Hi. Long time iPhone user but new to Android as of two weeks ago. Bought the HTC One (AT&T) and am loving it so far.
However, I have been having issues concerning notifications through a couple apps. Specifically the MLB At Bat app and the CNN app. Let me start by saying that I have received notifications without issue when it comes to email, texts, and Facebook.
Now, with At Bat, I have notifications set up in the settings for the app (specifically for my favorite baseball team), and I technically do get notifications. What I mean by that is, if I happen to turn on my phone, I will see that a notification previously came in. However, I do not receive any audio or vibration feedback to accompany the notification. So, the phone doesn't actually alert me. The same case is true with the CNN app. In the settings for the app, I have set up to receive notifications for breaking news. Again, I technically get the notifications sent to my phone, so they will be there when I happen to check the phone for whatever reason. But when the notification is sent, I am not alerted in any way (no tone or vibration).
As I said before, I get notifications (accompanied with audio tone and vibration) without issue when it comes to emails, texts, and Facebook. I have scowered the system settings and the settings on the individual apps but everything appears to be in order. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you fine folks can provide.
edit: Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, but nothing has changed.

I am using the built in email app to connect to my Exchange server and I have my phone with me at work like most people.
What I experience is a message will come in to my mailbox, instantly I get the notification in both Outlook and the N1. I will read the message in Outlook, decide to keep it (mark it as unread)/delete it (move it to deleted items) and the N1 will keep notifying me via Trackball glow that I have an unread message even though I've read it.
If I read or delete a message on the N1 it is always pushed back to the Exchange server (and consequently Outlook) immediately.
Anyone else experience this? It is okay when I am not near Outlook, but when I'm in the office it is very annoying to be alerted about messages that I've already read or deleted.
This type of behavior is not happening on my iPhone 3GS when I had it connected and this type of behavior does not happen for my GMail account on the N1.
I actually believe the update to a message from read to unread may actually get pushed to the device they just don't clear the notification. I can confirm this by going in to the mail app and I noticed all the changes I've made are up to date.
The issue seems to be that the notifications won't auto-clear on the N1 once the changes have already been pushed to the phone. This really sucks
Can anyone confirm my findings? Thanks
I can also confirm this. The notification has to be cleared manually. Once the notification is there it's there until you acknowledge it.
Froyo, Desire, they all do that. Notification doesn't clear automatically apparently. Would be nice if it did. Once a check of unread/read is done, just clear the alerts once open/moved etc..

Google Mail notifications will clear automatically so it is definitely something they left out inadvertently. I hope they can fix it soon.
I switched back to my iPhone for the time being because of this. Does anyone know if there have been any attempts to fix this issue in 2.3?
Thanks.
Note 4 rooted, with newest update as well, running Nova. Using the default SMS Messaging app
4 issues I have been having.
1.) When I get SMS, the notifications in the dropdown won't go away.. even when I am in that person's SMS chat.. I have to swipe it away. This happens randomly.
2.) When I am chatting with someone on SMS and in the dialog screen, the phone does not vibrate or have a sound alert that lets me know they replied. I have put down the phone a few times not realizing that a reply had been sent, but my eyes were not on the screen to be alerted to it. If the screen is off or in another app, then I get sound and vibrate alerts.
3.) When I get a few new SMS backlogged, instead of showing me the names of my contacts texting me, it shows me their phone # and messages in the dropdown.
4.) This is random.. I got a call from my gf this afternoon, and before it pulled up my contact info for her (from my gmail contacts list), it pulled up her full name like a caller ID from back in the day.. Her full name is not in my gmail and her linked email is a hotmail address(but that doesnt have her full name either). Why did this happen and how can I have it for other people that arent contacts in my phone book?
The first 3 items are probably bugs in the Messaging app.. I think I remember #4 being offered by T-Mobile as a paid extra.. but I am definitely not paying for it.
I'm just having issues getting Gmail notifications to come through. Even when enabling notification through label settings.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
#4 is probably the Tmobile NameID app. if i recall, there was a notification on my phone after the first bootup about a free trial or something. it displays caller ID for all numbers, supposedly, even for "unknowns" and such. since i disabled all the tmobile bloat ive not seen it come up. if you turn off the program in application manager it should stop working.
I searched Google and seen many with the same issue, but no solution. The issue is getting no text notifications sometimes. I get the text message but no sound or badge number saying a text came in. It's so random I can be texting a person back and fourth. I get 99% of notification a text came in example a sound and visual iindication but a few slip in with out so much of a beep. I did a factory reset, I made messager notification high priority, and I have no other message app. Is it because of Oreo? Is because of Google? Or is just Samsung app broken? No idea, but it kills me.

