Hi all lucky owners of lg optimus 2x,
I want to ask you a question about battery life of optimus 2x . Is it really better than single cored ones or same, i m not expecting better life really
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There's a good review in the optimus 2x forum:
http://www.optimus2x.net/index.php?topic=156.0
Conclusion:
30mn YouTube HD (wifi)LG Optimus 2X: 9% batteryGoogle Nexus S: 7% battery30mn Neocore (3D graphics)LG Optimus 2X: 12% battery @ 74FPS Google Nexus S: 9% battery @ 54FPS8hrs of stand-by LG Optimus 2X: 2% battery Google Nexus S: 3% battery
Wow, quite good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that test is a bit flawed... PaulOBrien reported that the Nexus S exaggerates it's battery % quite seriously...

You are used o2x. What can you said about battery life of subj? On sleep mode? On used mode?
Here is an interesting test of battery life of the lg o2x.

my battery life blows :/
Well, mine has a pretty good battery....you know now I have time, so I just keep playing with it all day, so with auto-brightness and WiFi always on, playing pretty much all-day I got through 1 day without my charger. Without wifi and less playing I think 2-3 days could be easily achieved.
I am using V10d rom unrooted.
It happended several times now. I need to change SIM cards often as I travelled to different areas during my work. Before I pull out the battery,it is at 50%. After I change SIM card and put back the battery, it drop to less than 17%. It takes me less than a minute to change the SIM card. What happened to the battery??
Use juicedefender

I managed to get 3 days+ out of it under average use. Could probably easily manage 4+ with setCPU or something underclocking the processor and turning off data, etc.

i'd like to know too. My battery life sucks. Barely make it through a day now. On MCR FR17..
This is one of many threads about this.. But i'll respond anyway.
I had same issue, after some tests, i found out its GSM part of phone thats draining the juice. With airplane mode on it was about 3% in 8h. I was on BlazingDragon, with some apps, normal phone use It lasted 24h on standby without any use, no more.
Yesterday, i tried to flash (lastest for central europe) stock firmware, including baseband, simply i got the phone into factory state. And well, during night with data off it was 1% (yes, you are reading it right, i woke up with phone on 99%), now 10h later with lighter usage (some mp3, not much, a little of tapatalk, gmail push on) i'm at 78%.
I dont have any software except tapatalk installed atm. Dont think my problem with with BlazingDragon rom thou, i suspect some application caused it, but dunno which one
I think it will last 2 days with current usage, and several days with data disabled (using it as plain old phone only for calls )
PS: I dont use any JuiceDefender etc..
Iam using slicks rom, if i only write sms and surf sometimes, i have to charge every third day, but if i playing THD games, i have to charge after 3-4 hours
+1
the stand by time is really nice but gaming sucks out everything from my battery
Other than the battery drain during standby, my current observation is that, say if my battery was at 50% before I pull out the battery (say if I need to change SIM card), after I changed SIM and put the battery within one minute, it suddenly drops to less than 17%. Why the battery loss 33% in no time?
People keep saying that the phone can last a week if it is on airplane mode, or by turning off data 3 days, but then why we need a smartphone of such build?
Has anyone compare the other dual core or tegra2 phones in the market how they perform battery life? Do they have such awful battery drain standby? LG said the battery drain was due to incompatibility of tegra2 and android 2.2. Why sell the phone in the first place? This problem starts from day 1. LG no QC or just want hiding this problem from customer?

it looks like a calibration problem. Either 50% or 17% reading was false.
Just did two full days after reflash with MCR.
It seems my android system is destroying my battery , it is always at the top of the list with display usually coming in well under. This screen shot was taken with very little use today. I upgraded the battery to the andida 1980 mah battery and I have been using juice defender ultimate and I do get a few more hours out of the device but the android system is still the largest drain. any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Its normal for a stock thrill. But that doesn't mean it should be that way necessarily... I have gb on my other two phones and android system has always been toward the bottom.

