Hi guys, I am officially screwed.
I had stock rom (unrooted) on my Note till yesterday. Suddenly it was just showing the GT N7000 screen and wont go forward even upon restart. Even the Samsung logo wouldn't appear on restart. So I went into recovery mode, installed PhilZ-cwm6 - Safe Stock Based Kernel from SD card, and wiped data, cache and dalvik cache and restarted without any problem. (Ofcourse all my data was gone but no problem)
After restart the Network signal was good, Data was working (could send and receive whatsapp etc.) ,however when tried to make a call it displayed "Not registered on network error".
On pressing the power button the screen turns off but does not get locked, main page is shown as it on pressing the home key.
There is no power menu too. The device would just turn off completely on pressing power button to access the power menu (Menu with restart and other options).
I flashed with custom Paranoidandroid rom but it displayed no network signal, so I tried flashing stock rom again with ODIN but the above problems still persist. Also, strangely there was no setup screen on starting the phone (which has always come on flashing a rom).
Read some where about keystr file being missing. Checked the /efs/imei/keystr it all there with text as ON in it.
Please help. I have messed up this phone many a times but was always able to recover it thansk to xda threads. I am even taking a leave from office for today.
Check your IMEI. Does it start with 0049...? The symptoms you wrote are typical for a developer IMEI.

Depends...
Your IMEI isn't the original anymore (remove battery and you'll find a sticker with your original one). This happens sometimes - I never saw an explanation why and when - when you install a Custom Rom.
If you didn't backup your /efs-partition you can't get it back by yourself. There is a member who offers a solution (he connects remotely to your device/PC and restores the old number) for small money (see cvxcvx.pl).
Workarounds:
- Change your SIM Pin every time after a reboot (you can simply use your old pin as new pin again, this works). Then you'll have a working SIM and network connection.
- On a TW based ROM you'll have to use an android.policy.jar from a leaked ROM (XXLSC). I used this because it doesn't check the IMEI and so you do not have the restrictions like you wrote: no SIM Pin request, no menu, immediate Power shutdown. I used this with my Pristine Roms because I have this developer IMEI since a repair in Thailand...
- Switch back to GB, it doesn't have the IMEI check too.
My actual workaround: disabled SIM Pin and using my own build "Pristine CM10.1".

Thanks, I guess I'll just need to take it to service centre. Could you please tell me how to go back to Stock ROM and Kernel so that there are no counters or root that may make Samsung ppl not repair the phone.
I was able to get back Lock screen and Power menu using instructions to recover imei here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
with little modifications to it as I could not find original file.
However, my IMEI is still the fake one and still can't register to network.
Also the set up screen appeared on doing the above procedure.
Changing SIM Pin isn't helping in registering to network.

I had Cyanmobile Initial A on my galaxy mini. I restored Cyanogenmod7 RC 5.7 using CWM restore.
After that, my mobile never had signal.
When I dial a number, it says ' No mobile Network available '
Signal strength is zero on status bar. With a x i.e. no signal
2. I then did a clean install/ flash of CM7 RC 5.7 still same problem.
3. I also did system format through CWM, still same problem.
4. I then flashed 2.3.4 Russian stock ROM using ODIN, coz it has some MODEM file when flashing through ODIN. Still same problem.
When I try to turn on FLIGHT mode, it gets stuck there, i.e. the option is faded always ( like its trying to go to flight mode) and after sometime( may be screen off, ) the fade goes away.
Call Settings in Stock 2.3.4 is faded, i.e. cannot select it ( like what happens when phone is actually in flight mode, but in my case even flight mode is unchecked in settings, but when I long press power button, I see Flight mode is ON, but it is faded option.)
I stock 2.3.4, my phone is always in flight mode, status bar shows airplane icon, but when I long press power button it displays flight mode is off HELP
I have attached screenshots for you to see. See Plane icon on status bar, but power menu says flight mode is off.
What do I do? Please HELP me to solve this problem.

Solved! Sim was damaged!
I found that sim card is damaged.
I suspect that all the process of restore and flashing did some damage to my sim.
And does anyone in XDA know how to restore a bad sim card. Or I just buy a new sim. And I started a new thread because no other related thread answered such question. So I guess restore and flash may have a potential to damage sim card.
Anyways I'm keeping this thread alive for other people who may have similar trouble. Or moderators may delete this thread if they wish.
Thanks for anyone who answers to this post.

your network carrier should be able to replace your sim card.

i dont know why this process can damage your simcard..
maybe it's the time for you to change your sim..
And I suspected that your Sim damaged, but not seen the case or experienced that Sim damaged through Flashing ROM's
Also you may have accidentally hard forced pushed the Sim in the slot, damaging it.
Maybe you should try it with another sim card?

