Just bought the HD+. Will get Tuesday. Good performance? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my plan is to immediately put the CM10.1 on this tablet.
I mainly watch movies, read books, browse the web, and play a few games. But not too many games.
Will this tablet give me great performance in general? Or is it going to be limited? What kind of snappiness do you guys have with yours?

For what you will be using for the tablet performance should be perfect with room to spare. The Nook HD+ is a pretty solid tablet, only problems I've encountered are some minor touch sensitivity issues and a little bit of lag here and there but with some tweaking and customization it works pretty well.

Had mine since Wednesday. Great for watching TV/movies (avi/mp4).
Good for reading the web.
Great for comics.
Not got around to reading via the Kindle app.
Plays music fine.
Really enjoying it, but just like previous poster some touch sensitivity issues.

Well, I guess I will just need to try it for a bit and see if I am happy with it.

Hey I noticed that with it stock there are "incompatible" apps from the play store. Fandango for instance. If I put CM on it, am I still limited or is the buildprop edited so we can actually download these apps

No, most that say incompatible will still be incompatible on CM10.1. Your option is to download on another device, transfer the apk to the HD+, enable unknown sources on CM10.1 and install them. They usually run.

Actually, I just did CM to mine. My benchmark before was around 9000, with CM it went to over 10000.
And I found that several 'incompatible' apps became compatible. MLB At Bat works (only for radio, TV can't find my location). Also, a widgets app, iheart radio, and a couple others suddenly became compatible as well. But as they say, your mileage may vary. Of all the apps I have, the only one that is still incompatible is the Nook app... go figure!

I can careless about the nook app. I honestly don't read much. I really bought this just because I got it so cheap

For reading of pdf books I suggest OrionReader, simple and smooth as hell.
For video MxPlayer could handle 720p animes on hd+
Really satisfied with the hd+, definitely a bargain to me

I am so glad you mentioned OrionReader. I use my Nook for reading music scores while playing piano and couldn't find an app that moved fast enough while turning the pages. Now I'm all set!

You're welcome Another good thing about it is you can customize behaviours for different tap zones, very convenient

Need help from a real NC user! I need to know if it can...

1) play accelerometer 3d games
2) play video including YouTube
3) flash 10.1 video on browser
4) wifi capable if tethered off my mytouch 4g.
I know it would need root and custom rom.
Is it easy as rooting a mt4g. Thanks in advance

1) Yes
2,3) With Froyo, yes you can play flash video (AKA, youtube).
4) I tether my nook to my Incredible all the time, no problems.
Your best bet is to try out one of the current Froyo builds on an SD cards, so you don't have to mess with changing the stock OS at all..
Thanks...hooked on mipeliculagratis dot com. Requires flash 10.1 and free movies on demand. Might pick up NC on payday.
Thanks again.... have u played need for speed shift on it?

Heads up on the games...the accelerometer works, but it's less sensitive than most phones, and that can affect gameplay. I've noticed some games can be trickier due to it's responsiveness. But on the whole, yes, it works fine for motion-based gaming.
i have asphalt 5 on my nook, it runs great, and so do the accelerometer controls. the best example i can think of is HAWX, which is also a great motion controlled game that runs with no problems on my nook

Veetle on Android (working well in g tablet)

Hi guys, just thought I'd share my findings. Not sure if many here use veetle but here goes.
So it was the FA Cup final (soccer?) over in england and I can't get a decent steam over here in asia. Thus I turned to veetle. Veetle plays on my g tablet with flash 10.3. But video is a bit choppy. I'm on tnt 4.4.
To overcome this, I searched the net and found a "fix".
Heres what you need to do:
1) Get dolphin hd browser (not sure if setting user agent is available on stock browser)
2) Get vplayer from market (if not available, search online for apk)
3) Go to settings in dolphin browser and set user agent to Iphone (not ipad).
4) Visit veetle.com and stream away. The video should open the vplayer and stream the .m3u8 format from there.
Note: vplayer is a paid app. Free version is a trial for seven days. I bought the app on my desire hd and ported over. It did not appear on my g tablet market. (using olympus build prop). And watching on copy righted content on veetle is not strictly legal but I'm a poor student and theres no decent feed here.

Adobe ends Flash downloads on August 15th

http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/29/3...pported?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
on August 15th you will no longer be able to download Adobe Flash from Google Play.
So it might be a good idea to backup the APK.

Happy Birthday! ....no more flash support
lulz
*shrugs*
It still works with Jelly Bean from what I've read.
You never know, developers might decide to update flash themselves.
Sent from my SGH-I9000 using xda app-developers app
i've confirmed myself by running jelly bean on my galaxy nexus that flash does work.
i watched an entire episode of stargate sg-1 on amazon prime video and it was perfect.
probably old news, but in the google nexus 7 manual that google has put on their books store, it states that you can still download the normal android browser from the play store if you want to watch flash videos.
otherwise, with chrome, just go to www.youtube.com/html5 and enable html5 videos.
Tbh, HTML5 is the way to go. The only downside to Google not supporting Flash anymore in Chrome is that a lot of content out on the web still uses Flash, like games, etc. But with the web as it is (HTML5 and CSS3) there is no reason for websites not to develop for these technologies. It would make the removal of plugins like Flash so that content will run in the web browser natively. In a few years things will change though.
Is there any way to play amazon prime videos without flash? I've just been using the browser and flash so far...

