for those like me who wanted to get the chromecast today from the play store (https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=chromecast) only to find out that they are "out of inventory," hope is not lost. it's available on amazon too. if you search amazon for chromecast, at least for now, you get nothing (at least for now). it IS on amazon, just not available in the search results yet.
here is the amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DR0PDNE/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?redirect=true&ref_=tv_srch_google
get it while it's hot!
Would be much nicer if it allowed for mirroring of the device on the TV
Some Best Buys have them on sale now. I called the one near me they said they would have them tomorrow morning.

It's sold out from the Amazon as well. Free shipping ftw. I originally ordered from Play Store but cancelled immediately once I found out it was on Amazon. I wonder how much they're going for on Ebay right now...lol remember Nexus 4 release?

Does anybody know if I can plug this into my A/V receiver's HDMI port instead of my TV, would rather hear the sound through my HT speakers and not my TV's..
Would the chromecast then turn on the receiver and switch to the correct input? THAT would be just AWESOME..!
And in general, the auto turn on and switching input is triggered by sending a video/audio from phone/tablet/PC to chromecast?
I just realized, the link here removed that part about being Mediacast compliant. Not sure why Google didn't make it's own device so that the Nexus can stream to TV's like they initially advertised.
Also this thing isn't an Apple TV, which I realized the more I read into this. The content has to be on the cloud, so already uploaded somewhere like on Netflix or Youtube or even your Google Play account in order to work. You can't just take a picture or video or song from your computer/tablet/phone and send it to the TV. It really doesn't do much other than turn your phone into a remote control to play Youtube videos and things like that. Which is also why it can't mirror or anything, since it's not necessarily connected to your phone/tablet, other than that initial request to open a specific URL.

What receiver do you have? If it supports HDMI CEC it should work perfectly!

I don't know, still looks like it's simply opening the URL of the website onto the TV. Then again, this is a cut version, I didn't really watch the full version so I'm not sure. I'll check it up in a while and get back to you.
I wonder if this could be ported to a cheap arm board? The Chromecast receiver would rock on a Raspberry Pi.

At this price, and if you guys wanted it next week, dont bother to try Amazon or Best Buy. Pay a few more bucks and get it on Play Store. It's available as of now. Just ordered mine. BestBuy is out of stock and store pick-up is not available, so is Amazon
Did anybody able to get Youtube displaying the ChromeCast? I'm running factory 4.3 with Youtube 4.5.17 and just dont see the icon at all - as with Google Music ...
how would you play local content from PC like movies thru chromecast?

Anyway its freaking awesome!! Watching top gear in crystal clear hd playing off google movies/tv. Used my galaxy nexus. Gonna try next with the n7
Edit: apparently it also shows on your lockscreen sort of like how music will show the pause/play options.

I dont know if I am behind the curve on this one but this is so awesome! Check out the video on "Torque". That is what the "app" is called (at least on the android market). It has every gauge and even real time graphs you can save for data logging! Definitely ordering this for my phone tonight and will update when I receive it! If its half as cool as the video then for $35 bux what more do you want?!?!
http://ian-hawkins.com/
Its the 2nd video down!
I ordered the OBD2 Bluetooth unit for $28 shipped.
I got the OBD2 today in the mail (4 business days )and just went for a test drive around the block and I am really....really surprised how it seems like there is no lag in data. The gauges also show my coolant temp lower on the OBD2 (phone). The gauges keep track of the highest point (any parameter) and there is even an option for mpg average and instant! For $28 + $4.99 for the app (I am using the free app right now). This is the best/ coolest phone app I have seen. I know OBD2 data logging isn't the best and I will be installing a egt/ boost gauge in the future but this is what your truck computer reads and calculates its performance on so its good for me too!! You can pick what you want the program to data log then it updates the information to your profile on the app website.

First classic post of the Nook-ie season... Applause!!!
Nice work, I suspect your wife will now have banned you from going to B&N ;-)
I did the same thing today. Took it in to get a screen protector put on, and the people there freaked when they saw my screen. They absolutely loved it and couldn't believe how much it could do when I showed them all my apps. The guy said he knew it was possible, but mine was the first he had actually seen with it done.
I explained how easy it was to root and gave a quick rundown of the process. Showed him that it kept all it's original functionality as well as everything else it can now do. The guy was really excited.
Also, I had no problem connecting to the the in store WiFi. I thought I read somewhere of people saying that a rooted NC wouldn't connect, but not only did mine connect, but it did so automatically. No troubles at all, but I didn't try to use the free hour of reading, so can't confirm/deny anything with that.
I went into a BN today and had no problems connecting in store. I could not seem to get the free hour of reading though. Looked all over the online store. All I could do was the normal sampling of books I can do at home. There is also no 'In Store' feature like the regular B&W Nook.
Doesn't look like I'll be going to stores with it. Not a big deal as I have enough ePub books to last 10 lifetimes.

