CastHacks.com Wiki - Dedicated to ChromeCast - Google Chromecast

http://www.casthacks.com
I have put together a Wiki page that we can use to share, discuss and explore ChromeCast hacks and exploits. Feel free to contribute, the site has only been up since this morning so there isn't much there *yet*.
Enjoy!

a suggestion re postings

hi to all
im completely new to the whole pda game, and have recently purchased my vario.
i have spent the last few weeks plodding around the forum, gaining hints and tips - just feeling myself around to understand the capabilities of my ppc.
its great to see so many dedicated people sharing information and helping one another - a real credit, and to the site as a whole, a complete wealth of valuable information. thanks to all involved!!
after my experience here so far, i have a small suggestion that may help everyone, especially other beginners find vital posts, or should i say specific posts within threads.
its very easy for threads to become huge due to thanks yous and suggestions, etc. (they can also stray way off path). obviously these are fantastic and move threads forward, but i was thinking that it would be really great, and save loads of time, if posts where an author, say, releases a tweak/hack or unlocker, has one main thread which they use to release. this thread is locked to replies, but a link is added to another reply thread, where other members can add their comments and suggestions, etc. the author could reply to individuals on this sub-thread, but post important comments and updated releases on the main thread.
thus anyone wanting to either view the history of an item, or just simply download the newest version of a hack could do so without the hassle of searching through say 30 pages.
this would also allow those who want to read the 'other member' comments do so.
obviously the sub thread would link up to the main thread...
i dont want to step on toes, but hopefully other members would agree and some new posts could start this way to see how it goes.
comments, remarks wellcome...
regards
dan
Well I think your idea is a good one in many ways but as updates come about comments and tips also come about and if they are all in order with the updates it does help with it as sometimes the author/developer of the a hack or tweak doesn't always get the instructions perfect and the experience of the other members as they try it and find a better way of using it or installing it helps and if you have them all in the same place and without the need of searching through another forum to find the right part of the page that corresponds with the current version. I think it would almost need to be put into portions. Example for the original hack has a forum then the next version has a forum and then it would keep it in order. What do you think??
as an alternative, a listing of the post # and date announcing the new release by the version number and content listing on the original post of a thread, or the "locked" thread suggested in this thread.
funkydan: I think it would make a lot of sense. I'll try to remember, but it can be hard to enforce. Good policy though.
V vbmenu_register("postmenu_952517", true);
One thought is if when you select New Thread you are given two options one for general threads and the other if you are wanting to post a piece of software etc and if they are wanting to post a normal thread they get taken to the normal thread creator but if they want to post a piece of software etc they are taken to a template where the enter in the info and then automatically another thread is created within that thread for other users to post. What do you think?

SEARCH XDA-Developers using GOOGLE & READ THE KAISER WIKI!!!

Here's the XDA-DEVELOPERS Kaiser Wiki.
It's VERY nice; make sure you search it first for ANYTHING Kaiser-related.
Here's the XDA-DEVELOPERS GENERIC Wiki.
It contains generic info - not only Kaiser-related questions. You will want to read it first if you for example look for a software. Of particular interest are Menneisyys' articles, Bibles and tutorials in the half of the page - you'll definitely want to check them out if you have a generic software / gaming / application / hacking-related question.
Search XDA-DEVELOPERS using Google
(already setup to search XDA-Developers only. You can also easily find posts by a specific user - enter user name followed by search words)
OR
Search the WIKI using Google
(already setup to search XDA-Developers WIKI only. WIKI = Categorised library of useful facts and information)
OR
.Search ENTIRE INTERNET using Google
.OR
.Search using Forum's own Search facility
Remember that Google takes some hours to "crawl" sites for new info. so results will not show the absolute latest posts.
OR
You can alternatively search the whole site using this google search. http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=011628417748231547811:k6qzkiiveps
Also, there're two Wiki's you'll be interested in:

Somewhat edited the OP.

The site has running costs and donations are needed to pay the costs. Donations to XDA-Dev can be made by clicking on the Donate button on the brown bar near the top of the page. (Same bar that has the User CP, Search and Log out buttons.) But here's a link anyway: http://forum.xda-developers.com/donations.php
Any donations to individual members are entirely up to you. The principle we have is that members do not act for financial reward. If however a member makes an outstanding contribution or if you think they could do more but perhaps due to lack of equipment they can't - then you might make a donation to an individual

Is it possible for the [search forum]/[search this thread]/[search wiki] buttons on this site to be linked to google directly instead of the current situation?
I would hazard a guess that most folks are searching for older threads to check for answers to their (duplicate) questions and such, users should be able to see newer posts without searching at all.
Thanks
I know the site Admin has been working on the search functions in the hunt for improvements to be made. This I think is on-going but perhaps we'll get an update in a couple of days.

i recommend some super duty spring cleaning and get things more organized and possibly limit posting access to stop clutter in here

