I searched Google and seen many with the same issue, but no solution. The issue is getting no text notifications sometimes. I get the text message but no sound or badge number saying a text came in. It's so random I can be texting a person back and fourth. I get 99% of notification a text came in example a sound and visual iindication but a few slip in with out so much of a beep. I did a factory reset, I made messager notification high priority, and I have no other message app. Is it because of Oreo? Is because of Google? Or is just Samsung app broken? No idea, but it kills me.

I've seen the same issue. In addition to pissing me off I have the wife asking why I'm ignoring her messages! I rebooted and that seemed to remove the problem for a large window of time but I've heard of no concrete root cause and solution.

Same here that's why I turned off read notification in messages for TMobile. So the wife does not complain about it.
I read somewhere it might be Google app. I uninstalled updates and disabled it and will report back.
Ok 24 hours later I must say big difference. All text come in and notifications from a Islamic app about prayer times is no longer late. So is it google app? Maybe because I also removed anti virus software. I am add google back on and see what's up.
How sad.... Within 5 mins it started again... It's the google app.
it's usually happen to me when the text app is on-screen, in the foreground. when the app in the background, I get the notification

For me it's both. Phone in my pocket screen off and I get nothing. Only thing that saves me sometimes is my s3 watch. It shows the notification and the phone nothing

I have been having a continuous but random problem on Cyanogen's builds, was hoping it would be fixed...
Occasionally I will not receive texts from my girlfriend who's on Verizon. This is extremely frustrating because she thinks I'm ignoring her or something.
I also will sometimes receive a Notification of a text, but not be able to access the text. Like, I'll click on it, and I'll see the previous texts, but the one I saw in the Notification bar won't show up at the bottom. This problem is both in ChompSMS and the regular Messaging app.
I have had the Notification problem with other people as well, but so far, it seems like the 'missing texts' problem happens only with my girlfriend's texts. She doesn't miss my texts, I miss hers.
I have dgAlert Classic and ChompSMS, I will be disabling them one by one and see if that's my problem instead of CyanogenMod. But just checking to see if anyone else has had this problem.
i had this same problem, fort it was my phone, i use sms popup, that pop ups with the message, but i don't get the original notification on the pull down bar, and no LED light
That's a workaround, but is there any actual -fix- for this?
Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. What SMS app do you use, or do you use the included Messaging app?
Just wanted to add I experience this issue too. I use a widget that displays my latest message, and it shows the latest message there but occasionally there will be no notifications and the message will only appear in the widget, no where else. My fix, which im currently experimenting with, is using the default Mms.apk, not the modified one. I will post results soon.
That is a good idea, let us know what the result is!
If you can get no missing messages/notifications for 3 days without reboot, I'll be impressed and try the same myself.
Well, no luck. Default Mms.apk still has the same problems.
I've had it happen once where I was in Market, got an SMS notification, and pressed Back a bunch of times to get to Home screen. Then I looked at the notification and clicked, but there was no message.
THEN WHO WAS PHONE?
Nah but, maybe it's pressing Back a lot of times? I don't know. I wish it would get looked at and fixed, it seems like everyone just ignores it if I bring this up.
This is my first android phone after using a Iphone for the past year.. I don't really care are about gps as I don't use it and as for lag its bearable to me. But the thing that seems to be grinding my gears is the default messenger app. Occasionally I would be texting a message to a friend and when I receive a reply, I would get a error message that says the android text messenger app has crashed and I am forced to close it.
It takes a reset or I have to wait like 5 or so minutes before the phone is back to normal.. I text more than talk so its a inconvenience when this happens. I just want to know if its a common occurrence or it might has something to do with the apps I have installed? I have no apps which modify my text in any way but I did disable the counter on when the when deletes old messages.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
Hi. Long time iPhone user but new to Android as of two weeks ago. Bought the HTC One (AT&T) and am loving it so far.
However, I have been having issues concerning notifications through a couple apps. Specifically the MLB At Bat app and the CNN app. Let me start by saying that I have received notifications without issue when it comes to email, texts, and Facebook.
Now, with At Bat, I have notifications set up in the settings for the app (specifically for my favorite baseball team), and I technically do get notifications. What I mean by that is, if I happen to turn on my phone, I will see that a notification previously came in. However, I do not receive any audio or vibration feedback to accompany the notification. So, the phone doesn't actually alert me. The same case is true with the CNN app. In the settings for the app, I have set up to receive notifications for breaking news. Again, I technically get the notifications sent to my phone, so they will be there when I happen to check the phone for whatever reason. But when the notification is sent, I am not alerted in any way (no tone or vibration).
As I said before, I get notifications (accompanied with audio tone and vibration) without issue when it comes to emails, texts, and Facebook. I have scowered the system settings and the settings on the individual apps but everything appears to be in order. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you fine folks can provide.
edit: Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, but nothing has changed.