Welcome to the club. I charge mine twice a day at least.
Dude, no kidding. I charge mine 2-3 times daily, plus the whole time driving to and from work. Android eats normally 50-60% of my battery. Sadly, I still love it. Plus I work for at&t selling these things. I tried the 3500mah battery, but I hate having a naked phone.
I'm not sure what I'm doing different but my android system is at 30-39%
sent from my Lg Thrill running Thriller. Using the XDA app.
They say it's some sort of system glitch but no one knows the cause. I'm running Thriller which is amazing. Much better than stock. These phones have a lot of potential.
Change the Launer, try Launcherpro, after installing the launche reboot and see.
After a ton of research this is what I've found. I think its the answer as to why the battery is getting drained, but there doesn't seem to be a fix. I installed Juice Defender which has throttled my OS from coming on and leeching the internet whenever it feels like it. Sometimes I get cell standby, phone idle and display above android OS, which is a god send.
I found this out using Battery history and Betterbatterystats.
The main culprit seems to be the Suspend command. Google knows about this issue and LG had to of known but they released Froyo on the Thrill anyway.
Issue 11126
I use watchdog to monitor mine. At first I set it to alert me if it ever went above 30% which should be way to much but I got it so often I decided to move it up to 50% to give it a little extra time to "suspend" my phone. I get less alerts now so it must be working eventually but I've had it alert me at 80% before...suspend....using 80% processing power to put my phone to sleep?!?!? Thats rediculous. So you go into the "partial wake" section of betterbattery and battery history and you find out that the main culprit of keeping your phone awake and fighting "suspend" is either the "dialer" or "datatracker". Dialer seems to encompass anything that uses the internet but I could be wrong so that one is pretty broad. DataTracker turns out is your Fast Dormancy. There are many threads on the internwebs that tell you how to disable fast dormancy as its more of a neusance than usefull if the carrier isn't tuned right for it but none of these seemed to work for me so for now I'm stuck letting dialer and FD fight Suspend and just catching it when I can with Watchdog. Gingerbread can't come soon enough and hopefully its a version that fixes this as many users in the "issue" thread were using GB.
I lost tons of sleep over this and the only thing I could do was install Juice Defender. I hate depending on a 3rd party app to control and throttle everything on my phone but so far I still get all my push emails fairly instantly and really don't even notice its there, I still just hate the idea of it. but, for now it works. Yesterday I was at 27% after 17 hours of moderate use. Phone calls, emails, texts and maybe even some 3D gaming but I couldn't remember for sure. I also use Battery Graph to give myself a visual representation of my battery throughout the day and that helps me see when and where my batter is getting drained or if its going to sleep properly. Keeping my Wifi on also seems to drain it so unless I need fast internet I have it off. It doesn't seem to sleep properly when its on even if I have it set to "sleep when screen off" as the phone still likes to "partial wake" and run wild on the net.
Sorry if its long winded and confusing but after tons of research on this I've come to accept what I've found. I hope it has helped someone.

I also changed my launcher to Go Launcher and it helped LG Home stop using battery.
So there I started out at actually 70%. After swapping to launcher pro, rebooting, and charging, it's gradually gone down to 40%

My android system is at 23% with GO Launcher EX. It's the third at my list with Cell Standby leading with 34%
I've been unplugged for about 2 hours now. Oddly enough my phone only says 21 minutes. Android system is back at 67% and standby is at 10%.

You all have to remember froyo isn't the greatest when dealing with resources hence why Gingerbread was released so hopefully once we get that update things will be much better.
If you use cwm, try battery calibration. when you reset it the battery meter become more accurate.
I use up my battery from 100% downto 40%really fast. but the remaining 40% looks far more than the first 60%

Not that it wouldn't charge, but the touch screen goes crazy while trying to use it on the after market charger. Once removed it was fine.
So yeah I would say only use the LG charger.

