[Q] PIN1/PUK1 unlock code - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I was on Sprint recently, and upon entering my account I saw this option "Get my PIN1/PUK1 unlock code". What exactly is this and where would I use this at on the phone. Also are there and advantages or disadvantages to no having my PIN1/PUK1 unlocked.

it's if you happen to lock your sim card on accident you would need the PUK code to unlock the sim in order to be used again. I work for AT&T and I get this call on a regular basis.

Since I would apparently want to avoid doing this, how would one lock the SIM card inadvertently? I'm going overseas soon, and wouldn't want to mess up my foreign SIM card. :fingers-crossed:

unlocking without a SIM card?!

Hi. I am wondering if anyone can tell me the procedure to unlock my AT&T Tilt without another carrier's SIM card?
I have the unlock code from AT&T, but I do not know the key strokes to bring up the dialogue to enter the unlock code. I do NOT have access to another carrier's SIM card. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Why are you wanting to unlock it without the need for another sim? You can use the phone without a sim card in there so it's not like you have that restriction. Just keep the code on the phone and when you have the need, it's there for you whereever you are.
Or if you're wanting to unlock it to sell it, just include the code with the sale. The buyer is going to know it's an att phone, and as long as you have the code to unlock it, there's no difference. If anything, it makes the phone more "new" than if you turned it on the unlock it and then sell. So depending on how you pitch it, it could be an additional good trait
Borrow the other carrier SIM from your friends or go to T-mobile store to do the test.
I had old line with T-mobile. Did the unlock in 5 sec. After putting the T-mobile SIM it ask for SIM lock code...
you can goto a cell phone store. usually the people would let you use a foreign sim.
another idea would be to buy a tmobile to go phones. not that expensive. and you'd get a backup phone as well depending on which you choose. for example, the nokias are real easy to unlock for free
Thanks alot for your replies.
Actually, yes, it is to sell the phone. So, I assume what I will do is just include the unlock code with the sale. It would be nice if the phone actually had a series of keystrokes that you can enter to in order to bring up the unlock dialogue.

How to use unlock code.

I have an unlock code for my ATT Tilt. How do I unlock my phone with it without using a different carriers sim? Asking because I am selling the phone on eBay unlocked.

what is your unlock code?
Look for "SimLock.exe" in the \Windows directory. Run that and it should ask for the unlock code. Input the code. Wallah! Unlocked phone. (that is, if you have the correct code). No foreign SIM required.
^ I'm looking there but the only thing related to SIM in there is the sim manager
unlock code
I did this today traveling from the US to Canada.
Place another SIM card in the phone and turn it on. When it boots up, it asks fo rthe code. enter the code and press ok, all done.

First select 'Menu' and then 'Show All Files'. Now you should be able to find it.

Question about unlocking the g1

I just bought a g1 that is not unlocked, and I wondered if I have to have a tmobile sim card to unlock it.
No, the opposite, you need a sim card from another provider (along with the unlock code) to unlock it.

In The U.S., i saw you were not, you get the code from T-mobile unlike most other U.S. carriers they give it to you. Then any sim card other than an active T-mobile, even old non-active ones I have used as it just needs something to look against to enter the code. Here is the instructions....
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: nnnnnnnn
IMEI: nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Unlock Code: nnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.
1. Insert the foreign SIM card
2. Power on the device and the display should read "Please input unlock code"
3. Enter the unlock code and the device should display "Phone is unlocked."
4. Allow the phone to scan the network (or manually click on the antenna icon to do this)
It is very important that the instructions and SIM unlock code are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. You will need to verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and contact Customer Care for support.
Thank You,

how to unlock g1 without foreign sim card?

I just received unlock instructions from tmobile, including the unlock code. The first step, howwver, is to insert a foreign sim card. I haven't left the country yet so I don't have one. Is there a way to proceed without a foreign sim card? I had a brand new sim card lying around and I tried using that, but after reboot it never asked me for the unlock code it just booted up into the home screen and asked me to sign into gmail. Any suggestions?
In wich carrier is the phone locked now? Tmo? If is on Tmo, and the sim isnt from Tmo, then your phone is already unlocked...if the sim is from the same carrier than your phone, then you need another carrier sim to unlock it...
He wants to unlock his phone without a foreign sim card. When you unlock, to be able to see the Unlock Code input screen a different sim card than your carriers must be in the phone. He wants to unlock without the second sim card.

You are perfectly allowed to post that, however that is not what he is looking for at all.
Just find a friend with AT&T and borrow their SIM card for the 5 minutes it takes to unlock the phone.
Dang, I used to work for T-Mobile in the PDA dept and never realized this limitation. I don't *know* anyone who has an AT&T phone and am selling my G1, need to be able to get it unlocked. Everyone I know uses either T-Mobile, Verizon or Sprint. I would hate to have to send the buyer the unlock code and have them do it themselves. Almost any other phone has a # code to type in, why not the G1?
Looks like it's not a G1 thing but a T-mobile thing. I had to use another non T-mobile SIM to unlock my HD7 as I am selling it.

The best thing you can do is see if any of your friend has a different carrier sim (IE: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint) and put it in. After you turn on the phone, it will then come up with the box that prompt you to put in your unlock code.
I have a UK SIM card coming in a couple of days, and I have received my unlock code from TMO. I will not be traveling to the UK until September, but want to test the unlock code now just in case TMO messed it up. is there any downside to inserting the UK SIM card in the G1 in the US just for unlocking purposes?
For more input, my phone is rooted, running DWANG 1.6 ROM. I intend to do a full nandroid backup prior to testing, and will also delete quite a few of my apps prior to traveling since I don't want to have lots of data usage when I am overseas. When I get back home I will restore from my backup. Anybody see any flaws with this plan?
Thanks.

[Q] another question about unlocking

I received an unlock code for my hd7 from t mobile and instructions say insert foreign SIM card, my question is what do they mean by foreign? I've tried an inactive t mobile SIM but it doesn't work.
lol well in the wildest sense of the word, try a sim card from another country lol
but i think even using an att sim would do (for your unlocking purpose)
also: if you asked for the unlock code and got it, the whole point is that you can go abroad and still use the same phone
if you want to flash to another rom, then just ask a friend for a non-tmo sim to proceed with unlocking
I am planning on using the phone while on vacation abroad I just thought that it would be better to get it unlocked before.
