I used nrt to root my n7, I am not sure about the method you used. Also if you changed any build prop parameters, or any stock system apps, you must revert back to the original files before this ota update will work. The update will check your n7 to see if there were any mods to the original stock files. If you can't revert back to know what was changed then you may have to do a full flash of 4.2.2 then flash the update...
Try to write down the error message when you try to flash the update, that may give you some clues...

Something strange has happened. Today I flashed the topogigi GB rom. Before flashing, I updated CWM to the latest version (5.0.2.0?) and ran Backtoext3 even though I was already on ext3. The topogigi rom was corrupt (my fault) and wouldn't load. Also all my backups became unavailable in CWM. I ended up flashing an old Nightly which was my only choice. From there I rolled back CWM to the previous release (5.0.1.6?) and flashed an uncorrupted copy of the topogigi rom. Everything worked perfect.
A few hours later, I decided to try to restore my stock 10d backup. That was quite buggy. Among other things, my sim card was locked for a long while and then coming back. I restored my topogigi rom again, and it seems ok, except I have lost root.
What to do now? I wonder if the phone is unstable. Also I need root!
Search for the Superuser thread by ChainsDD, that'll sort out your root.

First you keep on trying different tricks and traps if none of those worked then use Smart Flash Tool and install the stock rom !!!
After you are done with full installation root your phone and install the CWM recovery !!!

Yes, as the bootloader isn't locked, any ROM can be rooted. If there is no exploit then NVFlash a recovery and root via that.

Sorry, but this is insane. If you can boot into CWM, then just flash this: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
Flashing a ROM (which already has root) then using SuperOneClick (redundant at this point)..?
Ya I am surprised how can one enter CWM when he is not a SuperUser !!!
But maybe that's why he titled as " Strange behaviour " !!!

Oh yaaa this is much better procedure !!!
Google just came out with a new update (JRO03D). Using the following method, you can apply it to your Nexus 7 and keep CWM and root.
Pre-requisites: Stock JRO03C Build. CWM Recovery. Root. NO CUSTOM ROMS. NO CUSTOM BUILD.PROP.
Step #1 - Backup your su app (root) with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.
Step #2 - Download http://core.routed.com/update.zip and put it in your /sdcard
Step #3 - Install update.zip via CWM.
Step #4 - Reboot tablet, and restore root via Voodoo.
Step #5 - Enjoy latest Google update!
My earlier version tried to keep the 'su' file suid-exec root, but that seemed to have caused failures for people, so I took that part out. I'll look into why in the morning. But for now, the above steps do work fine.
IF YOU TRIED MY EARLIER VERSION AND IT FAILED AT THE UPDATING OF PERMISSIONS, BACKUP ROOT AND INSTALL THIS FILE: http://core.routed.com/fix.zip
Thanks.
I think I should point out that this would probably not be a good idea to flash if you are using a custom ROM, since it's a bunch of patch files to the various applications on the device, which might differ depending on the ROM you are using. It should only be used on the stock ROM (outside of custom recovery and/or root).
It didn't work for me, and it aborted. Now my WiFi doesn't work and I dong know hot to fix it. I'll try in the morning.

Where did it fail? I installed it on mine (prior to posting this) and it worked perfectly. If it failed at the very beginning, you probably had validation enabled. Try disabling it and reapplying the update.
ALSO, make sure you had already applied the first update! The one that should have popped up when you first powered the device on. The above update I made is for the SECOND one, not the first. ie: JRO03C -> JRO03D. If yours is not the former, do not apply this, as the patching could fail.
I do not know. Do you think its because I have a custom kernel?

Possibly, but I don't think so. This doesn't change the kernel, only update a bunch of system apks, libraries and a few other files. Do you remember how far it got before it failed? It should have given a step-by-step update in the CWM logs:
ui_print("Verifying current system...");
ui_print("Removing unneeded files...");
ui_print("Patching system files...");
ui_print("Unpacking new files...");
ui_print("NOT Unpacking new recovery...");
ui_print("Symlinks and permissions...");
ui_print("Patching remaining system files...");

Also, check your "About" page to see what build you are currently on.
There's been about 30 people who have downloaded this so far. Any other feedback?

Ok, I figured out the problem. Here is the fix for you:
First, make a backup of your root. Use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.
Then, apply this via CWM:
http://core.routed.com/fix.zip
That will fix your permissions and wifi should work now. I'm going to update the OP now .

Hey guys, I'm about to go through rooting my Nexus 7. Its my first root, hell this is my first android tablet. What changes should i make, if any, based on the info in this thread, to the "How to Root Your Nexus 7 For idiots who have never Rooted anything before and have never owned a Android device before July 13th and want to be sure they do it properly without screwing anything up and keeping their files intact Guide 2.0" that i am hoping to find somewhere on this site (feel free to give suggestions for this as well but im pretty sure i saw a good thread). Ive already updated to the second 4.1.1 update today. thanks
Thanks for the files and easy instructions. :good:
Just a note if you modified your build.prop to enable the table UI you must restore your original for this to work.
The first time I tried it failed due to the build.prop differences. I quickly restored my original and reapplied with no issues.

Hello guys, as a friend was having trouble with her sgs+, i had to install a custom rom, and i had a samsung phone before and i know the procedure, so i first installed the official CWM for sgs+ and tried to install blazr rom battery edition.. it got installed, and when i press reboot, it was rebooting to recovery only... then i was a bit tensed as it was not my phone, and thought of installing other recovery and try other rom afterwards, i installed feamod recovery and the rom was booting normally, and it was fine, but the rom isnt good and she wanted some other rom, and then i downloaded ehndroix rom and when i try to install it, i get a code 7 error ( 'assert' some error) and i know that this problem is because the phone isnt being detected as sgs+, i tried installing different roms, with different recoveries but the same code 7 error, then i installed brood rom rc5 via odin and its doing well, but she really wanted enhdroix rom and i still get code 7 error while installing roms, please can someone tell me how to fix the code 7 error? or are there any other custom roms for sgs+ which can be installed though odin?
your help would be greatful, please :crying:

If you are absolutely sure the rom is for your device you can remove the assert lines from the updater script. These are usually the first couple of lines in the script. But if the rom is not for your device and you bypass the assert.....well then you could have a nice brick.

Before you do that, make sure you have the latest version of cwm. You can get the error 7 with an older cwm and the newer roms. The assert lines are pretty obvious. Just delete the lines that start with assert. Extra the rom zip and with your way down to the updater script and open it with notepad ++

If you have unlocked the bootloader and installed a custom recovery then you can boot to recovery and backup your current rom. You can then flash a custom rom with superuser and see if it works.

Have you tried flashing the stock, rooted ROM in my signature as others have suggested on some of your other duplicate posts?

The link that you have referenced was uploaded by a member who is no long associated with Team Viper and I for one do not feel that it would be right to upload and repost this ROM without Team Viper's consent or knowledge. That's just how I roll and hope others in this forum would agree.