Hello all!
I am new to the forum so I hope make it without any errors.
I bought the Optimus 2x cellphone last week whith the hope of getting the good one (the one without freezes and black screens) fortunately the cell worked very nicely. I updated to gingerbread and I feel it very good. But I have the good known problem of battery consumption.
Now I have a battery related question. After the update I charged the phone and get the battery indicator stuck at 100% I rooted the phone, installed Battery Calibration and calibrated the phone (left the battery to reach 0% then fully charged to 100% hit calibrate and left the telephone fully discharge again)
The issue is that when the thelephone was at 100% the voltage indicator of the battery calibration was in 4100 mV and here comes the weird thing. When reached 0% the voltage indicator was saying 2000mV.
My question is if this values are right. Someone with good battery duration and the Battery calibration installed could tell me the correct values? I thought that the phone shut down when battery was down to 0 mV but maybe the problem is that my battery is just using "half" battery.
Sorry for my english. I am not native english speaker.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
That is voltage, 3300mv = 3.3 volts.
Fully charged the battery would be at 4180mv, fully discharged is around 3200mv usually, or a bit higher.
The phone shuts off when the battery gets below the usable range, which I believe is slightly above 3000mv.
So yes a range of 3.3 to 4.2 volts is perfectly normal for a 3.7v battery.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. So I think I should get used to it. My battery doesnt last more than 12 hours of my regular use. A some internet browsing and some messaging. No music, videos, or games.
Someone recommends the extended batteries of 3500 mAh for this phone? That will make the phone last more time?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Reaper511989, I have bought an extended battery from HERE. It is fatter, but not ugly. And the battery lasts a lot longer. I use it when I'm travelling. I have no idea where in the world you are, but the battery was from a company in the UK.
Have fun. Anil

Well in that case you might wanna repair your device since you seem to have the same issue with all roms. That should not be the case that it uses the same amount of battery without using it, especially if no app is loading the cpu....

well actually. cm7 i got about 5-6 hours batt life, cm9 i got no more than 8, GB (stock rom) can usually go from 5-8 hours. but with no bugs. so i am back on GB.
so i dont think device is broken/dodgy since the batt life fluctuates a little. depending on the rom.
my main issue is, ive been reading about ppl using froyo and going to GB and having mass battery drain. now im thinking about going to froyo.

Could you please share your findings? Since I'm having the same problem and started thinking about returning to stock as well.
Hi to everyone! I have a g1 and I decided to use it again. I replaced the battery for a new one (I bought it few days ago). When I used after charging it all night it just lasted 3 hours. Then I googled for solutions and I did all what I found (charge it full and reset battery stats and let it drain all, charge it with the phone off, etc) without results. Then I tried one Barry with more capacity (the ones that you need to change the cover) that a friend have and was the same. After more or less three hours, the phone turned off. I had cyanogenmod 7 installed with the latest radio and spl. Today I tried with stock room, unrooted with the same results.
If someone knows a solution, please let me know. Thanks
It may be your ROM, but this is very new to me, even those big ones? Try another ROM:FroyoByLazslo is my favourite and fastest
I'm checking with the stock rom, but I'm going to give a try. Thanks!
Hi,
maybe you overclocked it very much; this can use very much battery. If you want to save energy, you should undervolt it...
Hardy
Hmmm, I don't think is that. I tried with the stock room (1.6) and was the same. And this morning I tried to use the phone, but I had decided last night to turn it off to save battery and was dead! Maybe the phone has something... today I flashed the room froyo by laslo, looks good and is fast! I'm going to underclock it and see what happen. Also I read something about a draining problem when you connect it in the laptop through usb, might it is the cause of all this?
Only with some kernels, if your drain problem is due to software then flash a different kernel