I've seen the same issue. In addition to pissing me off I have the wife asking why I'm ignoring her messages! I rebooted and that seemed to remove the problem for a large window of time but I've heard of no concrete root cause and solution.

Same here that's why I turned off read notification in messages for TMobile. So the wife does not complain about it.
I read somewhere it might be Google app. I uninstalled updates and disabled it and will report back.
Ok 24 hours later I must say big difference. All text come in and notifications from a Islamic app about prayer times is no longer late. So is it google app? Maybe because I also removed anti virus software. I am add google back on and see what's up.
How sad.... Within 5 mins it started again... It's the google app.
it's usually happen to me when the text app is on-screen, in the foreground. when the app in the background, I get the notification

For me it's both. Phone in my pocket screen off and I get nothing. Only thing that saves me sometimes is my s3 watch. It shows the notification and the phone nothing
The subject says it all -- I run Google Messages for SMS because I use messages.android.com pretty regularly. However, it doesn't play audio notifications in the always-on screen -- it vibrates and shows the icon. I've been through every setting I can find. It plays notifications if the screen is fully on.
I did use the LG app to move from a G6 to the V40, but I did a "clear data" on the Messages program afterwards since it had my contact/message history all mixed up. (Thought it was interesting that it was able to restore some of the messages after clearing -- I suppose T-Mobile has a certain amount of history stored.)
I've thought about asking in the Google product forums but support quality over there is dismal, at best.
I've had the same/similar experience and I'll clarify.
When the screen open and I'm already texting "in that thread" there is no sound, but it does vibrate.
However, it will audio a notification and vibrate if a text comes in on another thread.
BTW: I'm using Message+ through Verizon ... so we seem to be experiencing similar situations using different texting apps.
It behaves the same way when e-mailing. If I've got an e-mail thread open and another email comes into that thread, then it'll only vibrate, however, it'll make an audible sound and vibrate if it's a new e-mail or part of another e-mail thread.
Don't know why and can't find a solution. I don't care when it's a text-message as I see the screen move when the new text come in the thread I'm reading/typing in, yet it is an issue in e-mails as e-mails tend to be longer form and I forget to check for new replies in the thread I'm working in and have missed an e-mail or two.
A second part of this is that there's no visual notification in the Notification Bar if a text or e-mail comes in while I was in that thread ... again, not an issue with texts as I see the text-screen move with each newly received text, but it is a big deal with e-mails.
Being honest ... this isn't turning into the phone I hoped it would be. There's a lot of wonky things that are more disruptive than helpful. I've been offered $550 dollars and a great set of ear-bud to trade this phone in for the Galaxy S10 ... although it's as locked down as any new phone could/would be, I can get that deal directly from Samsung and get an "Unlocked" version so I wouldn't be handcuffed to Verizon anymore.
I'm SERIOUSLY considering it.

I agree with you on all that. I was super pumped about this phone and 3 months down the road it has been nothing but a HUGE disappointment. I've been asking $550 as well to get rid of it and go back to Samsung but no luck. Never going to LG again.
Sporadically since I got the Note9, notifications have been acting up. Today it kicked into overdrive so I'm hoping someone knows what's going on.
For Twitter, I get notifications from specific users that stack in one column in my notifications. I've never had an issue with these, but today, after I tap them and view the tweet, a few seconds later they reappear in the bar like I never accessed them.
Instagram and Facebook keep showing the same notifications, hours after I view them. For instance, a friend posted a picture at 1pm today and I viewed it and the notification disappeared. Then, just now at 4pm, it popped up and notified me about the same picture again, along with 4 others I had viewed/cleared throughout the day. Instagram acts almost identically.
Android Messages will repeat notifications when I open the actual app. So if I receive a text, next time I open the app, that text will pop up as a notification complete with the sound and visuals.
I thought it could be issues with the individual apps, but with the frequency increasing and it happening with multiple apps from different developers I'm thinking it may be the phone or OneUI. Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this?
