[Q] CWM back-up transferrable...? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, got a RAZRi, girlfriend has got one too. I rooted mine okay but her's didn't work out so well, just got stuck at the Unlocked bootloader Disclaimer screen. Couldn't find any stock GB JB roms on here so installed Omar's ROM but the SMS issue is a problem for her (loves it otherwise). However, has just occurred to me that if I did a CWM backup of mine and then restored that to hers, it should work.....or not.....?
Did a search on this and it looks as though in theory it works on other phones (Samsung GS2) but I wasn't sure if the RAZRi was the same or if it had some kind of Motorola evil-ness that ties it to the IMEI number or similar.
Any thoguhts much appreciated.

As far as I understand, transferring backups is how people flashed ROMs on the RAZRi before people started including installers in their ROMs.
Just make a backup of her current ROM. Install (restore) the one you want. And if it doesn't work, just restore her original backup. Nothing lost
Edit: I had the same problem with SMS. The fix was to flash the Motorola stock SMS app. Don't have quick reply, but at least it works. Hope that helps. If I can find you a link, I'll edit this post again.
Edit2: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4axsly6dqmsmv6g/MMSapk_by_shaftenberg.zip
Just flash that in cwm. Replaces the cm10 SMS app with Motorola stock. SMS, MMS both work and no double notifications.

Thanks for the reply, I had seen and tried that solution but I didn't realise that you had to flash it in CWM- I'd been trying to install the apk extracted from the zip....doh! What a doofus Cheers for your help, sorted now.

Happy to help

Cant restore CWM backup

Yesterday, I tried to change ROM (to check it out) so before this I did a backup in CWM.
What a surprise when CWM didnt restore this backup. I was looking through the internet for solution and I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15431672&postcount=24
I have same problem as in first post of this thrade (when restoring data, the whole process is stopped) but this solution seems to be for HTC Desire. What could I do if I want data back?
Please help me.
r u using same version of CWM to backup and restore?
new version not backward compatible with an older version backup
Yes, it is the same version

No no, i didnt change anything. The problem is described in that link, it seems that some versions of cwm have problem with restore and have to be fixed than the restore should work. But I dont know how to fix it.
Just simply update CWM to a newer version before restoring the backup.
I pushed the commit long time ago so any "recent" cwm (5.x) will solve the problem.
Hope this helps
Thanks a lot LinoX, but there is only CWM v4.0.1.5 for x8 on XDA.
Is it useful (should I try it?) or do I need newer version? (as you wrote 5.x.x)

if it is an unmodified build (from source) then yes (sometimes there're custom modified builds to add functions. Those recoveries can be problematic because they break more than they fix. Recoveries are really important and you should install only "trusted" ones.)
Try with this one and let us know if it suffices (I'm sure 5.x has the fix, I'm not sure if 4.x had it too...but you shouldn't do any damage..at most it will halt again when restoring)
It seems to work but after first restore there were many apps not be restored, so i did another one. It is better now but still there are about 5 apps not restored plus stock Internet browser (dont know if some other system apps too).
I think it is strange that after every restore there is not same result and not what was backuped at all.
Where could be a problem and is it worth to try restore until everything is restored?
It is true that backup was created by cwm3.2(seems ported from x10mini) included in gingerdx rom i use.

Oh, i realized something.
There was a problem with my SD recently. I couldnt copy one file from sd to pc. And antutu benchmark always crashes when testing card reading.
Damaged sd may causes problems with restore i mean.

maybe...
The last thing i'd like to ask.
Is there any tool with i could extract certain apps from the backup?

what is the latest cmw version for x8? v4?
thanks b4
I found as a zip file only v4.
But there is v5 in custom kernels included.

Hi, I have a nandroidbackup made using CWM 5.0.2.7. And I want to restore it. Now I have CyanogenMod7 and I have Clockworkmod 5.0.0.6.
So I copied the nandroidbackup from external_sd to internal_sd, and now when it shows up in my restore menu.
Is there any problem that the backup was made with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 and I restore it with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.6 ?