PS: You're welcome!
HI, after checking all that you say. I wipe all and after I charged the battery, y wip e the stats and now is working better! With the normal one, I get 6 hours on standby and with normal use, 4..... I tried with 2200mhA and I get 12 hours with medium use, but I with this one the phone is bulky..... BUt well now is my gps!
Thanks!
No prob dude we are here to help the guys who need help, that's why it's a forum XD
TC, you must understand that all G1 batteries are quite old now. They were made betwixt 2008-2010, batteries begin losing their max charge right after they are made in the factories. It's only natural for your battery life to be poor, batteries can be damaged heavily by heat sources, my notebook's battery life became 5 Minutes b/c the wear level was extremely high. I assume your G1's battery is in "bad" condition cell wise. Either calibrate or buy an OEM battery(3rd batteries are tricky). If you calibrate try one of these...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312273
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187698
Also if you need battery you should honestly stick with cupcake, donut. Anything past that is already sluggish and pushes the G1, which means the CPU is always at max which leads to shorter battery. And lets not forget the post donut versions have more services and what not.

What's wrong with 3rd party batteries? In my experience I've had two different ones bought off eBay and each worked better than my new OEM battery.
Guys need some advice. Recently i have been having problems with battery life of galaxy note, so following some advices from other forums, i tried beter battery stats and found nothing was wrong. But today I have taken out the battery off my galaxy note, and i found that the battery has bloated a bit..i mean it bulged than its normal size and the back cover does not fit as confortably as it used to. Now my observations are, with no data on(even wifi) battery lasts for one and half day of calling and texting. But battery lasts not more than 2 hrs if data is on (even with wifi also). So does it mean i should change my battery? Or can i go on? Ofcourse battery life is pathetic when i switch on 3G or 2G or wifi. All i want to know is, is it safe to use this battery even if it has bloated a bit, bcoz its still good if i dont switch on any kind of data usage. Or will it damage my Note?

this has happened to me b4. not with not but other phone. battery bulged from back side. cuz I was using a diff charger not of the right rating or keeping it in charging for the entire night. Or may be a non official battery. any ways u should change the battery.
There are a few questions i want to ask, they may be sily but still want to know bcoz i dont want my battery to suffer.
1. Can will charge the battery with data on, i mean either 2G, 3G or WiFi on, with some downloading or buffering going on?
2. Ca we charge the battery while running some apps. Like watching video or listening to music, both via speakers not headphones.
3. And when is the best time to keep the phone for charging. I generally charge my mobile when its less than 10%.
4. Why does prolong charging damage the battery? I mean, when charging is full, doesn't the mobile cut the power input, even if charger is plugged in?

1. Yes
2. Yes.
3. Some people like to let the phone run dry i.e. power off so that they know like every last bit of battery is used.
But I don't think it makes too much of a difference.
4. I'm not really sure with this question.
But I think there are two sides to this argument.
First is, cuz it is still connected to power, it still drains battery or something. I'm not sure.
Second is, over charging is a myth and you can go nuts and over charge it cuz as you said, it stops charging when fully charged.
Feel free to correct me on anything I screwed up in.
i guess 1,2,3 has bee correctly answered..
4: i would like to add is i am sure phone cuts the charge and so does laptops.. but with laptop it is not recommended to keep the charger plugged in when its full.. its always recommended to disconnect the charger.. as mentioned in some battery guides as well. there are software installed in pc for limiting the charge to 80 or 85 % called as battery care functions... which clearly states that it saves battery life in the long run. so i guess its applicable to phones as well.. u may not find an immediate diff but i am sure ur battery will long last
as i said before.. i dont take these chances with Note but i had the same issue with a Nokia phone that i owned..
Sounds like heat dammage. The battery has a bag inside which swells during charging. The hard case is bigger than it needs to be ,to take acc. of this. If it has buckled the outer case it loks to me you have been using power draining apps while charging. Its got vv hot made gases and bullged. It's ruined. Id not use it ,incase it leaks into the phone. so long as the charger has more capacity in watts than the battery needs it will just take what it needs. Never use a charger of higher voltage!!!
As someone said overcharge is a myth. So is the need to drain the battery every time on lithium-pollimer.
Were you using a Samsung or generic batt?

