Working AOSP Group MMS? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone I was just wondering if there is an aosp MMS.apk around that actually has working group messaging? When on a GE ROM or AOSP and having group messaging checked I am still getting individual texts from users in the group chat message and when I reply to the chat the end user is getting my text as an individual text...
Any clues would be outstanding!

[REQ] ICS Stock Text Messaging App for NS4G

**EDIT**
DONE! AOSP is the man, ya'll This thread can be closed!
ICS Messaging App for Nexus S 4G can't split messages, well, it does, but they come out all jumbled up. And, it can't send or recieve pictures. So, I'm asking if anyone of the bada** dev's can fix it. I know it's been fixed in GB, I'd like it to be fixed for ICS.
I've tried MOST of the ICS ROMS available for NS4G and every one is the same in this regard, if I'm wrong and there is a ROM that addresses this, please let me know... Thanks!
Also, I've tried Handcent and GoSMS, they both do the same thing on ICS, so, if it's not the app and it's the code for this release of ICS, please let me know. And I understand that CMDA phones don't contain the feature to split SMS, but my phone hardware hasn't changed from GB to ICS and this worked for me with GB, so shouldn't it be able to be done?
Any takers?
I'm sure when the cm9 release candidates come about you will receive exactly what you are looking for. My guess is it wasn't a stock GB rom you were running when you had the 160 split.
There is NO 4G on the Ice Cream Sandwich roms. Check back in January.

Yeah, it was Oxygen on GB...
So is it because of the ROM and not the app?

I'm just going out on a limb here and say yes. Either that or the SMS code was edited on gb to allow it and no one has figured it out on ics?

If you've tried handcent and go sms then you would know they both have an option to split messages if you look in the settings menu right?

Yeah, they both actually do it by default. However, when the text comes through, it's jibberish. The stock ICS app actually splits the messages by default (at least the one in all of the ROMS I've used) but the messages come out on the other end as jibberish.
I'm using chomp SMS

Market says that my device is not compatible with that app...

OK, I just sent an MMS (random pic from gallery) to myself and it worked. I'm running aops's ICS 4.0.1 with working MMS.
As for splitting SMS and getting gibberish, haven't come across that yet on this rom as I haven't had a chance to send longer than 160 words SMS's yet.

I'm running the same ROM....
So the only pics I had tried to send before reading this post was a screenshot from the phone. It just hung and said it was sending.... would sit like that for days.
So, I sent myself a gallery photo and it worked. After that I tried a screenshot and it worked! One of the messages I had tried to send two days ago all of a sudden went through and my friend got it. So he sent me a screenshot of his phone and I was able to download it, which didn't work before either. Very strange.
Another oddity is that now when I reach 160 characters, I can't type anymore. Before I could type multiple messages at once but they would be jumbled up on the other end.
It's dumb, I know, but I feel like sending that gallery pic "reset" my messaging app. I hadn't done anything different prior to sending that gallery photo...
Very strange, but I can live with it. Tiny price to pay for ICS.

To get the texts to go out and not be jobberish you have to add the counter option in handcent or gosms. There is an option in handcent where you have to add the counter and split the text.. so when it sends out a text that is over 160 characters... it labels it 1 of 2 and 2 of 2.. This will get rid of the jibberish and fix your issue..
But you are correct a developer will have to add this option for the stock app to work right...
Hope that helps and is understandable..

Correct. Oxygen was one of the few that split correctly. Its all in the xml edits
I'm on AOSP oICSv21 and the stock messaging app does not allow texts over 160. I would love the ability to split messages again. That seems like such a base feature to be left out...

you guys know that the source code out isn't for cdma, right? just chill out and wait for the cdma version of the rom and then it will work. it's close to impossible to modify the apk to split sms automatically.

um that is how it first came about. Someone modified the apk for stock SMS on the evo 4g. He released it here on xda and then pushed it to the Cyanogenmod git. That is how cm7 got messaging split. Stock gingerbread does not split. Not even on the nexus s 4g.

[Q] SMS/MMS Messaging

Does the Atrix HD have the ability to send and receive group messages in a threaded format (like a chat room / iphone group messaging). I heard that it can, though I don't know of any other android that can do it without a 3rd party app so just wanted to make sure.
Yeah it works with iPhone group chat

Group messaging

Hi
On my HTC I was able to send group text messages to just mobile numbers that i had setup in gmail but on the xperia T it sends it all numbers associated with that contact. So my group of 58 ppl becomes 93 numbers. Is that an xperia T problem or my custom ROM.
Thanks

ok, I am on that rom and i dont have any groups set up, i will test it tomorrow and let you know
Just downloaded from play store group text, and it had an option to show mobile numbers only, and no limit to number of recipients u can send to so, got there in the end but HTC did it as standard just thought xperia could do it too.
Thanks for looking into this. Would like the stock apps to do this.

i have just set up a group to test it and when i goto the group and choose send group message it gives me a list of numbers to choose for each member in the group.
There is also an option to "remember the selection" so next time it will just pick that number....
So it does work in stock message app...

Mass mailing

On my HTC One I have a group with 218 contacts in it. I am using the stock app. I really like it and don't want to change, because it allows me to import group to bcc.
The email will not send. It tries to but says it can't send.
I can do it from my computer, and smaller groups (like 20) send fine.
Any thoughts from the experts?

Its prob a restriction of like 100 people or something close to that. The desktop Outlook client for Windows only allows, I believe, 150 recipients per email so I would imagine the restriction on the HTC app is prob similar. You will most likely have to break that large group into like 2 or 3 smaller groups instead.
Thank you

Text Message App?

Just wanted to see what app people are using... I don't like how we can't customize the stock app like years past...

I us googles messenger.
I'm using the Verizon messenger. I like the fact that I can send MMS over wifi while on the phone, especially since you can't have data while on the phone.
I am using the Google Messenger app for sms and mms. It's the best out there and so simple. Beast part is that you can send or receive mms or group messages through wifi too
I am currently using Textra. in between SMS apps though.

Anyone having an issue copy and pasting phone numbers into a new text on Google Messages? I have to paste it into the text body unfortunately it doesn't let me paste into the recipient box.

That's weird. I am not having those issues.
I'm using 8sms, you can go dark or light, and it works flawlessly. Also gives you that aosp holo blue dark look.
Currently using Hello SMS. I love the simplicity of it. Having it in tabs is also a plus. I don't have any MMS issues with this app either. Textra is a good one too, but I would have occasional MMS issues.

Another vote for the new Google Messenger. Substantially improved and I really like the Material Designyness of it
I use Hangouts, not the best but as I do as much or more instant messaging as texting and often with the same recipients the merged threads are an overriding benefit that keeps me coming back to it.

I agree, Textra all the way.. I did like the material design aspects of google's messenger, but the overall customization of Textra is hard to beat.. I really liked Textra when I had a notification led.. but sadly that isn't available on the Turbo
I had major MMS issues while using Textra. I like the app, but not being able to send pics was a bummer.