You can download the app from the kindle fire but it is very buggy on any device other than the fire and nook color (same resolution). Also it will not work if your rooted.
Firefox, DolphinHD, ICS Browser+ all support flash and work on the Nexus 7 and probably better than the app will.
Flash Player
Here: Adobe Flash Player 11.1.111.5
Google just seems to be pushing the envelope to get rid of Flash, Lol
Everyone needs to start developing HTML5 anyways, what better way than this
I have a current flash .apk stored in my dropbox already. I'm not too worried. Now hopefully people like amazon will start using html5 soon....

It wasn't Google's choice, Adobe doesn't want to put anymore time and money into Flash for any mobile platform.
It's too bad Flash doesn't die all together. As long as it is maintained on the desktop, developers will still use it and widen the mobile/desktop web fragmentation.
Devs need to start using html5 PERIOD and Flash just needs to DIE. It had a purpose at one point, but in modern times Flash no longer has a place.
Humm I do not agree, do a search on all the new flash based web games coming out. Also have you SEEN the "tools" for html5 development? I guess they are fine if you are a C++ guy, but for design they suck and no where near flash.
The up side is many things can be saved out as html5 right from flash.
The reality though is you do design for desktop and for mobile for most sites, so the fragmentation is here to stay, and flash is going to be part of the desktop.

Nexus stutters while playing Riptide

I've been playing with my Nexus 7 for about 5 days now and this just started happening. I thought I had too many tasks running so I closed everything, still happening. I rebooted and started playing again but it continued to stutter every 3-4 seconds. Any thoughts or is this happening to anyone else?
Not seeing that myself... just played it for a bit to make sure. To describe it as Butter would be appropriate. It is a much better experience than on my Galaxy Nexus, and that says a lot for what was a significant improvement over my Nexus S.

I have also experienced this. Stuttering on Dead Trigger. Ultimate Rotation Control removed, problem solved. Just glad I had the trial to decide and didn't pay for it.
I paid the license for Ultimate Rotation Control, was about to uninstall to avoid stutter but...
in the app, you can also edit the settings for each app.
So in order for games not to stutter, you can turn off this app.
Applied settings so this app wouldn't affect Riptide for example, result: no stutter
But still I got the rotation on the homescreens, landscape automatic etc.
So small piece of advice, play around with the settings for each game, homescreens, apps etc to avoid stutter.
It's really not a bad app after all
edit: just switched off (you see a screen with a red cross through in the settings of the app) Ultimate Rotation for all my games, youtube, videoplayers etc.. to avoid the stutter.
When opened in the app (if you switched off Ultimate Rotation for that specific app) you see the icon in your notification bar change to a small screen with cross so you know it's switched off.
Happy camper now no stutter in games, videos, youtube

This is good to hear, may have to give it another try. I can't say I noticed these features in the trial, do they only become available once youv'e purchased the pay for version?

I don't remember tbh.. the settings per app is the last line of functionality in the app itself when opened from the app drawer.
Just downloaded the trial again. I don't know how I managed to miss this first time around. Will give it a while and probably buy the lisence.

Share some good video apps

I thought would start this post since I didn't see one where people could some of there favorite video apps that don't come stock on the N7. Her is my list:
1. Netflix - pretty good app and greatest availability of streaming movies you will find from a monthly service.
2. Xfinity Player: Nice updates to the UI for 7 inch tablets and really good for catching up on old episodes of Spartacus.
3. Crunchyroll: The premiere app for watching animes that are subbed and best of all they have a free option that works over Wi-Fi. Doesn't work over Bluetooth tethering, but ICS built in Wi-Fi tethering is just fine if you don't mind the ads.
4. HomeDia: A nice free app that allows you to stream videos on your home network. I paired mine up with plex media server since you have to pay for tversity and it has worked well. If it doesn't play a video just use a third video player app like rockplayer.
5. Dailymotion: To be honest the only reason I use this app is to catch up with subbed anime episodes of OnePiece, outside of that nothing really else for me.
The good thing about these apps are they are free to download and numbers 1, 2, and 5 have apps for the Xbox 360. Well those are mine, so what are yours?

Crackle has some good free movies and tv shows. I also like to browse vimeo using the app, there are lots of cool videos on there.
If you like to watch current TV DROID TV Primetime actually works very well on the N7. There are quite a few free shows but for @$9 for three months you can get shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Greys Anatomy, and dozens of others. I have used it for over a year on my DROID X and it sizes up really well to the 7inch for factor.

Are you doing this on a N7?
I had problems with it on my N7 in that I couldn't get it to lower/hide the info when the video was playing. Unless I am missing something .... On my phone it worked just fine.
UPDATE
Now if this isn't stupid on my part..... if you touch the video when it is playing, a icon shows on the bottom left to make it Full Screen... thought I had tried everything...