Yeah but i have to make a point here. The way i use my mobile. I use my mobile a lot, i mean we all do, but please read on to see if the way i use my mobile is not good.
Generaly everyone gets free time from friday nights to monday morning. So, from friday night to sunday night, the way i use my mobile is.....continuous usage of net, say i have forgot using my laptop, desktop and note is the only device, even for facebook etc etc...then gaming as we all do....next videos and music (using both headphones and speaker)....then watching videos on mobile, both online and downloaded, sometimes watching streaming movies online (while charging too)
So all i want to say is, I use my mobile a lot on these three days in such a way, that my charging goes from 100% to 25% within 2 to 3 hrs and then i charge till 100%, and still use the mobile while charging for music or videos. Its like i dont give rest to my battery...
Does usage of mobiles this heavily damage batterys....i said all this because i want to know if my usage is the reason behind my batterys damage, so that i can avoid it when i buy the new battery. I use even XDA from my Note all the time and I have both posted and replied to this thread from my Note itself, i almost forgot using my Laptop

2. Yes.. I'm doing that for 3months now..
3. I always run my battery to the point that it turns off the phone..
4. I dont believe in the "overcharging" when you keep your phone plugged in for long.. With the big salary of Samsung Engineers, for sure they have thought of that and protected the device/battery from overcharging..
I tend to keep away from tethering and/or plugging my phone to a USB port since it charges the battery no matter what % it is.. I really want to fully discharge a battery before charging it... Had an old nokia phone and its battery has been going strong for 4years now... So im going to stay with this method to take care of my battery..
As for your bulged battery, i would go with the earlier replies.. It was most probably caused by heat damage.. Either you placed it in a hot place while charging.. or placed it on top of some cloth.. I charge my phone face down so the battery can dissipate the heat.. I notice that it tends to overheat if i have it charged face up..

Ok guys thanks a lot for all your replies...but i want to know one thing for sure....using a bulged battery like the one i have now...does it damage the phone in anyway??
And the other thing i want to point out is, the battery is bulged..but for some reason, even with data connection on all the time, battery is lasting for almost 4 hrs. I wonder wats happening now, with my phone's battery.
Although i have decided to order a new battery now, and i am mostly thinking to order one Samsung Battery from Samsung and one Mugen 5400 mAp battery too. But till i get those batteries, can i use my phone with this bulged battery?? Or will it damage my phone in anyway??

I think once it's started bulging, it's only going to increase in size and you run the risk of the seams splitting and it leaking which would make a real mess of the internals beyond repair pretty instantly., but that being said, I'd be surprised if that was to happen before you got replacements delivered. There's always a risk but you should be ok.

I suggest you stop using a bloated battery ASAP... You'll never know when it will leak or explode.. It might be inside your pocket.. Hopefully not..

LOL
Im the same my friend. I've not used my laptop in months. My gf lives in the usa do I'm on skype all the time as well as the net .
I had heat problems. It was down to the rom...well since I changed I've not had it . I'm using cassies with it stripped back . The middle choice in aroma .using hydracore OC but have it under clocked to 1200. The phone works great at that . Id say your games are a problem.don't use a case to play .id also say you are better keeping the charger on if you are using it a lot. Draining then charging and using stresses the tree. Better to keep it full.
Get CPU spy to see how much you are using the cpu and what frequencys. Do that and drop me a pm anytime:thumbup:
THAT BATTERY IS A BOMB! GET RID !!!!
If it ruptures and air gets in it will explode or catch fire .I KID YOU NOT !!!!

Thanks a lot for the information and the advice to get RID off the bloated battery, I thought Batteries exploding is a myth, but looks like I have to agree they may explode as so many members here say that.
The battery I am using has reached a state where I was unable to fit it with my back case, So I have replaced it with a genuine Samsung battery as I could not afford to wait, even for 3 or 4 days without my Note. But then, as you mentioned about cases being the reason for heat damage, I use the below two cases for my Note. Do you think they are harmful for Note?

And Yes, I have installed Cpu Spy as you suggested, I will let you know my findings.
i guess both the cases are fine.. just make sure none has magnets cuz that interferes with the touch and spen sensitivity
