Hey guys,
I just got my new HTC One 3 days ago and I am about to unlock and root. I want to keep it as stock as possible, but have working wifi. I need suggestions for a rom that fits that description. Thanks a bunch for any advice you can give.

There are no roms fr the One which have no Wifi
There are maany roms based on stock Sense 5.5 which offer a lot more custimizations, like RAM usage in the mutitasking menu, changing the grid size in the app drawer, nd MILLIONS of other mods, than the default stock rom. ARHD, InsertCoin, MaximusHD, ViperOne are a few roms which i can remember. I wud recommend any of these Sense roms instead of pure stock

I would suggest Maximus 32.0 , closest to stock, bug free, great battery life,
works good with custom kernels etc..

Thanks a bunch, but doesn't look like it's gonna happen. I keep getting error code 106 from HTC's unlock site, so I can't unlock it anyway. hasoon's tool kit download links have been removed, so no luck there either unless you know a way to unlock it that I haven't tried. Thanks again.

Certain variants of the One like the Verizon version cant b unlocked thru HTCDev. The Verizon One needs to b unlocked with Rumrunner. There are special tools required fr certain variants. I only know so much, coz mine is International Unlocked. Search the forum fr any threads which solve ur issue(Im sure some1 wud have had the same issue). Otherwise Create a separate thread fr ur issue

did you expect them to say anything less? basically what they are saying is "we believe our consumers are too stupid to modify or otherwise personalize their devices, so as a result we have prevented you from access all software on your phone for your own good"
It reminds me of Liar Liar, "That's just something ugly people say to feel better about themselves."
"That's just something phone manufacturers say to feel something better about their software"

I'm debating about unlocking my phone and instal a Rom right now or wait and see. I usually root all phones but I was one of those dumbasses that flashed my EVO 3D with the virgin mobile version. Lucky me I didn't have most of the side effects people were complaining about. I just had the VM banners and some times text messages errors, but CM 10.1 make it go away.
Anyone have any cons about unlocking my phone and flash a rom right now or wait until we get S-Off if (ever happens).

No cons from me. I unlocked and rooted within hours of purchasing. Have been on ViperROM for a couple of weeks now. I'm loving it.

Cool, I'm in the process of unlocking the phone.
For right now unlocked is all we need. It gives us access to all the needed parts(system, recovery, boot).

you just need to unlock and install either twrp or cwm recovery.
From what I've read this really isn't a big deal. Nexus devices are not S-Off either. All this prevents you from flashing are the radio and bootloader which are not usually modified.

True, although for asop, aokp. and other open source roms a different bootloader maybe required. For the evo 3d the ics bootloader that installed with the firmware from the ota would give bootloops if a asop or aokp rom was flashed.if as a user you would never flash anything other than custom roms for your current version of android then yes an unlocked bootloader is all you need. Another example was the htc flyer. That device shipped with gingerbread when htc released the ota for honeycomb every user was in a hurry to install it, many had flashers remorse and wished to go back to gingerbread. With s-on they were out of luck.
This phone has features we may never see in aosp. I'm holding off on that. Nothing wrong with sense5 though honestly, its way better than any previous versions so far

Incorrect. You need to flash a superuser app and its binaries as well.
this zip is supposed to turn off read/write protection Sprint_One_Root_Disable_System_RW_Protection (1).zip
I was thinking we are a rare bunch of folks that are control freaks that root our phones.
But it amazes me to see things like Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, ROM Manager apps very near the highest volume Android Apps in the Market !!!
These are obviously "Root" user apps.
Maybe it's because we wipe our phones so often we distort the statistics
I love how they say they don't allow s-off because of "warranty" reasons yet at the bottom of the page it says unlocking your device will render the warranty void. #likewhat

This is somewhat false. The reason it was causing boot loops was because of the boot.img not flashing properly. It was required when the hboot got updated that we used a process such as "HTC dumblock" to flash the boot.img. Currently for our Ones we are fine because the hboot will allow proper flashing of the boot.img yet in the past, some future updates have blocked this feature. I for one will always want s-off. It gives me full control

Just curious, is there a 4.2.2 sense rom for the m7spr yet?
I heard there's some floating around for at&t/t-mobile versions, but I haven't seen one for the Sprint model
No.

I'm with you in the hunt for a compatible ROM for the Sprint HTC One!! I got a question as well. I just got S-OFF and from what I have read I can flash any ROM now. (if I have SUPER CID) Is that true?

We were able to flash some international ROMs....until they updated to 4.2.2 in which we lost that. So, in closing... There are NO 4.2.2 Sense ROM's that we can use.
We suck...

I don't see any kernel by zarboz in these forums. I'd hold off if I were you to avoid having to recover from bootloops.
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

Okay... I have looked around, saw a few guides, Think its 90% clear to me how to do this.. HOWEVER just to be certain::
First I unlock through htc website..
Root it, then add a custom recovery (clock work mod tool i think??)
Then flash it somehow?
I would appreciate if someone could direct me to a super noob friendly guide on how to do this?
The plan is to put on a google play edition ROM onto my new normal HTC One.
Thanks!

Android Kitkat 4.4 is currently available only for US developer edition
If u want Kitkat immediately convert your mobile to developer edition one

Personally i dont see any benefits. It gets updates a little bit sooner but nothing big. If you get an actual developer edition device though you get 64gb of storage and unlocked bootloader

I've never seen a purely stock (rooted) ROM with hotspot working. Usually, the custom ROM developer activates it before building his ROM. I know there are some apps in the Play Store that people have had luck with in the past.
I can't seem to get hotspot mode to start. How can I do this??

As coal686 mentioned in the prior post you WILL NOT see the hotspot unlocked on a stock rom. You will need to load one of the many roms where the developer has unlocked it.
Isn't there a way for me to unlock it myself if someone can help me?? Isn't the reason were here to figure it out? How would a dev be able to unlock it and y couldn't I? Sorry, not trying to be smartass or bothersome, but just curious.

No problem as I had the same question in the past. From my understanding, it has to be unlocked in the developer's "kitchen" before the ROM is compiled. It can't be unlocked in a compiled ROM (unless things have changed since I asked). So, the only way for you to do it would be to build your own ROM. I've never done it before, but there are tutorials on how to do it with Android Kitchen. It would be a big project for you, but I've heard it's very fulfilling.
