[Q] Kernel with CWM for JQ8

Which kernel with cwm recovery is fully compatibile with JQ8 Android 2.3.6? Now I'm on stock kernel, which came with ROM and rooted with superoneclick. But I need cwm to backup my current rom, because I want to try ICS and then return to JQ8.

Mix & match stock ICS kernels?

If I am are running a stock ICS rom, can I change the kernel to a different stock kernel?
eg. If I am running the XXLPF rom, will it still work if I flash just the XXLQ2 kernel?

Yes, it will work. Just make sure you use an ICS kernel, or you'll face a bootloop. If you do, somehow, face a bootloop after accidentally flashing a GB kernel, just flash an ICS kernel via odin.

installing custom ROM over official XXLPY firmware

can i install custom rom over the stock ROM XXLPY on s advance I9070.what are the requirements (rooting and installing cwm etc.) i already have read rooting thread by shaaan.but i need a procedure for installing custom ROM SAFELY.i m presently on stock ROM XXLPY and stock recovery.

There is no custom ROM for JB on our phone now. Wait for it.

what abt installing a gb custom ROM on XXLPY with stock recovery.i just want to install a custom rom.dont care if its gb or jb...

[Q] Stock Rom for Samsung I9070

I recently installed cocore kernel and flashed a custom Rom without backing up the stock Rom. now I want to revert back to stock Rom. where can I find the stock Rom? I don't want the stock kernel. I want the stock Rom.

Download it on sammobile.com and flash it with Odin. Unfortunately you will lose everything on your phone and will have to root it again and reinstall CoCore kernel.
Or, you can try to flash a deodex rom (there are links on Frapeti's thread) using CWM recovery.

[Q] Do I have to root before CM?

I want to flash one of the Maclaw's Custom Roms.
I saw there were download links for Odin. So I thought I don't need Clockworkmod Recovery.
Does it mean I don't need to flash Rooted Stock Firmware before flashing CM with Odin?

You don't need a rooted device for flash CM because CM is after flash already rooted