New twist! My sim is locked!!!
Thanks all for posting on this thread.
Today I put back my old sim in galaxy mini, then I went inside Location & Security > Set up Sim lock. I found that sim lock was on ( checked ). I never set up a sim lock, and my old sim was never locked. but now its locked.
I live in India, and I have a BSNL sim. I don't know sim unlock/ lock code, I had tried 0000, 1111, etc, but couldn't unlock.
I think, if I'm able to unlock the sim( may be PUK, or by lock code), then maybe my sim somes back as normal.
May be this explains that flashing process may have locked my sim.
I put the same sim in sonyericsson w200, it screen stuck at saying 'Insert Sim'. But Galaxy mini, shows I'm in Flight mode.
PUK help? Not working.
I got PUK from BSNL carrier.
I put that sim in and in dialer dial this:
**05*«PUK Code»*«Your new pin»*«Confirm your new pin»#
But it does not work. It says
Connection problem or invalid MMI code
See screenshot.
So PUK does not work..
What is MMI code and how to get a valid MMI code?
Please suggest some help.
Solved!!!
My sim was locked. maybe Cyanmobile Initial A locked it, I changed the sim, (PUK wasn't working), now everythings fine.
I'm keeping this thread alive, it may help some body in future because this topic was not properly answered in similar earlier XDA posts.

Congrats, u got solution by yourself... I'm also using this rom. Have you tried USB mass storage, its not working for me

USB storage is working for me.
USB storage is working for me.
Try reflashing the ROM.
Quick background:
- I have an International version, sourced from Latin America
- I have rooted the phone but NOT custom ROM
- I have Straight Talk service
The phone was just working fine for almost 1 month, can receive call, SMS, etc. Just today, I shutdown the phone and took out the microSD card and SIM.
I copied some files to the microSD card using a reader and left the phone with the SIM and battery out for about 30 minutes.
I put the microSD, SIM and battery and rebooted the phone. Suddenly, I got Emergency Calls only!
I have tried to "fix" it but to no avail:
1). Looking at the 3 PIN in the SIM slot, they are all INTACT, nothing bend or broken or lopse
2). The SIM card works - tested it in another 2 different phone and can make calls, etc.
3). I did CWM recovery to a backup from 1 day ago (when the phone still works)
Anyone have this experiences or my phone just DEAD?
weird...
try do the hard reset (try not to restore anything yet), if still doesn't change anything... flash new radio (LC1)
I disassembled my Note using the instructions from here to check if any of the 6 (SIX) SIM Card connector is bent and it is NOT.
I am putting it back together now and will do factory reset (this is what you meant by "hard reset", right?). I will post back with updates/
PS: this is INDEED weird. The phone works OK, Wifi works, sound works, screen works, microSD card is readable, everything works EXCEPT the GSM connection! And I didn't even mess aroud with the custom ROM/kernel/radio!
did u test other sim card on that phone yet?

I don't have an extra SIM card. What I did was take out the Straight Talk (ST) SIM card from my Note and put it in another unlocked GSM phone (Nokia N73). The Nokia N73 works with the ST SIM.
I just did a "Factory Reset" and still the same thing.
Before I try the radio flash, what will this "software" do to the Note modem? I am just curious how it will fix it.
BTW, my Baseband vesion is "BKK1", and I don't see the radio for this baseband in the link you provided. Which one should I use?
PDA: N7000UBKK2
PHONE: N7000UBKK1
CSC: N7000UWHKK2
flashing the radio doesn't effect your rom... try them.
try to borrow your neighbor sim card first before flash new radio.

Try to clean the Sim slot.
Yes, I tried cleaning the SIM slot. I have been very careful with my Note since day 1.
Someone mentioned that they have the same problem and was able to fix it by flashing STOCK ROM back.
I searched in the development section and could not find ROM for my phone (N7000UBKK1). Do you have any idea where I can get this from?
Well, looks like my phone is toast. I have tried the following:
1). Wipe data, cache, Dalvik and restore to CWR backup --> NO GO
2). Do a "factory reset" --> NO GO
3). Install stock firmware using Odin --> NO GO
NOTE: had to search for stock firmware on the Internet since it is NOT available in XDA
The only thing I haven't tried is flashing the modem firmware, but this is NOT available anywhere in XDA either.
The ST SIM card works because I tried this on two other GSM phone. Only the Note show "Emergency Call Only" message.
So now I have a $600 media player that I can't event sell. I guess serves me right for buying an International version with ZERO warranty and just happen that there is NO modem firmware for my phone.