The problem is that is an absolutely mammoth task. There are thousans of threads and tens of thousands of posts. It is also complicated as the posts are often inter-related and deleting one leaves others hanging and not making much sense.
The idea is that the WIKI is the place for confirmed answers and tested solutions. Every member has a duty I believe, to spot things in the forums that have reached a sensible answer to problems and then go and create a section in the WIKI that cuts out all the chit chat and offers the edited solution in a neat condensed form. So yes, some forums do end up messy, but they are the talking shop, the WIKI is intended to be the tidy area for concise answers/solutions.
Not enough members take on this responsibility - the Mods are volunteers and there is only one day to day Admin. The Mods are generally kept busy with reported posts and squabbles of one sort or another and spotting the odd thing as they browse.
So if folk have a particular interest in a certain area, or have followed a problem from start to final answer, then get to grips with the WIKI and add a section that gives the refined solution.

[RESOURCES] Blackstone Goes Wiki [UPDATED 08 NOV] Cooked ROM's List

HTC Blackstone Wiki Pages
The xda-developes wiki system is a (shamefully) under-used resource, lets change that shall we? The information is available to ALL users and naturally being a wiki everyone can contribute to it, details about ROMs and download links etc can be added when they appear and it is easy to use.
ALL new members need to take a read through it BEFORE asking questions since if it is a common topic you WILL find it in the wiki.
Common useful pages in the wiki include:
PM a moderator to get something in the wiki added here
Rather than have an endless number of sticky threads containing the same information as in the wiki we actively encourage ALL members to use the wiki to its full potential, lets make an example of this forum and show the community in its best light.
Dont be scared of adding/editting information, its there for everyone so if something usefull is not in the wiki....add it!
Note:: we will be monitoring ALL changes so dont abuse the system. If there is a popular page which you think deserves a quick shortcut to in this sticky thread, PM a moderator to have it added. Enjoy people.
* Not yet in the wiki, perhaps somebody should add it?
As stated by mrvanx if you PM a moderator suitable posts can be added to this thread including this worthy one from Jason1978
HTC Blackstone Cooked ROMs on the Wiki
There is a Wiki page which details all of the current ROMs for our Blackstone / Touch HD devices.
The ROMs are in tables in an easy to read format, including links to the individual threads, the download links, and details OS version numbers, build numbers, Sense/Manilla versions etc against each ROM, making it easy to compare...
The page can be found by clicking the link at the very top of the post. It can be updated by anyone, but I will try and keep the page updated on a regular basis, and others have committed to this also.
The page concentrates currently on WM6.5 and beyond. There are very few WM6.1 builds coming out, so I have not updated that table to come in line with the new WM6.5 table.
Please feel free to update any details on the Wiki when cooks bring out updated versions. Also, if you have a ROM that is listed installed on your phone, please feel free to update missing information or correct anything that is wrong. If you add a new entry from a cook, please archive the old row on the table at the bottom of the page if the version is seen as a replacement. Be careful as some cooks have multiple current releases which are from different development streams, i.e. COM2, COM3, COM5 etc.
Many Thanks

New members

I notice a lot of new members joining this fantastic website, great the more members the better the knowledge pool.
Sadly I note that a lot of these new members are all asking the same questions, such as:
Which ROM is best
How do I install cab files
Whats the best software
Tweaks that work for
I like many other members spend a considerable amount of time just gleaning the info we need for our particular device and am grateful for the time spent by the developers who do the hard work.
Thanks to you all
However, the noobs want it all served on a plate!!
I have a suggestion, when a newly registered member of the group joins they are limited only to post in stickies for a the first 20 or so posts. Then, hopefully they would have gleaned the info wanted from those areas before being let loose in the wild.
Just a suggestion
Alchopop

[CM/Metamorph] Android-Look.co.cc [Suggestions and Themers Needed]

Okay, so here is my goal. (MODS, if this is not where you want this posted let me know)
I have setup a site at http://android-look.co.cc/. I love XDA's forums (sometimes..), and wanted a site that had all of the themes for Cyanogen's mods and Metamorph is one place. I have posted numerous themes to the site all organized by theme type.
I have unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space available and would love to utilize it.
I am willing to allow developers to post their own pages and updates too.
Most developer's pages link right back to XDA for screenshots and installation instructions.
If you are a themer and are interested in hosting your themes on my site, please sign up and email me. I will give you moderator access which will allow you to post and edit content.
Site: http://android-look.co.cc/
Mobile: http://android-look.co.cc/
Twitter: http://twitter.com/androidlook
Suggestions and input is always welcome. If this is something the community is not wanting, then I will not continue the project.
I am restaurant manager and have limited time. Until themers get involved, I will only updated 1-3 times a week.

That's fine. Fixed. I am not really interested in maintaining this site. I am hoping that the theme developer's will use this site as free hosting (instead of those terrible file-sharing sites). If you are interested, please let me know.
