hi
Ive been trying to play a range of oldish (cod2) to newish (cod4,5) and the fps in them are crap! Im wondering if thats due to the onboard Nvidia GeForce 7025 graphics, or the 2gb of ram for win7 + games.
thanks
btw my pc spec is my signature!
Because of the onboard gpu (atleast in new games)
and if I read correctly then your ram is 267mhz? - thats a bit to slow for todays games!!
If youre planing to upgrade then I suggest you get a decent Graphic Card (nvidia 9somethin ot maybe 200 series card -- If your psu supports it!! ) and if youre at low fps then then upgrade to a faster ram, 2gb is enough!!
I got a Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 OC'd from 2.4 to 3.5ghz ; 4gb of Kingston 800mhz ram and a Nvidia GF8800GTS 640mb gpu on a Asus Striker II Formula (got it for the guaranty cuz my Asus Striker burned)-- and mostly I can play all new games on MAX spec except, of course CRYSIS
Thats weird, they play fine on my Fuze... Maybe change ROMS?
HAHAHAHA
update
the ram is pc6400 at 1607mhz
btw my computer is 50 days old today! Everything is brand new as of the 26 july 2009
then its 100% onboard gpu fault!!!
get nvidia card with hybrid power so you can use your onboard gpu and your GPU when needed!!!
write your PSU specs and Ill write some gpu's which will work with hybrid power and your psu will support the wattage!!
the psu is a colours it! 550w. And i was thinking of getting an XFX GeForce 9600GT XXX AlphaDog Edition which it £80-£90. What du think?
what are the fps ?
because if vsync is on you will only get as many fps as hz your screen refresh with
with is anyway the max fps people can ever get visually
but there are alot! of myths about this stuff
but buttom line is your screen refresh with a sudden hz and that mean thats
the number of times a second it draws the screen so
even if turning vsync off mean it will report much more fps it don't mean that your screen is displaying those fps
i dont know how to check fps in cod4 du no?
And whats vsync?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_synchronization
basically that the backbuffer is not blittered to the frontbuffer before
the frontbuffer is don't being drawn on the screen
about cod4 sorry never played any of those games
My fps in cod4 is 3!
How do i get that up?

Get a new GPU!!!!
and the 9600GT will do !!! it will work on the 550 W psu!!!
I have a 8800GTS 640 (eats more electricity and its on a 480W )
have you tried to set everything on min specs in video options(ingame) ?
yes i have set everything minimum. But still no luck!
I have decided to get a zotac GF 9800GT
Will that work
I will have to wait until i get some money cause im only 13! Might get it for crimbo!

save up some!!! Im 15 years old (almost 16) I have Touch HD (100% mine , bought for my money) - worked for it !!
sounds almost like you're using a generic vga driver rather then the real driver for the video card even if it's an onboard gpu
Yeah but i have installed the correct nvidia vga drivers. It might be a good idea to reinstall.
thx
hi again
i reinstalled the drivers to the latest version and set all the settings on cod to low.
BTW what is SLi and can i use it on an N68-S ASRock board
thx
Please don't get the 9800, although it is a powerfull card, if you get Sapphire HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 HDMI DVI VGA PCI-E Graphics Card £83.40 its will destroy the 9800 in any game, as for SLI i really wouldnt bother unless your monitor is 1920x1080 and your not getting a high (50+ constant) FPS. Also the 4850 will have no issues with your motherboard or Power supply.
yep i have the 4850 and it beats the crap out of all others in that price range,,,although it's not sapphire....but powercolor works fine too
I'm not sure if there is one of these but i will start one i suppose

ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO mobo <-bad buy, shoulda gone for a 790 chipset at least for Xfire
AMD Phenom x2 945 @ 3.0MHz processor <-another bad buy, shoulda forked out a little more for a BE processor
2x2GB Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 <- yet another bad buy, it is only half-price 9 months down the road
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6950 moded 6970 <- deal of the century. Just flashing the BIOS saves you like 20% of the cost
1TB WD Caviar 7200RPM HDD <- for all the furry pr0n
Cooler Master GX 750W <- slight future-proofing here. Should support xfire in the future
Windows 7 64-bit <- what were you expecting with the 4GB RAM?
A better way of getting info will be to use CPUz to get all that

It's a decent laptop. Just old.
Came with XP and then went onto Vista. Regretted that but Acer killed the XP code. Then I got 7.
It runs damn fine. Hell, I remember it ran the Sims 2 at top settings, even though the game said it wouldn't run full stop. And it made me proud.
Not used Windows in ages though. Only use it for messing with my XBOX.