LOL
Anyhow,
I found out the solution to this problem by accident, and there doesn`t appear to be a solution anywhere else on the internet. Turn off your phone and restart it. As soon as you are able to do so, open up setting, or any other app. When your phone goes into cool down mode, hold down the home button. A screen will come back asking you to select an app. Select whatever you opened prior to cool down mode (If you need to get into settings press the search button and search for settings after your out of CDM). You then need to do two things. Go to Running services (Settings>Applications>Running services), find detect battery service, touch it and stop it. To the best of my knowledge, it doesn`t do anything to your phone, other than activate cool down mode. Then go to manage applications (Settings>Applications>Manage applications) press your menu button and select filter> all applications. Find Battery protect, click on it, and select force stop. This allows your phone to get reception. You will have to do this every time your phone starts up, but it isn`t too much of a hassel for a truely excelent phone. The Cool down mode problem is definitly a software fault.

HELP!!
I have also had this same problem. My phone is STOCK I have not touched it. got the phone on last Monday working fine until the battery level ran right down yesterday, then I got message to "insert sim card!", ever since re-starting the phone I no longer can make calls!. I had no intension of rooting or messing with this phone and decided to wait until official ICS, but now what do I do?, is this a common problem?.
Tried previous instruction on this post, but unable to find any battery service running on the device.
Please help!!
I now also have this issue after updating to the latest firmware via Kies.
UPDATE: I got mine checked and it looks like the replacement unit I got had its SIM card broken. Dodgy eBay seller.
Just fyi, never insert MicroSim card adaptor in Galaxy Note. Mine works now after spending $100. Jeez
FYI, I tried all of the suggested solutions in this thread and I still have problem. So I returned the Note and got the AT&T version... At least now I got US Warranty
Same thing just happened to my phone. Rogers Galaxy note II.
Tried bunch of different SIM cards, none work.
Got the SIM reader app, phone reads SIM just fine. Data connection also works, but refuses to make voice calls "emergency only".
So pissed, wanna throw this phone against the wall.
Did anyone find a solid solution? Mine did this today, Stock never been rooted or anything! Any ideas?
Hi there,
I am by no means an expert on any of this, but I've come across an issue what makes my phone unusable even though I have only had it for a month or so.
After getting the phone, a friend of my flashed Slimrom (version 1) for me on my phone. I've flashed myself before, but I had no idea how to get the device rooted for me. That went well untill I got a message of "full storage" last night, even though there was about 60% empty internal memory left. After some moving around I decided to factory reset, and when that didn't work reflash the ROM.
The issue seemed resolved however for some reason my phone no longer recognizes my simcard. My simcard still works (tested it on a different phone) but it never asks for either the pin didgets. If I try to go to to mobile services it just says "error could not find any mobile networks" and even after flashing the newer rom Version 2,5 and now flashing CarbonRom I can't get it to work!
I am left clueless, if anyone could help me out it'd be great as I am really dependant from this phone!
You have a so called developer IMEI now (starting with 004999...). Please check this.
This is the reason why the sim card isn't recognized anymore.
You can change the simcard pin after each restart and it works.
Or use one of my Roms with a workaround (I have this IMEI problem too).

Thank you so much for responding! If I try to retrieve the IMEI by typing in: #*06*, all I get is a blank. I however was able to find it with a sticker inside the phone. I guess there isn't a simple command to getting this changed. I can't even find the simcard pin change in my settings, it's not in the security tab atleast.
I will do anything for a ROM right now just to be able to get my service up and running, but I'd like to fix the phone for the long run. Any idea on how this is best achieved?