i think that android apps are not AS GOOD AS IPHONE's.......
its more apps developers problem than HTCONE......
i think you gotta sell this one and buy iphone 17S....
PS. sorry i just had to write that......
So why is it when I have hangouts open it doesn't notify me of a incoming message but if I leave the app it works as intended. This is a really annoying bug that persist across all ROMs I've tried. Nothing more frustrating than texting and coming back an hour later and having missed texts with notifications yet had I backed out of the app or pressed the home button it would have worked just fine. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere???? Thanks.
it's not a bug, it's by design.
do you really want to be notified that a message that you're already reading has been delivered? what would be the point? seems kind of redundant to me

I tend to agree with the OP. More than once I've sent a text and put my phone down without leaving Hangouts. Then when I pick it up at some later point I see I received a text back without any notification.

You're correct if you still have the phone in your hand and are looking at it. Unfortunately, if I forget to switch away from the app when I put the phone down, I don't always remember to check for a reply. (I'm an old guy). [emoji1]

This. I'll text someone and set my phone down and continue working. Only to pick it up an hour later and see I received a text an hour ago. Maybe some find it redundant but I sure don't. Wish this was a simple on/off that could be changed in the settings.
It wasn't like this in KK though. Whether it outright notified you or not I cannot remember, but I never missed texts in open windows like I do in LP. Odd......
It is a bug, in that it should provide the notification *if the screen is off*.
This has been driving me batty... I can't believe it's not sending notifications when the screen is off. If there were a choice I would prefer all notifications all the time over a broken feature.
I have been experiencing delayed notifications on my Note 9, mainly with Facebook Messenger, but it applies also to the Line messenger app and Outlook, so it's not confined to one app. It's probably just that I use Messenger often, so notice it more with Messenger
The symptoms are a random and sometimes very long delay between sending a message and receiving a notification, measured in minutes to hours. Sometimes, I'll receive a bunch of notifications from multiple apps when opening the screen.
Other times, even opening the screen does not cause me to receive notifications. I can be actively using the phone and there will still be a random delay on notifications.
For example, I was using my phone earlier to web browse and my girlfriend sent me a message. I did not get a notification. After 30 minutes, she called and asked me why I was not reading her message. Opening the messenger app, I saw the message there (as well as the time at which it was sent) and about one minute later the notification came in.
Similarly, I can be using the phone and someone will video call me on Messenger. I don't get a notification until I actually open the app (I know this since my other phone that has the Messenger app installed on it rings, so I know I have an incoming call).
I can test notification delay by using one account from a computer to send a message to the account linked to my phone, so I know exactly when the message was sent. But the notification delay, even while using the phone actively, is still present and measured in minutes to hours, whereas the other phone receives the notification immediately.
It is NOT doze mode at fault. I have explicitly disabled ALL battery optimizations as well as turning off doze mode with ADB at boot time.
It's not bluetooth, even though some users in other threads have pointed to bluetooth being at fault.
I have cleared cache, uninstalled all updates for Google Play Services and Google Play and reinstalled them.
The phone itself seems capable of receiving push notifications correctly. I can use the push notification tester app to setup a high priority notification for, let's say 10 minutes from now. Then I shut the screen. After 5 minutes, I send a message to my phone with Facebook Messenger. No notification is received for this message.
After 10 minutes, the Push Notification Tester app triggers its notification correctly, which is received immediately. And then shortly afterwards, the notification comes in from Facebook Messenger.
Clearing cache and data on Messenger doesn't make any difference, and as I said in the first paragraph, it does not appear to be the app, since other apps are affected.
This is driving me crazy. I miss out on messages and important emails.
Is anyone aware of any solution to this problem? I just see a whole bunch of snake oil remedies on the net, but no real solution.
It appears to be something that might be related to notification priority, judging by the behaviour of the Push Notification Tester app, but this is just speculation on my part
