Just download it somewhere else and side load it. It should run 0k. If you are running stock you need to flash my Extras zip with my CWM SD to enable unknown sources. Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature.

I'm sorry if this has already been covered but im new to the tablet field.
I have just bought a Nook hd 8gb and want to remove the current pope interface (software) and put on a normal android 4.01 software.
Is there a simple guide on here I can follow to achieve this with stable software?
I just want google play on my nook.
Cheers.

You cannot yet replace the stock software on the HD. And the software available on SD is only available for the HD+. The only thing you can do to the root the stock and make a few mods yo it.

It sounds to me that you want a different launcher, one that looks like standard Android. You'll need to set up ADB, at least, and possibly root your HD. Then you can install a launcher like Nova or ADW and get a more standard Android look. To do that, check out Leapinlar's tips thread in the
HD/HD+ General forum. Setting up ADB may be the hardest part.

Given that I am a newbie on this forum, what would I need to learn in order to help develop things on the HD? I run a linux system, have compiled kernels, went through LFS to learn about linux systems, have written basic android apps, am comfortable in C, and have played with the kitchen and modified my own ROMS with it.
Does the HD boot from the SD card? If so, what needs to be in place to get it to happen?

I see why not, I think both HD and HD+ can boot from the SD card, that said we don't own one but from the hardware and software perspective, it make more sense that way. As far as what you need to make it happen, you basically have to build your own CM10. Get CM10 source code and compile it for the HD. You probably can use the same instruction method as shown in verygreen CM10 as far as installation goes(meaning making the SD card and CWM), but the image to make SD card you have to do it yourself.

I attempted to boot in store an HD from the CWM SD card of evergreen. It booted into the stock. Now, clearly there are a lot of variables here that could go wrong. Is the required layout of the SD card the same for the HD and the HD+?

I would like to get to the place where I understand how to approach a problem like this. What questions should be asked? What standards are there? So, for example, what differs between the HD and HD+ on boot? If they both will boot from SD, are they looking in different spots on the SD? expecting different things? Since CWM didn't even boot, this is way before the kernel takes hold (from my understanding at least).

The HD has different booting files than the HD+. The HD+ version of the SD will not boot in it. There has to be a special version made for it and that has not been done.
Specifically, the bootloader (u-boot.bin) and other files are different. The SD booting structure is the same, just the HD+ files on the verygreen SD won't work on the HD. He explains that on his CM10 thread.

So I assume u-boot needs to be configured for the specific board in the HD and the MLO provided. I'd also guess that the specific board is not one of the standard supported boards.
Two Questions re: my HD+2.1)
1. If I want to keep all of my books both from BN and sideloaded from Calbre in one file only, what is the preferred location for internal and for sdcard. I have plent of space in both but want to eliminate multiple book listings.
2. Not having sideloaded an app in quite some time, I have forgotten how/where and wish to do so with the Nook app instead of using the embedded Nook version. Would appreciate any help with where to d/l the app from and where to load and install. Will not d/l from Playstore due to embedded Nook.
Thanks in advance for any help.
You cannot run the Nook for Android app on stock, if that is what you were wanting.
The stock location for B&N books is /data/nookmedia, which is only accessible to you if you are rooted.

I am actually leaning towards going with your emmc/10.1 (which has always been my aim since getting my HD+) and viewed the 2.1 update as a temporary path until your efforts produced stable fruit. For someone who is not a "power user", could I go ahead and make that leap for reasonably stable day to day operations?
Thanks for all of your ongoing efforts!
First off, it is verygreen's CM10.1, not mine. But that aside, that is what I am running now and it is rock solid. There are a few minor bugs that users complain about, but I have zero issues.
I recommend you go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread, make a bootable CWM SD, make a nandroid backup of stock, flash verygreen's CM10.1 for emmc, flash gapps, wipe data and never look back.

Will do and many thanks to the both of you for your efforts.