Blank ist the other version of a ruined IMEI.
Search here in the forum: there are some threads regarding backup of EFS and restoring IMEI (if you made a backup before).
And one member is offering to repair the IMEI if you can proove that you have the original (the sticker). See his website http://www.cvxcvx.pl/?lang=en
Alternative: try my Pristine XXLSZ v1.9 with the workaround I use all the time without problems. After you can be sure if it is only the IMEI problem or something more difficult with your sim.
Hi folks, I have problem with my LG optimus 4x p880 phone. Today phone doesnt read sim card. I discovered that when i asked my imei number via *#06#, it said "null". So my phone cannot connect the operator. How can I fix imei null problem? Thanks :good:
none knows?
I had the same problem...
In my case, as far as i can tell is hardware related.
At first I thought it as a bad flash, so i tried (after reading every possible threads) to flash a stock kdz.
I cant flash the kdz, because stucked in 10% (error 207).
So i opened the phone, checked if the connections were ok.
Didn't work... Still stucked in 10%.
So i used brute force, and start to press the phone very hard near the edges, near the the sim. Magically the lg flash tool pass the 10% and flashed the stock rom.
But the null imei and baseband persisted.
I tried once again the brute force and it works, but i cant turn off or reset the phone, because the baseband and the imei return to unknown
The connection take some time to occur.
Hope that can help.

Not every time, but work 1 in 5 times. With the phone off i remove the back cover and start pressing near the edges, and near the SIM, then i turn on the phone still pressing. I keep pressing until the phone signal appears. Normally i wait 5 minutes, because sometimes when the phone starts the baseband is still unknown, but then, like magic the signal returns and the baseband and imei appears.
However, when i turn off/restart the phone the issue returns. (very annoying). Hope it works with you.
Need Help "LOST IMEI and Baseband Unkonwn"
I was using Euporia 5.0.1 on LG 4x
I received update notification and I downloaded Update.zip ( which included to 5.1)
By mistake i flashed the zip directly from CWM ( without Formatting any partition )
after restarting there was no IMEI
Following things I have tried
1) Trying to flash Original V20C KDZ. via LG Flash Tool. ( I think it checks for IMEI , and that's why stuck in between)
2) Use LG Software Update tool. ( also can't progress with IMEI)
3) Flashed Original V20c Flashable zip from CWM (But it didn't restored my IMEI)
4) Contacted LG Service Center, and They say You need to change whole Motherboard. ( I was Shocked to know that )
:crying:
If anybody went to same problem. and resolved .
Please Guide me.
I DO have an EFS backup backed up to Google Drive before I started messing with stuff so that is a non issue. I also have the box if it can be manually programmed somehow.
Here is what happened. At work today I was on T-Mobile WiFi calling. I disabled WiFi because I wanted to use LTE (which I get strong signal at work). After disabling WiFi, the device would not connect to cellular. I rebooted the phone thinking it would fix it for sure, then the SIM card wasn't detected and my IMEI shows blank, and my baseband shows as unknown. In bootloader mode it does show the correct radio and bootloader though. Also when I go to "Barcodes" from bootloader it shows the correct IMEI, serial number, etc...
Things I have tried so far:
-Flashing the entire MOB31T Marshmallow factory image with fastboot
-Flashing the entire N6F27H Nougat factory image with fastboot
-Restoring original EFS in TWRP
-Restoring known good ROM backup of all partitions including EFS in TWRP
-Flashing different ROMs besides stock
-Flashing back and forth between different radios using fastboot
-Testing my SIM in another device (it works). Testing another SIM known to be good in my device (still shows no SIM, IMEI blank and baseband missing)
-"fastboot erase xxxxx" on the 3 EFS partitions mdm1m9kefs1, mdm1m9kefs2, and mdm1m9kefs3 and trying combinations of the above
Last ditch effort I flashed stock firmware image and locked the bootloader. Now my phone has a locked bootloader, and I can't go into developer options. I can tap it 5 times to enable the option, but then when I press it the screen goes blank.
What do you get when you dial *#06# in the phone?
If a series of numbers or null, I think it's software and I'd go back to basics flashing a complete, clean factory image. Bootloader, modem, everything. Then, if you still have the problem, again restore your EFS.
If those steps don't work taking it to a cell phone repair center may be the best choice. They should be able get you going pretty fast using their test box.
If nothing is there, I think that means you have a hardware problem. It probably means a new motherboard.

When I dial that it brings up a box that says IMEI bolded, but then nothing below it like it's empty. Then an OK button. So I'm guessing it's a hardware failure.

Take it to a repair center and see if they can confirm. It shouldn't cost too much just for a verification.
Try a "fastboot erase all" followed by either a flash-base (bootloader and radio), or flash-all (entire stock ROM), then wait like 5-10 minutes after the first boot and see if cellular works.
