Why root - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I just traded someone a Note 2 for this beautiful HTC one....I've always rooted my phones but with this one I'm actually questioning it. Why would we root ? Besides the bloatware removal..why? Also does LTE work on AOSP roms? Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

To be able to use own hosts file, create and restore backup with Titanium Backup.
Most important is: it is my phone I paid a lot, I want to do whatever I want with it.

Have a look in the Original Android Development section at the various AOSP roms available and you'll see what the roms support

It's got personal info and it's device specific so it can't be used to restore a different device

this is correct, we cant even have a look in to the backup to change our own devices, if you updated the samsung firmware your and snookered, although, and ive not tried it, but i tyhink if you havent hard reset it, you should be able to unlock it still so long as the provxml stuff is still there

My guess is this is not entirely true. To the best of my knowledge, all available superuser solutions install a su binary as well, which is located someplace like /system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su or some such, and possibly other files required by the solution. That would mean that while simply removing the APK might make it impossible to use su (as the binary might be dependent on the APK in order to work properly, although this is just a guess), it most certainly won't restore the sytem to its pre-root state.
I'd also like to get a copy too please!

Well, guys, I'd really love to help you with this, I would be able to host this on a machine with practically unlimited bandwidth, however, unfortunately, Fedex seems to be holding my phone in a wrong country because some idiot put a wrong country code in the address and they don't seem to be willing to do anything about it. \-:

Anyone way to make the Note 3 lighter/leaner?

Just got a Note 3 for my wife, and I am not ready to root/unlock and install a custom ROM on it yet.
But this phone just have too much junk on it. Anyway to make it lighter an leaner? What's safe to remove/uninstall?
thanks much

"Titanium Backup". You have a lot of reading to do in the general threads. Depending on your firmware version will determine your available root methods. There's Kingo Root,Evilpotatoman's method etc.Read through the threads and then read again to make sure you grasp the methods.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The most effective way to remove bloat would be to root it, install titanium backup, and either uninstall or freeze applications.

Thanks guys, I wanted to unlocked and install 4.4 ROM on this, but it seems that ROM development is still underway so just wanted to know some quick ways to remove bloat on this phone.
I know lots of readings are necessary.

Looking for ROM advice.

Hey guys,
I just got my new HTC One 3 days ago and I am about to unlock and root. I want to keep it as stock as possible, but have working wifi. I need suggestions for a rom that fits that description. Thanks a bunch for any advice you can give.

There are no roms fr the One which have no Wifi
There are maany roms based on stock Sense 5.5 which offer a lot more custimizations, like RAM usage in the mutitasking menu, changing the grid size in the app drawer, nd MILLIONS of other mods, than the default stock rom. ARHD, InsertCoin, MaximusHD, ViperOne are a few roms which i can remember. I wud recommend any of these Sense roms instead of pure stock

I would suggest Maximus 32.0 , closest to stock, bug free, great battery life,
works good with custom kernels etc..

Thanks a bunch, but doesn't look like it's gonna happen. I keep getting error code 106 from HTC's unlock site, so I can't unlock it anyway. hasoon's tool kit download links have been removed, so no luck there either unless you know a way to unlock it that I haven't tried. Thanks again.

Certain variants of the One like the Verizon version cant b unlocked thru HTCDev. The Verizon One needs to b unlocked with Rumrunner. There are special tools required fr certain variants. I only know so much, coz mine is International Unlocked. Search the forum fr any threads which solve ur issue(Im sure some1 wud have had the same issue). Otherwise Create a separate thread fr ur issue

Nonsense ROM 1.04: Sense Home, aka BlinkFeed

I seem to be having a problem with using Sense Home on my Desire 510 after converting back to Nonsense ROM 1.04. Every time I try to log into Sense Home after installing it from Google Play, it tells me that it failed to connect to the HTC servers. Is there a certain library I need to install to my system? If so, can and how would I go about getting this from RaptorROM?

Why would you want to install sense on a non sense based rom? You're better off going back to stock.

You don't need a computer! You can flash a recovery by using Flashify from the play store! And after flashing recovery you can then flash the roms from within the recovery app itself.. No Computer needed AT ALL.. But you do need to make sure you download the correct stuff to flash so you don't make a mistake and end up needing a PC.

I was directed to the HTC website where I can download an exe that will automate the process for me, but other than that, I couldn't seem to find a flashable or restorable zip of the vanilla sense ROM for Cricket Wireless.

Ack, sorry! I found a restorable zip, but now I just need to find the space to unzip the restore folder.
Thank you for your help. I realize that most people who help on Android forums are unappreciated, and I understand the frustration.

I usually used to just hand everyone the URL Addresses to whatever they wanted but at this point I realize that I'm not helping anyone learn to use the search function by doing that so instead I actually look and then confirm or deny whether there's something available or not. But thanks for noticing that!!