Some of you may already know what [email protected] is but for those who don't, (Taken from the [email protected] homepage) "Our goal: to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases
You can help scientists studying these diseases by simply running a piece of software.
[email protected] is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer takes the project closer to our goals. [email protected] uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.
Protein folding is linked to disease, such as Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers.
Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.
What is protein folding?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery."
I have set up an unofficial XDA-Developers [email protected] Team for everyone to join. To join, download and install a client of your choice (Linux, Windows, OSX, PS3, or a GPU client for computers with fast graphics cards), then open your client settings, and for the box that says "Team number", put "204095" in there, minus quotation marks. Joining you guys now. Used to be on the Custom-PC folding team, but had to stop due to the electric bills (2 years ago, was running dual GTX260s and an 8800GTS for physX) and using the PS3. Now I pay my own electric, and I spotted you on the team list. I spend a lot of my time on XDA so I may as well contribute to the team rather than the team of a magazine when my subscription ran out 18 months ago.

I'll join you guys if someone can help me set mine up? I did fold a long time ago, and I remember having the ability to run either all four instances at once or just one or two putting full usage on the selected cores. All of the versions now and tuts on how to set [email protected] just put ~25% usage on all four of my cores which is not what I want =/ any ideas on how to get it so I can do 100% on the selected cores?
Why it is just a so small community? I thought this is a board of lil computer freaks. ^^ I think the normal users are running their PCs for more than 2 hours of a day. That could be enough for folding in the background.

Games, and computer stats
Basically all the free to play games on steam are multiplayer
Team Fortress 2, Spiral Nights, Rusty Hearts, CrimeCraft: Bleedout, War Inc. Battlezone, Forsaken World,
That is just some of the games from the free to play page that said they were multiplayer. There a lot of games that are free to play that don't list themselves there for their own reasons (NASA: Moonbase Alpha)
Now there are the non-free steam games,
Borderlands, Portal 2, Rage, The Call of Duty lineup, Counter-Stike, Half-life 2: Deathmatch,
Again the list goes on forever.
Then there are non-steam games like League of Legends (free) and its ok, some really like it, not my cup of tea.
Of course the majority of these games require fast internet (20+ mb download and 15+ mb upload on both sides) and a ethernet port fast enough to keep up (no laptops) or wireless n wifi (this can be done by most routers, but only good ones actually transmit data at wireless n level speed, so ethernet is better if you don't have a laptop)
And on top of fast internet, you need a excellent computer to play most of these. If you don't have a AMD Radeon HD 5200 (I have 5400, like 60+ fps on TF2) or better (nvidia equivilent if that floats your boat, I got a AMD cause it was on sale) and a pentium 4 at 3.40 ghz (again, AMD processor if that floats your boat) or better, then on games like TF2, you'll play fine most of the time on offline (vs. bots) mode, but on online you will LAG, a lot.
Just as a rule of thumb, if your using a vga graphics card, most likely, you can't play these games. And if you run dxdiag (using run command in xp, or run bar in vista and 7), you can find your graphics card. If it says something like "Intel Express Family Chipset" then you can't play these games. Or if by some miracle you can (like I could before I upgraded my graphics card) it will get >5 fps and look horrible.
Bottom line, before thinking of the games, check your computer stats at both ends, if you both don't have good stats, your options go to playing leaderboard flash games and trying to beat each others score (really fun ), or buying a console and playing your games on that.
Another recommendation for Portal 2!

hey guys im looking for a laptop that i can play SW on (low-med settings) and im looking at these laptops
A http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215191

C http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215206
im really going with A because of the cost plus i will be adding 8 gigs of ram to any of these laptops and a clean install of windows 7 64bit to make sure all the bloatware is off but if i must i will go with b or c if that is the only way ill be able to play on low and medium
if i was to go with A and turn off FULL shadows will i be able to pull it off?

but if this one can play it at those specs then ill get this one and save $$$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215191
To be honest ..
I think A , B , or C won't play SWOR very well .
You gonna need a good video card and all of these have sub par gaming cards in them .
Should be looking at a laptop with a dedicated video card (not intel on board), an i5 chip at least (i7 preferable) and at least 4 gb of ram .
This is a great site for comparing laptop video cards.

If on a budget like you said , that will probably do low to medium graphics.
GT 540m.
I've played the beta on the laptop I linked and it rockz ..

Any of those will be able to play it on low/medium settings. The game runs *very* efficiently. My rig is pretty powerful (i5 2500k OC'd to 4.2Ghz, 8GB of fast ram, GTX 560 OC'd), but I play it on max settings and still get like 80-150fps...in crowded places.
I'm confident my MBP could play this game at all medium settings, and the specs aren't amazing (i5 @ 3.0Ghz, 4GB, GTX 220)