When I try to load games from the external storage, all I can see and select is the "Up" button to go up one directory. I know I have folders there. I have absolutely no issue seeing the files in the internal storage.
I cannot store my files on the internal storage as it fills up quite quickly
I'm not sure what else I need to include to figure this out. I tried adding a link to the folder on the internal storage and that kept failing.
this is the only app to give me this trouble.

The issue is the file manager that comes with CM needs to be configured.
Go to the app settings by clicking on three dots in the lower right corner. Go to settings, general. Then configure the access mode to root. You will have to ok superuser. From then on you can see above the up arrow.
But that file manager is awful. I recommend you use something else like Root Browser Lite or ES File Manager. They are both free.

Then I guess I don't know what you are talking about. Shortcuts? You mean symlinks?
If you want your apps to use the external sdcard instead of internal sdcard for storing data files, the best way to do that is to use my SD swap zip for CM10.1 on emmc. Get it from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. See item 4.

However I cannot seem to be able to actually see the SD card info within the storage option of the settings. It is perpetually stuck in 'calculating' and I am seeing 2 external storage now. I'm trying to fix the Nook now. I went and wiped the Nook and then applied your SD swap fix. Now none of the stock app (including Play) works at all. This was the best idea I've heard for the Nook HD but it does not seem to be working at all for some reason. Maybe the SD swap zip is version sensitive of the EMMC installation?
::EDIT::
Wiped and then flashed that zip at the same time. Didn't work. Now trying to flash a fresh copy of the latest verygreen's EMMC version and then flash the SDswap zip at the same time.
::EDIT2::
that did not seem to have fixed my Nook HD. reverting to the way it was. thank you for your helps though

You talk about stock app, are you running stock or CM10.1 on emmc? I have more than one version of the SD swap zip. Make sure you get the version for what you are running. You should be able to just flash the zip to a working system, reboot and it should be swapped.

EDIT: You are right it does not work properly on the HD. It works great on the HD+, but I had not tested it on the HD and something definitely is broken there. I will pull the HD version and label it only for the HD+ until I get a working HD version. Sorry.

I recently acquired a nook HD, and I immediately went on to install CM 10.1.
Things were fine and dandy until I loaded up about a quarter of my e-book collection (roughly 3gb's) on to my Nook.
I had placed them into the external 32gb SD I had, and when I checked the storage stats, Aldiko had imported them into the internal storage space.
Immediately after I searched up solutions, I found leapinlar's SD swap for CM 10.1/10.2.
I ran it but nothing happened.
I am currently running CM 10.1.3 RC-2
It is rooted.
My CWM version is stated to be "EMMC CWM-based recovery v. 6.0.3.2"
I've tried all of the SD swap zip files loaded onto all sorts of locations.
I have tried many permutations of installation ordering.
I've cleared data, repaired permissions countless times.
At this point, this today marks two weeks since I ventured into this endeavor.
And for the longest time, I have given in.
I made an account on this forum to ask this question; to shout a plea for help.
Prior to making an account, I scoured this forum looking for answers--I found very little in terms of helpful information.
Someone enlighten me on the exact steps and the details of how they got this swapping concept to work.
At this point, I am seriously contemplating on using this nook as a mirror.
Help Please.
Can you give me some details as to how it is acting? And what version of the swap zip are you flashing? What are you expecting it to do? Don't be flashing the other versions for stock, it will just be messing it up.

Right now, after I ran the "NookHD-HDplus-SDSwap-for-official-CM10.1-CM10.2-emmc-rev6-(090413), none of my apps work. None. It still boots regularly though.
My SD card was formatted into NTFS32 using SDFormatter with the full overwrite and etc.
I am expecting the internal SD and external SD's to be switched in file manager/ or on the computer.

Hi,
I have a Nook Color running on stock Nook OS 1.4.3. I want to install Google Play Store on it, but I can't seem to find a guide to do so. If Google Play Store cannot be installed stand-alone, I would like to root to the most stable and swift ROM out there.
I am a bit confused if whether CM Encore 10.2 can only be installed and run via a SD card or can it be installed on the internal memory too. I have installed and updated my Nook HD+ many a times, but I am unable to find a clear and concise guide for Nook Color.
Any help would be much appreciated,
