They're all beautiful.
Here's a .zip with all of them. Only 11 so far it looks like.
If anyone was wondering they incrementally increase the number in the filename
so this https://www.gstatic.com/cast/images/home/background1.jpg
would come before this https://www.gstatic.com/cast/images/home/background2.jpg

you could edit the host file but think the url is https so its a little harder.
I'm surprised to see they're only 720p? Most folks will have this device connected to 1080p displays.
Sidenote, at least some of these wallpapers are the same as those that ship on the Chromebook Pixel, which certainly has them at much higher resolution.
Does anyone know the url to the new wallpapers that came along the november(?) update?

I'm not surprised...You always support the lowest common denominator as a default so no one has issues.
You can't display full 1080p on a 720p set without scaling...
But you can display 720p on 1080p without doing anything.
So it makes sense to support 720p because any tv that has an HDMI port supports that as a minimum resolution.
I would love it if there was some way to point the CCast to display images on your own custom cloud folder like on Picassa or Google+ at some point though.

i couldn't even get the thing to work on the Droid X, but here's the .apk and an .apk for the system (i think???)
I don't know, but all i can say is, the X is overrated and overhyped, its not nearly as good as the incredible, even with that large screen, the AMOLED on the Incredible is much much nicer. I'm swapping my X for my Incredible back, I never had so many problems with my Inc as i have so far with the X.
What exactly is DLNA?
Not going to work. There is specific framework on the X that is for DLNA as well.
If someone's REALLY, REALLY dedicated... then they can just grab the 2.2 (or 2.1) sources, code in support for DLNA (assuming the framework is open source... I didn't look into that), and build it for everyone to enjoy.
Good luck with that.

Doesn't include taking it out of the box.
I will be probably rooting it as soon as I take it out of the box. Maybe install some custom roms.
So what are you going to do?
The first thing that i will do is test the web browser and see if it is any smooth, if the browser is not, than i will try dolphin or something like that, but if that browser still lags that i will consider returning because i want a good and handy browsing device.

Installed it at work so I can't really play with it yet but there is a weird little headphone and chrome something icon with a line through it at the bottom left of the main screen that doesn't do anything. I probably need to be on the same network and the app to see my chromecast for whatever that is to do something but just thought I'd mention it.
Suggestions:
1) Add a check on app start to notify if it can't find the chromecast on the network
2) Ask to enable wifi for same reason as #1
3) Add Widget(s) for the app (Granted I haven't used the app to it's full potential yet to determine what the widget could/should have)

Don't know about other, but I can tell you one thing : Google released all the stuff a developer could need to develop apps for it and there's no limitation to publish what they want. Here's the catch though, their API is somehow limited for clients and are meant for services like Netflix or Hulu to implement their own media player remote. Sending content to the Chromecast is a very different thing (and is potentially the most interesting). Koush wrote a few things about it on his Google+ page, I recommend checking it out as well as his workaround.

Do you have any plans to post your source code? I'd love to take a look at it.
I'm strongly considering it but not immediately. There's a lot of changes going on in the codebase still and a little bit of house cleaning before I can start thinking of releasing it. Maybe in a couple months from now. If you need to look at some chromecast code, samples do pretty much the same =)
Apparently, Koush has built in Chromecast functionality to CM, possibly for future release. Hopefully, similar mods can be made that will do the same for other ROMs...

Game. Changer.
Unless I understand it wrong, none of these 3rd party apps and tweaks are going to work for us (non-developers) until Google starts whitelisting apps. I think each app needs its own specific whitelisted key by Google in order to make an app talk to the Chromecast.

The function will be built into CM so you wont have to root the chromecast, now you have to unlock and root your device to install CM so as long as the build you install supports it you should be good to go.
This i want. Streaming netflix and YouTube from my tablet is awesome, but chromecast is pretty limited.

I don't really get the appeal of this. What's the point of casting something on one android device to another? Why not just play it on that device you are casting too? Of casting to an HDMI stick doesn't make sense, just play the video/ audio on the HDMI stick.

I think its related to miracast displays. Used to be wireless display under menu options. But maybe something will be different with new CC build... I tested with Pwned.

Iow, they aren't making the Chromecast a Miracast receiver, they're addressing methods in the cast APIs.