LG-P925g GC and RIP fix Rogers

Hi everyone,
I finally might have figured out how to fix the ghost call issues and the reorginizing internal process problem... it has been 10 days that I have had no ghost calls and no RIP.
After many hours arguing with LG (who after all 12 calls still said they never heard of this problem before). The only advice they could offer me was to send my phone to repairs.
I decided to do a final attempt and if it didn't work I would have sent my phone in 3 times to get a different phone and end this nightmare.
So I did a factory reset on my phone.
The problem was still there.
I heard about keeping the CPU above 600mhz all the time and while that temporarily worked it came back.
I loaded the recovery mode and factory reset from there and I also cleared the cache. that didn't work.
After more research I found that putting the phone in 2g will help. While this was true it was still happening but a lot less.
I decided to explore the world of Roms and that's where the fix came in.
My phone is rooted. Big thank you to Dan
I am running V20c 2.3.5
I Formatted my internal SD and my external.
I installed clockwork mod and backed up my stock rom... I then booted into recovery mode and cleared every cache option (2 on first screen and dalvik in advanced. The only exception was battery stats with CWM.
After doing all that, I had to leave so I figured I would look for a new rom another time. That was 15 days ago. After a week I realized that I haven't been getting the RIP or the GC problem... seeing as how it was hard to check I forwarded all my calls from my home office line to my cell phone so that if the call was not answered it would go to my cell after the 2nd ring. To this day (10 days later)... every call on that phone has been registered on my cell... therefore I believe that CWM IS THE KEY TO OUR PROBLEMS
*JUST NOTE THAT I SAVED MY SD CARD TO MY PC SO I HAD A EXTRA BACKUP SHOULD NEED BE.*
**WHEN I DID IT, I FORMATTED WITH CWM**
so after all that here's the process...
*WORKS ON V20C 2.3.5 ROGERS*
1. ROOT
2. FORMAT EVERYTHING (SETTINGS/STORAGE...)
3. VERIFY THAT YOU STILL HAVE ROOT (YOU SHOULD)
4. INSTALL CWM
5. BACKUP YOUR DEFAULT ROM (NEVER KNOW)
6. ENTER CLOCKWORK RECOVERY
7. CLEAR ALL CACHE EXCEPT BATTERY STATS (I DID NOT TOUCH ANY PARTITIONS OPTIONS)
8. GO BACK IN YOUR PHONE
9. DO NOT PUT BACK YOUR BACKUP ROM
***Remember this is working for me on Rogers V20c 2.3.5***
I made a titanium backup of all my Apps but I am not restoring them I am redownloading from scratch. I do not know if it will cause issues with the GC/RIP issues.
Good luck to all of you and I hope that you finally get to enjoy our cursed phones. I had RIP messages easily every 2 hours and for 15 days I haven't seen a single one and all my calls are working.
Thank you to Dan for Root and the Creator of CWM for saving us.

CWM isn't the issue. It's the baseband.
CWM is on a different partition than the baseband and is not active until it is called. Ghost calls still exist because 2.3.5 in general has this issue. 2.3.6 fixed ghost calls.

Never said that CWM was a problem I said CWM helped fix this issue
I posted this to help others who were looking for a solution it is still working for me so I'm happy and I figured id share my findings in hopes of helping others who got nothing to lose and everything to gain with this phone.
Have a good one.
I believe that CWM FIXED my phone

146 views and no confirmations or experiences... there is a 0% chance of bricking your phone.... come on guys try it and post... if it doesn't work for everyone else then at least people know. Help eachother out you got nothing to lose (if u back up) if ur scared for ur backups remove the external SD during testing or backup to ur PC.

Wait. You should remove the notices for BRICKING.
Reason being as it is only applicable to CyanogenMod. It has an option to use the sdcard for data instead. Stock doesn't.
Formatting sdcard and emmc in ClockworkMod will not and can not brick your device on a LG Firmware.
This, again, does not include CyanogenMod.
Now. As for fixing the problem, I've done this method and still have ghost calls.
You will ALMOST always get ghost calls with 2.3.5.

