, I'd like to revert back to my phone's stock firmware. Is there a way to find out what the firmware "out of the box" used to be?
Thanks in advance.
europe = JM2 latest stock
Thank you for your reply.
So JM2 is basically the latest non-beta firmware version?
Also, should I use the "usual" method to flash JM2 and should I get the files at samfirmware?
Please bear with me as I am very new to this flashing stuff.
samfirmware is fast and easy
or you can do it via Kies but it's a challenge dealing with Kies as most people can tell you

Kies would not update me past JM1. I flashed an old firmware to my phone and as expected Kies prompted me for a firmware update. Only to JM1 though and after JM1 was installed it said my phone was up to date, idk if this is the same for everyone else just letting you know ...
Is it even possible to "downgrade" by using Kies? Cause I can't seem to get it to work, even with all of the registry hacks described in several threads, here on XDA.
Guess I'll have to use Odin after all...

I have encountered the same in the past. Not sure on which productcode JM2's available.

2 things you can do:
1, Spoof Kies into giving you latest update
2, Flash latest update yourself through Odin. (i prefer this)
Thanks.
But how do that, is there a link i can go to.
What version is your Kies?
Its new one from Samsung 2.0.0.11032_12 if this helps.

Damn Kies Problem!!

Hi everyone,
I used custom roms for a long time and after that i decided to upgrade original samsung rom via kies. so i downloaded turkish rom from samfirmware.com and now i connect to kies and it says this device is not official samsung device and doesnt upgrade my samsung in the past there was method called spoof kies however it doesnt work with latest kies?
so how can i upgrade the official rom?
Just download right firmware from samfirmware.com and flash it via Odin.
It is that simple. Kies is ****
Why are you using kies? I used kies once when I first got my SGS and it almost screwed my phone up. Its a known fact that kies is crap, stick to odin and CWM

Just find out one of the previous ROMS that was officially available for your country or region. Flash that ROM via Odin. Then, you should be able to connect to Kies and update without any problems.

The newer versions of Kies are better now. Also, the advantage of using Kies to update is that your data isn't wiped.

...and you can't backup all data + apps +++ you wish to save and restore later...?
You can always try Kies again and again, but I stongly recommend Odin method.
With Odin, I'm quite sure you won't get bad headache

Well, you can back everything up with apps like Titanium Backup, but certain apps won't work properly after restoration, especially games. Fruit Ninja, for example, will no longer be able to save new high scores after restoration, and gameloft games don't work at all after restoration. Upgrading by Kies avoids these problems. But I guess that if you don't play games that much, Odin is the better choice. However, restoring apps takes up some time, while using Kies is faster.

need a little help flashing a ROM

My wife asked me to put her phone back to stock Samsung firmware as she didn't want CM10.1 anymore (yes, I said she was silly)
Anyway the problem is.....My computer will not recognise her phone, It's running Windows 8 are the i9000 incompatible?
I have Kies installed and it recognises my phones fine, both Samsungs.
So....I was wandering if either there is anyone that knows how to sort this out as I have tried everything I can think of. Or are there flashable ZIP packages anywhere of stock firmware I can flash through recovery?
Thank for any help

Use task manager to kill any Kies tasks that you find running, install i9000 windows driver (google search) than flash desired rom (preribly stock) via odin.
Yes, I did that just yesterday running Win8.
You can find stock roms over HERE
---------------------------------------------------
phone: i9000
rom: CyanAOSP v0.5.2
kerel: Semaphore 2.9.7s
Thanks for your quick response! I always kill kies when using Odin so that wasn't an issue. However I was under the impression that installing kies gave me the drivers so thank you for your advice I'll install i9000 drivers separately and hopefully sus it out.
Thanks mate

If I can I always flash using Heimdall on Linux - I don't have to worry about drivers.

You can use Kies to update. Have the latest version of Kies installed in your PC. Let Kies to install the required files for your Phone.
Connect your Phone to PC via USB Data Cable. If there is an update for your Phone, Kies will detect and intimate you.
Another step is via Odin. You can hit the link here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ & find your desired Firmware and install using Odin. Its a manual process which you have to do (Most prefer this)