Are you a shy bookworm with big glasses and a checkered sweater vest? Can't talk to a girl if your life depended on it? The only woman who's seen your undies is your mother? Well head over to B&N and buy yourself a brand new shiny NookColor. Then head back home and log on to XDA Developers for the latest lady impressing NookColor rooting techniques. Once you've had your Nook nootered and gobs of apps downloaded (including of course that popular game about unfit bird parents and their pesky green pig neighbors) head back over to B&N with the pretext of wanting to try on a screen protector. Casually pull out your Nook (oooh boy!) and ask if they got something to cover it with! With you being socially awkward and all, I would avoid using expressions such as "I'm looking for some protection for my Nook" or "got anything to slip my Nook inside for warmth?" and please do not under any circumstance say "My Nook needs a jimmy hat!" Instead, ask politely about a screen protector or a carrying case. And while they oooooohhh and aaaaahhhh at your live wallpaper scrolling the Matrix code, you click on that game we were talking about earlier and let them play... For maximum effectiveness use the pool technique. Get behind the girl and direct her finger in the right spot. Pull gently... tap when needed.
And i'm off!

Does anyone have or have used one of the Google Tv boxes? I know they have one with Blu-Ray and one without. I really been wanting to get one but am trying to hold out until Sony drops the new NSZ-GP9 Blu-Ray Google Tv (This month I hope) But anyway I'm just trying to get some peoples thoughts on Sony Google Tv before I go out and drop $299 on it, is it worth it?

I bought the Logitech Revue right when it came out and returned it after a couple weeks. Kevin Bacon must have a lot of patience because it was SLOW. I think they dropped it down to $99 if you can still find one. I think that device tanked. My buddy has (one of?) the Sony BD Gtv boxes, but I've never used it. I'll ask him if he still has it and what he thinks about it.
Awesome thank you please do. Like I said there's two out right now one with Blu ray and one without, and then sometime this month they have a new one coming out with Blu ray and that's the 1 I'm looking into getting, but I'm still looking for user experiences with the past 2 Sony ones.

This thread was hard to find again, it got buried quick. I finally spoke with my buddy who has the old Sony BD Gtv.. I asked him if he would recommend it and he said he absolutely would, he's been very happy with it. He said he would buy it again. Hope that helps.
I love my GTV!!!!!
Hey guys!
I purchased the Sony stand-alone/bluray unit a little over one month after it came out. At first yes, the unit was slow and the browser was awful. But now after one major update (honeycombe) and a couple of extra security updates, it is the best unit I've ever had for my TV!
Only downside is not having DVR capability and (if you hitch for it, which I don't...) not being able to view Hulu directly from the browser. The "agent hack" doesn't work anymore, so you have to purchase montly and use Hulu+.....but it interfaces with my Comcast HD box (via HDMI) FAWLESSLY! the sony remote controls everything: TV, cable box and obviously the GTV
I love the search capabilities of the unit giving live TV + web, amazon and netlix results for things you search. Full Playstore access, widgets...I can't say enough fantastic things about it!
Fanboy? maybe a little
Hi,
I just wanted to ask this question. I searched the forum and could not get the answer I was looking for. Maybe it was asked , sorry if this is a repeat question.
The thing is, I want to get the Sony Bluray GTV1. I live outside the USA and I was wondering if, with the help of StrongVPN, use the GTV to the fullest in my country. We don't have the same cable providers as the US, but we do have digital cable. My theory is that if I connect my digital cable settop box to the GTV and use StrongVPN I will be able to get it to work. My biggest doubt is if the Search app will work with live tv content. Does GTV pulls data from the cable settop and parses it to show it on search results? Or does it rely on the location (ZIP code) and cable provided to pull the data from somewhere else?
How would I be able to configure a location during setup if I'm not in the US? I have a good idea where my cable provider pulls its feed, since NBC shows Fort Lauderdale local news i'd say its located there, however, not all channels come from the US, we also have south american channels and such. Will those show up on Search results?
Also, my cable provider gives me a DVR capable settop box, would that also work with GTV's DVR features and Pay-Per-View content?
Please help.
If I cannot get Search to pull results from my listings at my cable provider then its a deal breaker for me. I live in Costa Rica and my provider is CableTica.
Thanks.