Hi Guys I was going off other information in other posts for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529836&page=2 talking about CWM and CyanogenMod.
I'm not an expert in this area and after reading this didn't want a lot of bricked phone so thought I'll better say something, have edited my post and removed the comment.
I have also tried this, worked for 3 days then a GC

I assume this because all devices friends have ranging from Nexus to Samsung to HTC with 2.3.5 had ghost calls and when they updated to 2.3.6, ghost calls disappeared. They were on stock as well.

Safestrap 3.05 help please.

I uninstalled the old version of safestrap, then installed the new version. I can do everything just fine (install, wipe, etc) but when I try to boot from the ROM slots, the phone just sits at a black screen.. I tried flashing Eclipse 3.0 and nothing happens.. help???

Well eclipse 3.0 hasn't worked for me. The latest cm10,aokp,and aosp boot for me as well as mavrom 4.5 and axiomcs 1.0. Have u tried any other roms aside from eclipse?
Sent from my XT862 using xda app-developers app
Don't think eclipse works with new Safestrap. I have tested CM10, AOKP, AOSP, and Steel Droid. Those 4 all are "working".
Steel Droid is the most stable one i have tried so far, CM10, AOKP and AOSP all lag for me.
Hey guys,
New to Droid 3/ Milestone 3 World here.
I just bought one, actually with the 5.2.390.XT860.Brasil.en.BR version.
I'm not exacly new to flashing roms, and recoveries, but in this case I'm a little confused. Is it possible to use SafeStrap on this one? Or better go for an older version of it?
Thanks in advance.
@Munckster, as long as it is rooted you can install safestrap 3.04 and try if custom roms work for you?? but make sure you have the correct SS3 version!!

I was thinking about trying... Maybe during the weekend..
Thanks for the advice, man!
I took my phone back to stock (from an oldish CM9 that had been working reasonably well for me for some time) so I could install SS3. Made the mistake of letting the phone OTA update itself and then had to find a new root hack before I could get SS3 installed.
Unfortunately the OTA update has messed with the radio, as reinstalling the CM9 I've used for months gets a system where the phone app just crashes.
The kexec cm9 on hash code's download site results in a black screen for me. I have to pull the battery to get the phone back. Funnly enough the old CM9 does boot - and every thing works except the phone.
The latest CM10 does every thing I want (I can live with out the camera) BUT I can't receive calls, the phone app crashes. (But I can MAKE calls!).
This is on GSM BTW, not CDMA where I live.
So i'm busted back down to the 'stock' OS so I can use my phone as a phone
And as a new XDA user I can't post my bug report in the developer thread.
Well,
I installed the 3.0.5 version. Works like a charm! The easiest to use recovery that I ever use.
But the question is: Is it safe to downgrade it?
Sorry about the dumb question.
SS3 can be un-installed pretty easily. Boot your 'stock' OS, then use the SS3 app to remove the 'hijack' and then reboot again. No SS3. Just remember to do it from the 'stock' OS and not one of the others.
Don't do what I did with SS2 - from a non stock OS, remove SS and reboot. Ended up with a phone that never finished booting before it rebooted. Fortunately the emergency recovery mode built into the phone worked to recover it.

Is the issue you're having that when you're speaking to people on the phone you can't hear anything and they can't hear you? Cause on CM9 there should be no issues with using it as a phone as long as you don't enable bluetooth ever or use buttons on a headset connected to your phone. I haven't tried CM10 yet so I wouldn't know too much about that. Just for some extra info to save your time do not flash Liberty or Eclipse, they don't seem to work. The newest Maverick works fine.

they are probably using a different version of messages so the only thing you could do is delete the message app off of liquid smooth and install the old version.
You can also try using a "fix permissions" app from the play store. They help with some FC's. I recommend rom manager.

[Q] No Service

Hey guys. Don't know if anyone else had this issue but I tried to flash miui Rom on my s4 from the port hosted on these forums. I am 99% sure I did everything correct but when I booted up I had no service. Tried a few fixes but none worked, tried flashing another Rom that was previously working and still had no service, and I even restored my original stock backup and have no service. I feel it may have been wiping my preloader because this is something I never had to do before. Is there any fix to this or should I restore to stock and unroot to take back?
Thanks ahead of time.
Sounds like you're asking in the wrong place. This is the forum for the GS4 Active.