I ended uo getting the newest one, the one without the Blu Ray player and I absolutely love it. I was trying to hold out for the new one with Blu Ray. It was set to be out in October but on the Sony website it still doesn't give an exact date so instead of waiting I purchased this one.

Previously listed at £29.99. Now sold for £12.90.
Code:
[url]http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/products/accessories/xperia-play-experience-pack-xp151/[/url]
Pack includes:
Multi media dock DK300
Pocket Micro USB cable EC300
3,5mm Music Cable MC100
3 free Gameloft games
Granted, the selection of GL games is a bit dated but when I bought one recently, the provided voucher code to claim the games didn't work (other people have had this problem) so I contacted GL support and was told to choose any 3 of the latest games for them to text/email to me. Can't go wrong with that imo :good:
Been this price for sometime, when I clicked on this I thought it was 55% off the £12.90.

Yes it will - check your phones box , mine came with one. Any usb car charger will work with the xperia play - as long as it has a micro usb end - I've used a few and they all worked.
EDIT- Also, the dock is and has been cheaper on amazon - so unless you want to pay £3 more for the games - just buy the dock, it includes everything minus the games. The pack is also the same price on amazon.

To answer your 1st question; it is worth it at the reduced price. I needed a dock and its good to have a branded one for the sake of reliability and knowing its safe to use. Last thing I need is another house fire due to dodgy electrics.
One thing I'll warn of is that the included mini usb connector is incredibly small and made practically useless by this fact, though luckily I had some decently sized spares anyway.
Secondly, I'm no great defender of Gameloft, what with there track record of botched updates and poor implementation of games which require tons of unmovable data to be stored on the phone. But in the case of customer support, I can't fault them. I've contacted them 3 times in the past. On one occasion to complain that the update to the Amazing Spiderman broke the game for us XP users, they said that they passed my feedback to the dev team and compensated me with the Dark Knight game. The second time was because I couldn't find a previously purchased game in my account, to this they sent me a permanent link to re-download it when I want. And the third occasion was as described in my original post. In my experience they've always been prompt and courteous. On my part, I've always been sure to explain clearly what my problems are and realistic in what I expect them to do about it.
How's the dock work when there's a case on the phone? I'm using the Trident case and it adds a bit of bulk to the phone.

I also have the Trident case and unfortunately, you have to remove the bottom half of the case (very easy) for it to fit. Little inconvenient to do but not in the slightest bit difficult because of the decent design of the trident case.

I've just become the proud owner of an Elgato EyeTV DVB-TV tuner.
I've been looking for a DVB-T tuner that works on a tablet for ages, tried to get one working on my Advent vega, wrecked my linux install on my laptop trying to generate the necessary files, so gave up on that one. Tried to get a tuner for my Sony Tablet S that was promoted in Japan for that tablet, I could'nt source one - very frustrating hunt.
Then I saw a post on here that mentioned the Elgato - did a search on Amazon and ordered it immediately, 4 days later I was watching tv on my Nexus 10 (also my Nexus 7 and my Note 2 - so a 3 way win for me).
The dongle is absolutely tiny, just a bit larger than a postage stamp and plugs in directly to the USB port on the N10.
It comes with a telescopic aerial which gets me all the freeview channels, even in the middle of my living room which is way better then my 7" portable that does not get any channels anywhere in my house !
For situations that require it there is also a cabled magmount aerial included, I've not needed this yet, but tried it in my house and got the same result as with the telescopic.
It also comes with an adapter that allows use with a laptop/PC/Mac so I suppose that makes it a 4 way win for me really.
The software is downloaded as an APK from the market for the Android devices, and is downloaded from Elgato's website for PC/Mac use.
The APK installed painlessly and when fired up, tuned in all the Freeview stations without any problems. Although the software is pretty basic, it does what's needed very well and I can't complain at all.
All in all a very pleasant experience, and I can wholeheartedly recommend this little beauty to anyone wanting TV on the go.
Nice find, been wanting something like this for ages. Can you please post a link to the exact item on amazon and also the play store software?

I couldn't find the device on the US store, so here's the UK store link so you can have a look at the device. If you are able to find one, make sure it's the "micro" version with a micro usb, there is an Apple version that looks identical except for the iPod type connector.
I forgot to mention in my original post that this device is only slightly larger than a postage stamp, tiny and very light.

Hope this helps

You did not find it in the US store because it will not work in the US it only works in Europe and some other countries. Check the Elgato web site for specifics.
